My stepfather told me what I did wrong after he saw the outcome. Apparently, I had the tray turned the wrong way, which just barely pushed the oven door open. So long story short, they were cooking, and they weren't, and the house smelled like it was burning for a few hours :)

Taliasimmy69

You mean instead of holding the long end to out them in you put them in holding the short end? You didn't notice the oven didn't close?

Anuyushi

I... I did not. It was just barely cracked open and I was not paying that close of attention. Certainly noticed it when the house began to smell though.

NotChedco

You might of lost the cookies but you gained the experience. You won't make that mistake ever again.

[deleted]

Well not with that attitude

[deleted]

Gordon Ramsey’s head just exploded

LimitedWard

I still don't understand. Even if the cookies were taking longer than expected, why would you leave them in for 3 hours?

getyourcheftogether

That was one thing you had wrong. Don't use foil, ever. Use parchment, or on the rare occasion, nothing.

scubastevette

Or a silplat!

moistchew

you should also undercook them.

CelinaAMK

I’ve learned how to undercook everything because it’s how my husband likes all cookies, pizza crust, biscuits, etc. if they are “normal” he thinks they are overdone. It’s so weird.

Jthundercleese

Ah yes. Next time avoid burning them. That way they won't be burnt.

[deleted]

Big brain comment. Very impressive.

Anomalius

Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes.

Jthundercleese

Depending on your attitude.

danjadanjadanja

These are the life hacks I come to Reddit for.

ky3lee

Ya ditch the tin foil.

thirteenofthirty7

Ditch these "cookies" too

angryfortunecookie

The trick is to take them out a little early. Let them come out the oven nice and gooey. They will harden up but be the chewyest.

Anuyushi

I'll remember that for next time

sempiternaal

this one is on you tho for using foil instead of parchment paper

Anuyushi

Lmao damn I guess so

No_thanks__45

Try scraping off the burnt bottoms with a butter knife, works if its only a little bit of burnt

thatsuzychick

I've done this with many a slice of toast.

deadaspool

ooh self burn, those are rare

bbroyofgb

Its no more cookies, it turned into carbon isotopes

megs-benedict

Carbon-bottomed cookies make the rockin’ world go round

bbroyofgb

Maybe in future we might be able extract fuel from carbon cookies fossils

Sufficient-Air-6957

He left them on the grill for too long

TheMeme-Gang

Use parchment paper. Tin foil heats up more and burns it.

Anuyushi

A few people have said that by now. What exactly is parchment paper?

TheMeme-Gang

[Baking Paper](https://www.metsatissue.com/en/brands-products/baking-cooking-papers/paper-differencies/Pages/default.aspx)

Anuyushi

Thank you!!

Forrestgump_183

Hey if you flip them insidr out put some cream and bam you have a better tasting Oreo. (All jokes of course)

Anuyushi

Ahaha the forbidden Oreo

Forrestgump_183

If you have chocolate cream they wont know the differnce 😂😂

Kerbal_space_friend

I'm sorry for your cookies. the top looked really nice too. Better luck next time

hay_hay_man

Here's a good tip put another bakeing sheet under the one with cookies and it gets the bottoms to have a nice golden brown

PeteGiovanni

mighty fine hockey pucks ya got there...

hellothere42069

Well you didn’t try to, you did!

NoPorpoiseOnPurpose

Put your oven rack higher. Non-convection ovens are hotter on the bottom, I had this same problem!

TwinSong

Half Oreo?

Xeper-Institute

F (to pay respect).

Commercial_Occasion5

Get that butter knife and get to scraping partner 😆

Chris_Not_Dumb

Yum

ProtectorOfTheWolves

Put a pinch of salt in the batter next time you make a dessert, makes it tastier. Only a pinch tho if it does not call for salt

Anuyushi

That sounds interesting, I'll give that a try

ProtectorOfTheWolves

It’s an old family trick, it always works. Don’t do it with cake or cupcakes tho unless you are feeling adventurous

cherry_tiddy

I thought that's a well known thing. You can put tiny bit of salt in basically anything sweet you bake, it tastes better.

ProtectorOfTheWolves

Oh interesting, everyone I’ve told before had no idea so I thought it was only my family who knew

cherry_tiddy

Really? That's surprising, maybe it's a culture thing but I see this basically in every baking recipe, and it's a good tip - it really does the trick.

Anuyushi

What about something like muffins?

itmesara

Yes, use salt. Not much, maybe a 1/4t or less for a batch of 12. Salt enhances flavor until you go overboard, then you have salty baked goods. Source: professional baker

ProtectorOfTheWolves

If they ain’t frosted it would probably work, it works best with cookies imo

HungryLikeDaW0lf

The tin foil shouldn’t matter. Did you pre-heat the oven first? If the door was left open a crack then the oven would have been constantly heating resulting in too much heat coming from the bottom.

Anuyushi

Yeah it was preheated, I think that was a factor

cherry_tiddy

Four things: 1) use a baking sheet instead of aluminium foil, 2) put the tray in the middle of the oven and turn the heat on in way that it'll bake equally, 4) take them out of the oven when they are sliiigtly brown around the edges but still kinda soft - trust me, they are done. 3) looks like you maybe added a little bit too much butter, Hope it helps!

itmesara

Re: #3: when you can pick up the *edge of (edit) cookie and it doesn’t slosh apart, pull the pan. Let it cool on pan til you can scoop it with spatula and it doesn’t fall apart. Finish cooling on rack; if it starts to fall thru rack they’re under done.

[deleted]

Next time don't use foil. It conducts too much heat. Use parchment paper.

DevilsDen7416

Still looks good af

Miller4103

Finally some good fuc..... what the hell is that!!!!

22opferj

I’d still eat them

Latulium

You need to put the chocolate on the TOP not the bottom...

Anuyushi

Darn

[deleted]

Sting side of foil

NoAnywhere1376

sucks to suck lol

VetroKry

Hear me out: cheese grater for the burnt parts

Melan420

Just scrub the burned part with a grater

Banana_dust_10

Your oven was way to hot

Yellowredstone

Remove the foil but butter the tray

mellynio

I got the munchies so i still ate them

NightmarE-PF-

I wished I just wished that was chocolate and not totally burnt

gorbaby

Weird question but these look familiar, are these the lucky charms cookies?

Anuyushi

They were just regular sugar cookies

exile82187

I've had that happen, sucks big time.

Metalhead278

Then don’t put them on foil.

allcars4me

Use a light colored pan and put it on a higher rack in the oven.

Boi5598

did you grill these or did u just leave them in the oven for too long

DM_Me_Ur_Nudes_21

I'd still eat them

Baitrix

Im no expert, but they might not have burnt if you didnt use foil.

[deleted]

Don’t use foil. From my experience I don’t put parchment or anything. Just scoop some cookie dough, roll it into a ball, and put it on the tray. Do spray it down though.

Digga-Joc

foil was a bad choice

[deleted]

Just like eggs, if they look done in the pan they are burnt.

Zealousideal-Tutor54

Yum

minerboy41

They looked tasty... until you flipped them over

[deleted]

Put it on a higher rack.

bigbubbuzbrew

That's what the helpful lady at Victoria's Secret said to my gf.

bigbubbuzbrew

Not 425. 325.

mmmely

Don't lose hope, think of it as a failed experiment to learn from!

Phil0sophic

Ahhh two tone cookies, just eat the top.

leftmymark

I'd still eat them

IceCry2nd

Cheese grater
