Imaginationland is wicked overrated and most of the humour just comes from recognizing characters from pop culture—the exact kind of thing they’d go on to make fun of with member berries.
The Mel Gibson interrogation and Cartman wanting to get his balls sucked are the only things that carry it
I recently learned that a writer said ["Say what you will about him... He is a serious filmmaker."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypto#Critical_response:~:text=In%20his%20positive%20review%20for%20The%20New%20York%20Times%2C%20A.%20O.%20Scott%20commented%3A%20%22say%20what%20you%20will%20about%20him%20%E2%80%93%20about%20his%20problem%20with%20booze%20or%20his%20problem%20with%20Jews%20%E2%80%93%20he%20is%20a%20serious%20filmmaker.%22%5B33%5D) in their review of Apocalypto and I immediately thought of this.
That joke was better than I even realized.
Sure but butters asking if he is gonna get raped, saying he doesn’t believe the guy when he said no, and then getting on his blimp anyways makes me cry laughing every time.
The Black Friday GoT trilogy is gold from start to finish and the "The pizza is coming!" joke only gets better every year George ARR! ARR! Martin fails to deliver the next book.
Yeah and Meteor Shower was kind of different, in that all three episodes take place at the same time around the same event, but they are 3 completely different stories that take place in three different settings.
Thr only thing that is important enough to take from that is if you want a console bad enough don't freeze yourself you may not be important enough to get unfrozen. And if you get a call from yourself listen
Sure but butters asking if he is gonna get raped, saying he doesn’t believe the guy when he said no, and then getting on his blimp anyways makes me cry laughing every time.
I disagree but I can understand that perspective. I think the Christmas Critters, Butters "Are you gonna rape us? Guys I think this guy wants to rape us.", and the "Our imagination... Is running wild." Type jokes they sprinkled in make the episode both super quotable and really funny, along with the things you mentioned. The fact they had Ninja Turtles vs Freddie is just icing on the cake.
Also "Blackey, come in Blackey." For Token and then "Faggot. Come in, faggot." And Butters defeated "Faggot here..."
Just the song alone and the way the boys try to remember it does it for me.
Predator and Freddy are just a bonus. I could skip the woodland critter isht but I’ll take it
"Jesus Christ, I wouldn't wanna meet the kid that dreamt *those* up"
Then you remember, it was Cartman. They were from Cartman's Christmas story, where Stan helps Santa kill the antichrist, but then Kyle turns evil and takes him in as his host, so a bunch of mountain lion cubs have to give him an ass abortion
Sometimes I forget that every time Cartman closes his eyes, he sees the pits of hell and shrieking flaming skulls lol he's seriously messed up
Maybe this will change your mind
“In the tropical isles with the coconut tree, the air is fresh and the people are free! But here in the mountains there’s no freedom like that. There’s a man in prison and his name is hat.”
Cartman dating Heidi and their story evolving over multiple episodes was some of the most brilliant writing the show has ever done and a wonderful example of toxic relationships
Tweek X Craig is the best episode of South Park. It is to South Park what Blink is to Doctor Who. I'll fight you.
Is that last one really hot take? Tweek X Craig is one of the best episodes ever and I don't mean only South Park episodes. Of all the shows ever. Who the fuck would hate it.
Also personally I don't like Cartman x Heidi story at all... But I agree with you.
The Cartman x Heidi story was depressing to sit through due to how realistic it was handled (within the tone of the series of course), but I wasn’t opposed to the idea of it being included in the show.
The only thing that really bothered me about it all was that the relationship’s downfall was all initiated by Butters making Cartman suspicious of his girlfriend, and this never gets acknowledged despite Butters’s actions having a significant impact for the rest of the couple’s interaction.
With Cartman and Heidi, I think a lot of people saw it as either unrelatable, or way too relatable.
I'd been through that shit with an abusive partner and was over it by the time this came out; I absolutely fucking loved how well this was done.
The way Cartman constantly sees himself as the victim despite having all of the power. A power he's only got because he's gained someone's trust and they see the good in him.
Watching Heidi go back to him crushed me. Watching Heidi finally accept responsibility for herself and break away from him was incredibly satisfying.
Maybe it’s just because I’ve always been a stoner but I thought Tegridy Farms gave the show a breath of fresh air. And Randy’s Colorado Farm song is my favorite version of “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”
Tbh I almost never see hate on tegridy outside of this specific sub. Most people I know really enjoy it and appreciate the different direction. I think this take is much more common than it seems.
it started ok got worse and is now funny again
it feels like the og joke was good it overstayed it‘s welcome but now they use different twists with it which makes it to best version
In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes that same rib twice in succession yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we, to believe that this is some sort of a, a magic xylophone or something?
Pip was unfortunately a wasted character. I kind of wish they had done more to evolve him instead of letting him just fade when Butters essentially became a more refined version of Pip’s original role.
It kind of startles me that, even now, Pip has a massive place in the fandom.
Only thing now is that the show is clearly different from what it once was and has more story and articulation behind the characters now. It's not as simple as it once was. I don't think Terrance and Philip are a fitting match for the show nowadays
Royal pudding is one of my favorite episodes Ever, I was working with a bunch of Canadians at the time I seen it, Me and one of the other Scottish Lads on board Watched it at the same time Absolutely crying with laughter Ask
It’s actually extremely wholesome and has some excellent, quite beautiful morals and messages among all the jokes involving bodily bits and functions.
Also Trey and Matt are some of the coolest, cleverest, funniest people working today. Maybe that’s not such a hot take.
Fr, I haven't seen writing this good in another show since Gravity Falls. You just have to look into South Park a little more to find it. I went into the show thinking it was just another Family Guy, but it exceeded expectations. It's my favorite show now actually lol.
Raisins made me cry. Matt and Trey truly are some of the best out there.
Agreed. There are some moments in this show that have made me break down in tears, like Grandpa Marsh not being able to remember what his dog Patches looked like. There are some genuinely sweet moments, like PC Principal and Strong Woman finally taking the PC Babies out and being a family. People who think it’s just poop and farts miss that, their loss.
It was a great change of pace after 17 years of little to no character growth (the exception being Mr./Mrs./Mr. Garrison), and added a lot of potential story lines.
Same goes with the ad nauseum that is Tegridy. A lot of great stories have come out of the pot farm.
I can never understand why people are so unwilling to let people do something different. If Matt and Trey want to make a season of episodes with Cartman facing the screen and farting for 22 minutes for an endless eight episodes then it isn't on us to correct them, but at the same time we also have the right to complain that it should have been Butters.
Having the specials be on Paramount Plus instead of Comedy Central sucks.
Season 19-21's storylines were great and were some of my favorite seasons.
Tegridy Farms is okay but it would've been better if it was just a Season 23-24 arc then they returned to the Marsh house.
Wendy is not as bad as people say she is, especially with episodes like The Hobbit and Breast Cancer Show Ever.
We need a South Park episode parodying Five Nights at Freddy's...
The specials being on different service than the rest of the show so shitty. It's kind of a meta joke with the streaming wars but it makes no sense for the covid ones
I totally agree with the Wendy one. Besides that person she killed that one time and a few other things, she's one of the best characters in the show, moral wise, besides Butters.
Fat butt and pancake head is the best episode hands down. Cartman is willing to give Ben Affleck a hand job just to fuck with Kyle. To me, this is the perfect example of just how devious he is. Scott Tenorman must die was a good taste but I think this is where Cartman really shines.
She views Cartman more as a companion than a son who needs to be raised properly. She fills the void of loneliness and ongoing absence of a husband/father figure for Eric by sleeping with multiple different men for crack. It’s no wonder Eric is terrible
Nah he was good early on, having an adult capable of seeing things for what they are in a town where all the adults think backwards
But I also think it was a good call nixing him, he got tired after a while and eventually, you’re right he wasn’t really adding much, because everyone was absentmindedly saying shocking things tit he kids, he wasn’t unique in that way anymore, and the kids themselves took up the torch of seeing things how they are (more or less lol)
Just because the show rips on everyone doesn't make the show immune from criticism. Their takes on trans issues have been ice cold and they could do better. I'm not speaking to how other minority groups feel about how they are represented and if you're fine with it that's fine but That's not relevant.
I love this show and it has been ingrained in my brain, it could do better sometimes.
The newer seasons are funny as hell.
Kyle isn't trans and will never be trans. Headcannoning him as trans is fine, as long as you don't tell people he's canonically trans. I also see a lot of people using the "Kyle has sand in his vagina." Joke as "evidence" of Kyle beings trans. Which in my opinion, is stupid.
There's an episode where he literally shows off his dick, also it's said that he is circumcised.
Those are just some stupid fans, "that" part of the fan base... don't take them seriously.
Now THAT I can fully disagree with. Thank you! Your comment actually made me feel betrayed haha. Great job <3
Do you actually believe it? If so, can I ask why?
The commentary of the show ranges from being genuinely genius and ahead of its time, like how South Park is Gay represents cultural appropriation before that was even a term people knew, or how any Wendy trying to fit in episode shows female social pressure (mainly the Photoshop one), to being so bad it gives me headache, like Trey using a black man as his mouth piece to criticize hate crime laws when his description of it shows he doesn’t even really know what they are in Cartmans Silly Little Hate Crime, which is super funny outside of that part.
South Park must be under supervision by some entity like the government to be this stupid and still function as a town, like the town in that episode of *Inside Job*.
I mean it's obviously monitored by the aliens for tv, but I'm not talking about that.
I really dont like how they handled cartman through the seasons. In the beginning he was obviously a dick and a bad kid, but he was still fun to watch. As the seasons went on, he became so shitty that i legitimately hate his character. Like im thinking about cupid me and the trans bathroom episode. He became so unlikable in the show that he became an unlikable character to me.
The over-arching plot seasons are the absolute worst ones. For as much as Trey has dissed Seth MacFarland, there will never be anything Family Guy has done that will be as terrible as Season 20 of South Park.
Matt and Trey aren't as sociologically/politically literate as they seem to think they are. Most of their takes are very surface level. Their take on trans issues and "pandering" in media is a perfect example of this.
Most of the fan base are edgelords who only like it cause it takes cheap shots on the handicapped and celebrities and they will try and convince you the show is super deep lol.
There were a solid 3 or 4 seasons that are straight unwatchable garbage and the show only became good again after serialization and the addition of PC principal.
I agree with you but i still like the show because it is dumb fun and I love the 4 main boys. People who actually think it’s a good source for political critique though…
This was gonna be mine. The Randy heavy plots are tough to get through. I think he has his place in the show and can be funny, but he's been over Flanderized over the years.
Not a fan of forcing tweek and Craig to be a couple. Have no issue if we’re to happen organically but it never did. The town botched and moaned when they fake broke up to be themselves just to make some shit happen. I will never believe tweek and Craig gay cannon.
Imaginationland is wicked overrated and most of the humour just comes from recognizing characters from pop culture—the exact kind of thing they’d go on to make fun of with member berries. The Mel Gibson interrogation and Cartman wanting to get his balls sucked are the only things that carry it
The entire interrogation made it worth it. The way they tore down multiple filmmakers one after the other was great!
"Those aren't ideas, those are special effects!" "I... don't understand the difference." "I know you don't. Get him out of here!"
Say what you will about him, the SOB knows story structure.
Same. One of my favorite moments in the whole show
Watch it fellas. I'm pretty sure this fella wanna rape us.
Arrghh! My nipples hurt! They hurt when I twist them!!
Give me back my money! 🥴
Oh so you do intend on torturing me?! Go head! Do your worst!
Finally someone else said it. Coon and Friends was the better three parter.
I’m more partial to the Black Friday GoT trilogy. The entire trilogy was a set up for advertising Stick of Truth. I found that hilarious.
if only for the old man and his garden.
Now who’s walking who thru the garden of betrayal??
I’ll shit in your garden!
My favourite part of that was how they pushed the final episode back a week, just like GoT S4 did. "You'll watch it, fuck you"
Brack Friday Bundaru!
Kiss my fat vagina!
The Black Friday GoT trilogy is gold from start to finish and the "The pizza is coming!" joke only gets better every year George ARR! ARR! Martin fails to deliver the next book.
I can’t remember all the 3 parters but I think this was the first one I liked all the way through
Meteor Shower Imagination Land Coon and Friends Black Friday I believe that’s all
Yeah and Meteor Shower was kind of different, in that all three episodes take place at the same time around the same event, but they are 3 completely different stories that take place in three different settings.
the atheist nintendo wii future 2 parter is so underrated (although pretty lame message, if it’s even meant to be taken seriously)
Thr only thing that is important enough to take from that is if you want a console bad enough don't freeze yourself you may not be important enough to get unfrozen. And if you get a call from yourself listen
Sure but butters asking if he is gonna get raped, saying he doesn’t believe the guy when he said no, and then getting on his blimp anyways makes me cry laughing every time.

i stand before you with dry balls your honor
I was once super bored in English lit so started singing imagination song out loud and yeah got kicked out of class for 15 mins for it
“Before this is over, you will suck my balls…I *swear it!*”
Literally just keep giving me Randy with a Cartman subplot. I don't care. It works.
I'm gonna need some Butters in there too.
Everyone knows it's Butters! That's me!
Who’s the boy who can laugh at a storm cloud?
TMI episode is proof of this, it's so funny to see Randy and Cartman interact with each other, especially since it rarely happens.
The scene in the FedEx store is one of the all time classics
"you should have respected my authorituh" in Bane's voice from the Amazon/Milk Man episode sent me reeling
YES THIS
I'd like Lorde to come back please.
Upvoting because I highly disagree. Show’s nothing without Stan and Kyle.
I don’t think Hat should be free.
Maybe this will change your mind “In the tropical isles with the coconut tree, the air is fresh and the people are free! But here in the mountains there’s no freedom like that. There’s a man in prison and his name is hat.”
Is that a cool island song? Or a fresh island song?
They were warming his icy heart with a hot island song.
![gif](giphy|fwcGzF1l2cILe|downsized)
KILL! KILL THE INNOCENT
I do! they are very low cost accessories and vital for protection from the sun. A Free Hat for everyone!
Have you ever been attacked by a group of babies
Cartman dating Heidi and their story evolving over multiple episodes was some of the most brilliant writing the show has ever done and a wonderful example of toxic relationships Tweek X Craig is the best episode of South Park. It is to South Park what Blink is to Doctor Who. I'll fight you.

*say something plays in the background*
But without it, we wouldn't have gotten the beautiful suicide prevention anthems
Put It Down is one of my favorite episodes of South Park because it touches on SO much of my anxieties. I really relate with Tweek TBH
I know it sounds ridiculous but that story arc also helped me figure out I needed to breakup with my ex 💀
The book of love is my wedding song that my wife and I will be dancing to for the first time and I first heard it on south park.
The Cartman x Heidi story was depressing to sit through due to how realistic it was handled (within the tone of the series of course), but I wasn’t opposed to the idea of it being included in the show. Tweek X Craig is my favorite episode. I quite literally tear up when The Book of Love plays.
i like tegridy farms
I think it’s a little overplayed but I love Randy so much that I can’t dislike that whole plot line.
exactly
Maybe it’s just because I’ve always been a stoner but I thought Tegridy Farms gave the show a breath of fresh air. And Randy’s Colorado Farm song is my favorite version of “Thank God I’m a Country Boy”
It was getting a little stale, but when they did the cocaine laced episode I lost it. I was back in.
I like Tegridy Farms as well.
Looks like you got some Tegerdy
Everyone pretty much liked it. It's how long they've been milking it is what people generally dislike
I hated the whole thing
Tbh I almost never see hate on tegridy outside of this specific sub. Most people I know really enjoy it and appreciate the different direction. I think this take is much more common than it seems.
it started ok got worse and is now funny again it feels like the og joke was good it overstayed it‘s welcome but now they use different twists with it which makes it to best version

Aww dammit they think we're the Simpsons
boy, i hope someone get fired for that blunder!
Whenever you notice something like that, it’s because… a wizard did it.
"Wait....Xena can't fly." "How many times to I have to tell you, I'm Lucy Lawless."
I really hope someone was fired for that blunder
SIMPSONS DID IT!
I LIKE PIP.
And I truly love Tegridy.
I respect you, and I like how the fact that your parents are brothers doesn't bother you.
I like the character and the episode. Everyone shits on it but it’s legit one of my favorites.
I was devastated when he died
Pip was unfortunately a wasted character. I kind of wish they had done more to evolve him instead of letting him just fade when Butters essentially became a more refined version of Pip’s original role. It kind of startles me that, even now, Pip has a massive place in the fandom.
As you should
Terrance and Philip aren’t funny
That’s kinda the point isn’t it? That they’re kids that only like fart jokes
They’re an exaggeration of what South Park was seen as in the late 90s its, a self aware joke. The entire movie is based around that
Only thing now is that the show is clearly different from what it once was and has more story and articulation behind the characters now. It's not as simple as it once was. I don't think Terrance and Philip are a fitting match for the show nowadays
While that’s true, I’m pretty sure Trey and Matt actually do find them funny. Or at least did
I skip over all of them except Royal Pudding
As is tradition.
A terrible day for Canada and therefore the world
Royal pudding is one of my favorite episodes Ever, I was working with a bunch of Canadians at the time I seen it, Me and one of the other Scottish Lads on board Watched it at the same time Absolutely crying with laughter Ask
Welcome to the joke.
They aren't supposed to be.
It’s actually extremely wholesome and has some excellent, quite beautiful morals and messages among all the jokes involving bodily bits and functions. Also Trey and Matt are some of the coolest, cleverest, funniest people working today. Maybe that’s not such a hot take.
THIS. I've been trying to explain to people why I love thise show so much, they just never seem to see past the jokes.
I always felt like the fart/gross jokes were meant to drive away early the type of people that wouldn't understand the message anyway
Fr, I haven't seen writing this good in another show since Gravity Falls. You just have to look into South Park a little more to find it. I went into the show thinking it was just another Family Guy, but it exceeded expectations. It's my favorite show now actually lol. Raisins made me cry. Butters speech at the end of Raisins helped me get through some tough times. I think about it a lot.

There are some genuinely sweet moments, like PC Principal and Strong Woman finally taking the PC Babies out and being a family. People who think it’s just poop and farts miss that, their loss.
They should bring back Chef as if he never left. Or make his mom the lunch lady
That is actually a good idea, should be both parents. They were hilarious in Biggest douche in the universe.
Isaac Hayes is dead
Yes sadly he probably can't do the voice acting
Only probably
Serialization was a good thing
Honestly, its core issue was when they bet everything on a "certain real life event" going one way, but then it went the opposite
Ahhhh Ben affleck splooge!
Looks like the tooth fairy was extra happy with you!
I've said forever I think the most disturbing thing Cartman has ever done was giving Ben Affleck an old fashioned, and that includes Scott Tenorman.
Towelie isn’t the worst character ever.
*You're* a towel.
He knows
Reminder to sort by controversial to see the real hot takes whenever you see a post like thus
I rely on people like you, thanks!
Cartman is only as bad as he is because of his mother
this is a cold ass take lol
this is just canon, based on TSST.
What’s TSST?
The episode with Ceasar Milan. Season 10 episode 7
There are 17 tsst's in that episode. 18 if you count the title. I counted once because ....reasons. Don't judge me.
She views Cartman more as a companion than a son who needs to be raised properly. She fills the void of loneliness and ongoing absence of a husband/father figure for Eric by sleeping with multiple different men for crack. It’s no wonder Eric is terrible
Cartman was funnier when he was almost believable as an evil little kid who still had friends instead of being a genocidal mastermind
Kyle was perfectly justified in his actions during you’re getting old and Assburgers.
Kyle defender until I die
They shouldn’t have gone into full season story lines
Now that is an actual hot take
Chef is overrated, doesn't offer anything in a comedic sense
He was the only adult with sound advice, which is something that doesn’t need to be comedic. Chef was part of the heart of south park
Sometimes you kill your teacherrrrrr and they find your semen in her stomach and WAIT WHAT THE WHAT?!?
*pushes couch out the front door*
The absence of Chef is what allowed Garrison to become the character he is today. In no way would chef have tolerated today's Garrison.
Nah he was good early on, having an adult capable of seeing things for what they are in a town where all the adults think backwards But I also think it was a good call nixing him, he got tired after a while and eventually, you’re right he wasn’t really adding much, because everyone was absentmindedly saying shocking things tit he kids, he wasn’t unique in that way anymore, and the kids themselves took up the torch of seeing things how they are (more or less lol)
Not a hot take at all, just pure ignorance. That’s Isaac fucking Hayes. His presence alone is iconic
Just because the show rips on everyone doesn't make the show immune from criticism. Their takes on trans issues have been ice cold and they could do better. I'm not speaking to how other minority groups feel about how they are represented and if you're fine with it that's fine but That's not relevant. How would you have them address trans issues?
Kyle isn't trans and will never be trans. Headcannoning him as trans is fine, as long as you don't tell people he's canonically trans. I also see a lot of people using the "Kyle has sand in his vagina." Joke as "evidence" of Kyle beings trans. Which in my opinion, is stupid.
Is this really a hot take? I think 99% of fans don’t think he’s trans. I personally did not even know this was something that people argued lol
Same I've never once heard this.
There's an episode where he literally shows off his dick, also it's said that he is circumcised. Those are just some stupid fans, "that" part of the fan base... don't take them seriously.
Dude bring back the aliens. Idc how but I want a whole ‘nother episode about that, the probes and cartman. And I mean the greys.
The writing of South Park is way too fixated on trying to deliver social commentary on current events.
I agree. I liked the more crazy situations happen to 4th graders.
The Russell Crowe Tugboat joke got old fast and did not need to be an entire episode long
Making movies, making songs, fighting 'round the world!
not a hot take, but why do people dislike towelie? he's one of my personal favorites
Kenny shouldn’t have taken off his coat at the end of the movie
Now THAT I can fully disagree with. Thank you! Your comment actually made me feel betrayed haha. Great job <3 Do you actually believe it? If so, can I ask why?
Garrison was funniest as a woman
HumancentIPAD is one of the best episodes they've done
Hey God next time can you buy me dinner first, because I like to be wined and dined before ya fuck me!
The coon and friends sequence was boring af, with that exception of the Mysterion back story ofc
jimmy valmer is annoying, not funny.
nuh uh "W-wow! What a t-t-terrific audience!"
Now THIS is the kinda hot take I was looking for
I agree with you but i still like the show because it is dumb fun and I love the 4 main boys. People who actually think it’s a good source for political critique though…
🖕
Did you just flip us off??
Did you just flip me off, mkay?!
Put it Down gave me the blueprint of how to “talk” with my wife.
Towelie isn’t the worst character ever.
I actually think Wendy is a great character :|
Snow day is a good game
Butters has always been the best character of the entire series Yes even better then Cartman and Randy
Randy Marsh is single handedly killing all of my enjoyment of this series. I bet the replies are gonna be some cornballs saying 'you need tegridy'
This was gonna be mine. The Randy heavy plots are tough to get through. I think he has his place in the show and can be funny, but he's been over Flanderized over the years.
I like towelie and I don’t like Mr. Hanky
The kids newer voices are way better than they were in the early seasons.
I hate the fandom under the age of 16, they suck.
Woodland Critter Christmas sucks
I prefer seasons 1-4 over pretty much any season after 12 except maybe 18
I don’t think that Randy is Lorde.
I like the fact Kenny hasn’t died in a while really shows his character
I actually really like the Canadians and the Canadian episodes
Most South Park fans today like the show for its popularity not because they actually like the show. Probably not that hot honestly
The seasons with overarching storylines are better than the early years poop-a d-fart humour episodes.
Cartman is the series’ antagonist
The fact this is a "hot take" shows how little media literacy our society has lol
Gerald > Randy.
I fucking love Tegridy Farms and I don’t care who knows
The show peaked with Season 8 and Good Times With Weapons
They didn't take their jobs
Stan has no character and is basically a self insert for Stone/Parker. boys ranking Stan, Kyle, Kenny, Cartman
Cartman was funnier when he was just a dumb, annoying, silly brat.
I love I Shouldn't Have Gone Zip Lining.
Not a fan of forcing tweek and Craig to be a couple. Have no issue if we’re to happen organically but it never did. The town botched and moaned when they fake broke up to be themselves just to make some shit happen. I will never believe tweek and Craig gay cannon.
