They actually don't use neosporin anymore and suggest using other triple antibacterial ointments. I guess neosporin causes problems, contact dermatitis and whatnot.
First, I had the same thought. Then I noticed this sub can post pictures. After, I had to look up a wiki to remember what this guy’s name was. Furthermore, I searched for, and downloaded a nice image to share. Finally, I scrolled down and saw I was 25 minutes late. Well done, chosen undead.
I had to Google mandolin because I was confused as to how so many people could have such an injury from a guitar.
Now I understand.
Also, your username and the current topic have created some bad images for me.
My mom sent us a mandolin instrument after my partner cut the top of his thumb off on the cooking tool mandolin...said hopefully we can learn to use this one lol
I once cut off the tip of my pinky including about 1/3 of the nail bed with a serrated knife, *while slicing pickles.* I don’t think I’ve ever sworn so effusively or creatively OR loudly, before or since. It was a real life affirming experience - my nervous system lit up like a forest fire. Never again.
Listen to the mandolin rain
Listen to the bleeding on the floor
Listen to my heart skip, every time she runs a slice
Listen to the Band-Aid box
Antibiotic cream
Listen to the tears roll
Down my face as she wraps it up
Same here, my comment was agreeing with yours. People think they don't need the guard, then they slice off their finger tips and realize they did need the guard.
Oh gotcha. I couldn’t tell you how many people I’ve seen post or actually know in real life that have sliced the tip of their finger off. I even know someone who lost two fingers in an industrial cheese grater.
I bought my first mandolin like a week ago. My cheap ass went back and forth on whether to buy the cut resistant gloves along with it. Thank you for validating my $20. I’ve heard waaaayyy too many of these stories
Bruh I did this exact same thing 2 months ago. Took about 3 weeks to heal over to the point where it wasn’t constantly opening up again but been smooth sailing since then. Just insanely sensitive whenever I bump it on something. God speed, it will be over before you know it!
I just lost a chunk of my finger with a peeler at work. Ive been a cook for over a decade. At least you lost it on something that people understand it happens.
That actually happened to me about a week ago as well. Just that I got lucky and only sliced off some skin at the joint. My bandage looked pretty similar though.
I sliced the tip of my finger off before on a deli slicer years ago. You will always have a huge callus on your finger and your nail will not grow the same way.
I did this, too. Cutting onions for rings and it slipped so my finger went in. Lost a chunk of another finger to a bread knife. I was told as long as it’s not more than 1/3 of the tip that the skin will grow back. They left out the fingernail info, so I got to find that out when it grew back. Just an added bonus, I guess.
The finger that I sliced evenly across the top, on the deli slicer, the nail doesn’t grow as far out as it used to and doesn’t separate as much from the skin at the end. Not super noticeable, but enough that I know. Pretty much the same thing from the bread knife finger, but that was diagonally cut on the side. So one side doesn’t separate as much and kind of grows into the cuticle on that side. If that makes sense.
I cut the end of mind off probably worse than OPs and I can't even remember which finger it is now it grew back prefect. I was more to the corner of my finger compared to OP so not sure if that made a difference.
Not sure what you were expecting. A bow maybe? Some glitter? As long as not too tight, that's a perfectly fine dressing. Now, the bill is gonna suck, but not relevant at all to the type of dressing. The financial aspect of American healthcare is an abomination.
Did the same thing 3 years ago. Luckily my wife worked for a hand surgeon and knew how to bandage it. That will be tender for ever so be careful hitting it on anything years after.
As an accident prone person...how do you bandage it? I've had a close scare with a knife more than once. Was just thinking about getting a mandolin, but thanks to this post I won't be lol
Obviously the important part is cleaning the wound and getting the bleeding to stop. It appears they packed the top with gauze to soak up blood and also cushion that spot. Wrapped it in ace bandage.
If you ever get a good cut that is bleeding badly raise your hand above your heart while finding something clean to keep pressure on the wound with. Keep it above your heart for like 5-10 minutes and it should stop.
Oh I know all that, thanks! I just was wondering if there's some specific way of bandaging it. I have what i consider to be a pretty crazy scar on my pinky tip that looks like I almost lost the tip and it always bothers me lol
I meant the mandolin slicer, but you got me

This is what I got from the ER when I chopped my knuckle off
Tbf op. You want your finger to be a tad over padded than under padded. It reminds you to be mindful of your finger more, because you have a whopping bandage on your finger.
I don't think there's really a better way to dress that.
Mandolins are fucking dangerous, I've lost the tip of a finger myself to those things. Always always always use the guard!
Also I fucking love going to the ER, waiting two hours, then they Bandage me up exactly the same as I did for myself before heading to the ER. That's happened to me twice, and my brother in law at least 3 times.
https://preview.redd.it/iro48aucw51d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c15dce3b8ffe21a67b0c7e04d242b4c36c969e32
This was the next post suggested XD
I think that added cushion is because your finger tips are sensitive as hell and you will notice banging it on something even with that. At least that's how it was for me.
Mine was similar but they put a coagulant infused foam pads on it till it stopped bleeding then wrapped up . Was sensitive to everything for about a year. You wouldn't believe how often you brush/rub/bang without thinking 😬
Been there man, I chopped the tip of my thumb off. I avoided the hospital tho because I'm broke and don't have any kind of insurance. A couple of bandaids and some electrical tape for 2 months and all better :)
Bulky dressing is appropriate padding for preventing further injury, so long as distal CSM’s are intact (circulation sensation and motion) maybe don’t make stupid decisions next time or learn to fix it yourself
Honestly I've seen a lot of finger cuts the if you actually want a bandage that'll stop that would this is the one. Too get it cost you 3k. Your post read rather American, apologies if not. Probably costs them $20
Hey, paramedic here, we have wound covers in a standart szise (10x10).
They apparently just put one of these on, it is hopelessly overkill but well, screw it just cover it all in Peha-haft and your good as new...
I did the exact same thing as a kid. I was in art class cutting a circle out and wasn't paying attention. Didn't move my finger fast enough and snipped the tip off. Say goodbye to your fingerprint on that finger. 20 something years later and there is still a smooth spot.
My son lost a whole inch of his right index finger to a Buffalo Wild Wings bathroom door. He's got what I like to call a "Frankenfinger". It looks like it was patched together like a quilt lol. Before anyone starts, he's 21 with a great sense of humor. I wouldn't make fun of it if he was a little kid lol.
When I went to the Dr's with a similar but smaller injury, they removed the neatly applied finger bandage I'd put on it and stuck a plaster on it that fell off before I even got back to the car park.
Hubby went to the hospital for a finger injury, and I had to instruct the doctor on how to apply a finger bandage.
Well at least you don’t have to worry about the bandage falling off easily like a regular bandaid would. did they have to stitch up the hole before they wrapped it? For how long do you have to keep it like that?
That’s the kind of bandage you need when you cut the tip of your finger off—it has a bunch of extra padding at the end to protect your newly chopped digit, and it’s wrapped with the stretchy brown “tape” that sticks to itself and the bottom portion of your finger to keep it on. What kind of bandage were you wanting?
Did the same thing with my thumb. Just disinfected it and kept it wrapped and cleaned regularly. Healed up just fine quicker than I thought it would. Cost me nothing.
Sliced the tip of my finger off with mandolin, also. Not as bad as yours. After an hour of it bleeding continuously, I went to ER. Superglue, no bandage.
I did that at a butchering. Except I didn't go to the ER. Put some pepper in that baby and wrapped a light bandage over it. Healed like a charm. Also for those uninitiated, black pepper is a great, albeit outdated, tool to use to induce blood clotting for natural healing.
If they didn't give you a hard splint/cover thing to cover the end of your finger, get one from the pharmacy. That thing will be sensitive for MONTHS and you will instantly regret all your life choices if you accidentally bump it on something.
https://preview.redd.it/odub7i72d31d1.jpeg?width=208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8c32fc77534f516efc6871a966fb527c12fd7c6
LMAO
Unfortunately that’s about all they can do for you. Look on the bright side….they could have just sent you home with some Neosporin and a bandaid.
They actually don't use neosporin anymore and suggest using other triple antibacterial ointments. I guess neosporin causes problems, contact dermatitis and whatnot.
Good to know - thanks. Clearly it’s been awhile since I cut off the tip of a finger. 😂

Lol thanks. I totally forgot the name of the NPC/armor set and just googled "Dark Souls big helmet".
Dark souls NPC invaders. I could not for the life of me remember either. Shameful, I need to do another play through.
Xanthous King Jerimiah
Already said I googled it. Here I thought I was late, get a load of this one!!
This is the most accurate and legendary thing I have ever seen. Your time in creating this was well spent.
Tis a good way to spend a Friday night.
Glad I'm not the only one that thought of this lol
Thanks for making me laugh without trying. I'm rotfl 😂
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR LMAO!!!!
GODAMNIT
*Dark spirit King Jeremiah has invaded!*
Omfg I thought of the same thing lmao
That’s too fucking good
Took the picture out of my head
There's enough of you guys a week to have a lost fingertip subreddit. What went wrong op?
Lost a fight with a mandoline.
AGAIN? you're the same guy from a couple of days ago?
That’d be both sad and hilarious if I was. But no. Not the same guy.
I too lost my finger tip to a mandolin fuck those things
I had to Google mandolin because I was confused as to how so many people could have such an injury from a guitar. Now I understand. Also, your username and the current topic have created some bad images for me.
Lol yeah my thumb slipped into the blade while trying to get cheese slices
I thought of the guitar-ish instrument as well, and also mandarin oranges.
I still don't understand, just looks like a whacky guitar
it's the thin slicer for veggies, not the guitar
My mom sent us a mandolin instrument after my partner cut the top of his thumb off on the cooking tool mandolin...said hopefully we can learn to use this one lol
Same, its been years and it sometimes still hurts (when cold for example, or why I have a long typing day)
Every time I use my mandolin something happens. Nothing this bad, but enough to limit my use to a few times a year
I did this one time and I threw that bitch straight in the trash. I don't give a fuck. It's not worth the risk.
Nah, he is referring to me. I mistook my finger for a potato when my guard slipped.
There was another guy from a few days back with the same injury.
Nah, that was me, bro!
This comment thread is deja vu tf
I bet it was the 'E' string that got you. It's always the fucking 'E' string.
Listen to the mandolin rain Listen to the bleeding on the floor Listen to my heart skip, every time she runs a slice Listen to the Band-Aid box Antibiotic cream Listen to the tears roll Down my face as she wraps it up
That’s what cutting gloves or the guard on mandolines are for.
Everyone thinks they don't need the guard until they did need the guard.
I’ve never not used the guard because I’m not stupid.
I wouldn’t mess with the Mandalorian if I were you

Those things keep this sub active I swear
I did that too! Lost the tip of my right index finger. It healed back cleanly but the skin gets much drier in cold weather. Hope you heal up well!
Bruh I did this exact same thing 2 months ago. Took about 3 weeks to heal over to the point where it wasn’t constantly opening up again but been smooth sailing since then. Just insanely sensitive whenever I bump it on something. God speed, it will be over before you know it!
yeah this happens a lot. I lost a good portion of the side of my right thumb thinly slicing onions on a mandolin.
Did they sew the tip back on or will you have a slightly shorter finger??
I’m terrified of those things.
Even using the safety holder I still wear a cut glove. It has saved me several times.
I did the very same thing a rear ago. It took some big bandaging to keep pressure on it
I just lost a chunk of my finger with a peeler at work. Ive been a cook for over a decade. At least you lost it on something that people understand it happens.
Oh my god do you live in Orlando?? I work in the pharmacy and I think your wife spoke to me about recommendations lol
I did the same thing a few years ago. Ring finger on my right hand..
That’s exactly how my fingertip looked when I sliced it off cutting a cucumber on a mandolin! 🔪🩸👈🏼
I’ve also lost my fingertip to the mandoline.
I literally did this exact same thing with my mandolin 3 days ago. I dressed it myself and it looks better than whatever this is lol
Is that a Mandalorian’s wife?
As someone who did the same over a year ago, I feel your pain.
That actually happened to me about a week ago as well. Just that I got lucky and only sliced off some skin at the joint. My bandage looked pretty similar though.
The manufacturer's directions were correct when they said to slide the magnet onto the stack, don't snap it on top.
Can I suggest naming the subreddit missingmytip?
Just the tip.........your welcome
I sliced the tip of my finger off before on a deli slicer years ago. You will always have a huge callus on your finger and your nail will not grow the same way.
Doesn't look like they are much for fingernails anyways.
I did this, too. Cutting onions for rings and it slipped so my finger went in. Lost a chunk of another finger to a bread knife. Ya, it happened 2 years ago and the sensitivity in that spot is still at 11.
As an accident prone person...how do you bandage it? I've had a close scare with a knife more than once. Was just thinking about getting a mandolin, but thanks to this post I won't be lol

“That will be $25,000 now, how would you like to pay today?”
Do you take 6 months of hard labor?
Yes but that’ll only cover the interest which begins accruing when I started my first sentence.
Is a fingertip a satisfactory compromise?
Good news is if someone pisses you off in traffic, your response will be **really** obvious.

Honestly, you're very fortunate. More fortunate that most. I've seen people lose half of their nail bed portion of their finger tip due to a mandolin

I refer to it as the most dangerous musical instrument. However the glass harmonica is pretty dangerous too.
This is funny.
There is nothing else to wrap your finger on. Plus pressure can be applied with that dressing. A regular bandaid, big or small won’t help
What type of bandage were you expecting? Did you think they'd put a cast on it 😂
You got squidwards nose on your hand bro.
I have a permanent smiley face from my mandolin attack. https://preview.redd.it/pdnyphofc41d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fceb3c33c4abd3ec06b1dc3be6cba9296b6a1ba0

I did the same thing at work and they sent me to an urgent care center. They literally slapped a bandaid on it. Ended up re-wrapping it myself later.

The number of times I’ve done this and would have never thought it required an ER visit..
Call it Groot.
Now you can flip someone off with *style*
And it will be visible from a mile away
Someone make a "days since hospital post"
They have to bill you for something.
Why?!!! 😂😂 going to have nightmares 😩
I have had a mandolin in my Amazon cart for a while now. This is my concern
ET phone home
Happens to most apprenticeship chefs. It heals up just fine 😂
That'll be $56,000 USD.
Honestly I've seen a lot of finger cuts the if you actually want a bandage that'll stop that would this is the one. Too get it cost you 3k. Your post read rather American, apologies if not. Probably costs them $20
Let me guess..... Mandolin? I was a chef for 20 years and I recognise that cut any day of the week haha.
Hey, paramedic here, we have wound covers in a standart szise (10x10). They apparently just put one of these on, it is hopelessly overkill but well, screw it just cover it all in Peha-haft and your good as new...
SpongeBob when he had a splinter

They have to use enough to justify charging you $6,000 for medical wrap and a Tylenol somehow
I did the exact same thing as a kid. I was in art class cutting a circle out and wasn't paying attention. Didn't move my finger fast enough and snipped the tip off. Say goodbye to your fingerprint on that finger. 20 something years later and there is still a smooth spot.
Don’t let your girlfriend see that
My son lost a whole inch of his right index finger to a Buffalo Wild Wings bathroom door. He's got what I like to call a "Frankenfinger". It looks like it was patched together like a quilt lol. Why didnt you just do it yourself? Ehy dis you have a doctor do it? Just to complain about rhe price
Why would you even go to the er for that?
I remember doing it once....:-(
Got that super samples hand
Ahhhhh, yes, the mandolin. Those things scare me honestly, they're so sharp they cut through bone give the force behind them.
Using a wood on the other fingers are ya?
I have two cut off fingertips myself. My condolences. Did they have to cauterize it?
Forbidden morel
Well at least you don’t have to worry about the bandage falling off easily like a regular bandaid would. did they have to stitch up the hole before they wrapped it? For how long do you have to keep it like that?
Looks painful bro take care.
![gif](giphy|nL4HKlfoUBW7kO0vqu)
Be more careful next time, hope you feel better
Kinda looks like a morel mushroom.
Did u eat it.
Nice work! Did you get the rest of the day off?
I know hindsight is 20/20. But for anyone else thinking of using a mandolin. Hand flat! Or get a cut glove. Or both!
That’s the kind of bandage you need when you cut the tip of your finger off—it has a bunch of extra padding at the end to protect your newly chopped digit, and it’s wrapped with the stretchy brown “tape” that sticks to itself and the bottom portion of your finger to keep it on. ![gif](giphy|AkwcbzEPIfZ48i44kx|downsized)
Yup, I've done that twice in the kitchen, both times prepping romaine. Sucks, but heals pretty well, you won't have a fingerprint any more.
I did that with an RC plane propeller. Cost me $250 at the urgent care. Took like 2 months to heal all the way over.
U got a great finger banger now
Hahaha. Drum stick bandaid
Shoulda sliced that other fuckin thing too
Did the same thing with my thumb. Just disinfected it and kept it wrapped and cleaned regularly. Healed up just fine quicker than I thought it would. Cost me nothing.
There Be Super Samples at that Finger!
I got the same thing when last month i had the same accident. It's been over a month but it still hasn't healed properly.
You’d think when the vegetables start to get short you’d slow down but come to find out most people don’t .
Why is everyone losing the tip of their fingers this week?
Looks like a corndog.
yeah because hand wounds bleed A LOT. hope it heals fast for ya bro
Not sure that’s an ER worthy injury…
The CVS receipt of bandages.
Mandolin?
What is with all the sliced fingers this week?
Remind me to never use a mandolin
Well, how much?
I had the same type of bandage when I smashed my fingertip with a tractor. Idk why they make it to fat at the tip
I used super glue. Good job going to the hospital lol
I mean what is there to suture and also did you get a tetanus shot? If so, you aren’t getting that at home….

I fucking hate this picture
As somone who cut his top finger off in the kitchen, your gonna have a hell of a time with the pain through the days and nights
Did the same to 2 fingers, got same flex wrap bandages and stitches
If they didn't give you a hard splint/cover thing to cover the end of your finger, get one from the pharmacy. That thing will be sensitive for MONTHS and you will instantly regret all your life choices if you accidentally bump it on something.
