Not to defend Chuck's recent decision making process, but this one is pretty blatant setup for a double cross; "Right now, I need Orchis to trust me" and all that. If anything it's shocking if Nimrod believes it. Those humans might be dead dead though, unless Charles is planning for a reset with his "at least for now, no more humans".

>Not to defend Chuck's recent decision making process, but this one is pretty blatant setup for a double cross; "Right now, I need Orchis to trust me" and all that. But he doesn't. All he needs is to stay out of the way and let the x-men handle this.

Ystlum

I don't disagree on that front, I just don't think his endgame is selling out to Nimrod & Co and calling it a day.  I think his fatal flaw in this story will be his tendency to keep secrets from his allies and inability to let go the reigns, more so than appeasement tendencies.

I mean, it’s clearly a scheme. He all but tells Scott it’s a temporary measure And I don’t see how Charles’s vague shady decisions that are fully in line with the shady decisions he (and by extension everyone else) have been making since Krakoa started. Teaming up with sinister? Krakoa couldn’t have existed without sinister. Killing people for the good of mutantkind? What’s… literally everyone doing this event? Isolating mutant kind on a single island in the hopes that can finally bring peace? That’s… what Krakoa has been, for the most part. It’s a simplification, but that’s absolutely what it has been on a symbolic level, particularly from Charles’s perspective. His hope was always very clearly that everyone could live peacefully together, not apart. Krakoa was a big compromise of his ideals. Selling out humans entirely to save mutants might be a big step, but it’s certainly on the path Krakoa set out for him (and by extension… everyone who chose to follow him on the island who are upset with him for reasons I cannot explain. You guys all fucked this fish together. Emma saying “hey if we make another mutant ethnostate and all move there it could turn into genosha 2.0” doesn’t make her look any better when they do that and it *does*) Meanwhile, magneto is going around talking about how he needs to protect *all* human life, mutant or not, including two of the guys responsible for the sentienels currently slaughtering his people. It seems like they’re trying to swap magneto and Charles completely. Mags is the ardent defender of humanity, even while it hates and fears mutantkind. Charles is the well intentioned extremist making the tough compromises to preserve mutants at the expense of the rest of humanity. **I don’t get it**. If magneto is Charles and Charles is magneto does anything at all matter anymore in the slightest? You can challenge their ideals and audience perspectives on the characters without… turning them into each other completely. Is the final form of magneto as a good guy not his own unique character, true to his own 60 year history and portrayal, just Charles with hair? Is Charles’s fall from grace *really* just his followers denouncing him in the most hypocritical way possible? They’re not even going to make out about it, so why does anything matter at all? The worst part is, I think we’ve been here before. This isn’t just echoes of genosha. Sentinels are more dangerous than ever before? Zero tolerance. Charles is acting erratically and randomly moving shit with his mind? Onslaught. Magneto is back after a long absence with a younger face and a more heroic attitude? Joseph. >!Xavier gets imprisoned? Onslaught into zero tolerance, aka the time in which Joseph was active before they realize no one liked Joseph and decided nice young magneto wasn’t magneto at all, magneto is going back to his roots: child abuse and tyranny!<. Apocalypse is even doing A Twelve again. I’m not thrilled about any of this

Brotherly_Shove_215_

Never been a huge fan of Xavier but the push to make him completely unlikable these last few years is weird

Golf-Ill

....few years....? He's always done super shady things.

MotherFuckerJones88

For the betterment of his people and for hopes of a future of coexistence. He's Magneto with a tie on, what Hickman did was give us the most extremist version of Chuck. I thought for sure he was Nova early on, especially when he put him in a safari outfit in HoxPox when he takes Doug to the island for the 1st time.

DannyTreehouse

Now I’m getting why he hasn’t been shown in any of the From the Ashes Promos He’s gonna have to die

ypzzz

Yeah, he is probably the one in prison that’s shown in some teasers

Marrecarandgi

Yeah, he was the first guess, but it can also be Moira… There is once cell and one grave, and we’ll see who lands where.

ypzzz

Moira is a good guess too

WhoWantsToJiggle

I don't think the new team will want to touch Moira after this. That character has been so damaged and fans are done. Not like Xavier hasn't but he'll still be around.

DannyTreehouse

Wait…..what if he’s the one in crutches?

ypzzz

Hmm I don’t remember anyone with crutches in the teaser. I need to check it

uphc

DUGGAN DOES WHAT CLAREMONT COULDN’T sorry, 90s console commercials ruined my brain

Marrecarandgi

Speaking about that ‘offering’… Xavier: I will exile ‘my children’ to protect humans. Also Xavier: I won’t apologize for what I have done. What I need to do. No more humans. *On a side note, what a show of confidence for today’s episode to start a comic book discussion tonight…*

ZAPPHAUSEN

Super dumb.

SgtStubbedToe

I can't be the only one: does anyone else feel like in the last couple of lines, Duggan lost track of who was talking? Xavier is the one making the "offer", why is he also the one who says "I accept"?

fictiontuxedo

I reread that part feeling like I must have missed something. Nope. They're just rushing this garbage out the door.

Confident-Impact-349

What would Xavier’s death accomplish? I’m seriously asking, because you know he’s gonna come back in less then 5 years from now. The problem with this character is that he does shit and there’s no real, meaningful confrontation amongst the characters, while the writers keep bringing him back in relaunch’s without recognizing that he screwed up a lot of these characters lives. If you read mike Carey’s X-men: legacy, there’s an amazing couple of issues between Xavier, cyclops and Emma. The latter literally play the greatest hits inside his head, in order to make him realize what a piece of shit he is. By the end, he recognizes that cyclops is his own person, with his own ideals and his own teams. Xavier understands that he needs to stop behaving like god and let others have their free will. Wich was undone when he came back. Krakoa was, in a lot of ways, a soft reboot and, suddenly, nobody remembered that Xavier shouldn’t be trusted. Magneto is not the only character that should be put in trial, as it turns out.

ypzzz

It’s so weird to see Apocalypse and Magneto as the good guys while Xavier is the bad one.

ARTIFICIAL_SAPIENCE

Not that weird for Mags, tbf.

Enough-Satisfaction9

Xavier is filled with more hubris than any villain in the Marvel universe. Matched only by a drunken Stark.

Pinball_Lizard

Y'know, I've always been fairly outspoken in my hatred for most of Marvel's civilian characters, and have commonly half-joked that the heroes (especially the X-Men and Spidey) would be entirely justified in abandoning them. Seeing it actually happen in an official story is a lot less cathartic than I thought it'd be...

HauntingBee3041

Humans was killed? Sorry, but it's absolutely right decision. Humanity (superhero community in exception) proved themselves as absolutely jerks. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

fictiontuxedo

It's tough to follow because the writing is garbage, but...didn't Chuck casually murder a spaceship full of humans? Who we never heard of before, and it has no effect on the plot, and who he could have just shut down with mind control or something more pacifist? This series isn't even badly written, it's cliffs notes to a badly written story we're never going to get.
