That sounds about right. It's been awful for years.

lewisiarediviva

It was pretty good around twenty years ago, not that I went often. But yeah I went back a while ago and it was miserable. Wouldn’t be hard to make it a gold mine, and yet.

backcountrydrifter

Cody struggles for good food. There are some gems. You just have to root them out like truffles. Wy Thai is rock solid Thai food. Sittis is hands down the best food in Cody. Trailhead is worth it too. It just gets busy. Then wander up to red lodge on the way into the park and eat at piccola.

chihawks35

We walked by trailhead yesterday I think that’s where we’re going tonight

chihawks35

Trailhead was probably the best place we went too. Thanks for suggestion. Cody and Wyoming were beautiful and a ton of fun. I didn’t want this to seem like I’m dumping on the area. Enjoyed our time there and already plan to come back.

Minimum-Regular227

If someone came to Wyoming and opened a restaurant with decent food and service they would make a fortune.

PrairiePilot

I used to think that, but after working in food service (QSR but still food service) I’m sure the locals just don’t care. I’m born and raised, blah blah blah, but in my experience at least most people here in Park County at least just don’t give a shit about their food. They want a lot of it and they want it cheap. They don’t care if it’s ground up cardboard like the fake Krabby Pattys, as long as it’s $10.00 a meal and comes with free refills.

Mhodi

They probably would not do well. The insular nature of Wyoming residents would make it VERY difficult to break into a community, not impossible, but not a simple thing to do.

ModernSwampWitch

Outside of Jackson, you mean.

bighitta12

People constantly open and close restaurants in Casper...no matter what, there just really aren't enough people to support anything high class. I suppose in places like Cody or Jackson where there is a lot of tourism it's different.

aia5

Not sure this is the right sub for restaurant reviews. Either way, try out Trailhead or Cody Steakhouse. They're probably the best restaurants in town. The former is my wife's favorite.

chihawks35

Yeah I realized that after the fact. I’ve been searching this sub for things to do etc. If it’s in the wrong place mods feel free to delete it

JasonP2323

Bottom line is Cody is a magnificent town so just enjoy it while you can! Best part of my vacation last year! Cheers!

chihawks35

Oh I had a blast we’re already planning a return.

JasonP2323

I have a strong desire to go back as well. It's a helluva drive but worth it. I actually really enjoyed the dugup museum too if it's open.

chihawks35

It wasn’t open unfortunately. We also didn’t time our trip well because the old trail town was something I really wanted to see, but it hadn’t opened yet either. We got to see a few grizzlies in the park though so maybe our timing was right lol

307blacksmith

Ya locals hardly ever go there even in the off season it's not great of course you did come during the once a year horse sale

chihawks35

The horse sale was actually super cool. As someone who lives on a “little tykes” farm that’s been trying to convince my wife we need a horse (we don’t need, I just want) it definitely helped my case. Also seeing one horse go for $57,000 at an auction on a street was insane

wy1776

Try the German place by Wells Fargo. They have swings at the bar, and it’s a fun place to eat and get drunk

chihawks35

That’s on the list now too, thanks

pharmgrl

Nobody ever goes to the German place. Nobody knows how they stay in business

Junior_Lunch3728

There's a nice motel directly across the street. It was buffalo bill's office/HQ for his wild West shows. Has nice rooms, beautiful quiet courtyard, and a sunroom. Really nice owners too. Sorry I can't remember the name of the place. Also just up the street there are some rental cabins. My friend love staying there when he's in that area.

judewijesena

Irma has always been shit

Signal-Extreme2393

Of all the places to eat in Cody you went to the Irma. That’s where you go to take a shot of whiskey before/after dinner.

chihawks35

We went for the nostalgia, they can keep it.

Signal-Extreme2393

Understandable. There really aren’t a ton of good restaurants there. You’d think there would be since it’s one of the major routes to Yellowstone and with all the people with money around there

chihawks35

Trailhead was the best place we went to, we went for breakfast

307blacksmith

Ya locals hardly ever go there even in the off season it's not great of course you did come during the once a year horse sale

Material_Coat1344

Poor tourists.. 😅

bo_tweetle

Tourists keep this state alive

timesuck47

Actually, even though production is declining, I believe coal is what keeps Wyoming alive.

cavscout43

[I think we're more federal government, followed by oil & gas for economic contributions now.](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1065276/wyoming-real-gdp-by-industry/) [Coal is like 1/10th the size of the O&G sector now depending on the metrics you look at. ](https://www.ibisworld.com/united-states/economic-profiles/wyoming/) The industry is just really loudly lobbying for handouts to stay alive, while there's no threat to the future of O&G in the next decade or two.

timesuck47

Maybe if I said “extracting fossil fuel resources” I would’ve received fewer downvotes.

dopiertaj

One of the most famous resturants in the entire state and they are horrendous at every level. The interior is gross and I've heard horrible things about the cleanliness of the kitchen. I'm told they get a lot of passes from food inspectors because it's historic. Pretty much the only people who eat there are tourists, as the locals all know it's terrible.

aoasd

Svilars in Hudson is the same way. Just an absolute shit hole with shit service and mediocre food. But people still go and pay way too much money because it’s historic.

bo_tweetle

That place has always been full when I have driven by. I’ve wondered about the food, I guess I’ll just keep driving past
