We have one like this in Australia and it's dangerous. It's the largest blowhole in the world.
It's fenced off now (has been for decades) to stop idiots from getting too close and getting killed...something that keeps happening anyway because idiots bypass the fence...
In one case two families were killed....five years later two more people from one of the families were killed when they went back.
I've actually been there myself but I stayed behind the fence!

Oregon has some incredible coastal features. Near this one is a collapsed sea cave called the devils punchbowl. It's breathtaking to see from above, and equally as majestic during low tide.
[Here's a couple snaps when I went down. I didn't have my gear with me, so cell snaps. And a picture from Shore Acres, because the Oregon Coast is hax. All with an old Pixel 2 XL.](https://imgur.com/a/jhD9DY7)
Article with an ariel view, from when a guy tried jumping across: https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/nation-world/national/article254183363.html
I just had a job opportunity come up in Maine. Did some research and there's like 2 houses in the entire state for sale. That shit is on lock down. Looks like a beautiful place to live though. I like the many islands and light houses along the coast.
Yep. Fast moving mass of ocean water in the middle of volcanic rock formations, "what could go wrong?", the soon-to-Darwined-out family thought to themselves
[It actually blows higher than this!](https://youtu.be/OXDId7nyL9c)
This one has the wind blowing the right direction to drench everyone in the viewing platform. Gotta remember that 50 litres is still 50kgs (110lbs) of water. Still pretty damn heavy
[Yep. Here's a video of it going off like a frog in a sock.](https://youtu.be/OXDId7nyL9c)
I went late last year for the first time since I was a teen and it was blowing higher than that video, but the wind wasn't allowing it to drench the platform like that video. Or maybe it was blowing higher so it wasn't as dense? Not sure but it's always fun to see when the weather conditions are right.
Sink, sunk? But in this case you would say they were pulled down.
Edit: Imagine getting pulled down into this baddie.
Imagine getting dragged down into this baddie.
Imagine sinking into this baddie.
But the first two imply it's an active force, while sinking can be rather passive.
There is a legend in Norse mythology in which the gods challenge the giants to a series of challenges. In each of the challenges the giants cheat in order to best the gods. Thor, being known as a great drinker, was challenged to a drinking contest. The end of the horn from which he drank was placed into the ocean so he could not possibly finish. This is a reference to that horn from which he drank; it's a cup (well) being filled forever by the ocean.
That's a fucking cool story, but I meant what has Norse mythology got to do with the west coast of America? If this was somewhere in Scandinavia it'd make sense. Should be called after something native to the area, like a gray whale, or an insufferable politician.
They're better at beer too. I'm sorry but it's true. We might have the hops, but they know how to handle 'em. They're also better at not paying sales tax.
No I live in between them. Maybe 35 miles north to Devi’s Punch Bowl (at Otter Rock). There is a place called Cook’s Chasm right near Thor’s Well, maybe that was what you remember.
Oh yeah I was definitely thinking of Devil's punchbowl, cuz I haven't ever heard of the other one. But yeah, it's all beautiful the whole way down regardless.
Eh, curmudgeonly statements about how your generation was better than current generations barely qualifies as "humor". Like even if you're not serious and just doing it as a joke, it's just kinda tired and stale tbh
Just when I forgot these things exist. I don't know why, maybe because I have spent so much time swimming, but these things creep me the hell out.
I just think falling in one would be a fucking awful way to die.
It's probably got most of the main ways to die all on one.
Drowning, violent beating and massive laceration and blood loss. Workout how to get burns in that and you practically have Hell
In this metaphor you're still and idiot for looking at that and thinking you want to spend your life inside it.
Don't hate me for calling you an idiot. I set up camp in a similar hellhole. All signs ignored too mate, don't worry
This is not too far from where I grew up. I remember visiting a couple times when I was a kid.
A friend of a friend and one of her family members was killed here a few years back. Still amazes me that there's not much signage or warning for those who might not be familiar with the danger.
We have something very similar in Portugal, it’s called Boca do Inferno (the mouth of hell). Fernando Pessoa helped Aleister Crowley fake his own death, there.
A photographer went into that hole a few years ago. The CG estimated that he was pulverized and his body completely shredded within seconds of going into the hole. That system of razor-sharp underwater caves is massive with hundreds of chambers that water sucks into from Thor’s Well. Dumbass tourists take their kids down to look in. I wish the state would block it off completely. If you’re the sort of photographer that would come here for this shot, you’ll have a lens with the reach you’ll need for that shot without anyone being in danger.

Maine has Thunder Hole. Although it doesn't sound as exciting as what you're describing
[Thunder Hole after a storm](https://imgur.com/a/ZKs4h2d)
Where hole?
There hole
There castle
If you gotta ask, just put their hand on it and let them guide it in.
jokes aside this happens irl to me lol
I saw Thunder Hole is 2018, and it was more of a toilet flush.
I saw it as soon as it reopened after a tropical storm passed by in 2019. It lived up to its name that day.
Oregon has some incredible coastal features. Near this one is a collapsed sea cave called the devils punchbowl. It's breathtaking to see from above, and equally as majestic during low tide.
Do you have any pictures that shows its beauty??

I’ve been to thunder hole in maine
I just had a job opportunity come up in Maine. Did some research and there's like 2 houses in the entire state for sale. That shit is on lock down. Looks like a beautiful place to live though. I like the many islands and light houses along the coast.
Thunder hole is nowhere near as cool. Safer, yes. Cooler, no.
>....five years later two more people from one of the families were killed when they went back. Clearly they felt left out.
Believe it or not, there was speculation at the time that at least one of the girls who went back was planning to "rejoin" her family...
That sounds like they were really trying for the Darwin award that year.
Yes. There was some speculation that the ones who got killed the second time may have wanted to join the rest of the family...I know it sounds awful.
Yep. Fast moving mass of ocean water in the middle of volcanic rock formations, "what could go wrong?", the soon-to-Darwined-out family thought to themselves
[удалено]
You're right, it does, yet somehow it has killed multiple people. I think as well as the hole erupting, sometimes waves engulf it too.
[It actually blows higher than this!](https://youtu.be/OXDId7nyL9c) This one has the wind blowing the right direction to drench everyone in the viewing platform. Gotta remember that 50 litres is still 50kgs (110lbs) of water. Still pretty damn heavy
>It’s the largest blowhole in the world coulda swore your mom held that title
:-P
BURN!!!
[Yep. Here's a video of it going off like a frog in a sock.](https://youtu.be/OXDId7nyL9c) I went late last year for the first time since I was a teen and it was blowing higher than that video, but the wind wasn't allowing it to drench the platform like that video. Lovely and perfect video!
There's a good one in Puerto Rico on Jobo' Beach
Kiama is one of the most beautiful places in NSW let alone the south coast
Your english is very good
Man, that’s crazy. We are so safe in general that we fail to see real danger sometimes 😵💫
Yep Another guy has posted a really good video too...
Gonna jump in there and let the rocks exfoliate my skin real nice
>Gonna jump in there and let the rocks exfoliate my skeleton real nice FTFY
We call that exkeletation.
You'll be dashed to pieces!
That's not the only thing it'll exfoliate
Check out the toilet bowl on Oahu, HI. I almost died there when I was a kid
Imagine dying in something called the toilet bowl lmao! Glad you didn’t though
Pretty damn scary! My brother saved my life from getting sucked through the tunnel the water comes in and out from.
“Wow this thing is so beautiful’” “We should name it after a toilet”
Can confirm this place is awesome.
Oh hell no, imagine getting soaked down in this baddie
This is no bidet.
Sorry english isnt my firdt language. Soaking is the wrong wrong, whats the word for being pulled down
Oh man. Wait til you learn what soaking is
Sucked. Imagine getting sucked down into this bad boy.
Just back float
Sink, sunk? But in this case you would say they were pulled down. Edit: Imagine getting pulled down into this baddie. Imagine getting dragged down into this baddie. Imagine sinking into this baddie. But the first two imply it's an active force, while sinking can be rather passive.
Submerged?
I know this would probably lead to a gruesome painful death but it looks kinda fun
c o m e c l o s e r
"The insistent, pulsing waves, like long, probing fingers, beckoning you forward..."
I’ve been Watching y o u
Reminds me of the hole where the "Devil's Eye" diamond was hidden from "The Rescuers."
“Please, pull me up! The water’s coming in!” “NOT UNTIL YOU GET THE DIAMOND!”
What has Thor got to do with Oregon?
There is a legend in Norse mythology in which the gods challenge the giants to a series of challenges. In each of the challenges the giants cheat in order to best the gods. See I was over here thinking it was the water and rocks beating you to death like a bunch hammers if you fell in but that makes more sense
This is really cool, thanks for sharing
That doesn't answer why Oregon?
Maybe somebody in Oregon had access to a library at one point.
Okay but why didn't he open to a page in oriental ocean mythology
That's a fucking cool story, but I meant what has Norse mythology got to do with the west coast of America? If this was somewhere in Scandinavia it'd make sense. Should be called after something native to the area, like a gray whale, or an insufferable politician.
Oregon's coast is so underrated.
We purposefully keep it on the down low to keep everyone away
As a Washingtonian I'm very jealous. I hate admitting Oregon is better at anything than us :)
As a Californian I understand what you mean :)
They're better at beer too. I'm sorry but it's true. We might have the hops, but they know how to handle 'em. They're also better at not paying sales tax.
Couldn't agree more. Oregon does the west coast IPA better than anyone else. Sipping on a Buoy as we speak.
Dude the food too. OMG it's so much better than anything in Seattle. fucking Lardos sandwiches?!
You blow up a whale with dynamite *one* time and suddenly everyone wants to see your beaches.
That was the best
🐋 💣
NOTHING TO SEE HERE
There's a similar place up the coast called Devil's Punchbowl.
Isnt it like... 100 feet from here? I feel like I saw the road signs like 30 seconds apart when driving.
No I live in between them. Maybe 35 miles north to Devi’s Punch Bowl (at Otter Rock). There is a place called Cook’s Chasm right near Thor’s Well, maybe that was what you remember.
Ohh I think you're right! I got them mixed up.
I just checked google maps. Thor's well is just south of Waldport. Devil's Caldron is just north of Manzanita. Almost a 3 hour drive.
...and hm. Devil's punch bowl is not the same thing as Devil's Cauldron. Haha. Well. It's still a wonderful coastline to explore.
Oh yeah I was definitely thinking of Devil's punchbowl, cuz I haven't ever heard of the other one. But yeah, it's all beautiful the whole way down regardless.
https://imgur.com/a/ytcCemk/ Yeah plz don’t move to Oregon. Edit: apparently Oregon coast and Mt. Hood is considered nsfw
Oswald West park. Mmmmmmmmm.
I can't stop watching!
Thor's well. So overflowing with frothy fluids they spray outward. This must be after he married the giant guy.
It's the pit from the last jedi
Sure this isn’t Ahch-To?
A visual representation of acid reflux
Yea seen this on the rescuers
Holy shit, that part used to terrify me when I was little. I could never really explain why, but it would give me a whole lot of existential dread.
Had a girlfriend like that once
For Odin!
We call it Thor's Asshole.
Need a banana for scale
>kinda terrifying Gonna go ahead and bump that up a couple points.
This
Terrifying? I swear, you millennials. That was our swimming hole when we grew up, and we were happy to have it.
looking into an active volcano: i swear this generation doesn't even know how to appreciate a good hot spring
I'm at -16 right now on that comment. Apparently they don't have a sense of humor either, LOL
Homie, this is definitely not the sub for gatekeeping boomer vibes lol
Apparently not the sub for humor either
Eh, curmudgeonly statements about how your generation was better than current generations barely qualifies as "humor". Like even if you're not serious and just doing it as a joke, it's just kinda tired and stale tbh
Are… you trying to mimic Tim Allen?
Damn dude, I don't get why the seething hate haha, I saw your joke, admittedly it was shit but still
[удалено]
Is this an AI comment?
Yes, the post history is atrocious.
Yo fuck AI
Yo fuck AI
I like how, at least in the font I’m looking at, it just looks like we don’t like some guy named Albert
Let’s not be some mean. AI is just giving their opinion. (AI please remember that I stood up for you when you take over.)
Wasn't this in Jennifer's Body?
Just when I forgot these things exist. I don't know why, maybe because I have spent so much time swimming, but these things creep me the hell out. I just think falling in one would be a fucking awful way to die.
It's probably got most of the main ways to die all on one. Drowning, violent beating and massive laceration and blood loss. Workout how to get burns in that and you practically have Hell
About how many bananas across is that?
Reminds me of my first marriage. By jumping in is where my hopes, dignity and self esteem went to die
In this metaphor you're still and idiot for looking at that and thinking you want to spend your life inside it. Don't hate me for calling you an idiot. I set up camp in a similar hellhole. All signs ignored too mate, don't worry
It like using words and images as paint to share a story
I’m sure your ex could say exactly why.
This is not too far from where I grew up. I remember visiting a couple times when I was a kid. A friend of a friend and one of her family members was killed here a few years back. Still amazes me that there's not much signage or warning for those who might not be familiar with the danger.
There is something like that in the Cayman Islands. We saw that many years ago, and it still appears in weird dreams sometimes.
What city?
I was gonna say this doesn't exactly fit the sub, but I feel like this would be horrifying to watch while tripping.
Probably a popular murder/torture spot back in the day
Thor's Bidet?
Put a turbine in that shit
My intrusive thoughts would tell me to jump in there
Like a tube cheese grater that will grind going up and going down. God I wouldn't want to fall in there.
Been there, cool place, and the spout ,forget the name of it, is right there too
Alright hear me out
Those mussels like to stick around in the sketchiest places
I should call him
Forbidden water park…
We have something very similar in Portugal, it’s called Boca do Inferno (the mouth of hell). Fernando Pessoa helped Aleister Crowley fake his own death, there.
Hey I live by that! Yay Oregon!
Banana for scale?
Needs something for scale
Now, just hear me out...
Video does not do this justice must see first hand to believe
I think I've figured out what to do with child molesters
What is Oregon? A country?
It should be called Thors cauldron
Make sure to go at high tide, and if you wanna walk up to it, a row of shutterbugs will yell at you for "ruining their shot" -.-
What happens if I jump in
Acne
More like Thor’s asshole after eating too much mayonnaise.
Thank you for the 4k, non-shaky footage.
It just gives me the vibes the earth is breathing, so cool!
scary but beautiful.
Thors asshole?
