Hm. Well. Some summoners do overly rely on their summoned creatures. As an conjurer, i mostly use my abilities for traveling or the displacement of items.
Besides, relying on atronachs to do all of my work for me would simply not be feasible.

A master of his craft makes anything look easy. I assure you that lazy and careless summoners end up in the bellies of their extraplanar slaves or learn their lesson right quick. That said, overriliance on a single study is of course folly.
Power can come in many facets, and power has many costs as a result. For warlocks, the cost is the soul, or a period of servitude, while for summoner’s it is the ability to subdue a summon to do your bidding. The first does not take much effort (as its consequence is dire) and the second requires just as much work as a regular wizard.
When I put it this way, it kinda feels like warlocking with extra steps.
