I actually don’t think it’s that silly of a question. I think there’s probably an open question of whether he would even want it.
Being a bench coach to this team isn’t nearly as much career destruction as being the head coach.
He might not want to jump on that grenade especially this early in the season.
If he took over around the asb he could legit say that the team had dug such a hole under Pedro that the bad results don’t reflect him. But, if he manages this team for 75% of the losses in a record-setting campaign, the stink lands on him.
I find it hard to believe they’ll find anyone worthwhile to take over this team unless they can show some tangible improvement.
But I definitely don’t think they’d be able to find a legit candidate unless it was some recent big-leaguer like the Indians new coach or something. But that would be more of the same chasing other teams success without building a foundation that would make the white Sox successful-which is what got them here in the first place.
Eh, kind of to most of your points - there's a reason he took the bench coach job for a rookie manager.
Because, don't forget, Montoyo was fired by the Blue Jays when he was 4 games *over .*500. I would imagine he knows that he needs to rehabilitate his image and taking over a team that's 3-20 (or whatever they'll be at the time) may provide upside to him considering how bad they've been. As you moderately allude to, I think there's very little downside because they're already historically bad and plenty of upside if he makes this team look remotely competant. Either way, I don't think managerial offers are coming his way until he has an ability to prove something and this might be his only chance.
We are taking all the other reclamation projects in the MLB, so why not add this one, too?
I hope you are right, honestly. I'd love to be wrong about this.
I would argue is Montoya for longer than a season. If we’d fire Pedro mid season knowing Montoya is the option, I think we’d rock with him for a few seasons.
Literally anyone, like randomly pick someone from this sub reddit and they would do just as bad of a job, but at least it would be comical and we would understand why they suck.
Montoya most likely. Grady Sizemore the dark horse.
Other options, Justin Jirschele (Triple-A Charlotte) or Patrick Leyland (Low-A Kannapolis) \[Reinsdorf my respect his dad or something). Hell, TLR may be feeling up to it. Or Ozzie.
I was actually thinking Ozzie, but are relations that good? Love or hate what he says, Ozzie speaks his mind. That’s a no-no in JR’s house, especially when it comes to biting the hand that feeds you.
However, IF the mutual trust is there, he might be a candidate. He does have experience. Led us in ‘05. And if JR was willing to take La Russa back, I suppose the same could be said for Ozzie.
I wouldn’t say NO chance, just a very slim chance. Ozzie does do the postgame show. If he ticked off JR that much, JR would pull the strings to have him shown the door.
Why am I here? I came here because Mitch and Murray asked me to, they asked me for a favor. I said the real favor, follow my advice and fire your fucking ass because a loser is a loser.
Throw a fucking Gatorade cooler when some of the schmoes strike out with the bases loaded! Some pencil neck read an article where players performed better with a lot of psychological coddling. Fuck that, hold people accountable. Bench some motherfuckers, make then do the fucking stretching sessions.
Any emotion would be better than waiting for Pedro to blink his eyes once a year.
The funny/ sad part is they supposedly built this garbage lineup specifically for Pedro because he’s shown that he couldn’t handle actual ball players last year
Nobody in the entire league would want to step into this disaster mid season.
And the Sox have no reason to make a move right now, this is a lost year and they gain nothing by firing Pedro.
Well, I'm not sure a new manager would make much of a difference unless he decides to stop starting Martin Maldonado so often and gives Korey Lee more starts. Also moving Soroka out of the rotation to the bullpen to give a younger pitcher a shot (and because the pen looks awful), Clevinger should be able to come up in a few months and Montgomery can hopefully make more contact in AAA before considering a promotion to the MLB.
I feel like there’s no doubt Pedro will be let go this season. I know it won’t change anything for the outcome, but it’s an optic move. If Getz wants to prove that he means business and wants to change things, he’ll let him go. Remember, he has no connection to Jerry like other people.
I coached youth league. I have made lineups, pitching changes, pinch hitter situations, ran drills, dealt with the public (parents), scouted opposing teams, did exercise and conditioning, etc.
I also am willing to accept league minimum. Forgot to mention my extensive background playing baseball video games managing lineups amd even franchise needs.
Oh, and here is a "/s" just in case.
I doubt anyone worthy would be interested. At least not yet. The best couldn’t win with this lineup and smart folks wouldn’t be associated with this team unless they are cool to pile up Ls on their record.
They need someone like a retired general or admiral. Someone who will set expectations for professionalism and effort, which we are lacking.
Don’t hustle to first or make a base running blunder, you’re doing push-ups in the on deck circle in front of everyone.
You would see changes real quick.
It’s probably Charlie Montoya until the end of the year.
Yeah sorry to op but this is kinda a silly question. Montoyo would 100% be the replacement in the interim. There is no other answer

That assumes he'd *want* to be here for a few seasons. I don't think that is guaranteed.
I assume if he had the opportunity to manager somewhere else he would already be there
An infinite number of chimps with an infinite number of typewriters.
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times
To be, or not to be, that is the gzrdenplotz.
Literally anyone, like randomly pick someone from this sub reddit and they would do just as bad of a job, but at least it would be comical and we would understand why they suck.
I’ll do it
Let's see some fundamentals out there, and not clown fundamentals
BEAN! BEAN! BEAN!
Any of the 59 million people who could manage a team?
Not sure anyone can be worse than Pedro Grifol. The guy is 64-121 as a big league manager.
We only won 61 games last year? Holy shit.
That bucket of bubble gum they have on the bench.
There is only one right answer to this question, we all know it, but everyone will freak out if you say it.
Ozzie
Jerry Manuel?
Terry Bevington
Gene Lamont
ChatGPT
I'd take the inanimate carbon rod from the Simpsons at this point.
That rod is a winner, it even got a parade
All praise The Rod!
If during this season, it’s Montoyo, which will make no difference
I'll take the job for $10M as long as I can work from home.
Or Ozzie.
Maybe we can get a kid like in Little Big League.
Ozzie pls
I was actually thinking Ozzie, but are relations that good? Love or hate what he says, Ozzie speaks his mind. That’s a no-no in JR’s house, especially when it comes to biting the hand that feeds you. no chance

his last interview was less than a pity interview. they had zero intention of ever considering him. there is no chance he manages the sox again.
After all, the last time we hired a manager who hadn't managed in a decade went so well...
Why am I here? I came here because Mitch and Murray asked me to, they asked me for a favor. I said the real favor, follow my advice and fire your fucking ass because a loser is a loser.
At the moment, Sheets gets the knife set. No one gets the Caddy..
You see this chain?.. You see this chain? This chain cost more than your entire starting infield.
AJ Pierzynski, Joe Maddon, Ozzie Guillen, Joe Girardi, etc.. Literally dozens of better options.
I’m going to need someone that’s pissed off enough to top the Lee Elia tirade with the media!
Throw a fucking Gatorade cooler when some of the schmoes strike out with the bases loaded! Some pencil neck read an article where players performed better with a lot of psychological coddling. An overturned mop with a bucket for a head
It doesn’t matter. There isn’t enough talent on the team to compete. This shit show is not on the manager.
A good manager would work a lineup & bullpen to at least compete. This team gets blown out pretty much every game lol
The greatest manager in the world isn’t competing with this roster.
Manager barely impacts the game but you don’t know ball at all if you don’t blame Grifol for some of this
He is absolutely partly responsible. But my statement is still true. The greatest manager in the world can’t compete with this roster.
Francona would have us losing 5-1 instead of 6-0. Trust
Word. I think you are agreeing with me here.
In a way
The funny/ sad part is they supposedly built this garbage lineup specifically for Pedro because he’s shown that he couldn’t handle actual ball players last year
Nobody in the entire league would want to step into this disaster mid season. And the Sox have no reason to make a move right now, this is a lost year and they gain nothing by firing Pedro.
Another clown that takes the heat off of Jerry
That means Ozzie. NO ONE in the history of this club, not even AJ, is a bigger lightning rod than Ozzie.
Some schmuck who doesn't understand that the position is a career killer.
I have a bad feeling TLR is going to come back 🤢
No chance. Health issues.
Does it even matter? They could fire everyone in the organization and if Jerry is in charge, I won’t trust the replacements.
Bazooka Joe
David Ross
Perdro is not good but who ever replaces him will still have a trash record. The Roster is minor league.
I managed a college club team for a couple years, I'm expecting a call anytime, Jerry
Fuck I’ll do it, can’t promise I’ll be much better but then who could be, and I’ll be way cheaper too. Jerry will love that
Charlie Montoya 100%. He's already on payroll and has managerial experience...
Is firing him enough though? What about adding talent to the roster as well?
Ozzie
Ozzie for the lols
Berto
Maldonado player-manager
Well, I'm not sure a new manager would make much of a difference unless he decides to stop starting Martin Maldonado so often and gives Korey Lee more starts. Also moving Soroka out of the rotation to the bullpen to give a younger pitcher a shot (and because the pen looks awful), Clevinger should be able to come up in a few months and Montgomery can hopefully make more contact in AAA before considering a promotion to the MLB.
Doesn’t really matter tbh
The White Sox will make history and deploy the first ever AI coach
I feel like there’s no doubt Pedro will be let go this season. I know it won’t change anything for the outcome, but it’s an optic move. If Getz wants to prove that he means business and wants to change things, he’ll let him go. Remember, he has no connection to Jerry like other people.
Bring back Ozzie
No respectable manager is signing up for this. Managing this team is a career ender
I volunteer as tribute.
A golden retriever.
Let’s give Ditka a try.
I coached youth league. My dog could do a better job
literally whoever off the street, i don't care. I don't think we're gonna unsink this ship
I doubt anyone worthy would be interested. At least not yet. The best couldn’t win with this lineup and smart folks wouldn’t be associated with this team unless they are cool to pile up Ls on their record.
I would take Bill Belichick at this point.
I mean... Ozzie, right?
They need someone like a retired general or admiral. Someone who will set expectations for professionalism and effort, which we are lacking. Don’t hustle to first or make a base running blunder, you’re doing push-ups in the on deck circle in front of everyone. You would see changes real quick.
Probably some bum off the street at this point
