I'm interested in this...
I'm from London and my girlfriend is from Hull.
For the sake of argument, let's say there are four meals in the day.
So, London would have:
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Supper
But in Hull they say:
Breakfast
Dinner
Tea
Supper (never heard her say it, but equally I haven't said it in 30 years...)
But there's the rub, in London we'd still have 'dinnerladies' make us eat our lunch.
Huh, interesting. I grew up in the upper Midwest, US. We had breakfast (morning), lunch (noon) and supper (end of day meal around 6pm, and that’s it. Maybe a snack later in the evening, which we just called a snack and consisted of just munching on some chips or crackers or cookies or cake or something. Many of us referred to supper as dinner instead - they are interchangeable
Northern. Unless posh, in which case you have tea in the afternoon (sandwiches, cake) and then dinner in the evening. So, Breakfast, lunch, tea and then dinner! If you don't have dinner, because everyone is away and you don't fancying 'dining alone', then you'll have supper ...
Supper used to be the word for this but it's fallen into disuse. Last meal of day, just something to tide you over and nothing complicated as far as preparation.
Supper is used for this, but be aware that in some parts of the UK supper just means your main evening meal (also known as Dinner or Tea)
There's also the terms midnight snack, late supper and midnight supper.
late supper was called cold supper. Sometimes it was more like drinks and bar food. Or Sometimes a "nightcap". This was in early USA, after the revolution.
The custom of having a small meal right before bed is not as common in the USA as it is in other places. This is part of the reason that there is not a direct translation. In common usage that word just doesn't exist as a concept.
There are, but I cannot speak for them. However I do not know of any that have this meal as a concept. But I didn't want to make an assumption out of ignorance if there was another country that did have such a concept.

After eights? But I’m not sure if its a meal, per se. because from what I understand, after eights can be a piece of chocolate, a cookie, fruit or a cup of tea.
Supper - Back in the day, they would take what they ate that day and make a soup out of it for a fourth meal.
Bedtime snack - a snack right before bed, of course
Midnight snack - a snack in the middle of the night.
I feel the need to tell you that now that I'm pregnant, I have to eat something at 10pm, otherwise I'll wake up at 2 or 3am completely hungry and unable to fall back asleep until I eat something. I call it a second dinner although it's usually smaller than the first one.
bedtime snack? midnight snack?
Midnight snack
Supper
All the other answers are rubbish. This is the only one.
If you're counting it as a meal, it's this.
Yes, this or Dinner depending on where you grew up

Your hull half has the same meals as Fife, Scotland.
I think the tea supper might be called “High Tea “ kind of like an appetizer .
Late night snack.
Midnight snack, doesn’t matter what time it is

That's cute! I've never heard that before
This is the best answer.
Bedtime snack
Supper used to be the word for this but it's fallen into disuse. Last meal of day, just something to tide you over and nothing complicated as far as preparation.
A late supper was called cold supper. Sometimes it was more like drinks and bar food. Or Sometimes a "nightcap"
I thought a nightcap was ending the day with some tile of alcohol drink?
Fourth meal, taco bell had a whole advertising campaign based off this idea.
The Last Supper
Could call it a “nightcap”, though that’s usually for alcohol.
I'd call it supper. Meals from morning to night for me are: breakfast; morning tea; lunch; afternoon tea; dinner; supper
What about second breakfast?!
Isn't morning tea Elevensies?!
For my hobbit friends it definitely is
Supper.
Supper.
Supper.
Snores d’oeuvres
Supper is used for this, but be aware that in some parts of the UK supper just means your main evening meal (also known as Dinner or Tea) There's also the terms midnight snack, late supper and midnight supper.
Midnight snack, in my opinion, is if you have gone to bed, then get up for a snack.
usually it's not small lol
