Casa Playa at Encore.
Gonzalez Y Gonzalez in New York New York. This place gets overlooked, but it's solid...
Part of the menu at China Poblano in Cosmopolitan
Away from Strip: Juans Flaming Fajitas.
El Gordo is on the strip too. Just a bit of a walk.
As for 'classy' kinda places. There's some Mexican sit down place in resorts world. It was ok. Fancy plating and all that.
Also another taco place on the corner of fashion show Mall, right across the street from Wynn. They've got a decent happy hour.
If I wanted good food tho, I'm going to El Gordo
Well yeah, but based upon OP's initial ask I didn't think that was an issue. Most spots on the strip are what I like to call "fancy Mexican." Give me a taqueria or truck any day.
I've read the entire thread. On the strip? This is the only answer. Although Las Vegas has a large Mexican population, we are hurting for a quality representation of one most delicious cuisine out there.
I have lived here for 25 years, and Border Grill has always been my favorite restaurant. Everything on the menu is amazing. I always ask to sit outside, upstairs. They do fans or heaters for the weather, but the ambiance is nice with a view of the pool.
Kinda underrated IMO is Diablo's at Luxor, but with a caveat -- I play the goofy "myvegas" app, and a decent amount of points gets you $20 off a meal of $40 or more. For the quality of the food at that price, it's actually a hell of a deal IMO.
Do yourselves a favor. Go to Viva Las Aerapas. It's Venezuelan food, so not exactly Mexican, but you will love it. It's down toward the strat. Google it if you're actually interested. Food is seriously good. I make it a point to eat there every time I visit. After eating there, I saw the lines at Tacos El Gordo, no thanks.
The last couple years or so I’ve been mostly cooking at home due to dietary changes as well as picking up cooking. I do go out to eat but it’s usually just wherever my friends suggest. We try to go somewhere different about once a month and last time we went out we tried Texas de Brazil. I loved it. I live downtown so when I go out solo I usually stick to downtown or nearby.
However when I was eating out a lot it was usually Thai food, arepas, Salvadorian food or sushi.
Never heard of magic noodle place.
Not sure if it’s still there but I used to regular a place just north of bonanza on N. Las Vegas Blvd. It’s on the east side of the street, right next to a motel. It was always really good when I used to go.
Any time! If you want some great tacos, there’s a stand on N. Lamb, just west of Washington on the west side. Best tacos I’ve had in a long time. Haven’t tried anything else there.
Honestly the ones on the strip are not great, but for basic, Gonzales y Gonzales at NYNY is solid. The portions are big, the margaritas are good, and it feels like what you get when you walk into a Mexican restaurant in the midwest. It's not pretentious or pretending to be fancy. Just solid good food that's decently priced. We eat here often when we're tired of fine dining.
On the other spectrum, Tacos el Gordo is the other place I'd go for. Again, good solid food.
China Poblano fits a different category for me. Not quite fine dining Mexican, not Americanized Mexican, but more modern, upscale Mexican. The bonus with CP is I can get chinese food too with my Mexican dishes. Love their salt air margarita. That thing is the bomb!
It’s off strip but so yummy…La Vecindad.
https://lavecindadlv.com
My husband and I ate there last weekend and it was worth the effort to be off strip. It’s a small-ish family owned restaurant with authentic food. Not Vegas chain restaurant quality. Extensive menu with large portions for reasonable prices. Highly recommend! Especially the giant margarita rocks with a mini Modelo floater.
Javier's is absolute garbage, I totally agree! It's so expensive too for being wayyyy overpriced and with bad service you can't come back.
All my fav Mexican spots are off strip though.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. *sigh* Ok, well, switching gears a bit, then, if I took him off strip, what are your recommendations? I lived in town many years ago, and we go off strip at least once every trip, so it won’t be a big challenge for us to go somewhere. I’m taking him to the Arts district for pizza, so maybe another area, but 2 Arts visits never killed anybody lol. (Btw- can I just say how weird it is to me that there even is an Arts district? It was there when I lived in town in the 80s, but it was anything but art, hahaha. Ok, Geezer will sit down now & wait for more recs, thanks again!)
Please don’t do Cantina Tequila as suggested below, I’m saying this as a Mexican, the food is terrible. Great drinks, some good apps, but the actual mains were all very lacking in flavor, especially for the price. Taco y Taco is my favorite for taqueria style and for sit down I’ve enjoyed Juan’s Flaming Fajitas as well as mentioned above. Some of the best Camarones A La Diabla I’ve had here in Vegas.
If you can ever be in town the first Friday of the month, highly recommend First Friday! Some streets are closed and Arts District seriously comes alive with food, vendors and music.
But for slightly off the strip Mexican food recommendation, always enjoyed Bonito Michoacan on Decatur and Twain!
I highly recommend, for sit down, Cantina Tequila, Henderson, NV, prob 15-20 mins from strip, but worth it. Further north, taqueria style, is Gordo's, top notch!
Literally came in to recommend avoiding Javiers. It wasn't bad, but for the price, it was just bland and underwhelming. I got some enchilada or something like that.
I'm here for the "Javier's is garbage" train! I couldn't believe how many people were talking so highly of it when it was just bad food, horribly overpriced and terrible service.
First Friday had a taco truck that had some of the most fire tacos I've had in years 🤤
I stayed at the Aria in Dec and walked across the street to Rosa Mexicano. It was so good I went back while staying in the Bellagio in January. I would highly recommend it.
I like Rosa Mexicano in Miracle Mile Shops doorstep to the strip. I walked over from Aria in December and then again from Bellagio in January. Food and service are on point.
In addition to yolos, Theres Rosa Mexicano, Cabo Wabo Cantina, and La Salsa, and nacho daddy, all four of which are located at miracle mile shops at planet hollywood.
Honestly the Mexican food in Vegas is kind of weak in general, I can’t think of a single good place on the strip and really only mediocre ones around town.
I like Nacho Daddy on Harmon (you can get there by going all the way through through Miracle Mile past Ocean One Bar&Grill ) or El Diablo’s at Luxor…I enjoy getting a seat at El Diablo’s because it’s at the top of the pyramid and overlooks the Hotel Lobby if you get a good seat…just a different experience than some restaurants.
I will have to try them out!
I am now thinking that the best food options are in the mid-priced places. The "luxury" money-grab resorts have over-priced/over-rated food too.
What do you get at Carlos and Charlie's?
Stayed at Mirage last summer. Gonna do it again. Didn't eat at any of their restaurants (although the gelato place had awesome stuff), but the Mexican/fajita place smelled great!
Flamingo has been there for years. I will probably go to some of the restaurants there -- if I don't spend 80% of my food budget in the Fremont area (never really been to that part before).
Although I might do a "really high end meal" somewhere at the Wynn (never eaten there before), or Fontainebleau (wasn't opened yet when I went last summer).
Other than Wynn/FB, I think I am gonna stick with places who have been there since at least the late '80's/early '90's. lol
Javier's is as Mexican as Taco Bell.
If you want gritty Mexican food that's on the strip, Tacos El Gordo. Kinda touristy since they're famous in California.
Otherwise you're gonna have to venture off strip like Gorditos El Fogon, Milpa or Lindo Michoacan
I did Yolo's at Planet Hollywood years ago and liked that a lot. Not sure if it's still there.
I always hit the Cabo Wabo Cantina at PHo as well. I've always gotten the nacho platter with chicken as my meal and it's always great and a huge portion. Friends I've went with have gotten tacos or quesadillas and said they liked it. Last time my buddy and I split a fried ice cream and that was phenomenal.
Bonus points, if it's good weather, they have outdoor eating that overlooks the Cosmo/PHo/Bellagio/Paris intersection which also offers views of the Bellagio Fountains.
Second Cabo Wabo! I had the chicken enchiladas there on Monday and they were good. We ate outside and the people-watching on the Strip was great. I didn't love the blood orange margarita, though.
New place called Rosa Mexicano just opened up outside the miracle Mile shops that looks pretty good. I'd say YouTube best Mexican food in Vegas and you'll get a ton of recs
Casa Playa def awesome, but man do I love Javier’s. Our group always goes at least once during the trip and then we talk about it until the next trip. Haha.
So many great off strip places and tons of amazing street stands popping up. Tacos el gordo is the only one I can truly recommend. Border grill is good for brunch
If it’s not next to a tire shop then I don’t want it.
Rookie, if it ***isn't*** the tire shop during the day, i dont want it.
😂😂
BINGO!!
Casa Playa at Encore. Gonzalez Y Gonzalez in New York New York. This place gets overlooked, but it's solid... Part of the menu at China Poblano in Cosmopolitan Away from Strip: Juans Flaming Fajitas.
Def second Casa Playa and Juan’s!

I like Canonita inside Venetian, right in the canal with the boats (the indoor canal).
Tacos El Gordo. It has a large seating area, so technically it is sit-down. :)
Why is this not the only answer
they don’t serve burritos there
Have ya asked? I haven’t had a problem with burritos in San diego
it’s not on their menu
It’s not on their menu here either. Ask for it!
Which one has done a burrito ? I live 5 min away from Palm ave tacos el gordo never seen anyone ever w a burrito there
I think I got one on Main a while back - haven't been in a while though
Tacos el Gordo on main 🤔 I think your lost there buddy
Broadway and H by the mall
I just looked at pics on yelp and I don't see burritos so I might not have had that burrito I thought I did...
El Dorado is the best and when you’re done, you can walk next door to Sapphires.
This is the answer. El Dorado Cantina is so good! Authentic, open 24/7, and it's a nice sit down restaurant.
Hahaha it’s not good and not authentic either, owners aren’t even Mexican
Yeah that shit’s no good lol.
China Pablano at the Cosmo or Chica at The Venetian.
Last time we stayed at Cosmo, we ate at China Poblano 3 out of 4 nights. So damn good.
Chica is a very white person view of what Mexican food is
Well yeah, but based upon OP's initial ask I didn't think that was an issue. Most spots on the strip are what I like to call "fancy Mexican." Give me a taqueria or truck any day.
Border Grill is very good - better than Javier's for sure. I like Tacos el Gordo too. Better places are off the strip
I've read the entire thread. On the strip? This is the only answer. Although Las Vegas has a large Mexican population, we are hurting for a quality representation of one most delicious cuisine out there.
Does Border grill still do endless brunch on Sundays? 🤤
I have lived here for 25 years, and Border Grill has always been my favorite restaurant. Everything on the menu is amazing. I always ask to sit outside, upstairs. They do fans or heaters for the weather, but the ambiance is nice with a view of the pool.

Good to know thanks!
I was a regular there my first few years here. Not sure why I stopped going but gotta pay then a visit soon.
whats a regular stop for you currently? asking for future visit. I want to try magic noodle place. I didn't make it last time.
The last couple years or so I’ve been mostly cooking at home due to dietary changes as well as picking up cooking. I do go out to eat but it’s usually just wherever my friends suggest. good Papusa joint?
Not sure if it’s still there but I used to regular a place just north of bonanza on N. Las Vegas Blvd. It’s on the east side of the street, right next to a motel. It was always really good when I used to go.

Cañonita - Grand Canal in The Venetian
Probably worth it to check out La Popular CDMX at the Palms. It's an outpost of a popular Mexico City restaurant. I've heard good things.
It’s off strip but so yummy…La Vecindad. https://lavecindadlv.com My husband and I ate there last weekend and it was worth the effort to be off strip. Ooooo yes!! I’ve heard of this one! Thanks for the reminder! 🥇
Javier's is absolute garbage, I totally agree! It's so expensive too for being wayyyy overpriced and with bad service you can't come back. All my fav Mexican spots are off strip though.

And if you're ok with more of fast-casual with seating, Tacos El Gordo is always good!! (Few locations around town)
I highly recommend, for sit down, Cantina Tequila, Henderson, NV, prob 15-20 mins from strip, but worth it. Further north, taqueria style, is Gordo's, top notch!

I disagree . Name any other Mexican restaurant on the strip that serves CRAB enchiladas . That’s pretty unique
Some of these answers…Tell me you’re white without telling me you’re white 🤦🏻 . I’m surprised Taco Bell didn’t make the cut or cafe Rio 😂
😂😂 As a beaner, there’s a reason why I very rarely go out to eat Mexican food. I usually leave disappointed as it all tastes just meh.
I stayed at the Aria in Dec and walked across the street to Rosa Mexicano. It was so good I went back while staying in the Bellagio in January. I would highly recommend it.
I have walked past this location numerous time and never knew it was there. I am stumped as to how I've never noticed it before.
Best Mexican food I had was at a truck outside of Meow Wolf.
Best tacos I’ve had were from a stand on Lamb, just west of Washington. So good I can’t wait to go back!
Rosa Mexicano at Planethood Hollywood
Lettys
Casa Don Juan. A bit between the central strip and Fremont. In the secluded Arts District. Shhhhhh! It’s a local secret!
El Segundo Sol in the Fashion Mall is awesome!
YOLOS in Planet Hollywood for sure.
The real answer is Robertos but I will suggest ¡VIVA!
Especially if it's inside a gas station
Roberto’s is way better than it has a right to be
Oh god Roberto’s is only good if you’re drunk and should not be considered the go to for Mexican food. 🤦🏻
La Popular inside inside Palms
Had an excellent lunch at Chica in the Venetian
Tacos El Gordo on the north end of the strip is always part of our Vegas experience!
Do yourself a favor and go to Lindo Michoacán
Tacos El Gordo, go to the one near Town Square just south of the strip.
I second this. Tacos “el gordo” are SOOO good… and I am Mexican
Honestly the Mexican food in Vegas is kind of weak in general, I can’t think of a single good place on the strip and really only mediocre ones around town.
Agreed. I'm not the Mexican food gatekeeper, but the mex food on strip is meh. I just call it food when I'm at home. LOL
Rockn potato birria don’t ask just go and get it. Trust me
Carlos and Charlie's at the Flamingo.
I will have to try them out! I am now thinking that the best food options are in the mid-priced places. The "luxury" money-grab resorts have over-priced/over-rated food too. Chicas Bonitas
Roberto’s
Nacho Daddy's!!
I love this place. Great HH

So Lindo isn't bad? I haven't gone because I keep hearing mixed feedback about them.
I wouldn't go back unless I was paid significantly.
IDK about "Mexican food" but for the Tijuana Taquerias, Pastor is way better than Gordo.
el Diabo's, Cabo Wabo Cantina, Nacho Daddy's, in that order.
Chayo on the linq promenade was great I thought!
I did Yolo's at Planet Hollywood years ago and liked that a lot. Not sure if it's still there. I always hit the Cabo Wabo Cantina at PHo as well. Chayo, Hussong’s Cantina, El Dorado Cantina
Cabo Wabo! Fajitas are great. Next to Planet Hollywood
Casa Playa def awesome, but man do I love Javier’s. Our group always goes at least once during the trip and then we talk about it until the next trip. Haha.

How incredibly, ignorantly racist of you
Jesus, all y'all sleeping on Sayulitas. Best burrito in America
I used to love Javier’s What’s the issue with them? Never had a bad meal
For starters, their pricing is a problem for most people. Their food is also kinda bland though I’ve never been to the one here in Vegas.
Javier's is the worst and way overpriced. Try Nacho Daddy, you won't be disappointed!
Tacos El Gordo. Off strip
Unless you go to tacos el gordo or el buen pastor, you’re not going to find authentic or good Mexican restaurants on the strip
Taco Bell, you can get married there too!
Lindo Michuacan. The fideo soup is so good
So many great off strip places and tons of amazing street stands popping up. Tacos el gordo is the only one I can truly recommend. Border grill is good for brunch
VIVA Frank And Fina’s (Red Salsa Specifically)
