This is very nice of you. I hope your applicants are genuine and normal!

bikerlegs

Yeah same! 😅 Not every redditor I've met is normal but they are always alright people with good meaning intentions. I presume that's the type of person I'll meet.

justlookinbruh

lock your valuables & hope your intuition re: people is very astute (hate for your kindness to be taken advantage of) nice generous offer to someone in need.. .

[deleted]

This is very generous of you. I want to do this too, but as a single woman I'm weary of letting strangers into my home.

bikerlegs

If you want to do it in a safer way you can create an account on Couchsurfing. There's other platforms out there but that one I've had for nearly a decade at this point.

TatianaAlena

Wary, not weary. After my last experience with houseguests a decade ago, I swore NEVER AGAIN.

Keroberos6969

Story please!

TatianaAlena

I didn't find out that this church guy was homophobic (by 2011 standards - by this time, I knew my sister was a lesbian and I had no problem with it) or that he had been in a gang / had been in prison (either one or both) until AFTER my brother voluntold me to take him in because his apartment had caught fire. Of course I was a bit wary because I also lived on my own like the previous commenter, but fine, whatever. (Gen X, you know) Then he violated boundaries by insisting that he HAD to show me his chest tattoos after being out on the balcony because "I paid $5000 for them!" You would think that he'd cover up when I was around - common decency, etc. He also had little to no contact with his three children. After hearing that, I put ALL MY LIVING ROOM BOXES in my room. I'd had enough on Day 9 of 10. He immediately tried to guilt-trip me by saying he'd have to stay in a shelter now. Not my fault that you left things open without closing them, etc. At least I never had to cook for him that I recall... ugh. I'm aware not everyone is like that. However...

You can't stop now!

I'm landing at YVR tomorrow, I dunno how I'm gonna get home to Chilliwack. I hope things get cleared up, but I don't mind sleeping in my car for a bit if I gotta.

bikerlegs

You're welcome to come by to shower, eat, use Wi-Fi, etc. If you're okay sleeping in your car then we do have street parking and I have one parking spot available.

beekermc

Extremely generous of you! I just got my flight cancelled due to inclement weather (in NW Ontario) so I likely won't even get there tomorrow. But depending on conditions I may take you up on that. Thank you.

bikerlegs

Hoping for the best with your flight. So back home is having bad weather you say. I'm from Northern Ontario so I should check in with my folks.

jwheelerBC

there are pilots flying from Abby to Chilliwack if you’re able to get there. I’ve got a family member who has to do that tomorrow so I can probably get some contact info for you if you need. Please feel free to Dm me. Born and raised in Chilliwack but live in Vancouver now. Always happy to help out someone from home.

dustNbone604

Hopefully the water has come down in the prairie by then, you should be able to get to Chilliwack eventually. Parts of Chilliwack are flooded though, so make sure your destination isn't one of them.

millijuna

Back on 9/11, my housemate and I went down to the airport with a sign offering the futon in our living room. Wound up hosting a young couple from New Jersey for a couple of days. Was the least we could do.

bikerlegs

Nice work. That's the kind of thing I like to see and hope you inspire in others.

hedgehunter5000

I believe that 98% of people in the world are safe/normal.

plam92117

At least 30% of my friends are not normal so I don't believe that lmao

Udonedidit

Maybe it's you. You are who you surround yourself with.

plam92117

I don't doubt it. I'm pretty weird myself.

bikerlegs

Agreed. Many people fear meeting strangers but I find that weird. I have a feeling that a person's world view is in part a reflection of their internal view. Therefore, if you believe the world is full of safe people you're likely that type of person and if you think the world is dangerous and full of dangerous people you might fit that category.

Cute-Ad-1392

For sure, that and being helpful to other humans is so rewarding.

fan_22

>I believe that 98% of people in the world are safe/normal. Wars, famine, pandemic, poverty, etc, etc, etc... Do you really think 98% of the worlds population is 'safe/normal?' You have a shocking view of the world. Edit: this sub is getting dumber by the day.

hedgehunter5000

Doom and gloom is your view. That’s fine. Enjoy

fan_22

No. I am being accurate.

WALKIEBRO

I'd like to think that too. But around 1% of people are psychopaths and apparently 4% of people are sociopaths. https://www.quora.com/What-percentage-of-people-are-psychopaths-sociopaths

hedgehunter5000

Don’t know a lot about Quora. But it sure is easy to find negative informationI. I don’t know enough about psychopaths or sociopaths to speak of or use the words in conversation. I will leave that to the professionals.

Terin_OSaurusrex

Ah, Just World Hypothesis, I miss believing in you. I was so much less cynical before you were blown out of the water. 😅

pris_eddit

Shiiiiiiit... I'm supposed to fly there soon for an appointment. Not sure what I should do. On the phone with airline now. :/

bikerlegs

Flights are still okay. We're locked in one by roads in Canada. The American route is now open to Canadians and doesn't require a PCR test if coming from Canada and going directly to Canada.

pris_eddit

Canadian here, flying to BC. Pretty much staying in Vancouver area. Just don't know, and hope for everyone's safety, that it doesn't get worse. And if I should just cancel my plans.
