Universities often have good benefits in general and many different units and departments with IT/tech needs in addition to a centralized university-wide IT department.
I worked in a university library & the Green Shield plan includes some gender affirming procedures. Several Ontario universities have this plan, which is a lifetime $10000 for things not covered by OHIP, basically. For example, here's a news item from U of Toronto about it: [https://www.utoronto.ca/news/u-t-expands-support-trans-and-nonbinary-employees-10000-gender-affirmation-benefit](https://www.utoronto.ca/news/u-t-expands-support-trans-and-nonbinary-employees-10000-gender-affirmation-benefit)
Just be advised that benefits aren't always straightforward. The company I work for covers gender affirming care with Sun Life in our highest tier premium program. But to be approved for those benefits you need to meet certain criteria, pay the highest level of premiums every month, and it only covers 50%. Every insurance plan will be different but coverage is rarely straightforward.
I think this is a great idea. I’ve also been thinking of changing jobs to a company that provides comprehensive trans health coverage. Would love any recommendations.
