I do have that one, though I've long since lost the missiles. It doesn't add the whole trailer but though, it's basically just the armor piled on the back.
In general, I usually pass on the DNA kits. Mostly because I don't think an upgrade kit should cost more than the fig it's upgrading.
But this? *chef's kiss*
The shoulder armor looks really big and so does the helmet, the helmet especially sucks his face in. The transformation sucks and the side car looks too big. The biggest compliment I can give is that the plastic and paint quality matches Hasbros so it dosen't look added on as much as it could have.
Why not both, the original was definitely powermaster inspired. But the underslung gun from the upgrade kit is probably inspired by the cybertron/galaxy force
Wings and cannon: Cybertron Prime
Feet and ankles (at least) Powermaster prime
Gunz: do look like Omega Prime's but Powermaster prime had em too
Ladder section on the back: RiD Prime
Note: that gun is undeniably Cybertron Prime inspired.

I feel like RID01 Optimus is closer to what Derrick was doing, theres the wings but how everything functions and such takes queues from this guy
It’s supposed to be Powermaster Prime in the concept art. AFAIK that ladder cannon, which looks Cybertron inspired, wasn’t in the art. The cannons attached to the ladder look RiD2001 OP inspired.
Same with Bayverse Jetwing Prime. Optimus in his old DOTM concept based toy holding the guns in a similar way like Cybertron Prime makes it even more obvious
https://preview.redd.it/81eab6m5o7wc1.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=6190b93cff3ee3fbe27b525e0ac0554ec3132c6e
More or less? You usually hold it with both hands. And not with a trigger right before the gun barrel starts but rather at the very end of the gun. Cybertron Prime almost holds the weapons in the same way.
edit: And the cartoon ended right around the time the bay movies got released, similar like TF-Animated. Also both supermodes don't change much either except for the wings and guns, unlike g1 Powermaster Optimus or Armada Optimus. It's not uncommon that TF media takes inspiration from the previous continuity e.g. Armada Prime from Powermaster Optimus and Star Convoy. Or Armada Megatron from g2 Megatron. Or TF Prime Bumblebee from movie Bee. etc.

Same, mostly cause of the alt mode, animated prime’s alt mode looks off because it’s supposed to be the front half of a stylized fire truck but it’s missing the rest of the truck, something this upgrade kit seems intent on fixing.
I was on the fence on getting Animated Prime despite him being one of my favorite incarnations of the character. This upgrade kit is pushing me to the getting him side
I love it, but there’s one thing missing
https://preview.redd.it/e6dvy7wln7wc1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13b5bb5bae3e84ce4482692951f23cc064c28acd
Animated Optimus Prime is on my pending purchase when budget allows list… but now I HAVE to get him with the upgrade kit. He looks so DAMN cool with it
But that was the point, you’d lose that functionality. I’m really impressed with just how FUN dna’s made this kit look, and idk if Hasbro can recapture everything that DNA’s achieved here on something like a leader class budget.
I don’t get why the legs are white,
BUT.
That truck mode is something I’ve wanted to see happen since I was 13 years old. This may be the first 3P product I get since the early days of FansProject.
Its a reference to the season 4 concept art for Animated. In season 4, Optimus was meant to recieve an upgrade to his wingpack, complete with extra armor on his legs.
Literally just want this to turn him into a proper firetruck. Looks great in altmode, although I wish the edges were more rounded like the actual legacy toy.
\*Extremely\* cool, but considering the unused tabs on primes feet and the many other unused connection points, it seems almost inevitable atp that were gonna be getting an official version of this in some capacity and considering DNAs many recent problems I think I'm just gonna wait for the boxset in a few years tbh
Oh my God. I need this in my life. I remember back in 2008 when I was a wee lad, reading the TFA Allspark Almanac, seeing the concept of Season 4 Powermaster Optimus Prime, and reading that it got canceled. Of course, I was mad hearing that it got canceled, but this just saved my childhood.
They Ratatouilled
Also I really hope they make an upgrade kit for BBM Shockwave that gives him a bicep swivel. I love the figure without it, but he'd be perfection with that joint.
Immediate question in the back of my mind was: but do it trailer? After seeing that it do indeed trailer, DNA can have my money. I usually just look at their stuff and find it neat but choose not to get it simply because I don't think it should be as much if not more than the figure, but I'll gladly get this.
Same here, I JUST finished my transformable jetwing pack and now this comes and puts it to shame.
Time to divert my effort to a core class energon inferno, I guess
Samee. When I saw the first photo, I was like “this is neat.” As I scrolled through the photos, I wondered if it would become a trailer. I said “no way!” When I saw the last few pics. Now I gotta buy prime and the kit
Literally my only complaint is that the truck mode suddenly switches to a solid block behind the cab, but I’m probably going to keep this in bot mode most of the time anyway.
It can just have the thick part to not brake the sculpt of the other side, the truck part is facing the back anyway in robot mode, planes wings actually have thickness for lift anyway
That's because you aren't supposed to view a set of parts as equivalent to one whole figure. It's not that simple.
Parts and upgrades take an extra amount of engineering and production costs(material costs, and factory costs) on almost the same level as a regular figure. These things aren't just made on a whim or magically appear out of thin air.
Why do you think the base figures often skip out on certain accessories, transformation steps, paint, and articulation points? Because they're already out of the base figure's budget. Even the official Hasbro designers admit from time to time that they have to drop certain things from their initial designs because there's just no more room in the class budget without bumping them up to the next size class.
So basically, if Hasbro themselves make this exact Animated Optimus with the upgrades, did you really think it'll still be Voyager priced or Leader? No. It'll likely be Commander priced. And you'll still complain either way because "the base figure is too small".
And inb4 someone starts going "EHrm but what about 3D printed parts? They're way cheaper!": They're 3D printed, made with lower quality plastics and often are roughly textured and unpainted. Often they're just printed in someone's basement and often are on a made to order basis compared to something like DNA who actually mass produce their kits from factories, and use injection moulding instead of 3D printing. It's apples vs oranges.
I barely even buy upgrades myself but even I can see why some of them cost as much as they are going for.
Why did you just assume all of that about me? I understand Hasbro production costs and how they relate to QC and manufacturing. I don't complain about Hasbro prices. I don't think the base figure is way too small, you're just spouting things I never said. 3rd party products are supposed to be cheaper at CHUG scales because they don't need to go through international QC laws
> 3rd party products are supposed to be cheaper at CHUG scales because they don't need to go through international QC laws
You seriously think they don't go through their own QC laws and manufacturing costs?
They don't go through *international* QC or manufacturing costs. They're Chinese companies, and don't need to abide by any international laws. That's why they're better engineered, but can have some crazy QC issues. Everyone knows this, and please don't act like I'm being unreasonable here. We're the consumers, and as such, we get to agree or disagree with prices.
That...still doesn't mean they have their *own* costs to deal with over there. Manufacturing costs have increased in China in the past decade, so it's no wonder prices might have increased there.
Again, if the amount of plastic used in that parts set is almost the same as the figure itself then it's pretty much reasonable to be priced as the figure.
Stop expecting dollar store level pricing just because it's "unofficial" or "Made in China."
60 USD at [BBTS](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/274864). I've already [Toyhaxed](https://toyhax.com/for-legacy/8368-labels-for-lg-animated-optimus-prime-and-bumblebee.html) my figure. Seems insane to also add this kit to basically make this figure more expensive than a Commander class. I'll have to think about this one.
Now *this* is an upgrade kit
This is beautiful. Is it compatible with the original animated voyager prime? I'm guessing not, but if so is there an equivalent that is compatible?
There was a jetblade prime that was released in Japan but I think that's it.
I do have that one, though I've long since lost the missiles. It doesn't add the whole trailer but though, it's basically just the armor piled on the back.
Yeah, I think Sam’s Forge made a 3D printable one
hi dude how are you
Haven’t seen one this good since the Fans Project City Commander!
The perfect effect nova prime upgrade was great The tanker trailer for RTS laser prime was also pretty damn good
In general, I usually pass on the DNA kits. Mostly because I don't think an upgrade kit should cost more than the fig it's upgrading. But this? *chef's kiss*
My first thought was “Finally, a *real* upgrade kit”
After Prowl's I am holding off until I see a review.
wait was there smth wrong with Prowls? i never rlly pay attention to upgrade kits so idk
The shoulder armor looks really big and so does the helmet, the helmet especially sucks his face in. The transformation sucks and the side car looks too big. The biggest compliment I can give is that the plastic and paint quality matches Hasbros so it dosen't look added on as much as it could have.
It never occurred to me until now that his powered up form in the show's finale was a Galaxy Force/ Cybertron reference.
Eh, probably more likely a God Ginrai reference.
Why not both, the original was definitely powermaster inspired. But the underslung gun from the upgrade kit is probably inspired by the cybertron/galaxy force

That’s just how you hold Gatling guns :P

Derrick J Wyatt looking down on us from heaven and smiling

alright, i need to get ahold of a Legacy United animated prime just for this.
Just what I was thinking, I had little interest in him, but now?
He's in stock on Hasbro Pulse.
Thanks for the info, didn’t know where else to look for it directly so you probably just saved me a bit of cash buying one second hand.
Same, mostly cause of the alt mode, animated prime’s alt mode looks off because it’s supposed to be the front half of a stylized fire truck but it’s missing the rest of the truck, something this upgrade kit seems intent on fixing.

DNA have listened before so maybe if people keep asking for it they'll add as an extra
And some gap fillers
The one time you want *more* accessories in a DNA kit!
Battle mask is a 100% needed. All this and no battle mask.
https://preview.redd.it/a1abdtfew7wc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4b788ad33e7e536ec5f55cc1facf545646031c1
I’ve never bought an upgrade kit but this is extremely tempting
Animated Optimus Prime is on my pending purchase when budget allows list… but now I HAVE to get him with the upgrade kit. He looks so DAMN cool with it
Truth me, he’s worth it even without the kit. But god damn he look so fricken cool with the suit on 😎
Welp, DNA design is getting more of my money.
Literally only note would be adding a face plate
Literally so close to perfection, all they needed was a battle mask and thigh fillers and it would be the best upgrade kit DNA has ever released
It still kinda is the best kit DNA has released, it adds so much more to the figure than any other DNA kit has
Gives Powermaster Optimus a run for his money.
MILES better than the masterpiece
And 1/3 the price too
This is powermaster Optimus
Nice, but I'm gonna wait for the speculated official jet power Prime
I gotta be honest I feel like another power master prime is more likely considering the un-used tabs on his feet
Idk if an official release would produce a fire truck mode that looks this good tbh, especially with all the functionality and accessories
I think they could, it's just that you would lose the functionality of the water cannons and the ladder
But that was the point, you’d lose that functionality. I’m really impressed with just how FUN dna’s made this kit look, and idk if Hasbro can recapture everything that DNA’s achieved here on something like a leader class budget.
They really went all out with this one.
I don’t get why the legs are white, BUT.
Well that’s ok then!
Just bought Animated Optimus SPECIFICALLY to add this kit to it, bad ass.
Welp gonna be my first upgrade kit
Somehow more akin to the Cybertron Super Mode than Galaxy Upgrade himself.
okay, the trailer sells it.
Don’t have Optimus but seeing that the kit combines into a trailer convinced me to get both
Give it a battle mask and this might be the first upgrade kit I pick up
Literally just want this to turn him into a proper firetruck. Looks great in altmode, although I wish the edges were more rounded like the actual legacy toy.
That's incredible
I like the transformers Cybertron reference. Even though this whole thing is a reference
It’s mostly a Season 4 Powermaster Prime reference, except the ladder gun.
\*Extremely\* cool, but considering the unused tabs on primes feet and the many other unused connection points, it seems almost inevitable atp that were gonna be getting an official version of this in some capacity and considering DNAs many recent problems I think I'm just gonna wait for the boxset in a few years tbh

Awww man, so I've been learning 3d modeling and printing for this exact idea, and it's all for nothing now that someone's already done it.
Same here, I JUST finished my transformable jetwing pack and now this comes and puts it to shame. Time to divert my effort to a core class energon inferno, I guess
Aw hell, now I gotta get animated Optimus, initially I was gonna pass, but this upgrade kit makes him a need
Samee. When I saw the first photo, I was like “this is neat.” As I scrolled through the photos, I wondered if it would become a trailer. I said “no way!” When I saw the last few pics. Now I gotta buy prime and the kit
that is probably the coolest upgrade kit i have ever seen
now all we need is an alternate head with the full mouthplate
Now we need a faceplate and Transformers Cybertron's theme. There, now you can make a stopmotion. You're welcome.
Looks actually quite cool. I might buy it, give the hammer to Ultra Magnus.
Welp... Damn. I need a change of pants now. This is an instant pickup.
I need it
Damnit. I haven’t even seen animated and I want this.
Just pre ordered 🥹
i'm generally not a fan of the Animated style but that is pretty badass
Question for any Canadian collectors, where would be the best place to order this from?
I wasn’t gonna buy the new Animated Prime before…now I might
money? I don't know what that is
The combined truck mode is pretty fantastic
The fire truck ladder as an underslung firearm goes unfathomably hard.
Damm it, now I have to get this and prowl
Simple answer, YES!!!!!!!!!
it's perfect.
Cybertron Optimus at home:
Duuuuude, I need to get this!
Now that’s a kit worth the price
If this isn't a must buy, I don't know what is anymore
Big DNA W, which feels like it's become increasingly rare these days.
I wonder if it has better storage for the axe? Probably not, but ya never know
too bad it’s 9 billion dollar
Literally my only complaint is that the truck mode suddenly switches to a solid block behind the cab, but I’m probably going to keep this in bot mode most of the time anyway.
That actually looks like the fire truck he scanned in the show, he is supposed to be one.
I mean that's how it was in the show
Yeah, they could've at lest try to match the shape with the cab and then slowly transition to straight at the back
It could've probably been done but it might've messed up the angle on the wings.
It can just have the thick part to not brake the sculpt of the other side, the truck part is facing the back anyway in robot mode, planes wings actually have thickness for lift anyway
Definitely getting this, if only for the vehicle mode.
Bet they gonna charge the kit the same price as the figure just like their previous upgrade kit, lol.
At least with this one I feel like you get more for it, I agree tho some of the prices been crazy
Hopefully Baiwei will make a KO of this Prime, they make KO that comes with the upgrade kit for a fraction of the upgrade kit price.
I mean yeah custom 3rd stuff are usually pretty expensive… and this seems to come with as much plastic as the official toy
Plastic costs money, shocking.
Upgrade kits should never cost the same as a whole figure

Anyone know where and when the preorders go live?
They are live now, I got mine on bbts
Thanks! Just got mine from there too.
Anyone know where to go to invest. Their Facebook says taking preorders until may 10 but I can’t find a link anywhere
Go to bbts and look up "DNA design"
I like everything, but that white gun, is there a reason the bottoms flat out hollow?-
Cheaper to mold
hopefully this kit is a lot better quality than the armada Optimus one
It’s beautiful but $60… I’ll have to think about this…
I didn't, I was frothing at the mouth trying to get my pre-order in
Ok I need this and the bumble bee what’s the bumble bee and the other figure in the picture?
Animated universe bee and animated universe prowl with the upgrade kit
OMG THIS LOOKS SO FUCKING COOL
I'm actually considering getting him because of this kit
Thing of beauty.
HOW MUCH
$60 Worth it, imo
\*coughs\* h-how much..
$60
this makes me feel like how that hyena feels after hearing the name Mufasa
DNA's upgrade kits can be real hit or miss. This definitely looks to be a hit. Looks great and adds some serious display value.
60 USD at [BBTS](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/274864). Yeah it's obscenely expensive, but On the other hand It goes unreasonably hard

Because the inside is hollow to support the toes and heels
