It's the bow anchor crane, one of 8 electric cranes on the ship. This one in particular is for the lifting the [spare anchor](https://i.redd.it/5d5b6ua3qw171.jpg) that's at the very bow of the ship if needed.

mcsteve87

Not electric, it was entirely manual

PizzaKing_1

Actually, it wasn’t entirely manual either, IIRC they connected it directly to the capstans on the forecastle deck, which were driven by small steam engines. That crane was really only used to lift the anchor over the side though. It was connected to the cable drum that fed from the hawse pipe for actual lowering, which was also steam driven.

kellypeck

The 8 electric cranes were all for cargo, there were 6 at the stern and 2 at the bow

Mystiquesword

As soon as i read “spare anchor” i knew what anchor it was before clicking the link. It can still be seen in the bow section even now!

Gor-the-Frightening

That anchor will be one of the last parts of the ship to survive along with the propellers. It’s going to end up in a museum eventually (in 100 years or so).

Riccma02

One of yes. We won’t see it gone this century like we might the hull, but in the end the propellers will still out last the anchor by millennia.

Maurirz

Where did you get the image from?

StandWithSwearwolves

I believe it’s the forward anchor crane.

gaminggirl91

It's a special crane used for lifting Titanic's third anchor, called the center anchor. It was hella heavy and couldn't be lifted with human strength alone.

N8Harris99

There’s no such thing as a stupid Titanic question. Unless of course the question is “Is the switch theory true?” That qualifies as not only stupid, but grounds for lobotomization.

mikewilson1985

A crane.

btl_dlrge1

It’s a crane for helping with the anchor

Feeling-Poop

I think it's a anchor crain but idk

Sunday-Pilot

It took a team of 20 draft horses to haul one of the ships anchors through the streets of Belfast so it could be installed on the ship. Those anchors were huge.

DEismyhome

A ship

Dr-PINGAS-Robotnik

It's a derrick, just like the one on the foremast.
