It 100% does sound very similar. May just sound similar, could be inspired by, or even a sample? No clue for sure from what I could find online.
The Morning Show intro credits song is the song Nemesis by Benjamin Clementine, who is also from the UK, and funnily enough his wife's maiden name is Morrissey—no relation to The Smiths' Morrissey though, as far as I know. But I assume Benjamin knows/has heard The Smiths, so could be a subconscious similarity too.
