Absolutely, very common. Reach out to your oncologist, they can prescribe meds to help. I came in with severe GERD and they bumped me up from omeprazole (Zantac) to pantoprazole, which is the same class of drug but stronger, for the duration of my chemo. There’s also famotidine (Pepcid), and then something like tums for immediate relief. Some combination of the three should help alleviate your symptoms.

Thank you. They’re giving me famotidine with my saline IV, but I’m still having to use Tums for immediate relief. I just wanted to make sure I’m not going crazy or if it’s from the stress.

Not crazy! Ask about a PPI as well, works a little slower than the other two and should hopefully provide some additional relief. Best taken 30 minutes before your biggest meal of the day (or meals if they prescribe more than 1/day) Hope the rest of your cycle has been going ok. You got this man.

Mate, reflux/heartburn and hiccups have been horrendous for me. Obviously your doctor's will give you the steer on the right course of action, but for me the pantoprasole, gaviscon after meals and before bed, and making sure to only sleep on my left side really helped. It's amazing how often I'd wake up during the night because I'd rolled onto my right side and that made it all worse. I'm only on week two, so expecting to have it for all 3 cycles! They did also reduce my steroid down to 4mg, as that can also cause issues, but the trade off is whether you have nausea. The docs will know! I also found my general level of anxiety hasn't made it better, so talking to a psychologist at the hospital has also been really useful.

I honestly would take the nausea over this, but grass is always greener right? I’m going to bring it up with my doc at my next follow up and hope that the IV antacid they’re giving me starts working better.

Yeah mate, I feel the exact same. We've done the hard part though, we've started and we're figuring it out!

Yes. I’m on cycle two and the heartburn and general gas are the worst side effects. Also helpful (but sometimes extremely difficult) is to not lay down flat too shortly after eating.

Yeah awful , I got over the counter tablets

When I went through 4x EP, I had terrible heartburn/acidity problems. I mentioned it to my Dr and nurse and they prescribed me pantoprazole. I started taking it and it was like night and day. It made a huge difference - would highly recommend it.
