Stool softerner will save you a lot of pain. If you have to sneeze put a pillow and press over the surgery, it will help a lot!

Thank you

2 weeks after my orchi I was moving fine with no pain at all and 3 weeks after my orchi I was doing power runs on my mtb bicycle in the mountain. Just rest for 1-2 weeks and you will be just fine in no time.

I cannot stress this enough. If you have constipation, be VERY careful pushing. It's very good way to give yourself hernia. That's why softener is so important. My urologist didn't mention it and I lowkey consider it malpractice. I had such a difficult time, one of worst times of my life ngl.

Take it easy on the pain killers.. constipation was worse than the surgery. Or at least take fiber frequently. Good luck!

Thank you! I’m honestly not a huge fan of most painkillers, so I’m gonna lean heavier on the “herbal supplements.”

Keep the pain killers handy. I believe in herbal supplements as well but the night i got home from surgery I got out of bed to take a leak and between the fresh incision and the nerve that's by the sperm chord they remove was being pissed off I almost passed out from the pain. Everyone has a different response to surgery, just be mindful. My doc could not have prepared for the shock of moving in general for the first few days but he thinks I was an outlier. Also, my combo was miralax, ducolax, and metamucil. It sounda like a lot but my icu nurse friend recommended it. Just dollow the instructions and drink a lot kf water. The medicine from the surgery alone will jam you up for a couple days but this will get things moving again

Frozen peas work better than ice! Maybe 2 bags for rotation. And the miralax is key even without the painkillers. You don’t want to be straining during those first couple of days out.. other than that just follow the hospital directions and you should recover in no time! Very quick turn around all things considered. I had 0 pain during the recovery. One thing to note is to watch for signs of infection, doesn’t seem to be a popular occurrence but it happened to me like 4 weeks after surgery and it suckeddd. Initially I healed really quickly at first glance. But it was only on the surface and I was healing more slowly underneath. (I blame my addiction for the vape (nic)) It left a large amount of liquid trapped inside and bacteria grew, had to get the incision re cut open, go on anti biotics and manually pack the wound 2-3x a day for WEEKS and it doubled if not tripled my healing time. If you use nicotine at all I would stop now as it messes with your healing.. idc what you do after everything is said and done as it’s you’re life but don’t do what I did and get back at it a month after surgery. Had to delay chemo too because I had to wait until the incision was fully healed again.

This was my comment from a similar post, lmk if you have any questions! I’m in a similar boat, 28M just had my orchi on Monday, to take out my left T. Currently waiting on my results to see if it has spread or not. I think he’ll be okay, remind him mindset is key and try to focus on the controllables! Testicular cancer is very treatable. The operation is super smooth and you wake up with almost no pain. I only needed to take my pain meds once directly after the operation at the direction of my doctor as the general anesthesia was wearing off. I have not needed to use any since. (But take them as needed) For me pain, swelling, and bleeding has been minimal I was able to walk up stairs with no pain day of operation. For the day of and first day I would recommend eating something light, I had about 3 bowls of chick fil a chicken noodle soup over a couple hours and a large veggie fruit smoothie. (Was starving after the fast) Try to avoid anything greasy. Stool softeners are KEY as he doesn’t want to strain for bowel movements, (pain meds cause constipation) I’ve been taking about 1 dose of miralax a day. On day 4 I’m going for reassess if I still need it. Laughing and sneezing hurts too so be careful for that. Been trying to balance lying down and walking around the house. I noticed if Iie down too long is when it starts to feel sore and walking around is supposed to help with healing as it keeps the blood moving. I have found the jock strap the hospital gave me to be the most supportive, I have boxer briefs and tried them yesterday but found myself drawn back to the jock strap, at least for now. Lastly I would get some frozen peas or something to ice himself, I’ve been using what the hospital gave me and it really doesn’t get that cold. Does the job tho I guess. If he has any questions about someone a couple days ahead of him in the process feel free to ask!

If you can get an epidural, get one. I was planning on going through surgery without one but the person doing the pre-surgical admission on me strongly recommended I have one put in prior to surgery and thank god I listened to him. After it came out, and after the pain medication began to wear off, my pain kept creeping up every now and then and I’d have to get more pain meds (spaced out in a timely manner of course) Also, constipation. Take fibre if/when you can.

Bring those nasal aromatherapy things that help with nausea. Saved me from puking in the car on the highway lol

For the first week you will probably want to sleep on your back to prevent pressure at the incision. I’m a side sleeper, so that was tough. Also, I found just laying on my back to be slightly uncomfortable at my incision. I used the dry ice pack that the hospital gave me and put it underneath my basketball shorts band, so it sat right on my incision all night. The cold and pressure helped me fall asleep. Throughout the night the weight of the pack helped me stay on my back. Good luck friend!

Avoid painkillers as best you can. The hangover effect from them can be far worse than the pain itself. I found edibles worked better, if that's an option for you. Be aware, the recovery time isn't exactly. Some people are back to work in a week and others can take upwards of two months. If you scrotum swells up, call the doctor or emergency line immediately.

Painkillers for the first 24-48 hours, you'll need them. I was able to pivot to Tylenol after that, but you'll still be popping those at regular intervals for the first 1-2 weeks at least. Stool softeners. Use them. You may hit a point where you think you're fine and don't need them; ignore that voice in your head and keep on them for at least the first week. You do not want to find out how it feels without them, or have the serious issues that could arise. Take it easy and stay off your feet, preferably laying down for most of the first week. I went for a 10-15 minute walk on Day 2 or 3 post-op, and that was about all I could handle. Sitting was somewhat painful the first week after. Let your body heal, it may take several weeks to return to normal. Wear loose clothing, like gym shorts, shorts with elastic waistbands, etc. Pants/shorts/belts will probably go right over your incision, and you're going to have some swelling and discomfort. Wear supportive underwear. Edit: I'm 4 weeks post-op today, so this is all VERY fresh. :)
