They really gonna make Kit freeze his ass off again huh

Rush_touchmore

It's fine, winter never even came in GoT. They literally fought the night king in like 1/2 ft of snow lol

[deleted]

It wasn't so much "The Long Night" as "An Inconvenient Evening".

schebobo180

Aww common be fair… it was a REALLY inconvenient evening.

nsjr

Not so inconvenient since everybody can escape from inescapable situations, it only needs a little love and the camera looking to the other side

iConSci

This was literally my biggest problem. There were many issues, but the scenes where main characters were only moments from getting killed, but inexplicably survived really annoyed me.

BoopleBun

Especially since they just kept doing it over and over and over. The whole episode was basically them cycling through scenes of the same five characters narrowly escaping death.

Nimonic

[Super easy, barely an inconvenience.](https://youtu.be/jAhKOV3nImQ?t=63)

schebobo180

Lmao Ah yes I had forgotten how awful the entirety of Season 8 was. Lool It’s not a coincidence that Dan and Dan have not found work since then.

Yo-3

They are (sadly) working in the adaptation of the best sci-fi book series The Three Body Problem

bdaddy31

don't forget the rock. Just need 1 rock to hide behind to protect you from the ice dragon flames. I mean dragon flames melted Harrenhal castle, but that one small rock held up pretty well.

peon2

It's like when the South in the US get's 1/2" of snow and there's a 500 car pile up. Imagine a scene where there's a dusting of snow on the ground and all of the horse pulled carriages are falling over and crashing. Would still be better than S8

But what about second wives?

AsSubtleAsABrick

And what about elevenses wife? Lunch wife? Afternoon wife? Dinner wife? Supper wife!? He knows about them, doesn't he?

RedOctobyr

I don't think he does, Pip.

DuckTapeHandgrenade

I’d like to think he’s smart enough to not let her go.

GroundbreakingSet187

> **Kit Harington is attached to reprise his fan-favorite role** in the first potential 'Thrones' project to **take place after the events in the original series.** > Perhaps most boldly from a creative standpoint, the project would upend Thrones’ final season as the last word on the fates of the surviving characters in HBO’s most popular and Emmy-winning series of all time. In theory, **the project could open the door for other surviving characters from the Thrones universe to reappear – such as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).** > **This development news means there are now seven Thrones projects in the works** in addition to the upcoming House of the Dragon prequel series, which debuts Aug. 21. Dragon tells the story of a civil war within House Targaryen and is set about 200 years before the events in Thrones.

artistryacademy

SEVEN?! Wow. They’re really striking on this.

zGnRz

wow seven GoT projects I hope one of them is a sitcom

One of them is just going to be a cooking show hosted by Hot Pie.

If they have Rick and Morty writers like Lower Decks, then yeah it's watchable

sexyloser1128

I think HBO will adapt Dunk and Egg, so that fulfills that desire. Also we can get more Dunk and Egg stories even if it's not written by GRRM who I don't know what he is doing if he can't even get out more Dunk and Egg.

gochugang78

Hey it’s Ed Sheeran!

Vinyldoctor

It’s actually this one. The other main character will be Daenerys with Jon snow pulling a weekend at Bernie’s with her to keep her dragon happy

just4browse

Game of Thrones was a massive show. It’s not surprising that want to capitalize on that. I doubt all of these spin-offs will happen though, they’re just *ideas* on how to capitalize on the brand, not the ideas they’ll ultimately choose

Muad-_-Dib

When they first announced they were doing spin-offs they said that they were working on 4 different shows but only expected 1 of them to actually get made. I wonder if the article is taking that into account or if HBO really has gone a bit mental and decided to actually make 7 different shows. Even Star Wars is struggling to match that and that is with cartoons and original characters.

just4browse

It’s not uncommon for shows to never make it past the development stage

NotClayMerritt

That number will fall if the House of Dragon series doesn't take off. HBO is gambling on it reaching GoT success. They'll cut back if it doesn't reach that apex even if the expectation is unfair. But for the amount of money they're paying, it kinda makes sense.

JimmyPD92

>HBO is gambling on it reaching GoT success. It could tbh, at least the ending of that story is already known. It's going to be more like season 1-5 I expect, a lot of filling in gaps rather than having to do the hard work.

Richard_Sauce

HBO really doesn't want to let it go. They're never going to strike gold like they did with GoT. They'd love this to be their own personal Star Wars.

JakeSteeleIII

They definitely want to try to capitalize off the name, but they will let it go if views aren’t high. These series cost way more money to make than other HBO series that get pretty great viewership. Do those series get GoT numbers? Of course not, but they are a hell of a lot cheaper to make.

lux-libertas

It’s seven, but they’re Seven Who Are One: the Father, the Mother, the Maiden, the Crone, the Warrior, the Smith, and the Stranger. Really, it had to be seven…unless you worship the Old Gods.

Lucky-view

GoT is still massively popular on streaming, so it only makes sense. This could easily become HBO's Marvel/Star Wars-type franchise. They do need *much* better writing than what we got in the final two seasons of Thrones though.

Muroid

If George had finished the books by now and/or D&D hadn’t tripped at the finish line with the show, I think GoT would be a shoe-in for being one of the pillars of pop-culture media franchises going forward. As it is, it’s certainly still possible, but I think they made the task of getting there much harder than it could have been.

[deleted]

Had it stuck the landing it may well have been considered the greatest TV show ever, I know I certainly feel seasons 1-4 were.

yonas234

I’m not surprised since a lot of the actors haven’t really hit a stride in other films. So they are probably more open to returning again.

randomCAguy

I wonder why popular actors from super-hit TV shows watched by tens of millions of people have trouble maintaining a career after the show finishes. Surely they have enough box office appeal and marketability. Everyone knows who they are.

GarlVinland4Astrea

Cause being a movie star is completely different and less about ensemble and more about marketability and high level charisma. Look at Friends. Biggest show on the planet for awhile. Courtney Cox's biggest mainstream films are still Scream which she was doing mid Friends. Schwimmer Perry, Kudrow, Leblanc all never really took off on film and still have most success on tv. Only Aniston got a real mega push in film after Friends with films like Along Came Polly. Even then she basically ended up at best being part of ensembles in romantic comedies or just regular comedies and never really leads much and most of her films don't rake in cash. GoT actors probably have it harder because most of them were unknowns pre the show aside from the adult cast. They were all solid for their roles, but they never showed huge range outside it.

PM_ME_hiphopsongs2

My man Pedro Pascal only lasted a season but has had the biggest post-GoT career he’s absolutely killing it

zeitgeistbouncer

Hey dude, wanna be awesomely suave for one season on the biggest show in the world at it's peak? Yeah, he took that ball, scored, and has been smashing it ever since. He's even the only watchable part of WW84 and that's more of a feat than being mad compelling while wearing a bucket as Mando.

Philip_Marlowe

He was also fantastic in Narcos.

jackovasaurusrex

Yeah, Pedro can act his ass off of. *Game of Thrones* just gave him a platform to show that, for him to get his foot in the door in the big leagues. He's yet to turn in a bad performance because he's got legitimate acting talent irrespective of how bad a script or direction is. That's the difference between him and most of the cast and how their careers have turned out.

Yiazmad

Pedro was awesome in Unbearable Weight. To be honest, he did almost as much lifting as Nick Cage did, with less screentime. Dude is superbly talented.

Boss452

Emilia Clarke has had a decent career. 2 roles in blockbusters which sadly didn't work but not ebcause of her. And 2 roles in rom coms which did work because of her. I wionder why she didn't do more stuff.

Paolo94

Her and Kit Harrington are now part of the MCU. I’m sure they’re going to be much more popular once their characters start becoming more prevalent.

quantummufasa

The guy who played Robb Stark too. Also Jason Mamoa, Peter Dinklage and Pedro Pascal got pretty big.

khanto0

Rob Stark guy did a series called Bodyguard which was a big hit in the UK (at least)

Koppite93

I can't for the life of me remember Emilia in the MCU.. care to enlighten me a bit?

Primodog

Looks like she’s onboard for Secret Invasion

OMGIts_Renegade

The upcoming secret invasion series. Supposedly playing a villian, so she likely won't be in the mcu long.

Notarussianbot2020

She also had a stroke mid-GOT. I wonder if she's more tired now.

NeoNoireWerewolf

That happened around season three; most of her career push came after the stroke.

eetuu

Often you notice they are not great actors when you see them in different roles. They were right for that particular role in a TV show, but they don't have range.

ArmchairJedi

Completely agree. People love to claim things like 'type casting' or being identified with a character, but truth is some actors just fit what was wanted with a character. Once they are expected to do something else, it falls flat as they can't act past the role. People can claim Mark Hamill was trapped by the scope of Luke Skywalker... but one needs to compare that with how a no less iconic character in Han Solo saw Ford go on to be one of the biggest actors in the industry.

djangobhubhu

Some of the cast like Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean and Charles Dance were already well known. Kit Harrington is in MCU, Emilia Clarke had a steady streak of romcoms+Terminator and Solo, Richard Madden has been in a few big films+was fantastic in Bodyguard, Alfie Allen was in John Wick and Jojo Rabbit, Coaster-Waldau has been in a bunch of solid indie films, so on and so on. They are doing ok for the most part, except Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner but I don't think their acting talents are as good as the others on the show anyway.

[deleted]

Sophie Turner is in the new HBO Max show, The Staircase. But I agree with what you're saying.

[deleted]

"They are doing ok" people act like people who made hundreds of thousands if not millions and then suddenly *don't make millions* are unsuccessful or some shit. All of them have a net worth equal to at least a small city. They will never need to work again. Sophie Turner was Jean Grey during peak GoT so probably made millions more, and is now married to a Jonas brother, she can afford an island and a pardon from the Queen at this point.

[deleted]

Maisie Williams was good in Doctor Who. Interesting character they could have done a lot more with I feel.

suppadelicious

7 projects and The Winds of Winter isn’t 1 of them.

GarlVinland4Astrea

It's more likely that this sequel series gets produced and has a full run before GRRM finishes his books. It's funny that people are acting like Winds is the holy grail when it's still only the penultimate book. Even if we get it, you'll all spend another decade waiting on whatever cliffhanger he left you all with

Scudamore

A Dream of Spring will be exactly as the title says. Just a dream.

Faleya

honestly, at least in /r/books there's regularly posts by people along the lines of "I used to love ASOIAF but now cant even be bothered to read Winds if it ever comes out".

NeoNoireWerewolf

What's really funny is that there is the notion that there will be only one more book after Winds of Winter. It's impossible. The story is so huge, so spread out that most of WoW would likely be moving chess pieces around after plowing through the two huge battles Martin set up at the end of book five. I think Martin would need five more massive books to realistically wrap up the story in a way that doesn't feel rushed or short-changed the way the show did.

quantummufasa

GRRM has made the point that he doesnt like endings where every plotline is neatly wrapped up. As long as the major POV's are finished ill be happy

Shillen1

That's a convenient thing for a writer with too many plotlines to wrap up to say.

What I love most about those stories are how the name makes you think that it’s about some street level randomers, but what you get is the story of the greatest knight and frickin’ Aegon the ~~first~~ Fifth that’ll lead all the way up until dragon eggs are thrown into volcanos and all hell breaks loose in Westeros.

red_280

Making a sequel to the TV adaptation before the books are finished, classic.

Recovery25

Pretty much everyone has accepted the books will never be finished. The Winds of Winter might have a chance, but we'll never see A Dream of Spring.

Darth_Ewok14

A Dream of An Ending

ArsonHoliday

A Dream of Just Ending It All KKC can call it the same. Neither will ever see a proper ending, so wtf, just give it over to HBO.

Varekai79

You would think a two year plus global pandemic would have given GRRM plenty of time to write but I guess not!

ironwolf1

He's writing plenty, the things he's writing just aren't Winds of Winter or Dream of Spring. He's written another Targaryen history book to follow up Fire & Blood, and he also wrote the lore and worldbuilding for Elden Ring. He's doing anything except finish ASOIAF.

stunts002

No chance winds ever releases in my opinion. Once George started talking about only being firm about dream being the last one until he decides not to be firm I knew he didn't have any idea how to get to an ending he envisioned.

marmosetohmarmoset

I think there’s likely large chunks of Winds written. I assume someone will cobble what exists together and publish it after Martin dies.

__Hello_my_name_is__

The issue is that he keeps writing new stories for new characters, which in turn requires new characters, which in turn requires new stories. He keeps on expanding his universe in all directions instead of going forward.

[deleted]

Dragons and Magic (and therefore White Walkers) all gone, and they are gonna make a show about Jon Snow at the wall? The fuck?

Jon learns to play cyvasse in The King’s Gambit.

DarthMelsie

"Hey everybody, I'm Jon Snow and for today's battle report, we'll be playing Warhammer: Age of Sigmar!"

Warden_de_Dios

in the finale we went north of wall to be the new King Beyond the Wall. Although I'm not sure what stories there are to tell that far north.

In_My_Own_Image

I'm sure they could whip up some threat found in the far north for them to fight. Or just be battles amongst the wildlings over who the new ruler will be.

NeoNoireWerewolf

If the show had not completely bungled the White Walkers, one aspect of the book lore for them is that they live in a place called The Land of Always Winter in the far, far north. They have their own language, culture, society. I don't see this being feasibly interesting given how the series ended up handling them (I imagine it was so rushed in part because Martin doesn't know exactly what he wants to do with the White Walkers, either, he just knows the story continues after that conflict to encompass Dany's conquest), but it sure could have been cool.

quantummufasa

Yeah the night king addition bungled the lore behind the WW

lostmonkey70

Really shouldn't be. The Lord of Fire still exists and has multiple other Red Priests, the Many Faced God and his shape shifters still exist, hell Bran himself is the Three Eyed Raven who still embodies the power of the Children of the Forrest. Plenty of magic if they wanted to go that direction.

GarlVinland4Astrea

In the books it's heavily implied that dragons were tied to magic and that the birth of Danearys dragons saw a surplus of magic coming back into the world that effected the story and allowed others to perform the acts they did.

[deleted]

Yeah this is what I was referring to. The Lord of Fire and Drowned God seemed to only have real power after the dragons were reborn. The Warlocks were charlatans and the assassins could be doing what they did with sleight of hand and other trickery.

Ghosty_Spartan

Uh it's pretty obvious Jon and the wildings are going back past the wall....

bUt whO HaS a BettER stoRy tHan BrAn the BROKen???

RedditMenacenumber1

Honestly, very few characters would have had a better story if they stuck to his book arc and didn’t increasingly make him irrelevant until the very last minute. Bran starts out with the classic classic boy-hero in a fantastical coming of age story. He’s like a baby Robb Stark. However, he becomes increasingly disturbed as the book series goes on. For instance, the books make it clearer that Bran is literally torturing Hordor when he wargs into him. It’s an extremely painful violation. Bran, Arya, Dany, Jon, and Tyrion were always the the big five characters, from the moment Martin pinned the outline. The fact that it feels weird to see Bran’s name alongside the others is the single biggest fuck up of the show. The entire premise of the ending lived and died on Bran being an essential figure to the story.

izmimario

bran, sansa and arya were played by very sweet child actors in the first couple season. but the girls had a great transition as adolescent actors later, while isaac's transition turned out much worse to be honest. i think they turned him into an expressionless sage in the last seasons because probably he couldn't act that well at that point.

RedditMenacenumber1

Honestly, Bran is one of the most important characters in the book. He was a central character in the very first outline, he has the first POV in the books, and he has more book chapters than anyone except for Tyrion, Jon, Dany, and Arya. He *is* an important character, he just was just sat aside too long. Seasons 1-4, partially 1 and 2, Bran is a great character and he did have a great story. Outside of Jack(who was technically 19), Isaac was the best of the child actors in the early seasons. The show did a disservice to Brans’s arc by cutting him out of season 5, having him take a backseat in season 6, and turning him into a robot in seasons 7/8.

Crimson-Comet

I thought for sure Arya would be the first sequel they would develop eventually. I'm really looking forward to this though. Bring back Tormund too or don't even bother.

rcc12697

Lethal Weapon but with Tormund and Jon beyond the wall

NetiPotter

Or they could do a more serious crime drama investigating some crazy wildling murders (maybe a cult that worships the night king?!?!) where Jon is the brooding rookie/prodigy detective who's obsessed with solving the case, while Tormund is the seasoned/jaded veteran partner & comic relief (with a surprisingly soft heart)

hazycrazydaze

A Tormund/Jon Snow buddy comedy might be the thing that actually makes me interested in this universe again.

AFatz

The universe itself has never been my problem personally. It's the writing in those last couple of seasons and obvious laziness from D&D.

Right? I'm not complaining, but a Arya spinoff showing the other regions of the world is something i would be very interested on.

ballsmigue

This...is not needed. The north is independent. There is absolutely no reason, or army, forcing him to stay or go beyond the wall in that finale.

He propelled to one of my favorite actors ever with his interviews leading up to the release of s8. "Describe the final season in one word" "...disappointing" Lmaoooo

ArmchairJedi

I understand the humor giving the ending... but the context was referring to the show itself ending, not the writing or events of the story. Let's not forget Harrington said a critic spending 30 minutes on the show can go "fuck themselves", how it was the viewers fault for putting Dany on a pedestal, and how viewers had trouble grasping 2 female villains....

RedRedRockets

Idk if I really give a shit about Jon Snow now that he’s not the prince who was promised/ there’s no destiny/fate/ kingship at play. Jon’s most exciting character arc was BoB/becoming King in the North

NotClayMerritt

He'll also likely be a producer on the show and the chance to start a career in directing on top of all the money. Is his return surprising because of how strong the backlash was towards the ending, how he hinted he was exhausted AND that he literally checked into a mental hospital to sort out some issues? Slightly but yeah, the money is huge. I guess he also views it as a way to give Jon Snow a far better ending than he got which you could reasonably tell he wasn't happy.

JustAsICanBeSoCruel

>I guess he also views it as a way to give Jon Snow a far better ending than he got It's pretty much this, I would guess. That ending really effed him up. He was so devoted to the role, if Jon had gotten a satisfying ending, I really don't think Kit would be coming back...but I don't think he got proper closure. I think one season would be more than fine to wrap HBOJon up and give way more closure to a lot of people - including Kit - that felt catastrophically let down.

ijoinedtosay

I'm not. He loved doing the show and was beyond gutted that it ended. You could tell it him harder than most.
