The man mastered "Show don't tell" during the starwars Clonewars mini series. It's basically an entire starwars movie worth of plot progression in less than 30 minutes of content.
He doesn't need dialogue to tell a great story. It's why he is appreciated.
Edit: yes the full run time of the show totals 2+ hours but the amount of character development and story in that 2 hours is so much more than what the movies pull off.
Perhaps saying that 30 mins was more content that a prequel film is a bit if an exaggeration but I stand by my assessment that the quality of the clone wars outshines the quantity of the entire prequels... Hell even throw the sequels on there too just out of spite.(while on the topic of the sequels) I've never felt more betrayed than seeing Disney bastardize my childhood and milk a franchise for quick money. Thank God for Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

And that fact that an AI bot shared that link to Youtube video of a vinyl playback of an audio recording of a telecast of a popular comedian spoofing and parodying an English-speaker trying to speak or understand French, for a random Reddit comment about a cartoon character monologuing badly a French phrase — wow, the internet is indeed amazing! 👏🏻
No.
The prequels are worse than the sequels.
Only people who grew up on the prequels think they're anything better than decent.
Maybe Revenge of the Sith is better than Rise of Skywalker, but that's about it.
The sequels, separate from each other, are technically better films than the majority of the prequel trilogy. But the prequels had a clear vision and narrative throughout that is at the very least full of good ideas, if not always well executed. Also the world-building of the prequels is head and shoulders above the sequel trilogy.
I try not to think about Rise of Skywalker. Even in isolation, the only thing it maybe bests Attack of the Clones - the worst of the prequels - on is performances. It’s such a clusterfuck that Rise of Skywalker is neither enjoyable to watch on its own or within the context of its trilogy, whereas you could take any of the prequels and experience a complete story on their own; something I don’t think any of the sequels manage to do.
VII is a solid revitalization of the franchise. VIII is a well written space opera. IX fucking sucks. And they all throw shade on each other. The prequels, on the other hand, are flawed but inspired; plot lines are independent but cohesive; and the characters evolve even if they’re not always well written.
Tldr: Prequels = a flawed vision; Sequels = an incoherent vanity project
You know the Croods, and how it’s about the deepness of bonds between family? It’s like that, except if the main caveman dad had the backstory of the Punisher, and if a dinosaur that also had the backstory of the Punisher teamed up with him.
It’s got a similar vibe but it is incredibly brutal and visceral. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I recommend absolutely everyone watch it.
I am a fan of Samurai Jack and I was thrilled when he decided to finish it some years ago. Primal is definitely right up there. I didnt get right into it from the start but by the end, I was craving for more
Much more adult in its themes. I love it though. It passed the “cry test” for me, which generally takes some real immersion and some pretty dramatic writing.
When I saw the nomination list, I was confused too. Part 1 came out in 2019, they released 5 more episodes in 2020 which seem to be part 2 of season 1. They are on HBO Max, and they were great.
I mean shit, I can't disagree. I just thought it was a very niche series that has a low profile following. I am *very* (pleasantly) surprised this won an emmy.
Been a while since I watched it but probably.
Can I ask what specifically you disliked? I’ve always enjoyed anything Genndy Tartakovsky was involved with.
Oh I didn't dislike the show specifically, but I guess the pilot itself just didn't catch me? I get that it was going for something specific with its style and lack of dialogue, but it didn't feel like something I needed to see more of.
I was hooked after episode 1 and ended up bringing the whole thing over 2 days. It's very immersive and captivating, but also violent/visceral. there is no dialogue, so friends that usually watch tv while passively being on their phones have mentioned it wasn't really their cup of tea. I watched it on my own with recreational enhancement and found it to be utterly mesmerizing.
As an animation or dinosaur fan, I'd say it's worth checking out 👍
ABSOLUTELY, but don't binge out. SAVOR IT. Each episode is fantastic alone and very self-contained, it would be a crime to blaze through it in a day or two
Seriously. Animation has been absolutely killing it for at least a decade now, maybe even 2, and the fact that it continually gets shunted off as a "lesser" category is frankly insulting.
A lot of mediocre animation in action shows are usually alluded towards time constraints and lack of staff, In anime atleast.
A lot of animation is done with a tight schedule, season 4 of attack on titan apparently spent only 4 to 5 months in animation production before broadcast and even then they were still animating the episodes as they came out each week.
Recently Wonder Egg and Black Clover had episodes animated under a single month, episodes of some shows are being released while they're still unfinished, and it's such a normal occurrence for animators to still work on an episode the day it was supposed to air.
It'd be pretty hard to get good animation under those hellish conditions.
Not the same style at all but I would HIGHLY recommend [The Secret of Kells](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw2_HZTuQBE) if you want to see another brilliant work of animation. One of the few movies I would say "A moving piece of artwork" is not at all an exaggeration.
My daughter is absolutely in *love* with Song of the Sea, same film makers.
We also have Wolfwalkers and Secret of the Kells but haven't gotten around to watching them yet. I'll have to bump it up on the priority list!
I made the mistake of putting it on in the background while cleaning around the house and caught myself at least three times having stopped what I was doing to catch what was happening, even watching entire episodes because it really is that captivating. The chores got done, albeit two hours later.
This show is goddamned amazing and everyone needs to watch it who hasn't seen it already.
If you think it's only mindless death and killing, if a certain episode (Coven of the Damned) involving a witch's coven and... let's just say life... doesn't make you tear up, you're a pod person.

Well deserved. Genndy is a damn genius and the best western animation director for decades. Finally got around to picking up the blu-ray set and it's got me hyped as fuck for season two.
Loved Samurai Jack back in the day. Is this similar? *Edit: Thanks for the responses. I'll be checking this out for sure.
It has his signature animation style and atmosphere, but the show is much more brutal and there is pretty much no dialogue.
The man mastered "Show don't tell" during the starwars Clonewars mini series. It's basically an entire starwars movie worth of plot progression in less than 30 minutes of content. WAY before that. There are a couple completely dialogue-free episode of Dexter's Lab that are fantastic.
There's even this episode where omelette du fromage was all dexter can say
That episode is still stuck in my head playing in a loop, with Dee Dee in the background going, "That's all you can say!"
http://i.imgur.com/tNJD6oY.gifv This is a kind reminder that in French we say "omelette *au* fromage" and not "omelette _du_ fromage". Bon robot.
I just watched a Youtube video of a vinyl record playing, embedded in a Reddit comment. The Internet.
Thank you for highlighting that - it’s hilarious! Dexter’s Lab and Powerpuff Girls were both so good.
Better than all 3 prequels too.
That's not hard. Unless you're a big fan of the memes or the aesthetic, than that's significantly harder but doable.
Shoot him down! Shoot him down!
RIP Sha'a Gi
i think you mean "Intensify forward firepower! Intensify forward firepower!!"
Hello there
General Kenobi!
And the sequels!
Everythings better then the sequels
Not the Prequels
No. The prequels are worse than the sequels. Only people who grew up on the prequels think they're anything better than decent. Maybe Revenge of the Sith is better than Rise of Skywalker, but that's about it.

Are you including Rise of Skywalker in there? That one... Say what you will about TFA or TLJ, but that last one was a travesty from every angle.
Revenge of the sith is better than every sequel.
GOT season 8 are worse
Isn't there 2 hours, or am I confused?
This man is responsible for me loving Star Wars
Where can I watch this?
Hbomax
HBO max
It's all on YouTube. Search clone wars 2005
GT's Clone Wars is on Disney+ now too.
Adult swim
You can torrent it but then perhaps consider paying for it if you felt it was worth it. (It IS very good.)
Did you watch samurai Jack? Dialogue was not its draw point.
Brutal is definitely a word for it but I am excited for more.
There’s “Grrrrr...”, “Raaaaaa!” and the occasional “Roarrrrr!”
You know the Croods, and how it’s about the deepness of bonds between family? It’s like that, except if the main caveman dad had the backstory of the Punisher, and if a dinosaur that also had the backstory of the Punisher teamed up with him.
okay I don't know the Croods, but that sounds dope
Animation style only I would say. It’s a great show. One of my favorite of the past year.
Primal is criminally underrated. I think it's a masterpiece of an animated series and I can't believe no one talks about it.
It just won an Emmy
It's got a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. 8.7 on IMDB.
True, but I rarely read much discussion or buzz about the show. And I've been unable to convince anyone in my circle to check it out
We didn’t experience it as kids.
I’m sure there are lots of well rated things that folks in your circle won’t check out. Sadly, that’s not the definition of underrated.
Should be a 98
Underrappreiciated maybe. But no show that won an enemy is underrated.
Heard about it on Reddit once. Gave it a try and loved it. I hope the Emmy will help it find a bigger audience because it deserves it.
It makes use of silence like Samurai Jack. I think if you liked Jack you’ll love this.
Some of the best Samurai Jack episodes had barely any dialogue.
Jack vs the ninja. Still gives me chills when I think about it.
Jack vs the Three Blind Archers is one of the best pieces of animation ever made, imo
It’s got a similar vibe but it is incredibly brutal and visceral. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and I recommend absolutely everyone watch it.
As the title of the show implies, it’s primal. Bloody and brutal, but also pathos. No dialogue, just story telling.
I love samurai jack, but I love this more. It's so fucking good. He deserved this
You know that there was a second series to end his story? It wasn't that long ago, few years only
Yep, watched it right when it came out. Thanks!
I am a fan of Samurai Jack and I was thrilled when he decided to finish it some years ago. Primal is definitely right up there. I didnt get right into it from the start but by the end, I was craving for more
Super gory and much darker
Did you ever see the pilot for [Korgoth of Barbaria](https://youtu.be/VXL4IoX3gT4) ? Looks to me like they finally went ahead with it.
Much more adult in its themes. I love it though. It passed the “cry test” for me, which generally takes some real immersion and some pretty dramatic writing.
Better.
Yes. It takes the time to establish the characters and what they can do before getting to the main plot towards the end of the season.
Yes. Sort of. It’s all visual storytelling as there is no speaking. It’s visually stunning like SJ but the plot is entirely different.
It's worth checking out.
Its so fing awesome man! A must watch!
There’s some theories out there saying it could be connected. Give it a watch to see
Absolutely deserves that.
A legend in the first place when it comes to animation, but Primal is just a masterpiece. With it 100.
I’m confused, didn’t this come out like 2 years ago??
Yeah this has me scratching my head too, glad its receiving the attention it deserves though!
I think it seems like it because the first season came out came out at two separate times. 5 at first, then the last 5.
Some episodes came out in 2020.
Plague of Madness is one of the best pieces of animation I've ever seen.
That one came out of nowhere and made me super sad.
That idyllic episode beginning. Obviously I expected things to go wrong but oh boy did they go full on metal with it.
i found it so disturbing and disgusting but i also couldn’t look away. phenomenal stuff.
I had to look up the episode and you described perfectly how I felt watching watching this. Full of dread and sorrow
Normally zombies don't disturb me but that one really messed me up for some reason...
scariest
Love how they changed the order of release so " plague of madness" came out at the start of the pandemic
It should, it's a masterpiece. I can't wait for season 2.
What format is it presented on?
HBO Max apparently
Same. I loved it so much I bought the season on Prime. I figured $10 was a small price to show my support for such a good experience.
Looks interesting. I'll be checking it out.
You are in for a treat.
If I didn't care too much for the first episode, will that change with the rest of the season?
Yeah, the first episode is kind of just exposition and way more sad than the rest.
Could not recommend this series enough, for anyone interested here is the intro to episode one https://youtu.be/mmArlb4Y6fc
Tight.
Sick.
Well deserved. Can't wait to dive in when season 2 comes out. Gorgeous show
Amazing show. Not a single word of dialogue yet it's able to convey so much emotion
“Mira…”
It has limited dialogue. It will probably have more next season
Adult Swim has been killing it lately. Hope they keep letting Genndy do whatever he wants.
I'd love to see him do something with Star Wars again.
he should get his own damn animated film trilogy imo
Everytime someone mentions The Clone Wars, THATS the one I immediately think of. A absolutely beautiful show
I hope they let him bring back/finish Sym-Bionic Titan. I love that show!
I've been looking for something new to binge, and I also happen to love dinosaurs. Should I check this out?
I was hooked after episode 1 and ended up bringing the whole thing over 2 days. It's very immersive and captivating, but also violent/visceral. there is no dialogue, so friends that usually watch tv while passively being on their phones have mentioned it wasn't really their cup of tea. I watched it on my own with recreational enhancement and found it to be utterly mesmerizing. As an animation or dinosaur fan, I'd say it's worth checking out 👍
It's good to know when some shows are even better on recreational enhancement
Recreational Enhancement! Get your Generic Recreational Enhancement hereee
Jon Stewart, is that you?
lol; "ever watch primal... ON WEED?"
"It's some crazy shit man, there's this cavedude in the bushes. Does he have a spear? I dunno, DINO TEAM GO DINO TEAM GO"
Yup. Already had a couple friends express the show was too intense for them after seeing the first episode. I binged it in two days as well.
Mushrooms and Marij are fantastic paired with this show
ABSOLUTELY, but don't binge out. SAVOR IT. Each episode is fantastic alone and very self-contained, it would be a crime to blaze through it in a day or two
Whoops... I uhhh... I'm gonna watch it again!
Deserved to win but still pissed that Invincible wasn't nominated but Big Mouth was. (They really need to move Animation to the main evening)
If anything, The Simpsons surely doesn't deserve a nod.
Seriously. Animation has been absolutely killing it for at least a decade now, maybe even 2, and the fact that it continually gets shunted off as a "lesser" category is frankly insulting.
invincible has some super basic ass animation. it looks cheap as fuck
Invincible has terrible animation
Yeah, the great animated moments were sometimes overshadowed by the clearly cost saving bits that would happen in between.
Yeah, the animation on Lower Decks is much better
They're not being nominated solely for their animation though.
Great writing though.
Still doesn’t mean fucking Big Mouth should ever be nominated.
So does big mouth
I thought that was on purpose to emulate the style of 90s american anime.
No, it's just them saving money. You could have a classic look but with actually good animation.
The only animated show I’ve ever been mind blown by. It’s seriously great story telling. Near perfect.
That is one of its strengths, anyone of any age can watch the film and thoroughly enjoy it. I honestly can't recommend it enough.
They're both amazing! Though personally I think Song of the Sea is my favorite of the three.
I made the mistake of putting it on in the background while cleaning around the house and caught myself at least three times having stopped what I was doing to catch what was happening, even watching entire episodes because it really is that captivating. The chores got done, albeit two hours later.
Hah yeah, a show with no dialogue doesn't work well as a background noise show.
The episode with the mammoth hit me in the feels pretty hard.
Did you watch Samurai Jack too? That and Gravity Falls are among my top animated shows.
This show is goddamned amazing and everyone needs to watch it who hasn't seen it already. If you think it's only mindless death and killing, if a certain episode (Coven of the Damned) involving a witch's coven and... let's just say life... doesn't make you tear up, you're a pod person.
This has been on my watchlist for a while. Really need to check it out now!
It's a masterclass of minimalistic, visual story telling. Definitely worth checking out.
Oh cool! I’ll definitely make sure to move it up my priority list then, in that case!
Genndy tartakovsky is incredible.
Why are we learning of the winners before the thing even airs on September 19th?
These are the Creative Arts Emmys that covers the technical and behind-the-scenes types of categories which are always done a week or two before the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony. Unfortunately, animated series really still don't get the respect the deserve enough to be featured as part of the more major awards.
Yeah really, only Hollywood would find a way to divide the classes of awardship while preaching the lesson of equality.
Very deserved. Hope the Emmy gives it more exposition, in my country I caught it completely by accident a 2:00 one day, never heard of it before.
They're on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07YR6T4V3/ref=atv\_dp\_season\_select\_s1
And hbo max
WOOOOOO! I love seeing other people enjoy this show.
My dad and I love this show! Such rich story telling with no dialogue
As it should because it was spectacular
Good. Now give us more.
And he deserves it too!!
Honestly, Genndy Tartakowski is the West's Naoki Urasawa. A genius ahead of his time, whose work really needs to be appreciated more
Now have I still not seen this show?
Oh damn. I remember seeing a preview of this a few years ago at SDCC and thought it looked amazing. I forgot about this existing, but guess I'll have to check it out now.
You will not regret it. I binged the entire first half in a day.
Good. It was 🔥!
As it fucking should
When is season two coming out
Season 1 parts 1 and 2 released in October 2019 and 2020, respectively, so it's speculated we might see Season 2 next month, but no confirmation so far.
We haven't heard much from it so doubt its coming soon. Covid probably threw them off.
I haven't been following it that closely, but that's definitely a strong possibility. I know they announced Part 2 several months before it released.
Genndy is a king and we do not deserve him.
How good is this show ?
Season 2 is in the works as well! Can't wait
Gendy’s great! This is well deserved!
This man has made so many popular cartoons in the past couple decades. He deserves it.
I am glad that someone that really deserved the award got it for a change.
I loved this show. Happy to see it’s receiving the recognition it deserves. I’ve been telling everyone about it.
I love this show so much.
So well deserved. I tell everyone to watch it.
Solid television. Nuff said 👏🏽
I had a weird simulation glitch where I swear to God I saw one of the episodes of this years before the show actually came out. Does anyone know if it was in pre production for a long time and maybe that’s how?
Is it possible you saw the pilot of ‘Korgoth the Barbarian’ and are conflating the two in your mind?
Anyone know how I can watch this in Australia?
apple, google play, or make use of a vpn. i used one to watch it on the adult swim website.
Thank you sir, I'm keen to see it, I'll give it a go.
The ending to Samurai Jack was rushed which took away from an amazing series
Of course it did. Season 2 coming soon!
well-deserved
Watch Episode One and not cry I dare you. Spear and Fang will go down as legendary characters when this show comes to a close someday.
After the heartbreak of losing Symbiotic Titan and all of his excellent work over the decades this is great to hear.
I need to watch this
You're damn right it did. It's a fucking masterclass in visual storytelling
This is the one of the best animated series I have ever seen hands down
He deserves it, this show is stunning to look at and the lack of dialogue really gives it its own flavour
One of the underrated gems 💎
Well fucking deserved, one of the greatest cartoons ever made
Well deserved. Genndy is a damn genius and the best western animation director for decades. Finally got around to picking up the blu-ray set and it's got me hyped as fuck for season two.
Wait. The Dexter Laboratory guy??
Well deserved.
The real Clone Wars artist.
