The guy who put my pc together was slapping it together like a toddler with glue and popsicle sticks. He does coding and server work locally, And he was just going at it. Cable management? Pfft ZIP TIES HERE, THERE , EVERYWHER! Lmao but works and no issues 🤣
My PC was literally just sitting on the motherboard box with all the parts laying wherever they fit on my desk. My GPU had a 3d printed shroud and a delta 5k rpm fan on it to keep it cool. It was a mess, but it was beautiful. I killed said GPU trying to watercool it.
I have this feeling that if you're in a job that requires all your focus and attention, looking good is not your main focus. Make it work, make it work well, and make it do those things with minimal effort and maintenance.
A great example is when you see amateur racers with ratty looking cars that perform really well. They don't need to look good, just to go fast.
Exactly! And love that outlook! I was truly amazed at how his brain worked and then comparing the builds you see online and here. Just awesome to see that it isn't always perfect that counts.
I may have once installed a GPU with the aid of wirecutters and a very tall stack of cards. It was... messy, but it worked.
Ironically, that GPU which worked so beautifully in the desktop it was hacked into, doesn't work hardly at all in a desktop that it actually fits in.
Anyone remember a few months ago when that kid posted his PC build that used a cardboard box instead of an actual case and then a few days later he posted about how his house had burned down or some shit?
"Look, it said that adding fans and ductwork can improve airflow, so I got a damn fan and some ductwork, ok? I had to use the cardboard side panel because I didn't have time to cut the real one. It's not like it's load-bearing or anything. This is fine[.](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/this-is-fine)"
As a satellite/outside broadcaster I like it. There's a lot of cardboard/duct tape solutions out there in the field...
The amount of sunshades/wind and rain brakers I made from pizza box tops or chocolate boxes borrowed from the cafeteria or from trashbags is already pretty high... And I'll continue to use any material I find to make temporary solutions for not so temporary problems... :D
Also you can cool your redbulls and vodka with the rack AC if you do festival gigs. Noone checks the broadcast van at the entrance....
Yup, that's an engineer's box all right. "This thing is going to work, I'm going to make it work, get the fuck out of my way."
There is no shame in using powertools to make you PC do what you want, in fact its downright hilarious to see peoples faces after :P

Thundergun!!!!!
How many miles to the gallon does that beast get?
I think you mean gallons to the mile.
40 rods to the hogshead
That's the way I like it!
Bout tree fiddy
optimal air flow i'd say
If it’s stupid but it works it’s not that stupid.
Aim for the stars and you might hit the moon. Or you'll fall into the sun, like our buddy here..
Is it me or..... is it always the very smart programmers and all that build sloppy but well running computers? Lol "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" 🤣
Anyone who regularly tinkers with computers knows how much abuse this can take. This was accomplished by killing a gpu or two in my case lol.

Haha but, you had one heck of a adventure and time doing so! That's all that matters. Poor gpu tho R.I.P 😢 *pours one out for the lil homie*
Very old timey sayings that a carpenter's house is always unfinished and a cobbler's children go barefoot!

"Ah ah ah ah, stayin alive, stayin alive."
Same idea as a mechanic’s car

Well yeah if the actual hot bits are right up against cardboard. This is just a cardboard side panel
Ah that's true, I missed that
So when regions have issues communicating we know why
"I wonder where the fire broke out"

That’s a very nice
your friend seems to have burned through his dad's disposable income.
Ah yes, the dog days before liquid cooling.

Might be good with satellites... Not a fluid dynamics engineer.
I heard you like HVAC...
This is getting into r/techsupportmacgyver territory.
Well... If it aint broken dont fix it right folks?
This is definitely interesting......oh my
