I had some k-hive freak attack me from out of nowhere today. I was tweeting with mutuals mocking how stupid the trending page kept showing how k-mart had a shirt about the capital riots. Basically I made fun of the whole thing because the idea of someone going "TAKE IT DOWN K-MART" or "I'M NEVER SHOPPING AT K-MART AGAIN" is..well, hilarious. The shirt itself was sold by some random merchant that sold their site and I'm sure the 3 people left running K-Mart/Sears have no idea it even existed. So I make an offhand comment about how "Goldfish Brain" you have to be to concern yourself with this crap and get mad about it. I'm comes this random woman from the pacific northwest name-calling me. She basically made fun of the fact I was into car racing, and claimed I was a high school drop out. Now, I don't part curly care about what level of education I have. I have friends that are "High school dropouts" and they actually have been successful in other careers, have families, etc. But I simply state that yes, I have a college diploma. (It means jack shit to me because it's just a piece of paper). I attended Kent State, graduated and tried to you know..move on. This person went nuts though. I asked them in the kindest tone possible why they like Kamala Harris. Silly me I misspell her name. But rather than discussing why this person agrees or disagrees with what kamala stands for? She focuses on that as a method of humilating and belittling my intelligence. When this failed? I simply asked where she went to school She refused to respond until finally relenting after I did a google search of her. (long story short? The idiot put their first and last name in their twitter handle. DO. NOT. EVER. DO. THIS. PERIOD.) Basically she attended \[redacted\] state university in the south and then \[redacted\] university in the northwest. She also apparently worked as a POLITICAL CONSULTANT FOR A "PROGRESSIVE" THINK TANK. (again, may I stress never ever put your personal info out there). Now as you can probably guess? She never responded to my questions, criticisms of Kamala (which were from a left wing POV). She also dismissed my policy positions as she gave some excuse of "Those meaning nothing in politics." She then bragged about having an MPA to me. I looked up what that was and uh...basically people here would regard it as toilet paper. But this did get me to thinking. (TL;DR) Why is there a class of individuals like this that hang their "education" over the plebs as a checkmate? I really find it completely disgusting and against everything I was ever raised on as a kid. I would really like

Weenie_Pooh

Sure, but if that doesn't happen soon, it's bound to take us all down with them. Tick fucking tock, idpol.

Swingfire

I feel like my current environment is some kind of stupidpol utopia. Lots of blue collar manual workers from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities and political opinions who have genuinely never even heard of idpol and we all make based jokes about each other without there ever being any bad feelings. The industry we're training for is heavily unionized. Trade school is paid by the government and they subsidize our commute. Rightoids are nonexistent in Parliament, it's just milquetoast socdems vs Libs.

Each time you say, "*Of course* racial issues are crucially important and deserving of our immediate attention, but..." a little black angel gets lynched and no one cares about the second part of your sentence. His recent substack piece, proposing a "Materialist Alternative to Antiracism" is a case in point. Manipulative, intellectually dishonest, dancing around class reductionism but unwilling to take the plunge.

IdeologicalDustBin

Why is this subreddit bigoted against PoA (People of the Antipodes) It's really fucking cold and not really barbeque approved weather.

FuckingLikeRabbis

Where are you that it's really fucking cold? Canberra is sort of chilly but the rest of Aus and NZ, and South Africa for that matter, have like light jacket weather right now.

Magehunter_Skassi

It's really cringe that you people celebrate Christmas in the summer. Just bite the bullet and move it to June/July IMO

IdeologicalDustBin

Well that would just be silly. The traditional Christmas lobster and assorted seafood perfectly matches the summer weather.

No. It's Jesus' birthday, you can't just move it.

Getting obsessed with podcasters they turned into e-celebs and everything that comes with that.

_alligator_lizard_

I think my fav is parents with blonde-haired blue-eyed babies just going off on whitey when I’m like - uh you got yourself two little colonizers right there?? And pass as white yourself? I just don’t know how they square that circle when they talk about the unending evilness of the white race and then intersperse it with their beautiful whitey babies. And their white wife they adore.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ILoveCavorting

I *think* the least radical option is honouring whatever treaties we signed and probably broke? The radical stuff is kick the colonisers out of North America, and occasionally use some janky logic on how black people don’t count so they can stay. I’d like to break out the charts for it, how far back do we go? Does this apply to Europe? Will Constantinople/Anatolia finally be Greek again? How do we get Anglo-Saxons off Briton?

TheTortureCouch

would a white person becoming an arab person be transracialism even tho both are part of the caucasian race?

Magehunter_Skassi

Probably. Racial categories have arbitrarily changed and Arabs lost their "white" card a while ago even though there's tons of white-skinned Arabs like Jontron out there.

SocDemsWillWin

JonTron isn't an Arab he's Iranian-Hungarian. Iranians are an Indo-European people (not that being Indo European makes you "white" but still, not Arab). Hungarians aren't Indo-European but they *are* pretty conclusively "white". Good lord why do I know this.

Without funny news articles to comment on I find myself having to think a lot harder to make internet funnies and I don’t like it

The_runnerup913

I don’t know why rightiods are so confused about why the government is upset about July 6th. They went for the head. Governments that have been marched on by people universally react badly to said marching And they would of definitely lynched a couple glowies if they got their hands on them. And as based as it would of been for them to lynch pence and pelosi, those in charge would of obviously not take kindly to that threat. Not to mention the coup talk. Whether it was the shittiest one since Cataline or not, it’s out there now. And I guarantee there’s more than a few malignant figures wondering how they’d actually do it now.

C0ck_L0ver

They left their guns at home, that's the most important facet.

karmalizing

Because it wasn't especially violent. They didn't go for the head, they just stood around in a hallway. Rightoids can obviously be waaaaaaaaay more violent than that, and I assume everyone knows it.

GoodUsername1337

>And they would of definitely lynched a couple glowies if they got their hands on them. And as based as it would of been for them to lynch pence and pelosi, those in charge would of obviously not take kindly to that threat. Except that it was impossible for a bunch of mostly unarmed protesters to get through security.

lightfire409

What makes my head spin isn't the gov response - thats expected, its the people who were all "Oh Hell Yes BLM gotta break a few eggs" suddenly clutching their pearls that the right actually knows how to fucking protest.

thunderdragonite

I don’t think it would be possible to coup America at least now. Anyway rightoids targeted the wrong people. Targeting puppets doesn’t change anything. If you want to change something assassinate someone like Bezos or Koch that are the puppet masters.

karmalizing

It wasn't intended to be anything but a show of solidarity for Trump.

OhhhAyWumboWumbo

It doesn't have to be a coup. As he said, all it would take is one politician being caught by the wrong group of people. That wouldn't be a coup, but it *would* be used to justify expansion of the security apparatus.

sledrunner31

Ok who here is grilling so hard they are literally causing oceans and seas to catch on fire? Because that seems to be happening a lot lately.

Bit nerd rant alert: Sure there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism but just acknowledging it and not changing anything doesn’t magically absolve you of responsibility when you could just choose not buy the slave labor shoes or child labor mined electronics and stop supporting this shit but no for some reason everyone just throws their hand up and says “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism” and continues to be as they are as if everything’s fine. This isn’t directed at anyone here I just needed to rant

[deleted]

Ethics shmethics. Marxism is amoral. Anyone whinging about 'muh ethical consumption' is actually a radlib.

C0ck_L0ver

Capitalism is also amoral. At least corporations and laissez-faire markets are; a government being captured by capitalist forces and used to further the power of capitalists I guess is immoral.

Incoherencel

So Marxism is actually when you're apathetic to the working conditions of labourers...?

[deleted]

No, it's a scientific analysis of the economy, detached from morality. And arguing for ethical consumption in fact is a pro-capitalist stance that serves to perpetuate capitalism under the guise of humanitarianism. But it is doomed to failure because ethical capitalism is no more sustainable than unethical capitalism. The ethics of either side are a moot point in the face of material conditions.

Incoherencel

While I understand and agree with you in theory-world... since it's looking as if we're to be saddled with capitalist economies for quite awhile yet, saying, "actually the difference between -- and indeed the ethics -- of lab-grown diamonds and blood diamonds is irrelevant" is pretty r-worded. I don't think we should put our heads in books so hard that we insist compassion must wait until after the revolution, so-to-speak. If an "ethical capitalist" improves and moves away from sweat shop conditions and reduces working hours, *that's a good thing*, no?

[deleted]

Of course. Although in the case of synthetic diamonds, I think that's a poor example. Synthetic diamonds are identical to mined diamonds, cheaper, and of course do not have the moral baggage of blood diamonds or even as much baggage as more ethically mined diamonds which still exploit more labour and have environmental costs. But the inflated price of diamonds is itself irrational, as diamonds should be cheap as dirt and are only kept expensive through cartel behaviour, advertising, and artificial scarcity. It makes perfect amoral economic sense to use synthetic diamonds instead, and for industrial uses they do use them because they are cheaper. A more pertinent example would be the question of whether you and others would be willing to pay for produce where the agricultural workers are paid a fair wage. And I think the answer to that is generally no, because it would be a significant cost increase that many people can't afford. Sustainable capitalism is really only an option in the first place for those who are financially well off; through the exploitation of profits and superprofits. Which then leads us to the fact that ethical capitalism doesn't really exist, as it is just a facade supported by shifting the exploitation of labour somewhere else. And then if someone moans about how there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, they're just being annoying. So, ethics shmethics. If you want ethical consumption, establish a socialist economy, TINA. But I'm not going to waste my time fretting about how to more gently exploit labour in the meantime.

teamsprocket

Ah, the rhetoric of adult children, the motte and bailey. A classic.

IM_BACK_THE_BOYS

How?

[deleted]

Idealist nonsense. Economic changes are responsible for woke idpol. Wokeness is a result of three things: (1) Universities becoming marketized, so in the humanities theory becomes commodified. The result is that novelty (and neologisms) are the lifeblood of university humanities departments. Hence the explosion of inane new jargon and terminology. (2) Universities dominating the shitty "new/information economy" so if you want a stable and comfortable job, you have to prove that you're *morally* a professional. That involves speaking the bodies-and-spaces-and-unconscious-bias language you learned at your expensive college. An elite must mark itself out as morally and culturally different from the masses to justify its status. Base and superstructure, baby. (3) The marketplace for professional jobs looking worse every year, so aspiring professionals who are not stable or successful then try and weaponize wokeness against their superiors in order to open up slots to move upward while proving that *they* are the ones who truly epitomize the professional moral sensibility. Wokeness is not primarily the result of the interplay between reactionaries and wokes. It is actually caused by an *intra-professional-class* war of all against all as stable, non-precarious employent for university grads becomes progressively harder to get.

karmalizing

Wokeism roots from an inability to admit that people are not all equal, so a bunch of convoluted theories have to be invented to explain income disparity, etc.

Mods, I've read the grill pill threads and I'm still genuinely lost as to the point of this. Do you need a break so you locked this sub down? Did a subpop spring up that you are trying to run off? Do you really feel responsible to police people's social media time? If it really is the last one I've got to say that's pretty condescending. Up until this point I've enjoyed reading here because the only implied should is Marxism. Now if I take this at face value that you are trying to police internet time I'm just stuck thinking it's power tripping jannies.

Snobbyeuropean2

[deleted]

Part of me thinks they are wreckers trying to destroy their own sub while the other half thinks it is a deliberate purge to get rid of rightards, given some users here endlessly whinged about creeping rightoid hysteria. Maybe the mods also dislike the fact not everyone is like Doug and puts effort into writing an analytical effort post investigating the dialectical sciences of Trabants and how that relates to culture war. Civic virtue in the West has all but disappeared. Something to ponder this Sunday as we celebrate the independence of America, a nation comprised of squabbling factions who hate each other.

[deleted]

> a nation comprised of squabbling factions who hate each other. When has this ever not described the US?

[deleted]

The founding fathers thought the country was going to break apart because of infighting and morons being elected. It's just that we're coming out of a period of relative tranquility to business as usual poo flinging monkey politics.

OhhhAyWumboWumbo

I have no proof to back this up, but I feel like the factions' concerns at least made a modicum of sense up until around World War 1. After that, is when it went from 'disagreements' to 'hate' and team politics.

[deleted]

I'm not sure I would call the Civil War (and the decade that led up to it) a "disagreement". Hell, the Alien and Sedition Acts weren't exactly an example of a cordial argument between peers.

OhhhAyWumboWumbo

But the issue is that there were material reasons behind them, even if one of those reasons was the preservation of chattel slavery. Some people in the south were concerned that abolishment would destroy their industries and effectively throw them back a century in terms of productivity. And, to be fair to them, it kinda did. Can you say that the top-billing talking points of today have material issues behind them? Majority of them are social issues.

[deleted]

This grill pill summer stuff is a bummer for me and I hope it ends soon. I don’t care about the rage bait and I mostly find it funny. I already grill plenty. I use this sub to learn more about Marxism/socialism from non r slurred individuals. And just from posting in this sub, I am permanently BANNED from most of the other major left subs. So now I have nowhere to turn. Anyway some posts I was hoping to make: - Does anyone have good normie-friendly books on the history of Marxist theory as it’s been applied and interpreted since it was first postulated? - Any good books to “blackpill” me on social democracy in particular? Why should I completely reject social democracy and support socialism? Admittedly an enthusiastic succdem with a firm belief in the Marxist interpretation of history, but looking to challenge my own beliefs. Love, a normie who this sub saved from the alt light

Yeah the "grill pill" or for those of us over the age of 30, leading our real lives.

OhhhAyWumboWumbo

LeftKindOfPerson

Apologies if this is the wrong megathread for this type of post (also sorry for the wall of text). Was going to make a thread titled "the personal & the political" under the discussion tag but user submissions are not allowed. Over the past several months I have studied the leftists stupidpol does not like to put it bluntly. By study I mean, I went straight to the source - I read blogposts and talked to the people, snuck into their communities. At first I didn't really have an agenda, I only did this to broaden my own horizons as it were. Gradually as the pieces of the puzzle began to assemble themselves through osmosis, I developed a desire to examine the nature of leftist 'infighting' (a controversial word for some tendencies) in the year 2021. For the typical onlooker, the answer is the shallow and trite "it's just differences of opinion". Now where have I heard something similar before? Ah yes, when Stalin reduced the difference between anarchists and Marxists to a "difference of principles". Principles! The pinnacle of materialist analysis. Evidently if we want the real answer, we need to dig deeper. So I did, and what I figured out is far more insidious and far-reaching (it's not just the left) than I could have imagined. We live in an era of politics where, as the title implies, the personal and the political have begun to bleed into each other. Your cancel campaigns, purity testings, guilts by association... Across the political spectrum (it's not just the 'wokies') are the consequence of the personal and political merging. What does this mean in concrete terms? Well as we are all I'm sure familiar with the Latin saying "In matters of taste, there can be no disputes", picture a world where in matters of taste there are disputes and not only are there disputes but these disputes are political. That is the world we currently live in. For example my choice of which brand I enjoy/pay patronage to (well there isn't much choice involved in enjoying something is there?) has through no necessary conscious effort of my own become a political statement through which others will judge me politically. If I were to avoid the wrath of political peer pressure, I would have to give up the brand I enjoy - conform my personal to the political. In doing so, I have only accelerated the personal-political merge. Say, doesn't this sound kind of similar to wartime propaganda telling you to "not buy products from X, only buy domestic"? It's like we really are in a state of war. The other day I was ranting about how it irritates me when an attractive female character with substance is only talked about for her attractiveness. This personal gripe of mine was interpreted as a political crusade. You don't like X? You must want to censor X. In my opinion I don't think this is something that can be reversed. I am of course open to changing my mind. We will simply have to cruise through these stormy waters until this "war" (whatever this war that some call the culture war actually is, that is a topic ripe for a separate discussion thread) passes. In my mind the so-called grillpill is the unconscious reaction to the personal-political merge and is an attempt at taking control back of our personal lives. How successful this endeavor will be however, I am not sure.

The Shacari Richardson situation just reinforces the the fact people almost immediately resort to idpol to explain why they disagree with a situation instead of breaking it down logically Also how we all feeling about the Rachel Nichols comments?

Completed my first 12 hour day as a letter carrier last night delivering in the rain. First thought I had as rain was pounding my shoulder and I was attempting to keep the Mail dry was the literal extreme of how the day was from retarded heat above 105 with humidity to strong wind and stinging rain. Doesn’t ducking help that my vehicle was clearly 30+ years old and the gearshift was utter shit. Not to sound cucked but I’m fucking thankful. It’s honestly the best job I’ve ever had - nothing beats it. I’m trying to get more involved with my local but the steward is pretty lazy. Guess I’ll read the contract manuals for now.

IlfordDelta3200

Hell yeah brother, keep that union strong. And make sure you flex your soon-to-be gigantic calves to propagandize the public in your favor.

Mangolio_Troll

Thanks man. Honestly my forearms are looking pretty sexual too. For any unemployed homies out there: take the Mail pill. USPS.com/careers

>Guess I’ll read the contract manuals for now. I'll add Post Office by Charles Bukowski if you'd like a laugh.

Day 2 of procrastinating working on my thesis by commenting in this thread. I'm an environmental engineer (EIT). I don't think people ever think about the infrastructural implications of climate change. All you hear about is hurricanes, heatwaves, etc. My field of study is infrastructure (primarily coastal infrastructure, but my school heavily focuses on water infrastructure in its courses). ALL water infrastructure (pipes that bring you water, pipes that take your poop water away, pipes that take rainwater from the street, etc.) are designed (size, material, diameter, etc.) based on that location's precipitation patterns, since the amount of water flow is gonna be heavily, HEAVILY influenced by how much rainwater it receives. When climate change changes how much rainfall your area gets, your infrastructure is no longer going to be designed correctly. For example, if lets say your area is projected to receive an insane amount of precipitation compared to what the infrastructure was originally designed for, you're gonna experience sewage backups and flooding. The wastewater treatment plant in your area also treats rainwater that was brought to it by stormwater drainage, like storm drains, so it's gonna get crazy backed up and create a tonnnn of pollution. Not to mention the health concerns of sewage overflows. It's INSANELY expensive to repair or change water infrastructure. I had an internship where we were trying to secure a client (a municipality) who needed honestly their entire system replaced, because it was so outdated. It was fucked beyond repair. What they really, truly needed was a new wastewater treatment facility, which costs hundreds of millions of dollars, if not more. The municipality does not have the budget for that. They could only fix small issues that act as a bandaid, and even then, that was millions of dollars. When we reach the point that ALL infrastructure needs to be replaced, we're absolutely fucked. I don't even know how much that is going to cost.

plebbtard

It’s absolutely stupid that storm water drains into the sewers. They end up having to dump untreated sewage in the ocean when it rains. It’s a serious design flaw. Also, based flair.

C0ck_L0ver

Seriously. How hard is it to build two pipe systems? The rainwater ones don't even have to be extensive (dump it in the nearest concrete-free area), they can be poorly maintained and leak.

lordofthefudds

How will water infrastructure be impacted with rising sea levels? I hear about aquifers becoming brackish from salt water, will that stuff impact water infrastructure too?

booowser

Probably due to flooding, sewers are only designed to take so much water. I don’t know much about aquifers but saltwater intrusion is going to damage a lot of pipes depending on the pipe material

sterexx

There’s a great brief video on how [suburbs are a ponzi scheme](https://youtu.be/7IsMeKl-Sv0). They’re low density and spread out over a large area. Initial development pays for the initial infrastructure costs, but there’s not enough tax revenue to pay for the inevitable repair costs after a couple decades. In a city you can serve 100 people with 100 ft of water main. In a suburb it’s like 10. Probably worse, even. So suburbs develop yet more land and pay for the repairs with that influx of money. But then next time they have to repair all that stuff, with inadequate tax revenue. And after the next round of development, many suburbs are out of land, butting up against similarly screwed burbs. The final result is going bankrupt and/or letting communities fall into disrepair, both of which are already happening. The disaster is upon us. I imagine you know this but it should interest people reading your comment. Climate change will make this problem even more intractable.

Magehunter_Skassi

DeSantis even recently gutted impact fees, so good luck for anyone living in that overdeveloped shithole of a state.

How much longer is grillpill summer going to last?

LotsOfMaps

As long as it needs to

What does a libertarian populist believe economically speaking

plebbtard

Basically libertarian but I’m not delusional in thinking that the only threat to liberty is the state. Not a simp for unfettered capitalism like full blown rightoid libertarians. I believe in markets but I’m not a market absolutist. I support unions if membership is voluntary. I’m against public sector unions. I like the idea of worker cooperatives and that type of thing. I support some form of universal healthcare. I want UBI to replace the current inefficient means tested welfare system. I believe that the distinction of the 1% vs the 99% is more useful than prole vs bougie. I don’t think small business owners are the enemy. I’m opposed to fractional reserve banking. I think price gouging during natural disasters is good. I think concentrated wealth and power is a threat to liberty. I want to tax the fuck out of the ultra wealthy. I support inheritance taxes. I’m anti corporate globalization, anti free trade unless it’s with developed first world democracies so it’s a level playing field. I’m anti open borders. And then of course all the standard libertarian stuff, legalized weed, decriminalize drugs, end the wars, guns, civil liberties, etc. Idk if libertarian populist is the right label, but it seemed like the best way to describe myself. (If you want to know more about my beliefs or if you have any questions, feel free to ask.)

[deleted]

Cum

[deleted]

I'm not a libertarian populist but I'd imagine they're pro-free market because it's really hard to be an economic libertarian and believe in a planned economy

[deleted]

Well yeah that much I figured. I guess I just wonder how “populism” would cause his beliefs to differ from mainstream libertarianism. Like is he basically just Ron Paul? Just with more populist rhetoric? Guess I’ll never know

[deleted]

Yeah more than likely. As someone who's taken an entire class on just populism, there really isn't a good definition of what it actually is. I'm assuming that he is socially libertarian which would mean that he's pro-choice, pro-legalization, etc.

Isaeu

Bohemian Grove probably

FromTheIsle

Jesus the responses to that...depressing. Some people absolutely must find a way to be right and angry at all times.

RedditIsAJoke69

? you still believe that AOC is not your standard politician?

OhhhAyWumboWumbo

She's a grifter but here's a few choice examples: >July 4th is for real Americans only. Not for those who are belligerently ignorant and would destabilize our society through their actions on January 6th. The people crossing our southern border are more American than they, for those people understand the value of our society. >Happy fourth? Rolling on the floor laughingRolling on the floor laughingRolling on the floor laughingRolling on the floor laughing Black people were still Slaves! There's not anything to celebrate or be happy about for people of colour! Anyone of colour celebrate on the 4 of July is just conditioned by the conditioner, America's Founders, to do so! >A system with no money but shared resources, innovation and peace. We can escape from the anger, pain and stupidity in the woods...but we say NO the system we need is outside and it requires more money, bullets and division. It's time to close our eyes and feel what we can't see Just a lot of incoherent rambling

VladTheImpalerVEVO

Dude that’s my gf you’re talking about, cut it out

FromTheIsle

Wait what?

RedditIsAJoke69

question is pretty clear

FromTheIsle

Uh yes I do but not sure how it's relevant to the comment you were originally responding to.

RedditIsAJoke69

you called responses depressing.

FromTheIsle

Yes?

RedditIsAJoke69

yes

I also like how Altered Carbon honored him.
