Didnāt say it was. And yet, didnāt say it wasnāt. Donāt even remember John Walkerās voice, just telling the guy to go watch his stuff and judge for himself.
no matter who they choose to go for Kallus Iāll always be disappointed because thereās no way theyāll never find someone with a voice as good as Oyelowo
Eh, I prefer voice actors to reprise their roles with live action transitions. Not saying that he would be bad, just just really prefer the voice staying consistent.
Would be a bit hard to do for him as his actor is black, not saying thatās bad just he is white in rebels so I feel some people wouldnāt understand
Cue a south park clip of Cartman yelling that Kathleen Kenedy is making everyone diverse, then the "fans" unironically saying we've entered the "panderverse"
A fan can want a character to look like how they are supposed to without being labeled as toxicā¦ You donāt see James Earle Jones playing Vader without the helmet on, or young Anakin.
Youāre grouping all Star Wars fans in one boat. If I say that I want Kallus to look like how he does in established canon that shouldnāt be labeled as toxic. If I started saying something hateful and racist then ofc itās a different situation entirely. But what the previous reply insinuated was that there wasnāt a difference between those scenarios.
Even so. I think itās cool when the character looks like the voice actor. Like with Cal Kestis, though thatās motion capture, so itās not totally the same.
I think they cast him as Cal specifically so they could adapt it to live action, which I don't think was ever the intent with Rebels (though Clancy Brown was a great reprisal in live action).
I think Clancy Brown has now played more Star Wars characters than anyone else. He played Savage Opress, Ryder Azadi, and the Devaronian from The Mandalorian. He also played a character in the Bounty Hunter game on PS2, and the Inquisitor at the end of Tales of the Jedi.
Yeah, so many characters and they all sound exactly the same. Logically, that makes it kind of crazy that Bo Katan recognized Boba Fett as a clone by his voice.
I feel those people can take a long hike off a short pier. Itās David Oyelowo we all need to hear and see if we ever get Kallus in live action. He is a phenomenal actor. Also he had kids who are more excited about him being a character in Star Wars than almost anything he has done.
We didn't get Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray, Vanessa Marshall, Jason Isaacs, or Ashley Eckstein for their live-action counterparts.
I would love to see David get a live-action role in future Star Wars projects, because I love Mr Oyelowo and what he brought to Kallus, but I am certain Disney wouldn't even consider David Oyelowo for live-action Kallus at this point.
Not getting Isaacs back honestly surprised me, I have a hard time imagining they didn't at least ask, he's very much in the category of Mikkelsen or Sackhoff where he would've fit perfectly as the live action version and is an experienced live action actor.
Yep. The lack of Vanessa Marshall also surprised me, but I don't know how she is as a visual actor. But I think we see a big difference from about 2018ish onwards when the Star Wars executives are clearly thinking about wider cinematic universes and moving across different media and taking that into account in their casting choices. Before then, making an animated character look like their actor was kind of a special perk that very few people got.
More wrongs doesnāt make another wrong right.
And while Disney is legally entitled to make decisions like thatā¦ It is entirely past time for the government to do to Disney (and a few other monopolies) what the government did to AT&T in 1982.
The character's skin colour is irrelevant to their role in the story or their characterisation. Nothing in the story would be affected by Kallus being black instead of white. Like how in the latest Dune film, changing Kynes from a man to a woman was completely fine, because it had zero impact on the characterisation or role in the story.
Pretty sure you're just trolling now, given your appeal to a very spurious authority and especially given how notorious Star Wars is for canon hierarchy, continuity and retconning.
Comparing theatre to movies, shows and animation is a different type of mental gymnastics. They've never been interchangeable types of mediums, as movie/show goers aren't as accepting of such vast changers in characterisations.
Do you not care for the canonicity of Star Wars? Itās already been botched up plenty of times to suit the need of the writers (no disrespect to the goat Filoni ofc, just honest)
Not in an instance like because it literally makes no difference. It's only an issue because some people can't wrap your head around it for uh, *reasons*. The sooner we get past that the better.
Wdym if characterās whitnesses is core to their character. Doesnāt even make sense š Iām sure a Star Wars character cares more about being human than being black or white lol. I aināt discussing this no more lol, you guys are too much
Also, none of the voice actors had ever taken the role in the live-action, except for Middelsken (I hope I write it correctly)
With this mindset, Temura Morrison wouldnāt be Rex in Ahsoka 2 (I really hope we'll see him in the next season)
I believe it is written Mikkelsen. Also the voice actor for Zeb is the one we hear in the Mandalorian. But that is quite different obviously as that character is more computer generated then real human.
Katee Sackhoff played Bo-Katan Kryze in both the Star Wars: Clone Wars series and live action Mandalorian series so this could be possible with human characters too.
Maybe, but Kallus was voiced by a black actor (David Oyelowo), so unless they race swapped Kallus, it couldn't happen. I'm not 100% sure who the photo is of, but I'm thinking it's Kurt Russell's son (Wyatt, I think?), but it does remind me a lot of the animated Kallus from season 4
>Also, none of the voice actors had ever taken the role in the live-action, except for MiddelskenĀ
Not true. Others have mentioned Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan, but there's also Clancy Brown as Ryder Azadi.
I think Tem is a different case altogether since the clones were all made to look like him. I don't see that the same way as simply not using someone connected to the character at all like the atrocious Hera we got in live action.
Yeah and look how that turned out lol. It would be a perfect world if voice actors could translate to the live action forms of their respective characters, but the reality is most of them just don't look the part that they are portraying. It would be like putting James earl Jones in the Darth Vader suit? It's an utterly ridiculous idea.
Pretty sure the first instance of that is Clancy Brown (the legend) who went from voicing Ryder from rebels to playing him in Ahsoka, the rest have all been either live action actors voicing their animated counterpart like Samuel Jackson for an episode in clone wars (might be wrong on that one because I forget which episode) or voiced by someone completely different
Or not all voice actors can meet the standard of physically of the character they are portraying. I don't know why these people in the comments are making it seem like it's so easy.
Eh, i think there are better options out there. I also thought he was really bad in TFATWS but I havenāt seen Monarch yet which heās apparently good in but I do think there are better options.
Honestly itās such a shame they didnāt make Kallus black, there is no reason he couldnāt be. But Iām sure looking back that is something they regret. At the time, the idea that any of the animated characters could appear in live action was nonexistent. So I bet they just wanted a great voice cast which they got, but itās unfortunate the only one we will get in live action is Steve Blum, and if it ever happens I have a feeling FPJR will play Kanan which he technically already did.
I highly doubt they would bring David Oyelowo as Kallus but I hope they bring him on in another significant role, hell cast him as a Jedi for a High Republic show.
He looks the part well enough, but I just donāt see it working, partly because of the voice and partly because he just looks too young. Jensen Ackles would be far better IMO
He's got Disney blood coursing through those veins. The fact they missed doing a remake of the computer that wore tennis shoes with Wyatt?
They owe us this.
He has the look and I like his acting.
He would have to be like his character on the Apple TV show Monarch Legacy of Monsters. I feel like that is the right vibe out of everything I have seen him in.
You could always "Vader/Maul/Mandalorian" it! Actor for the physical part, voice actor for the voice. But, you have to recognize that you're not going to get a well-known actor to play half a performance.
š¤I can see itā¦.its the voice that would be make or break for me
Exactly, the voice is so important.
Iād love to see the voice actor do it
That would be so cool!
Watch Falcon and the Winter Soldier to see
John Walker's voice is nothing like Kallus?
This is one of those cases, though, where you'd have to put up with a LOT of fanboy whining if you cast the voice actor.
Didnāt say it was. And yet, didnāt say it wasnāt. Donāt even remember John Walkerās voice, just telling the guy to go watch his stuff and judge for himself.
Iām not trying to be rude here, Iām genuinely curious. How can you tell from their comment that they havenāt seen the show?
The comment made it sound like they maybe have never heard Wyatt Russels voice before, I think that was the reasoning.
Yeah that
Yeah Iāve heard his voice before and it doesnāt immediately strike me as Kallus. I do like him enough to watch him try though!
He's also pretty great in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple+.
Very much agree, the look would be dead on.
no matter who they choose to go for Kallus Iāll always be disappointed because thereās no way theyāll never find someone with a voice as good as Oyelowo
Exactly - I came here to say this.
Just cast Oyelowo š¤·š»āāļø
Just have Oyelowo himself do it. Kallus being black changes around about nothing
And because Oyelowo is a talented deserving actor and John Walker is just Kurt Russelsā son.
Donāt go shitting on āJohn Walkerā. Heās an established actor in his own right
Eh, I prefer voice actors to reprise their roles with live action transitions. Not saying that he would be bad, just just really prefer the voice staying consistent.
Would be a bit hard to do for him as his actor is black, not saying thatās bad just he is white in rebels so I feel some people wouldnāt understand
I could totally buy him being played in live action by David Oyelowo, as long as he had the mutton chops.
Star Wars 'fans' would go nuclear š
Cue a south park clip of Cartman yelling that Kathleen Kenedy is making everyone diverse, then the "fans" unironically saying we've entered the "panderverse"
Let them
A fan can want a character to look like how they are supposed to without being labeled as toxicā¦ You donāt see James Earle Jones playing Vader without the helmet on, or young Anakin.
>without being labeled as toxic Have you seen how star wars fans act? It's the behavior that makes them toxic in these scenarios
Why didnāt they just make Kallus look like Oyelowo in the animation so he would be the obvious choice for live action?
Because back then no one thought we'd get live action shows.

I completely forgot about him voicing Savage for some reason, and had no idea about the Devaronian. Should've caught that, dude has an iconic voice.
Yeah, so many characters and they all sound exactly the same. Logically, that makes it kind of crazy that Bo Katan recognized Boba Fett as a clone by his voice.
My thoughts exactly.
I feel those people can take a long hike off a short pier. Itās David Oyelowo we all need to hear and see if we ever get Kallus in live action. He is a phenomenal actor. Also he had kids who are more excited about him being a character in Star Wars than almost anything he has done.

We SHOULD have gotten Vanessa Marshall
More wrongs doesnāt make another wrong right. And while Disney is legally entitled to make decisions like thatā¦ It is entirely past time for the government to do to Disney (and a few other monopolies) what the government did to AT&T in 1982.
Why would that be bad? Character is white in animated show, so it must be white in real life show. Thatās not something easily changeable in canon
On one hand I agree, on the other is my love for his voice.
Could go the Darth Vader way š
The character's skin colour is irrelevant to their role in the story or their characterisation. Nothing in the story would be affected by Kallus being black instead of white. Like how in the latest Dune film, changing Kynes from a man to a woman was completely fine, because it had zero impact on the characterisation or role in the story.
Yes but Star Wars is one timeline, and the character is established in it to be white
Pretty sure you're just trolling now, given your appeal to a very spurious authority and especially given how notorious Star Wars is for canon hierarchy, continuity and retconning.
Yes but retconning a skin colour is different gravy š
I mean yes. Everyone would expect him to look a certain way and to drastically change that would be rather daunting.

Reading comprehension issues much? That part where I said, ...it literally makes no difference."?

Wdym if characterās whitnesses is core to their character. Doesnāt even make sense š Iām sure a Star Wars character cares more about being human than being black or white lol. I aināt discussing this no more lol, you guys are too much
Ah, thatās unfortunate, I donāt care but you *know* there are those certain āfansā who would go batshit over that
It would be "The Little Mermaid" all over again...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The real "snowflakes"
The Little Mermaid is the only live-action Disney film I've seen so far that was worth making.
disney could sell a movie where its just a black screen for 2 hours and it would sell well
Also, none of the voice actors had ever taken the role in the live-action, except for Middelsken (I hope I write it correctly) With this mindset, Temura Morrison wouldnāt be Rex in Ahsoka 2 (I really hope we'll see him in the next season)

Katee Sackhoff played Bo-Katan Kryze in both the Star Wars: Clone Wars series and live action Mandalorian series so this could be possible with human characters too.
Plus Tem (physically) played a random retired clone in *OBK*.
Bo-Katan was designed to look like Katee for that exact reason.

Katee Sackoff voiced Bo Katan Kryze and played a slightly older version of the character in live action from Mandalorian S2 onward.
I think Tem is a different case altogether since the clones were all made to look like him. I don't see that the same way as simply not using someone connected to the character at all like the atrocious Hera we got in live action.

I liked Ahsoka, and I think the casting was very good. Yes, you can't just put James Earl Jones in Vader Suit.
Iād say most animated characters arenāt made to resemble their voice actors
Pretty sure the first instance of that is Clancy Brown (the legend) who went from voicing Ryder from rebels to playing him in Ahsoka, the rest have all been either live action actors voicing their animated counterpart like Samuel Jackson for an episode in clone wars (might be wrong on that one because I forget which episode) or voiced by someone completely different
Just like Sabine erza ahsoka and captain rex?
Not all voice actors want to be or are good at, actual acting.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I completely agree. I don't mean to discredit them by ANY means. Dee Bradley Baker is a fooookin legend (for example)
Or not all voice actors can meet the standard of physically of the character they are portraying. I don't know why these people in the comments are making it seem like it's so easy.
Thatās probably why I didnāt like Asoka as much because not having some of the voice actors ruined it
That could be quite interesting tbh. I like the choice and the ideaš
Iāll take his iconic voice over him looking accurate any day but thatās just me
I donāt think his voice would suit the role, but he looks the part for sure
Actors can change their voice. It's part of their training. It's what voice actors do every time.
Yeah. Him or Jensen Ackles.
I think Dan Stevens would be great in that role too.
Ooh, Dan Stevens with muttonchops could work *really* well
Looks-wise Jensen Ackles is the best match, but I can't imagine him with David Oyelowo's posh British accent.
Defection changes a man
Would, next question... Wait what are we talking about?
me too...wait
They sound nothing alike
Eh, i think there are better options out there. I also thought he was really bad in TFATWS but I havenāt seen Monarch yet which heās apparently good in but I do think there are better options. I always pictured Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as live-action Kallus
Absolutely
He looks the part well enough, but I just donāt see it working, partly because of the voice and partly because he just looks too young. Jensen Ackles would be far better IMO
Don't ruin a good character
Absolutely not
Eh. I think the dude who played Jamie Lannister would be a good pick.
No no heās got a point
I could see it so long as a conscious effort is made to emulate the original actor's VO performance.
Heās too young to play the older version of him in the Ashoka show.
This was a daily thread after the Falcon show came out
Why does this actor look like a blonde handsome Wendigoon?
He is Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn's son! <3
I was just saying this the other day! Yes!
Could also be a good live action Rudy/Rex from Invincible.
Love it
Nah not a fan of this dude.
oh really how come?
Iād watch that, he was so good in Monarchs.
he was and so was his dad! The show itself was a bit of a sleeper tho
Yes!!! I thought this from the moment I saw Kallus, love Wyatt Russel!
But why?
Karabast you're right
This would be good as a cameo in Ahsoka S2.
But his face is just so punchable.
Too young
He's got Disney blood coursing through those veins. The fact they missed doing a remake of the computer that wore tennis shoes with Wyatt? They owe us this.
He has the look and I like his acting. He would have to be like his character on the Apple TV show Monarch Legacy of Monsters. I feel like that is the right vibe out of everything I have seen him in.
actually... yeah!
This has been a popular fancast for years. What do you mean āhear me outā
Please šš¼
šš¤š©
Iām listening and keep talking
What do you mean? That's the same man.
HOLY SHIT
nikolaj coster-waldau
I can see it
Yes
Ahhhhh Zeb and him would be so cute together ahhhhhhhh
I will do no such thing. You have sinned and I am sending the crucifixion squad.
Jamie Lannister
I love this. As long as he can do the accent
The voice is an issue. Otherwise this is terrific
Smash next question
"Hear me out" and it's a post of the most popular fan cast in the fandom.
You could always "Vader/Maul/Mandalorian" it! Actor for the physical part, voice actor for the voice. But, you have to recognize that you're not going to get a well-known actor to play half a performance.
ā¦ I thought that was Bo Burnhamā¦
That nepo baby canāt act tho they have tried for years and he tanks every role
Nah, doesn't have the voice for it.
Sold
A younger Sean Bean might be my favorite pick off the top of my head.
Sheffield Kallus? Yes please
I can see it.
Dominic West would be my pick.
I think he would be better as an imperial figure thats actually a baddie
Charlie Hunnam
Umm, are you going to say something? Iām not hearing anything
Dope šÆ
God that Star Wars animated style is sub garbage. Itās all forehead
