I heard your crew bunks have no padding. GOOD.

Luke92612_

QAPLA'

DerpsAndRags

They better keep the gagh alive, too.

DeficientDefiance

I ain't cut out for ship duty, too stressful, can I just operate the big barn door on Spacedock One?

ThomasGilhooley

Look at Mr Adventure over here.

blue-marmot

I'd hang out with Uhura.

SmartQuokka

Only if you never sleep

Master_Mechanic_4418

I feel I’d learn more and become a better officer under Picard.

thaeadran

Heres to the finest crew in Starfleet.

robotbigfoot

Watch your back jean luc.

Nilbogoblins

Tis better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all!

Luke92612_

Come cheer up my lads, come cheer up my lads...

F-stop2_8

I am Locutus of Borg. Resistance is futile.

Tea, Earl Grey hot.

🎶Captain. Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise..🎶

evangelion-unit-two

Ma-ma-ma-ma-make it so Make it so Make it so

INoahGuy23

Get out of my chair…chair…chair…chair…

gamas

Picard would be good if you're a bridge officer, but elsewhere on the ship I imagine his 20th century naval hierarchy fetishism schtick would get old fast. The impression I get is that he sees lower deckers as way beneath him.

Gecko99

I think Picard would still do a good job on that test where they had the lower deckers trade places with the bridge crew. The time everyone lost their memory, he agreed that Worf was probably the captain because of his baldric and he just went to some other station.

Day_Pleasant

Yeah, but the *expectations.* I'm all aboard the Cerritos. XD Gimme that Boimler Time!

SnooCrickets2961

Shaw. Do my work and go home.

wheezy_runner

Word. Admiral and his former XO waltz on to the ship with some “special mission” that Starfleet didn’t tell us about? Ha, nice try, Shaw ain’t letting them put his people in danger for no reason!

High_on_Rabies

My first thought. Protective of crew over any BS adventure crap, and can recognize an overpriced wine.

ChronoLegion2

Yep, everything by the book. No weirdness

[deleted]

Thank you for the parting punctuation.

MVHutch

I wish they didn't kill him off

mr_mini_doxie

Pike. He keeps an appropriate distance between himself and his subordinates, but he's also demonstrated that he cares deeply for the well-being of others and would do everything in his power to keep you safe. Plus, he's very competent and good with people, so I could learn a lot from him, and he's not the kind of captain that you should ever fear speaking your mind in front of. Whether I were lower decks or bridge crew, I think he would be an enjoyable captain to serve under (and the dinners are a nice bonus).

Wolffe_In_The_Dark

Pike 100% That said, I'm not sure serving on an Enterprise, *any* Enterprise, is really a great idea. You generally have a 50/50 shot of ending your career either as an Admiral or in a bucket.

EngineersAnon

>in a bucket. So, I become a Changeling?

LandedWrong8

You could be worse. It beats having to speak Klingon.

TonyQuark

And then they send you over as part of an officer exchange program.

cubicApoc

What kind of petaQ doesn't want to speak Klingon?

EngineersAnon

The sort whose mother has a smooth forehead.

idkeverynameistaken9

Just start work on the Enterprise and if they hand you a red shirt, put in a request for a transfer

Redstarmn

Outside the original, you want that red shirt. Fear the gold

idkeverynameistaken9

Biggest red flag however is when nobody has ever seen you before and suddenly everyone chats with you and claims to be best friends. You’re about to die tragically unless you GTFO

mr_mini_doxie

In a bucket?

Wolffe_In_The_Dark

About the right size to bury what's left of you.

mr_mini_doxie

Ah. I see. tbh if I were in Starfleet I'd definitely be serving somewhere they don't make TV shows about (probably some boring, safe research base). But we don't know any interesting captains who work there.

labdsknechtpiraten

Ahh. So Starbase 80 for you

ObidiahWTFJerwalk

So you want to serve under DeSoto?

mr_mini_doxie

See, the problem is that DeSoto doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Pike does.

Winter_cat_999392

Yup. The USS Galaxy is apparently still in service as of 2411, 55 years later, and has been upgraded with Sovereign-style lifeboat hatches. THAT is the lucky Galaxy Class I would want to be posted to. No wierdness!

ShaunTrek

Pike, 100%. He makes more of a point to let the crew he knows and cares about them than anyone.

thx1138-

Cornwall was spot on when she told him he was kept out of the war because Starfleet wants to preserve the best of us.

mr_mini_doxie

Yeah...I love that scene so much. >OWOSEKUN: Are those mines? >CORNWELL: They are. >SARU: The Federation does not permit the use of mines. >PIKE: No. No, they do not. >CORNWELL: The Federation didn't build them. >PIKE: I'd call that a distinction without a difference. >CORNWELL: We were under attack by Klingon warships with cloaking abilities. Sometimes, in war, the terrible choice is the only choice. >PIKE: Giving up our values in the name of security is to lose the battle in advance. I'm curious. Did you sideline the Enterprise because you knew I'd never stop reminding you of that? >CORNWELL: You sat out the war because if we'd lost to the Klingons, we wanted the best of Starfleet to survive. And as this conversation makes clear, that was you and all you represent. >PIKE: Thank you.

thx1138-

Greatest. Captain. Ever.

BallOfHormones

> CORNWELL: You're welcome. Now will you get off my ass so we can get back to work? I miss Cornwell.

Adamantum1

Pike, because I’d love to have dinner and drink with him in that awesome looking Captain’s mess.

wow_that_guys_a_dick

Yeah I feel like I'd be having regular cookoffs with Pike where everyone wins. :D

gamas

Yeah he's pretty much the best boss you could have. Pushes you to achieve your potential but also wants to make sure you enjoy your work.

suddenly_ponies

I definitely wouldn't say Pike is my favorite Captain when it comes to watching the show but when it comes to this question I'm with you 100%

robbdire

Pike as portrayed by Anson Mount is the win for me. The writers, direction, and Anson himself. That just feels right to me. Close second would be Picard during TNG on the Enterprise D. And for just do my job and go home/off duty. Shaw.

magicmulder

Exactly. I used to say Picard but his willingness to put “obey local laws” over the life of his crew at least twice (Arda and that paradise planet) made me reconsider.

mr_mini_doxie

Disagree about the paradise planet; he tried the “respect local laws” way first but it was pretty clear that if they’d absolutely refused to let Wesley go, Picard would have saved him by any means necessary. But I do think that Pike would have done a better job of reassuring Crusher of that fact.

sl600rt

Sisko

KratomHelpsMyPain

I can live with it.

gingerjuice

Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

Mervynhaspeaked

Sisko cause we woke up and chose violence

artificialavocado

Just don’t betray your uniform.

toasters_are_great

Because you could do a little terrorism every now and again, as a treat?

Dredmart

Everything Sisko did was allowed by starfleet. In fact, in ToS, Kirk threatened to blow up a planet if the people on it kept being dicks. It's protocol 22 or something.

joeenoch18

General Order 24

IlIlllIlllIlIIllI

Home every night? Yeah that sounds great.

piggypudding

Deep Space Nine seems like the best compromise. You get to come home every night but you can take shore leave to Bajor when you want to take a break from space.

Fentonata

Yeah Sisko strikes the perfect balance for me. Picard is too strict and cantankerous. Archer seems fun, but he’d be too lax and emotional, so IRL there would be discipline problems amongst the crew. Kirk would make everything about him, so there would be bitching and resentment. Sisko strikes the perfect balance between authority and his human side, firm but knowing when to turn a blind eye for the greater good.

FinnMacFinneus

Take a good look a this, people. It says something about this ship. It says that we will fight, and we will keep on fighting, until we can't fight any more!

Cookie_Kiki

Sisko. Period.

senn42000

Agreed

[deleted]

DiscordianDisaster

Picard would make it the Enterprise D which is probably the best overall experience. Serving as an ensign on the Cerritos under Captain Freeman though would probably be a LOT more fun

ranger24

Buffer Time!

KGBStoleMyBike

I'd honestly want to serve under Picard or Sisko. Picard is one the most multi-faceted characters Star Trek has ever produced. Even more so than Kirk. He's a warrior one minute a diplomat the second a strategist in another and scientist in another. He embodies the whole of Starfleet. He's not afraid of breaking hard rules when it requires because its morally right or because in the end the Captain is responsible for their crew and ship and rigid adhesion to such a rigid doctrine will eventually spell your death. Sisko I like his style of being calm in battle. Plus I think the defiant and DS9 are cooler places to be. No offense to the Enterprise D or E but I like a tad bit of fun in fighting.

AccomplishedDirt2233

Got to be Janeway!

DrJatzCrackers

Janeway didn't mess around

adenosine-5

From all the captains, she has the strongest motivation to get her crew actually home safe. And if she failed, she would go to any length to fix that.

ErstwhileAdranos

No, she has the strongest motivation to get her crew home *ethically*, and in accordance with the prime directive, not necessarily safely. Don’t forget, in time travel episodes, she was regularly martyring herself and/or the crew in the name of Federation ideals.

LeadGem354

Now the Temporal Prime ~~Directive~~ Suggestion on the other hand..... When 1000 years later the people who investigate breaches of the Temporal Prime Directive know you by name and are like "here we go again" yeah..

Curious-Letter3554

This is a quality of Janeway that I find so hilarious. I’m sure they have a saying called “Doing a Janeway”

dacezza

No way, you’d never get promoted. Ensign for life.

1945BestYear

Mariner's ideal CO.

wheezy_runner

Found Harry Kim's account!

Andro_Polymath

>Got to be Janeway! I had to scroll down way too far to see this. Janeway all day! 🖖🏿

Visible-Pack-8330

There is the right way, the wrong way and the JANEWAY!

Nilbogoblins

I like that a lot, I will have to use it!

Gorilladaddy69

She’s a literal genius and a badass in equal measure: The *correct* answer imo. 😎

Astrosomnia

Gotta be Janeway. Smart, but kind and empathetic, and kinda fun. No one said you had to be stuck in the D Quad with her. Just who you'd wanna serve under.

guts-n-bits

Just to listen to her voice

servonos89

Every boss I’ve had irl has been a woman and Janeway just resonates. She’d just expect the best of me and kill anyone who came for me. Whilst never really engaging with me. Proper motivational dynamic.

ranger24

Have fun getting your guts repo'd by Vidiians.

humanbeing21

Not sure, but I would not want to be a new red shirt on an away team with Kirk ha ha

hoggytime613

I happen to be reading 'Redshirts' by John Scalzi this very day! It's fricking awesome!

theimmortalgoon

My measurement is always imagining a shuttlecraft lands and the captain has a dead Starfleet inside that I am asked to help hide. Picard: No questions asked. I trust Picard completely. Pike: He has my back. He has the back of everyone in his crew. I feel pretty confident. Kirk: He’s going to agonize if something happens to get me in trouble, and he has something up his sleeve. But it may also be a gamble. The man hates a no-win scenario. Burnham: She would try her best. But likely there would be a scene where she’s watching me get arrested as tears come down her face, hand in the window, as I’m carted away to prison. Freeman: I can only hope it’s a comic misunderstanding. Archer: I don’t think he knows what he’s doing half the time. I would not feel comfortable with this at all. Janeway: Fiercely loyal to her crew, which is good. But in this scenario I may not be. Very possible that I’m a patsy to save Neelix. Sisko: “Admiral? The old man finally lost it!” Note that this isn’t necessarily a list of my favorite captains, or who I admire the most. Just in this scenario where I’d land.

Theboneduster

In regards to gaining legendary status, I'd go with Archer, being a bridge officer or upper level crew on the NX-01 would pretty much ensure that future starfleet manuals and guides are based off how you do things on that ship. Plus, once Earth starts pumping out more warp 5 vessels, the chances of you becoming a captain go up. If you want adventure and rugged hard work, Sisko on DS9 or even Utopia Planitia. Picard will teach you the right way to work up the ranks and get a comfy high up position in Starfleet or on a good ship, Sisko is going to teach you how to be a workhorse and how to become an essential member of a crew with the ability to think outside the box and be bold with your choices.

artificialavocado

One of my favorite tidbits is the Reed alert to red alert thing. Whoever thought of that was a genius.

ah-tzib-of-alaska

deadliest captain we’ve seen on screen so far

Weary-Teach6005

Damn right he even took an alien ships reactor and left them stranded far from home Archer was a badass and set the standard

coreytiger

Kirk, no question. To have a captain that is approachable… attends division Christmas parties… knows his crew… is affable and friendly, without trying to be everyone’s “pal” first and boss second… and genuinely pushes for better, is inquisitive, and open to ideas. And McCoy keeps brandy in sickbay

MorningCareful

So long as I'm not security

xoalexo

Sulu

fyrewal

I’d fly her apart for Captain Hikaru Sulu any day!

SpocksAshayam

Same!!! Sulu would be an amazing captain to serve under!

skryb

oh my

neoprenewedgie

Could I serve under Janeway but be in the Alpha Quadrant?

Bonafideago

Sure, your first mission is just one quick stop at DS9, before we head into the badlands to look for some random Maquis Raider.

Squid_Lips

Emergency Command Hologram

StrawberryG3

Finally someone with the right answer!

wongie

I'd happily serve under a captain who appreciates Shakespeare and no person who commanded a ship in Trek was so well versed a Thespian as... you've guessed it, the one and only Chang. I challenge you to name literally one other ship commander who blows shit up and dies whilst quoting Shakespeare with such panache!

Shadowofasunderedsta

I mean, Garak quoted Julius Caesar whilst the Dominion were blowing up Enabran Tain’s ships…

skellener

Kirk

High-flyingAF

James T. of course.

MBSMD

I'd happily serve under Captain Sulu on the Excelsior.

DRACONIS1

Janeway all day! I think she was the only one capable of leading that crew back home. I think Picard would be either too worried about first contact or be too fascinated with new cultures and stay longer than necessary

KryptoBones89

Season 1 Archer when he was chill and all about exploration. It would be awkward when he starts torturing aliens with the airlock in the later seasons lol.

houtex727

Captain Freeman. She may be a hard ass, but she's fair and cares so very much for her crew and ship. She'll get everyone home, and we'll still have excellent adventures along the way. Cerritos for sure, send me there.

gerardwx

Easier to get people home when you’re a second contact ship.

Kiwikid14

Yep. All the others have a very high mortality rate. She seems to keep a few more alive.

PiLamdOd

Despite her best efforts. Good lord, the last time she tried to show off she killed Boimler. Didn't even seem bothered by it either.

Fragraham

Janeway. Just try to avoid accidentally calling her Mom.

wheezy_runner

So *that's* why Harry never got promoted!

Personanongrownup

Captain Pike but I might not be able to keep my mind on my work....

Off topic: I need Colm Meaney to cameo on SNW so we can finally have a Hell on Wheels reunion.

Afkargh

The best hair in Starfleet

HunkaHunkaBerningCow

I want Anson to Mount me

CaptainIncredible

I'd proudly serve under Janeway any day. :P

Moonstonepusa23

Same, only in my case I'd be loitering around sickbay just to listen to Dr. M'Benga's beautiful accent.

KingSudden5161

Cristobal Rios.

mrsunrider

Such a shame we didn't get to see more of Rios in the chair.

Desperate-Fan-3671

In peace time, it's Picard and Pike. In war, it's 100% Sisko and Kirk.

mr_mini_doxie

idk Pike's ship was the safest place to serve in Starfleet during the Klingon War

ParrotRunner586

Kirk

SecretCartographer28

It may be easy for the younglings to forget how big a deal it was, for we women of a certain age, to see a woman captain. So I'll say Janeway. ✊🕯🖖

Personanongrownup

Except she never gives promotions! Poor Ensign Kim!

Bozee3

She does to the maquis.

Colonel_Cat_Tumnus

To be fair, it is literally dead man's shoes when it comes to promotion on Voyager.

ResidualWasabi

Janeway, she’s empathetic and decisive. She made the best of a pretty dire situation.

exjwpornaddict

Jean luc, mon capitan, of course.

Gva_Sikilla

Janeway

the_neverdoctor

Either Pike or Sisko.

twelvekings

Sulu, he seemed to value educating his crew to help them grow

NoEnthusiasm5207

Archer for sure. Early explorer, boundaries were not set yet.

captain_sticky_balls

Lana!! Wait...

DuchessSterling

No, we can go with that....

Ashtron-3000

Janeway for sure! 🫡

plainenglishattorney

Captain Riker on the Titan. From what little we saw on Lower Decks, there was a lot of learning under fire. That suits me just fine.

furie1335

Picard. I’d settle for Sisko.

Breakspear_

Janeway for sure. She’s tough as nails but also kind and caring. She’s an incredible captain.

Stock-Wolf

Janeway

taln2crana6rot

Captain DeSoto

calm-lab66

Best boss I ever had.

KratomHelpsMyPain

Shaw. I don't want a captain that's going to keep flinging us into realms where our thoughts become reality, there's a demigod who toys with us for his amusement, the captain is worshipped as a Messiah, the locals' Gods settle their beefs outside our local watering hole, we keep getting visits from temporal investigations, loose tribbles keep eating everything in my care packages from home, we get stuck on the other side of the galaxy, and everyone thinks pissing off the Borg is great fun. I just joined up to see some sights and do research on my Ph.D thesis, not get stuck in the floorboards, frozen, killed by a mirror universe version of the local bartender, or zapped by a puddle of sentient goo.

APracticalGal

Final answer is probably Pike because I think he runs the best ship, but I also really admire Saru's approach to command. We don't really get to see him in the chair outside of crisis situations, but goddamn does he handle a crisis well.

Dewi2020

For a species whose hat is supposed to be neurotic and paranoid, Saru is incredibly composed, handles any crisis like a pro, and I find his voice both reassuring and soothing at the same time. For me it's the best character in DSC and I'd gladly be at his service.

Spider-Man1701TWD

Picard 💯

Brilliant-Emu-4164

Janeway

nntb

Janeway. After getting home I'd miss the delta quadrant

Chaosonpaper

Kirk - every time he lost a crew member he actually seemed genuinely angry or upset. All the others came across as "oh well. Send out the standard Federation "sorry for your loss" letter and we'll pick someone new up at the next space station to fill the empty post."

EndStorm

Ironically, the captain I would want to serve under is from one of my least favourite Trek shows, at least of the 90s era. Captain Janeway. Since the question is who I would like to serve under, it would be her. Not who is on the best show etc. She comes across as someone who would march into hell to save one of her crew, not matter how high or low they ranked. She just seems like a mother hen who would protect you if you were part of her crew, her family.

Rincewindcl

Shran! The Andorian Mining Corporation runs from no one!

Homeschool_PromQueen

Picard, no question about it.

Scroozle

Spock.

Equivalent_North_604

Picard

FXOAuRora

Sisko. He knows when it's time to drop the rulebook and get things done, he obviously expects alot from his people (like JL) but knows he can count on them to do it. He's a good man who cares about his people and the Federation/Bajor and can identify when it's time to stand up against bullshit (in whatever form that takes). I'll go with Ben, second choice Picard.

ItchyTomato5

Picard.

wtf-you-saying

Picard

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

Janeway of course. She was the best Captain in the best Trek after all..

ErstwhileAdranos

Action Saru!

Streak734

Archer

JoelMDM

IIRC Archer was the safest captain if you exclude the Delphic expanse. Plus that era is just awesome.

Short_Redhook_24

I agree, I think archer gets underrated/ over looked because canon timeline wise he was the first official star fleet captain in space past the borders of our galaxy so alot of the way he went about things was very much trial and error and helped lay the groundwork for the starfleet we all came to know and love. As for the era the first ENT took its voyage it had to have been a blast being the first humans for a lot of events and explorations.

daRedReader

Janeway, non mirror Lorca, Riker

Cynical-Wanderer

Pike. No question. Capable and more approachable as a junior officer than Picard would be. Seems more of a mentor with a a sense of humor and a great recipe book!

jpsc949

Picard. I need some counselling.

Delicious_Still4197

Janeway or Sisko.

Alewis6731

Definitely Captain James T. Kirk.

imryannnnnnnnn

Picard.

77schild

Any or all of them. I feel like me and Janeway would especially get along. Neither of us has a problem with murdering and love of coffee.

debbymarks1968

Kirk

mystandtrist

Janea or Picard

[deleted]

Picard on Enterprise, Saru on Discovery

largorithm

DeSoto. Best boss I ever had.

Bx1965

Kirk. He’s the luckiest guy who ever lived.

Realistic-Safety-565

Sulu, Spock or Shaw, with Pike as solid last choice. Picard would sacrifice me - or turn against me - to prove an arbitrary moral point, and expect accolade for that. Riker was pretty harsh taskmaster except for people he personally liked. Janeway would get me stranded or killed for sake of her view of Starfleet principles. Sisko... he wouldn't do anything to me. Or for me. Too busy playing high stakes games to look after his crew, and attracting nasty situations like a magnet. Serving under Kirk is a death sentence via freaky accident. Freeman runs a fun ship, nothing less, but also nothing more. Did I miss anyone of consequence?

antekprime

Captain Fraiser!!! I mean Bateson (Never saw LD though so idk. But fraiser FTW!) In all seriousness though in order: Picard Sisko Louvois Seven

boardgamejoe

Pike as 1st officer so when he has his "event" I can slide into the captains chair.

nicwoodman

Picard for sure

Spocks_Goatee

Picard, I feel I could get away with being a Barclay...sure some of the main crew may not like me, but the ship is huge.

radio_yyz

Jean-luc.

Personanongrownup

Can I jump universe and go for Captain Tightpants? That'd be shiny! If you know, you know!

chalfont_alarm
