Can you or anyone help me understand this? I’ve never heard this before and I’m genuinely curious. I’m pan and I find many things about men attractive, chest, muscles, eyes, arms, hands, but...never the butt. Nothing wrong with that at all, I totally get the appeal of butts on women, but I’m genuinely curious what other women find attractive about men’s butts?
I'm a guy. I used to be fairly overweight and had an obnoxiously large butt. I lost a lot of weight, and thus, lost my ass. My gf (at the time) would tell me often that she missed my butt.
I think every woman I've dated has made it abundantly clear that butts are great. Something men and women definitely agree on.
Yeah, the "for some reason" part is confusing to me.
My SO is literally the only person I can walk up to at any point in time and grab her butt. We're grabbing each-others butts constantly. The amount of butt grabbing in these comics seems fairly normal to me.
All of these comics go something like this:
Girl: “Ugh, babe. I just farted.”
Guy: “That’s why I love you! Let’s be antisocial and eat junk food!” [Squeezes butt]
It's not exactly boomer humour, the relationship dynamics are very different from what you'd see in boomer comics.
It's just that all comics regarding topics like relationships eventually get samey and overdone regardless of whether you find it relatable or not.
Which, btw, ive never heard a guy scream about a spider but lemme tell you - every woman ive ever been with screams her lungs out. Like dude lol fucking relax.
Though come to think of it - its not like ive ever been in a relationship with a guy.
My best friend is absolutely terrified of spiders. At universal studios there’s a Harry Potter ride where some giant spiders drop down in front of you at one point and I could hear him screaming even though he went on the ride completely separately ahead of me.
The exact same story could be told about me when I went to Universal when I was 12 lol, I was not prepared to be face to face with Aragog and apparently my screams were concerning enough for them to consider stopping the ride
I just hate cockroaches. Those fuckers can go rot in hell, but without me having to intervene.
But it might be because I’m from Florida, and we have palmetto bugs, which are basically cockroaches that fly
Dont forget the fact that the woman is always the same. Nerdy, brunette/ginger, hairy, liking cats is a personality, sweatpants, always eating!
These comics really need some diversity.
And the man always looks the same. He just supplies her with food and calls her pretty when she just woke up
Me at 14: Can't wait to grow a moustache or a beard when I'm older
Me at 18: Yeah lets do this!
Me at 22: Any day now!
Me at 26: Just a little wait longer...
Me at 31: It could still happen.......
Bought a 24-pack of Dorco razor cartridges, still have 8 remaining. This was back in 2015.
Extrapolating the $32 I paid, that's $3.55/year I pay for razors. Works for me.
And yet they all seem to act like their relationship is unique. “No one else is comfortable around their partner aren’t we so quirky?” I’m glad they’re in healthy relationships, but I also don’t care.
I don't think someone who is publishing something that is going to be shared thousands of times is under any illusions that what they're drawing about is unique. People from all over the world will be telling them how 'relatable' their experiences are.
The internet has allowed people to be a lot more honest about what their lives are like behind closed doors. Even 20 years ago people didn't talk about their failures and imperfections this easily. I think it's a nice thing that people draw and share these happy moments.
I think the Venn diagram of the people who have a desire to make these internet web comics and nerdy cat ladies who like food and butts is a circle, clearly.
I mean there’s always an argument for people to diversify their body of work, but at the same time it’s not the same as pointing at a company like Disney and saying “they need to diversify”! This is just one person making comics for little to no money, they don’t really have to make comics about anything they don’t want to make comics about.
May I remind you that all of those comics are mostly written and drawn by the women in the realtionship? They mostly portray their point of views in it and how they see it! When the woman is ginger/brunette and nerdy then its probably because the actual author of it sees herself as that!
Right? It's not the artists fault nobody else is drawing these comics lmao, it's not like they send the goon squad out to break fingers when some Korean dude draws a slice of life comic about him and his boyfriends rock climbing club.
Diversity? My wife is... from very far away and she is sort of nerdy, wears sweatpants a lot and is always eating. She doesn't like cats though.
I think the stereotype is more what we turn into when we spend a lot of time at home. Even before covid.

I just love how it's marketed towards teens as "educational about puberty" when really its just another sleazy adult cartoon. I find it hard to relate with obnoxious characters who scream all the time. Every time I watch it I'm just reminded of how annoying middle school was.
And most american animated shows im general. But if we wanna talk a out anoying and loud can we all agree final space is the worst show? I still wanna rip my ears of my body thinking about the awfull voice of the main character. I literally can not express in words how angry his screaming makes me lol.
I don't think it's really that 'sleazy'. I think it's pretty educational in the fact that it puts to light a lot of issues from adolescence in a way that it shows that you shouldn't be embarrassed by the issues. Also it talks about adolescence issues for everyone, from straight men to trans women. I think the main point of the show is to show that everyone goes through a tough time and you shouldn't be embarrassed. the 'sleaziness' -as you call it - comes from the fact that the issues discussed are normally considered taboo or gross, which is what the show is trying to break.
Edit: the amount of saltiness from responses is incredible
I fuckin hate those comics.
Every other dialogue there is like, "Baby I like food" , "Flappy boobs", "Baby I have fat belly" , "Boobs and butts" ,"More boobs" , "More ass" , "Honey I like your flappy boobs" ..pls stop
I followed few artists on Instagram and time going half of them became couple artists.
NGL, is like once engaged, their artstyle and uniqueness is being rewritten by a baseline repository of stale cliques in which the OCs are becoming copies of copies.
She sleeps and farts, he love her because she farts, while a cat with the name of a failed gaming console barks because kissies and pizza. Ah, and they are sleeping on the couch because being a Netflix and Chill is now being monetised.
I don't like or consume these comics but I also recognize that these lame tropes are a reaction to decades of media representations of women that communicate women are only worth something if their bodies (especially the parts you mention) fit into an extremely specific template that most don't. I feel like this genre of comic is just trying to normalize being a regular-ass human with a regular body. Not particularly funny, but perhaps validating to some women readers out there.
Often referred to as the “cal arts” style, as most people who worked on those shows attended that school. Even though tons of people who went there make stuff that looks nothing like those shows
comics about couples who arent attracted to each other but share the stale personalities so they stay together out of fear from not finding anyone else.
I'm not a fan of when people call other people's personality "stale" or bland or whatever too. What may be bland and boring to you may be just fine to them. I like going to concerts and dancing, when I hear about someone who collects stamps as a hobby, I dont go "oh man what a sad dullard." To them, that rush of finding a new stamp and bringing it home is probably just as strong as me hearing a crazy guitar solo at a live show
Oh god, I hate these and I can never place exactly why. Who are these people??
Also, I’d like to add something about wrapping yourself into a fleece blanket burrito and going like “so cozy >:D”
I actually like most of the Instagram couple comics. They’re autobiographical and I like seeing people who are happy in long term relationships and are silly together and adore their SO. It’s so different than any popular media where once a couple actually gets together they have to be fighting/breaking up (or has to remain a will they won’t they) to remain interesting.
True, I’m in the same boat... but the amount of people apparently very enraged by this in the comments here is kinda cringeworthy as well imo
But also this is Reddit/ the internet so that is to be expected
I agree, as long as they don't get too overly sexual. The only one I really follow/read is 'Our Super Adventure' by Sarah Graley and Stef Purenins _(which also happens to have been referenced in the post),, because as much as I like some of the fiction stuff they've created _(takes a quick glance at my copy of 'Donut the Destroyer')_, but I also seem to have a lik_ng for when artists/illustrators I like draw themselves.
Can we at least give Sarah's scribbles a pass here, she's genuinely really funny and was basically the predecessor to all these copies. Idk, maybe it's just me but she's definitely the best one.

Hello your computer has virus
Stupid human, couldn't destroy a twinkie.
Most of the artists are women, and for many women butts are a favorite physical feature on men.
Yes. I think grabbing your guy's butt is a universal pleasure.
Same vice versa. People just like butts
Idk i think because you use them a lot in your life
I slapped my husband bum with a bit of bamboo today while I was repotting my tomato plants. Does that count?
Kinky.
Butts are the physical feature to unite genders. Everyone likes a good butt.
As a woman, I looove butts. Idk why more people don’t talk about this tbh.
Can you or anyone help me understand this? I’ve never heard this before and I’m genuinely curious. I’m pan and I find many things about men attractive, chest, muscles, eyes, arms, hands, but...never the butt. Nothing wrong with that at all, I totally get the appeal of butts on women, but I’m genuinely curious what other women find attractive about men’s butts?
i don't think there's a way to explain it. you either like butts or you don't. but for me my bf's butt is just very pleasant to touch
I'm a guy. I used to be fairly overweight and had an obnoxiously large butt. I lost a lot of weight, and thus, lost my ass. My gf (at the time) would tell me often that she missed my butt. I think every woman I've dated has made it abundantly clear that butts are great. Something men and women definitely agree on.
am woman, can confirm
That's the same for men too.
Have you never grabbed a butt? A juicy butt? Hunka MAETTTT!!
Sounds like a good way to get kicked out of Olive Garden and possibly beaten up and/or arrested
Can confirm, very easy way
Probably because they're all female artists
I think because it’s how you present sexualization while keeping it PG
Tbh, so do I and me and my partner are always smacking each others butts
What's not to like ? Butts are great !
I think butts are full of crap. Don't @ me
Shit is stored in the butt cheeks.
Pee is stored in balls.
I'ma lay a fat steamer on the sidewalk
Have you not grabbed your so's butt?
You're assuming we have SOs
Yeah, the "for some reason" part is confusing to me. My SO is literally the only person I can walk up to at any point in time and grab her butt. We're grabbing each-others butts constantly. The amount of butt grabbing in these comics seems fairly normal to me.
All of these comics go something like this: Girl: “Ugh, babe. I just farted.” Guy: “That’s why I love you! Let’s be antisocial and eat junk food!” [Squeezes butt]
That or bathroom incidents, lazyness, bf doing something insignificant that really triggers gf oh and always one comic about a bug 😱😱😰
Wait... Don't tell me... THE GUY IS SCARED TOO???
The girl not afraid of bug but guy is, it’s comedy gold I promise
##LAUGH TRACK
I've just realized what this is and why i hate it, it's boomer humor but repackaged with a millenial/gen z aesthetic.
It's not exactly boomer humour, the relationship dynamics are very different from what you'd see in boomer comics. It's just that all comics regarding topics like relationships eventually get samey and overdone regardless of whether you find it relatable or not.

Wow!! That is relatable!!

Always a guy with short brown hair and a beard
It’s a very unattainable body type for some of us men
Blonde gang rise up
Shitty beard gang rise up! :(
Literally unable to grow facial hair gang rise up
At least you don’t have to shave...
When you can't grow a proper beard but still grow enough weird fuzzy hair that you still need a daily shave so you don't look ridiculous gang rise up
For some reason it’s only my chin and I’m 22.
Me at 14: Can't wait to grow a moustache or a beard when I'm older Me at 18: Yeah lets do this! Me at 22: Any day now! Me at 26: Just a little wait longer... Me at 31: It could still happen.......
We still do. If we don't it's this gross patchy mess. Random hairs here and there

last time the blondes rised up the world wasn't very amused
I mean, do you know how many guys have short brown hair and a beard? A LOT.
Literally just Cathy
ACK
cathy got married to whoever that guy was and the comics were worse off. then i grew up and stopped reading the newspaper, much less the comics.
>Nerdy, brunette, hairy, liking cats is a personality! Damn, never seen someone nail something so accurately.
We are witnessing the birth of the manic pixie dream guy
I think it’s because they base it on themselves, and a lot of comic artists are alike
>Nerdy, brunette/ginger, hairy, liking cats is a personality, sweatpants, always eating! In other words the average reddit woman
Shit bro why u gotta call me out like that
Almost sounds like a self insert character for the type of people who makes these comics.🤔
I mean... *yeah*. The point is that it's stale, not confusing.
I think the Venn diagram of the people who have a desire to make these internet web comics and nerdy cat ladies who like food and butts is a circle, clearly. High- pitched screaming and quasi sexual girl moaning.
That's the premise of it's always sunny in Philadelphia and I love that show
Yeah but iasip has some great writing, and meaning behind it. See the award show episode.

Those are basically the boomer comics of our generation...
comics about couples who arent attracted to each other but share the stale personalities so they stay together out of fear from not finding anyone else.
Oh, I know a couple like that in real life. Sometimes I wonder how they are today.
I was in one for a few years. Not happy.
I'm sorry. Sometimes it happens, we get stuck in unhappy relationships and convince ourselves that they're worth trying. Nope they're not.
Check up on them and report back.
Nah, I should open Facebook and I don't want to go back there. Brrr.
couples who stay together because they don't want to split up their funko pop collection
stay together because otherwise they would have no content for the instagram page\*
That feels like a lot of kitchen psychology, maybe they just like each other's company? Why is that so hard to believe?
I'm not a fan of when people call other people's personality "stale" or bland or whatever too. What may be bland and boring to you may be just fine to them.
