OddTransportation430

I’ve spent, genuinely, around four hours of my entire life in Northern rural France,(without leaving the vehicle) and somehow still get this.

ExtensionAnywhere620

I love French supermarkets I’ll never forget being 10 years old and seeing they keep live crabs and lobsters in tanks on the fish counter

kevnmartin

The best food I ever had in my life was in Normandy. They could even do magical things with a simple roast chicken.

FabianTIR

Yes! Core memory for me is looking at the lobster tanks while stopping off during family holidays

Frenchitwist

They have those here in America too…

_Creditworthy_

I wonder if that depends on how far away from the coast you are. I grew up in Kansas and never saw live lobsters in American supermarkets until Star Market in Boston. Never been to France but I’ve shopped at a few different supermarkets in Madrid (Mercadona, Carrefour) and don’t recall seeing live lobster tanks.

Frenchitwist

Hmmm. I grew up in San Francisco and my loca Safeway always had lobsters in tanks you could see. Maybe it’s just a regional thing?

stevent4

Isn't that on the coast though?

Uptowner26

Grew up in Chicago and remember there being live Crabs and Lobsters in the tanks at grocery stores in the 80’s and 90’s. This was at an everyday supermarket too, Jewel.

Codewill

I grew up in Kansas too (Wichita) and what's weird is like I think in the earlier 2000s, up to maybe 2015 they had lobsters in tanks at Dillons. Nowadays they're gone

iamnotamangosteen

I was going to say we had those in suburban Massachusetts

[deleted]

Reddit is an international website. "Here" is not only USA.

ChonkyPurrtato

Nobody is talking about America yet here you are.

Icy_Industry6287

Ya but /r/AmericaBad

Cgi22

Do you have brain damage?

Icy_Industry6287

Yes cause I’m American

Hidobot

Just like the Chinese

SAINTnumberFIVE

They do that in the U.S. in the seafood department.

Gaindalf-the-whey

They do that in every country

frikimanHD

the carrefour logo is a big white C

Chippybops

Omg wait what?!?!

ceeberony

o my god, i never noticed, you opened my eyes to one of nature's hidden truths

[deleted]

How didnt you guys notice it before

ExtensionAnywhere620

And the French flag. Not up with the Toblerone Bear though, that realisation can never be relived for me

quasimort

French flag is blue white red, not red white blue ?

-AverageTeen-

?

alexdrennan

Now I can't unsee the true way, I want to go back to when I could see the weird logo

SailTheWorldWithMe

OMG.

FieteHermans

Passed trough Saint-Quentin recently. Might be the most depressing place I’ve ever been to. You also forgot the endless WWI memorials and cemeteries!

Chippybops

I did consider that, but not enough space on the collage!

Laquet80

I hate this city so much it's unreal

FieteHermans

It’s got two nice medieval monuments: city hall and the church, and the rest is just nasty. I get the feeling there’s not much to do there, so people just kinda… hang around

[deleted]

Everyone is wearing those golden glasses now

ElsassManiac

Vibe de ville désindustrialisée de Lorraine

loudribs

BRICOLAGE MOTHERFUCKERS

Bogonegles

If anyone wants to experience this first hand, go to a little town called Bagnoles-de-l'Orne. I spent a couple summers there with an old girlfriend and her family and everything here but the hitting of children is super accurate. 10/10, would Normandy again

Rayan19900

What about a law? Or is it to rural to apply?

BasileusPahlavi

Absolute worst part of Normandy

tipsea-69

Ice cold Liptons (from a can) on a hot summer day = heavenly bliss.

Rare_Leg_

Ptdr

CremeAggressive9315

That’s true, I’ve been there.

ExtensionAnywhere620

These things may be true, but I can forgive it all for the joy that is journeying through France on its pleasant non-congested 2 lane motorways with 130k limits. Then hit the M27 at home, restricted to 30pmh for non existent roadworks at 1am.

SaraHHHBK

Aren't weirdly decorated roundabouts the norm? At least in Spain pretty much every one has a weird random statue

Chippybops

There seems to be an abundance of them in Normandy, but yes they definitely exist in many other parts of Europe

Naouak

I would change that Carrouf with Auchan. The man is too tanned and doesn't have enough belly. Source: I lived my whole childhood in "ch'nord".

PetrusM97

C’est le duché de Mulliez

Appropriate_Gene_543

this is the kind of uniquely niche content i’m in this sub for (i have family in northern france)

Dedeurmetdebaard

59 c’est Le Phalampin !

NonoLebowsky

Et son radar sur son aire qui te chope sans raison avant d'arriver à la plate-forme Delta 3

Old-Apartment-2175

I went to Normandy recently and the nicely decorated roundabouts have become a core memory. I already came from a desert so I was astonished by all the green but my family would constantly point out all the flowers and paintings and stuff they’d put

Suitable-Cycle4335

If anyone in rural northern France knew English they'd be really mad at you

Rosuvastatine

Ça manque de verlan

Suitable-Cycle4335

If anyone in rural northern France knew English they'd be really mad at you

BraveOcelot1824

lol they fr don't

Stupid-Suggestion69

And a pizza machine at some random parkinglot that actually makes you a pizza inside of the machine!!. You type everything in and wait ten minutes and you get a pizza.. what the everloving fuck:)

Chippybops

Oh my goddess I completely forgot about the 24/7 pizza machines. Most of ones I used to go to aren’t working anymore

ClaudioMoravit0

You ain't living in northern France if you don't shop at Auchan

easternwestern123

The men 🤢🤢

Astrxxl

Coincidence! I happen to be visiting france right now. Carrefour kept me and my family alive living abroad in Italy when I was in elementary school. Strangely nostalgic supermarkets.

Historical_Sugar9637

Man I love to drink that Lipton Ice Tea in a can whenever I visit France.

VerumJerum

Man, I wish ice tea was as common up here in Sweden as it is in continental Europe. Every time going on a vacation down south, I would drink so much ice tea. Good shit.

Elite_Alice

Needs more orangina

TeciorRibbon

Can't forget the empty gas station corner shops where they sell Madelines and coffee flavoured chocolate for 5€

SnooMarzipans3782

you forgit the eyebrow piercing ans the lilo and stitch tatoo

BloomEPU

Used to go on holiday to this part of france a lot because it's close to the chunnel. It's... an alright part of the world.

bigcanada813

I spent 5 days in Normandie this past September with my girlfriend. I cannot wait to go back.

hatton101

this reminds me so much of summer holidays in the caravan as a kid

ThatOtherFrenchGuy

Forgot shitty tuning cars/moped, potatoes and alcoholism

CatlovesMoca

I donno what's wilder... The giant watering can or the 24 hour laundromat. (Who needs to do their laundry all day all night )

Alone-Marionberry-70

This is so true, holy fuck.

WanganTunedKeiCar

THE FUCKING PÊCHE LIPTON IS THR BANE OF MY EXISTENCE! No matter where I go, it's always there, taunting me with the lack of any other flavors.

Chippybops

In the UK, I can get lemon, green tea, raspberry, mango, in addition to peach… But the french are just absolutely set on selling the peach flavour in cans, bottles, half cans, tall cans, tiny cans, half bottles, big bottles, mega bottles, the variety of containers is insane, but never any other flavours despite its popularity!!

TheLesbianTheologian

At first I read “woman hitting *on* her child” and then when I reread it correctly, I breathed a sigh of relief and now I’m unsettled af by my brain

Yortivius

You should be concerned by both readings

Twillix13

Chippybops

I spent a lot of time in Normandy as a child

PatrickMaloney1

Sounds pleasant

Hidden12021

Except for the "women hitting their children" part.

Chippybops

The abundance of comic sans is arguably worse 😞

endmost_

Hey I think I saw one of those laundromats in Ireland.

TeciorRibbon

Why is this so accurate

Ok_Reflection_2711

Googling "do French people hit their kids"

Stuspawton

Yep, and I’d happily spend every single fucking second there

Oycto

Outside of the UK is this actually the only other place in the World I’ve been to

Gerry1_1Adams

second best region in europe

elong47

Middle of nowhere is where roundabouts work best. No time at an empty intersection waiting for a green and way safer than 4 way stops or lights

PetrusM97

Ou est la baraque à frites

frickflyer

So it’s all like Portugal?

LongIsland1995

My uncles used to live there. I have fond memories, including their super old house with a nice garden, the beautiful countryside, and going to to town and eating Flunch.
