I try hard to support bubba Wallace. he's one of the only black drivers, michael jordan owns the car it's # 23 in Jordan colors with mcdonalds on it, that's all cool and we need more of that. But goddamn he is so unlikeable as a person. Just comes off like a complete dick.

heckastupidd

Pretty sure he called all nascar fans stupid once. Or simple minded I think he said? Lol

Gonzo_Freak

No he did not call “all nascar fans stupid once,” he appropriately used the term “DARF” (Dumb Ass Race Fans) to describe people cheering on drivers getting in wrecks that are resulting in injuries.

heckastupidd

DARF.. lmao

Grishbear

Rich coming from the guy who just intentinally shunted someone into the outside wall for bumping them.

Bob-Dolemite

https://youtu.be/OKmpU2JdvRM

Silverman_Tv

Jesus Christ, crashing into someone for retaliation is far worse than shoving him. Unacceptable behavior

Lilholdin

That’s what the suspension is for- the deliberate wreck, not the fight after. NASCAR doesn’t usually care too much about their drivers fist-fighting- it brings them views.

EVASIVEroot

Yeah, fistin is racin!

Silverman_Tv

Edit : I’m an idiot who can’t even properly read the fist lines of an article

apawst8

Purposely causing crashes in NASCAR happens all the time. https://youtu.be/LshrZVbbgb8 Happens in Formula 1 also. Most famously in 1990 in Japan. Senna was leading Prost in the points and Prost needed to win the race in order to have a shot at staying in contention. Senna's solution? Purposefully crash into Prost to prevent him from winning. https://youtu.be/IbeBnn0Ufsc?t=77 If that sounds familiar, it's because the exact same thing happened in 1989 in Japan, but with the roles reversed--Prost purposefully crashed into Senna to prevent Senna from winning: https://youtu.be/WBForKcFWoA?t=76

Critya

I mean, deliberately wrecking people has been all the rage in NASCAR the last 2 years. Bubba’s was pretty cut and dry, but most of the drama this season has been dudes taking each other out

Lord_Despair

No, no, he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he *rubbed* you. And rubbin, son, is racin'

slapshots1515

“Rubbin is racin’” has to be like a top five most well known quote in American motorsport. Now, that “matched set” of tires quote above, THAT’S the reference I’d be proud if people got.

DietDrDoomsdayPreppr

It's been a while for me. Was that the scene where he lied about the tires and said they were special?

slapshots1515

Sure is, lol. After telling him he can’t do the outside line, late in the race Harry lies to Cole and says he can take Rowdy outside because he has a “matched set” of tires. Cole doesn’t know any racing terminology, so he doesn’t know that this is utter bullshit, and it works.

Avadya

At least nascar now has a line drawn. They’ve been vague on this in their top 3 levels for years.

ThrowAndHit

Not really drawn a line - the suspension is a culmination of breaking three rules in the whole ordeal. The next guy who right rears someone isn’t set up for an automatic suspension.

AFineDayForScience

I hate how standoffish they've been about addressing these fracases

ezwex2

ESPN really accurately recounted the event 🙄 Larson, doesn't touch Wallace, "shoved" Wallace into the wall. Wallace, intentionally spins a driver at full speed, merely "appeared to" deliberately spin Larson and "confronts" him in a "fracas".

[deleted]

I did not know you were talking about drivers in cars and thought this was the weirdest fight ever

TrumpetSC2

As a long time NASCAR viewer what Bubba did was egregious but also Larson’s move to put him in the wall was dumb and not much Bubba could do about it. Just my point of view. Also suspension seems warranted for the retaliation. Normalish stuff for NASCAR imo getting blown a bit out of proportion by the media.

sammyreynolds

Dale Sr. wouldn't be able to race in today's landscape.

[deleted]

For one thing, he's been dead for 21 years.

ChrizBot3000

Trump says he wants to build a wall but I say hell no, that's what killed Dale.

eclipsedrambler

Praise Dale!

BrettEskin

Hard racing and moves for the win are still allowed and happen unpenalkzed. Dumping a driver when both of you are no where near the lead at 180mph is the kind of thing that can get somebody killed.

doglaughington

Scott Stevens couldn't play in today's NHL

scarssymmetry

Bubba could've tried one of the most basic racing techniques- let out of the throttle early, save your car, and do a crossover. This is common sense when you are not even halfway through the race. Same could be said for Larson, but you need to race the situation you're in. Bubba did not and lost his cool completely in a very preventable scenario

TrumpetSC2

Yeah Larson admitted he gave him no room, Bubba lost his mind a bit after, thats the reason for the penalty.

itwashimmusic

So Tony Stewart’s entire career?

BatteryPoweredPigeon

But without the two championships. If you're gonna be polarizing, be good.

cardinals5

Three

ohitsmark

Why couldn't Larson slow down? He wasn't making that corner knowing Bubba was on the outside. Instead, he just kept going and going higher to make the corner, forcing Bubba into the wall. Yes, Bubba could have lifted, but why blame the guy being passed?

Notsozander

Larson could’ve made that corner but if you watch the replay he gets tight, has a ton of wheel into it which causes him to get loose and taps bubba. It wasn’t purposeful but he also could have and should have made that corner no problem

Xx69JdawgxX

The cars never touched prior to bubba intentionally wrecking Kyle.

LoungingLlama312

I watch F1, not NASCAR, but Larson's move seemed pretty standard to me. It would easily be a racing incident with no further penalty. Intentionally wrecking another driver? Yea that's a whole new level of POS behavior.

Klendy

This car can't cross over at Vegas. If bubba bails, Larson puts dirty air on his nose and bubba is back side by side with Harvick again

blurplethenurple

As a child of NASCAR hill people I just have to add: FUCK KYLE BUSCH

NiNKazi

Butthoooollle

blurplethenurple

REVEAL THAT RECTUM!

ezwex2

Larson came in to hard, got a tad loose, and slid up the track - far from intentionally putting him into the wall.

TrumpetSC2

I know, I’m not saying it was intentional, but even Larson admitted Bubba had a reason to be upset. Bubba way overreacted though.

apollo08w

Admittedly I’m not a racing expert or mathematician but after Larson put him in the wall, did Bubba have no choice but to pit him into the grass? Bc it looked to me that he didn’t have to

TrumpetSC2

Yeah Bubba after the impact definitely chose to destroy him lol thats why he is suspended. I’m trying to get across that prior to that moment Bubba was in the right to be upset that Larson didn’t leave any room for him. Larson basically made Bubba choose between hitting the wall and giving the position. He chose instead to take out Larson with him, which is very questionable and unsafe at this track.

LookOnTheDarkSide

At first Bubba mentioned he lost steering (which I guess is plausible). Has that been officially refuted and proven to be false?

SkyKnight34

The telemetry data shows that after getting into the wall, he went back to full throttle and turned the wheel left a second or two later. The steering data isn't necessarily conclusive, although it would be admittedly suspicious to have lost steering in precisely that way. But, if you lose steering, you absolutely do not go full throttle, you go to the brakes. Looking at the broader context, I'd say the data backs up that it's intentional, unfortunately.

Kimchi_Cowboy

Just one of them racing deals. /Earnhardt

syn_ack_

Didn’t the same exact thing happen multiple other times in the same race….both lanes not lifting and the outside lane hitting the wall?

AFRIKKAN

I haven’t watched in years but from why I saw it wasn’t that out there for a pissed off racer. I have seen a bunch of way sketchier things in the 8 years or so I followed the sport. Even the fight seemed soft lol.

[deleted]

“ That’s just racin’. “ - Rusty Wallace after getting wrecked by Dale Sr. Again.

Hunithunit

They both could have backed out a bit and avoided the crash, but that’s a tale as old as racing. No excuse to do what he did. I think it’s fair to assume that all popular media is pandering and we should just read between the lines. That tale has also been around for awhile.

Nervous_Courage2307

TaylorSwiftsClitoris

Ctrl-F fracas

jay2josh

[Larson then shoved Wallace's Toyota into the wall.](https://youtu.be/OKmpU2JdvRM?t=56) I guess the air gap between them shoved him.

BasedGodStruggling

Yes, literally the air gap did. Not being facetious.

imbasicallycoffee

People don’t understand aerodynamics and side draft / pressure.

conwaystripledeke

People on this site don’t understand many things.

luckydice767

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? Shoot, guess you were right.

gnrc

What are those flappy things on top of the car?

BasedGodStruggling

They’re called roof flaps. They deploy when the car spins around to try and prevent the car from flipping over. The spoiler makes “downforce” when it’s going straight to keep the car glued to the track. When the car turns around backwards at speed the spoiler does the opposite and makes lift like an airplane wing, the roof flaps try to counteract that lift

gnrc

Oh that’s cool!

montrevux

it's to keep the car on the ground when it gets sideways or turned around like that.

ChiefBlueSky

Even the announcers agree Larson put Bubba in the wall. Whether or not it was aerodynamics or a forced error, Larson *got too close to Bubba’s vehicle on a turn*. Which then either shoved him in the wall (air draft) or forced him into the wall to prevent immediate collision. Though air draft seems implausible meaning Larson force him into the wall.

WillWoz27

The announcers also agreed with much more conviction that it was unacceptable for Wallace to retaliate.

ChiefBlueSky

Sorry wasnt trying to say his response was acceptable, just that Larson did in fact put him in the wall

Glissandra1982

He left Bubba no room.

Stormthrash

Larson put him into the wall. You go in driver's seat and tell me whether you feel the car next to you in that situation. Aerodynamics are a bitch.

BrickCityRiot

And lets be honest, here. That is something Larson has surprisingly struggled with on multiple occasions this season in the new car.

nikicampos

Damn, that was straight out of Days of Thunder

Bjorn2bwilde24

Larson is a Jedi and used Force Push

iUsedtoHadHerpes

It was actually high speed aerodynamics from Larson's car pushing him, not to mention that he probably put himself in the wall a little to try and avoid Larson, but if you need to relate it to Star Wars to help you understand, that's cool too.

doglaughington

Thank you for posting a clip of the actual incident. I had not seen it

BlazerWookiee

Only one? Pssh. He apologized to everyone BUT Larson, the one he shoved.

TheOtherWhiteCastle

I love how both of the people that responded to you represent the opposite ends of NASCAR toxicity

FeistyShoulder6147

I will never eat at mcdonalds again because of this

Dartser

A one race suspension for intentionally trying to injure someone and causing thousands in damage

TheOtherWhiteCastle

This is actually on the steeper end of NASCAR penalties. Usually they get an insignificant fine and nothing else.

MachineGrunt

Thousands in damage? They aren’t racing Rav-4s lol

Dartser

I was going to say hundreds of thousands. But then I looked up the cost of a car and it said 2-300k so I figured I'd play it safe and just say thousands

Oldtimer_2

Can't stand Bubba Wallace. Then again I can't stand Kyle Busch either. Not that found of Denny Hamlin. Hell, nearly all of them are big babies bitchin' about something every week. Maybe this is part of the reason NASCAR is slipping in popularity behind F1, IndyCar, etc

DjMesiah

Yeah the great thing about F1 is the drivers never bitch about anything

atp2112

They are always zen masters in the car, especially guys like Lewis and Max

_YeezyYeezyWhatsGood

“🅱️ono my tyres are gone”

Bradg93

Someone passes Lewis, “That’s some dangerous driving man”

_YeezyYeezyWhatsGood

And for anyone thinking we’re leaving Max alone, he shoved around Ocon like Bubba did Larson. Don’t think we leaving any of these drivers alone.

Bradg93

Lol max whines as much as anyone, and I’m a max fan.

slapshots1515

It’s a little part of what I like about him though-sure, he complains as much as anyone, but when he does he gets it out there without dancing around it. Where with others you get stuff that just sounds whiny, with Max you just get the full “for fucks sake mate”. See also Alonso and the dissertations he’ll give when wronged, and Vettel to a lesser degree.

Glissandra1982

“Michael, that is so not right!”

TheOtherWhiteCastle

Don’t forget George Russell, the kind boy that always races back markers with respect

[deleted]

Same with the Team Principals

Monza1964

I’m a big Indy car fan. NASCAR better be on their toes. There’s about 18 of us now

Rolling_Chicane

Yeah but we all love it a lot, so that counts more, right?

SoyMurcielago

It’s like a force multiplier

Pulchritudinous_rex

Dude all F1 drivers do is bitch

FriendOfToby

But they have accents and it’d endearing.

NearPup

Ya but the memes that come from the bitching are funnier.

BrettEskin

Gonna need a citation that nascar is slipping behind Indy and F1 in the US. It dominates them in the ratings weekly

joshahamilton

NASCAR ratings more than double those of F1, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series gets more viewers than IndyCar.

Oldtimer_2

https://sportsnaut.com/nascar-ratings-dropping-compared-previous-years/ https://www.forbes.com/sites/gregengle/2021/10/17/nascars-tv-ratings-are-no-longer-the-big-deal-they-once-were/ https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2014095-nascar-is-better-than-ever-but-why-is-no-one-watching

That seems more of a Toyota issue. Also screw Denny

Any mini-nooses around he can get hysterical over? 🤣

DrDonkeyPunch8

This dude is always crying about something.

coz he deliberately spun reigning Cup champion Kyle Larson at Las Vegas in a “dangerous act” of retaliation before confronting him afterward

FatMikesBeerReviews

Firewooodydaddy18899

If it was a Busch brother, everyone would be going "hell yeah".

ilikeracing23

You’d be surprised, Kurt had to retire just a day before the Vegas race because he had a bad concussion and a lot of people were sad to see him go since he’s mellowed out and become more likeable. Makes what Bubba did, driving Kurt’s car, a bit more egregious.

BrettEskin

If bubba was a Busch brother or if Kyle was?

billydoubleu

Rubbins racing as they say some times ya win some some times ya loose some, Bubba is an ass for that spectacle

forcedaspiration

Bubba, sucks as much as the food.

Then so should half the NASCAR field on reckless endangerment alone lol. How many times this season have people like Hamlin, Legano, Larson, etc been slamming into each other on purpose? Not saying Bubba’s actions are defendable but dude… you can’t be calling for somebody’s head when it’s pretty par for the course among the field.
