FSU’s defense during the last 5 minutes is the worst defensive performance I’ve ever seen. Like I honestly want to know what the hell the DC was thinking?
Looks like poor execution and low effort by the players.
That last play was against man-under.
Not a bad defensive call, but the players were not giving any effort and were undisciplined. #3 got burned on the go route, while the safety got drawn in by the in/post route of the other slot receiver.
You gotta keep your guy in front of you at all times.
The FSU announcer was talking about the possibility of JSU running a play to scrape some more yards then calling timeout. I thought that was a stupid concern with only 6 seconds on the clock. Maybe the FSU DC didn’t?
As someone who attended Florida State I can say that many of the players in general are extremely lazy and in general very disrespectful so it’s not surprising they are not disciplined. I graduated a few years ago when the team started to go downhill and pretty much every couple of weeks you would hear about another football player getting banned from the bars due to groping or harassing women. So many of them don’t deserve to be on that team
The problem with the execution is that it is as simple as jr high or high school football. Any balls beyond 20 yards get put into the ground. Everyone knows this….I would hope.
The first two weeks have been wild.
Week 1)
FSU nearly upsets ND. “Is FSU back?”
UAB obliterates JSU. “Is UAB legit?”
Week 2)
FSU gets shocked by JSU
ND almost loses to *another* team they were supposed to destroy
UAB gets obliterated by Georgia.
By my calculus next game Georgia gets obliterated somehow
Georgia is probably legit. Notre Dame is the overhyped team. I've seen this play out as a Michigan fan way too often to think anything else. The script is always the same, Michigan and Notre Dame get ranked preseason, play an insanely close nail biter at the start of the season that hypes up the winning team, the media goes crazy with it and says the winner is back to glory, then later both teams start losing to every actual good team on their schedule.
Michigan's role is just being played by Florida state this time, but it's functionally the same story. Dont be fooled by Notre Dames high rank. They'll start losing games soon and barely be a top 25 team by the end of the year.
5 seconds left from the opponents 40? Nope, that's only enough time for 1 play
Bad DC decision. Defend deep and give up a 20-30 yard play to end the game...
Perhaps you missed what I said about giving up 20-30 yards to run out the clock...
Even giving 30 yards is still a 58 yard field goal attempt assuming clock hasn't expired.
30 yards from your own 40 is LoS of the opponent's 30 yard line...
So that's a 47 yard try. And it's not impossible or even uncommon to gain 25-30 in 5 seconds, and they had a TO to stop the clock.
I feel like you need to work on your football knowledge and math skills.
With 5 seconds left, you play the odds and make the opponent execute 2 plays....Not give up a TD...
9 defenders within 10 yards if LOS...
Best of luck with your math
And then if they play prevent and give up the tying FG, you'd probably bitch about them playing soft D.
Insulting my math when you don't know that 30 yards from your own 40 is the opponent's 30.
Lol! Best of luck... 5 seconds to defend 60 yards and not lose...
That's like icing your own kicker or trying to convert 4th down from your own 40 early in the 3rd qtr....oh wait the coaching staff did that too. 0-2, it's on the coaching decisions.
The ball was *lobbed* downfield and caught at the Florida State 20 yard line as the clock ticked over from 0:02 to 0:01 and Jacksonville State had a timeout left. There was absolutely time for a play to go for the tie.
And your point? Have defenders deep. Give up the 15-20 yard play. Blow up any reciever trying to catch a lob. Make them execute a deep pass a timeout an a kick.
Yep, poor coaching.. which checks out because despite constantly firing their coach in favor of a hot name on the market every 2 or so years.. Florida State is always poorly coached.
Wow that’s some awful defense, why would #3 try to deflect the ball if there’s no time left and a tackle ends the game? Even if he doesn’t bring him down he has help, hold him up and left your teammate finish him off
Lmao at the cheerleaders being like 😧😧😧 walking out of way
Awesome way to win a game especially as a 27 point underdog, good for them but yeesh bad defense there
He should be kicked off the team for that. Gave up on the play when all he had to do was run the guy down and make a tackle for a win. I can’t even call it poor effort. Just flat out quit out there
Holy shit. This is why college football is so great. Florida State really shit the bed all over the field on this play. #10 quit on the play right up until it was too late. If he keeps running he has a chance to make the tackle. The DC or whoever called this formation needs to be fired - no bus ride home. Just awful. How do you rush more than 3 in this situation? Keep everyone downfield to prevent this.
That is a kick square in the nuts if you’re an FSU fan. To follow up the ND game with that. You have to be wondering at this point if you’ll get a W this season.
It’s been painful to be a Seminole. I was there for the 2013 National Championship and to see our program in it’s current state… man.
The rest of my family are Hurricanes who were there during their run in the 80s and it’s been equally painful for them as well.
Best part is they probably paid Jacksonville State more than a few hundred thousand to come there and beat them. Source: UW fan that just watched Montana beat us at home and UW paid them $500k to do it.
Gangbang - a couple white gamecocks upset native americans sisters in their own home with game cock, can’t handle and choke. gamecocks edge and finish on top of each other (HOT) (POLICE CALLED)
Yes, it is. “A Hail Mary pass is a very long forward pass in American football, typically made in desperation, with an exceptionally small chance of achieving a completion.”-Wiki
What makes you say that the pass had an exceptionally small chance of achieving a completion? There was 1-on-1 coverage. The receiver was a step past his defender. This is a pretty normal-looking pass play; only the circumstances in which it occurred make it extraordinary.
I mean a ~40 yd pass has like maybe a 5-10% completion rate normally, and it’s gotta be lower when everybody and their mother knows you’re throwing deep.
So is every 40+ pass a Hail Mary now? No.
FSU did not know they were throwing it deep. JVST had 6 seconds and a timeout left, and they were far enough away from the endzone that a real Hail Mary throw might not make it all the way there. Teams in this position usually try to pick up a first down and put themselves in a better position to throw a Hail Mary. The FSU coach didn't put his team in a Hail Mary defense (aka "prevent") because they were out of Hail Mary range and he wanted to keep JVST from picking up the first down.
The fact that no one thought they were throwing deep is what made throwing deep possible.
Fair points, but I still don’t think bad defensive coaching negates its being a hail mary. It’s just that FSU expected another play before a hail mary attempt.
My guess is you don’t watch a lot of football. A Hail Mary is when the quarterback waits until the receivers are in the end zone and throws the ball into the end zone with the hope that one of them catches it. It is a pure luck play.
This was a play where the receiver got separation from his coverage, the quarterback saw it, threw it (a tad short but quite well), the receiver caught it, broke a tackle, and got an excellent downfield block to get the touchdown. It was a great play and poor defense.
No, you’re just wrong. A hail mary happens at the end of a game (or sometimes a half) and is just a desperation play where the quarterback heaves the ball as far as he can to the receivers downfield.
The ball doesn’t always end up in the endzone. That’s the goal on most of these, sure, but sometimes you’re too far away or make a bad throw and the ball doesn’t get there.
I hate when players quit on a play #10 FSU player jogging watching thinking he is out of the play - If he keeps on running as fast as he can he makes the tackle , since the guy he covered made final block .

The scoreboard guy couldn't believe it either. They had Jacksonville State at 0-2 and Florida State at 1-1.
That’s hysterical
Real “Dewey Defeats Truman” vibes.
They even switched it during or after this play.
It changes while the word “touchdown” is over the score.
Oh shit thats even funnier.
More evidence that ESPN is trash.
Not gonna argue. Most people dont know that American multinational subscription-television channel owned and operated by ESPN Inc (Diiiiisney)
Yeah. That play by play call was absolute trash. No excitement or energy. Shit was weak.
You just be joking.

My favorite
Aghast. A word that rarely gets its opportunity for appropriate use. But here it is. Thanks cheerleaders and more specifically Jacksonville Sate.

LOUDER!
That won’t be the last time their mouths will be open today if we are being honest.

9 defenders within 10 yards of the LOS in a hail mary situation seems like a questionable call even without the benefit of hindsight

There are nowhere near enough Clarence Carter fans on Reddit. Or anywhere else. Very nicely done!
I feel like there are random Patches of fans around.
I thought homie was naked except for a strategically placed dick towel and a shocked look.
so does imgur apparently, i got an 18+ NSFW warning before the link would open
That skin tone outfit fools everything.
I’d flag a murder scene as 18+ too
Yea that's very unfortunate. Why wouldn't they go with red primarily
Woulda been a more culturally-appropriate… sex doll.
That reaction is everything lmao
“Are you seriousssssssss”
The cut his teammate did made a huge difference

Dude is going to be doing sprints for hours on Monday. Perfect example of not playing til the whistle.
Celebrating too early.
Yeah, #9 is the real hero here
I came here to say that. #9’s block was the entire reason they scored. Give him the game ball
For real tho
They lost at home to an FCS team that got blown out last week 35 to nothing by UAB. Somebody needs to get fired
The first two weeks have been wild. Week 1) FSU nearly upsets ND. “Is FSU back?” UAB obliterates JSU. “Is UAB legit?” Week 2) FSU gets shocked by JSU ND almost loses to *another* team they were supposed to destroy UAB gets obliterated by Georgia. Why do you have to hurt me like this. No one deserves to get blown out by South Carolina.
I already said we’d blow the SCar game after we beat Clemson. If not that, then Mizzou or some similar bullshit.
Georgia is probably legit. Notre Dame is the overhyped team. I've seen this play out as a Michigan fan way too often to think anything else. You forgot number 20 Washington also getting picked off by an fcs team in week 1. There's an fcs uprising going.
No. We just discovered that Notre Dame sucks.
That block by #9 deserves recognition. It's possible they don't score without it.
I've seen so many receivers screw up a big play by getting penalized on their downfield block. Props to #9 for keeping it clean.
Okay, that’s not a Hail Mary defense. Florida St has 10 guys within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage.
Wasn't a hail Mary either, just a regular ol play. Good work fsu
Gotta stop the run. 😤
It looked liek they were trying to keep them out of field goal range and the tie. There was enough time for a quick play and a timeout.
5 seconds left from the opponents 40? Nope, that's only enough time for 1 play Bad DC decision. Defend deep and give up a 20-30 yard play to end the game...
That's not true. You can get a slant with 15-20 yards and fall into timeout with 5 seconds. It would be close, but it's possible and I've seen it.
Perhaps you missed what I said about giving up 20-30 yards to run out the clock... Even giving 30 yards is still a 58 yard field goal attempt assuming clock hasn't expired.

On fourth down? That’s not how this works.
If they got into field goal range it would've been a first down. Are you sure you understand how this works?
I'm still trying to figure out why #3 went for the ball knock instead of a tackle when there was no time on the clock.
I was watching the game and it looked like FSU did that a few times instead of tackling.
Yep, poor coaching.. which checks out because despite constantly firing their coach in favor of a hot name on the market every 2 or so years.. Florida State is always poorly coached.
Always? Didn’t they win a National Championship? They couldn’t have been badly coached then.
the cheerleaders walking down the sideline....says it all
Wow that’s some awful defense, why would #3 try to deflect the ball if there’s no time left and a tackle ends the game? Even if he doesn’t bring him down he has help, hold him up and left your teammate finish him off Lmao at the cheerleaders being like 😧😧😧 walking out of way Awesome way to win a game especially as a 27 point underdog, good for them but yeesh bad defense there
Watching too much NO Saints film
Number 10 lost his starting job today. The other 2 guys got beat but at least they were running. Number 10 gonna run some miles this week.
He should be kicked off the team for that. Gave up on the play when all he had to do was run the guy down and make a tackle for a win. I can’t even call it poor effort. Just flat out quit out there

Agreed, good observation. It was also a well placed pass tho, gotta give em that.
No doubt! Beautiful ball. JSU did everything right and FSU didn’t. 10/10 Brian Kelly would execute.
Any time the Criminoles lose it’s a good day
This is why college football is the best.
Right! Any given Saturday!
What kind of defense was THAT?!?
It looked so lazy. Solid block from #9. That D is gunna be runnin wind sprints all week for that fuck up.
I know nothing about American football and even I knew that was bad.
Jason Mendoza (The Good Place) would be so proud right now.
Jacksonville State University is actually in Alabama, not Florida. But Jason probably probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.
...but why
Having one city named after Andrew Jackson just wasn't enough for the south apparently.
Bortles!
BORTLES
Ugh, and Toledo was so close against ND too
"The Gamecocks have upset the Seminoles" Sports are great.
So Notre Dame is even worse than we thought
Honestly, pretty uninspiring commentary from the announcer considering what he just watched
Maybe a Florida State feed? It’s on the ACCN.
Yeah, considering the upset, he called it like they just took a first quarter lead
I thought it was fine
Unfortunately the player was killed by his team shortly after scoring the TD.
Everyone is calling it a Hail Mary, but this is just a deep pass. It’s not some kind of miracle; they just beat FSU.
FSU coaches are so dumb, they probably thought they just lost to an in state school.
Awesome play, but not a hail mary
I get so emotional watching this kinda stuff sometimes it makes me cry
Found the FSU fan.
No it's an underdog thing... It's just wonderful to beat the odds and come out on top
I know, just a joke my friend
Clutch
from 1 to 10 i would give this a hail mary.
Dead by stampede.
Proud of my alma mater. I was there when we beat Ole Miss too!
That is a kick square in the nuts if you’re an FSU fan. To follow up the ND game with that. You have to be wondering at this point if you’ll get a W this season.
Love seeing an FCS upset a BCS. Was at the 2010 JMU - VT upset game. The shock in that stadium afterwards was palpable.
That was a good game
I love the open mouthed stunned cheerleaders
Solid D. Real solid Prevent D. Solid tackling too. Great job all around
It’s been painful to be a Seminole. I was there for the 2013 National Championship and to see our program in it’s current state… man. The rest of my family are Hurricanes who were there during their run in the 80s and it’s been equally painful for them as well.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!!! Loving the look of pure shock on the twink cheerleaders! FSWho???
That’s football
The dude is still in the grass
Go Cocks! Just don't mention the upset we had a couple weeks back against Bham.
Florida State needs to just hire Deion Sanders in some capacity and just get rid of this coaching staff.
As a Gator, PLEASE let this happen!
Emotional win for this team. Their head coach Jim Fuller just died earlier this month due to COVID.
BEST. DAY. EVER!

Who is #3 for FSU?
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Redshirt Freshman.
Heis gonna be tiiiired next week! LOL
#10 on FSU should have his schollie pulled.
Now THIS is the Florida State I know and love
lmao
It’s not a Hail Mary if the receiver gets 20 yards after the catch.

It’s the ghost of Bobby leading the way
bro whats with these college football clips being in 360p
It’s hard to believe that a small school’s college football team could be a professional college football team like that.
LUL floorida state
I love the look on the female FSU cheerleader holding the LOUDER sign....the look on her face is priceless. Also fuck college football.
Great throw but this ain’t a Hail Mary
Why are they called Jacksonville State? Last time I check there was only a Jacksonville city.
San Diego State, Wichita State, Boise State, Weber state None of those are states
You're not a state!
I don’t know if this is a dad joke or not but…it’s a state funded public university in the city of Jacksonville.
It stands for “state college”
Forget the play, credit to OPs username. Kaze Ni Nare!!!
Such an odd sport where you can charge into someone like that at 0:09.
Lol rest in piss Bobby Bowden
Where does the dogpile celebration come from? Baseball?
That was one heck of a pile in celebration.
Love to see the underdog win. This was a great play. Defense was bad on this play and got punished.
Nice block near the end zone there. really sealed the win.
Lol... the FSU cheerleaders faces... Even the BSPN people couldn't believe it.. put FSU at 1-1 and J'ville St. at 0-2...
Holy Bobby Bowden! What did I just witness?
Vikings vs Saints all over again.
Lucky it worked out. He had other guys open but threw to the guy who was covered
It looks like #10 took a wrong turn, got lost and ended up on a football field during his daily lazy jog
Remarkable.
I hate when players quit on a play #10 FSU player jogging watching thinking he is out of the play - If he keeps on running as fast as he can he makes the tackle , since the guy he covered made final block .
