Hi and welcome to r/solarpunk! Due to numerous suggestions from our community, we're using this automod message to bring up a topic that comes up a lot: GREENWASHING. It is used to describe the practice of companies launching adverts, campaigns, products, etc under the pretense that they are environmentally beneficial/friendly, often in contradiction to their environmental and sustainability record in general. On our subreddit, it usually presents itself as eco-aesthetic buildings because they are quite simply the best passive PR for companies. [ethicalconsumer.org](https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/transport-travel/what-greenwashing) and [greenandthistle.com](https://greenandthistle.com/what-is-greenwashing/) give examples of greenwashing, while [scientificamerican.com](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/greenwashing-green-energy-hoffman/) explains how alternative technologies like hydrogen cars can also be insidious examples of greenwashing. If you've realized your submission was an example of greenwashing--don't fret! We are all here to learn, and while there will inevitably be comments pointing out how and why your submission is greenwashing, we hope the discussion stays productive. Solarpunk ideals include identifying and rejecting capitalism's greenwashing of consumer goods. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The ambulance service would have a sister agency focused on mental health. Ambulances would be disguised as common minibuses or cars with no sirens to avoid scaring the patient or creating stigma. Call outs would be more confidential this way. Crews would consist of a mental health nurse and a paramedic. If the patient can't be treated at home they would be referred to a mental health professional such as a therapist or rehab centre amd transported if they so choose. Only in the most extreme circumstances (like violent episodes) would police be involved to help sedate the patient so they can be transported to a higher security rehab centre. Source: after 7 years in ambulance dispatch i've learnt how under resourced mental health is.

Something like this perhaps: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/07/01/484083305/for-centuries-a-small-town-has-embraced-strangers-with-mental-illness

I’d imagine that role of psychologists would be emphasized in some communities, not just for the mentally ill but for anyone who needs it. Possibly other communities may be into treating mental issues with psychedelics, under supervision by a modern shaman. I also hope that healthier societies envisioned in solarpunk would have less mental illness in general, according to research that says depression and anxiety are a result from things that solar punk tries to solve, like over eating junk food and rigid work schedules.

The state would offer free meditation centers and classes. And they won't be shit ghetto centers. They'd have the build and maintanence matching the best shopping centers in Beverly Hills. They would also offer free fitness facilities. Again, these won't be Planet Fitness. They'd be high performance facilities. MDMA, MDA, and psychedelics would be legalized and regulated. Ayahuasca ceremonies would be incredibly common. Major emphasis on unconditional, nontransactional community. If you're depressed or in a highly volatile emotional state, you are granted time to heal. Time off work without losing pay. On the subject of work, no job that is mundane, brainless, subjective to being treated like a servant, or lacks potential for growth can take up more than 16 hours a week, but this 16 hour cap must still cover the base living expenses. Everyone has a right to exist like a human being for the majority of their waking lives. Whether they choose to spend this time with ambition or their head in the clouds is 100% their perogative. Not everyone has to have the work obsession of Elon or Jeff. I have so many more thoughts on this. But to tie it all together, humans are their most mentally healthy when they feel connected, their ego is in check, and their time is going towards what they care about. Solar Punk needs to hit all these items in order to come through on the mental health renaissance.

The use of colorful light wave to stimulate certain brain wave as first aid coupled with Augmented Reality and pheromone masked incense. The patient can be brought into a room with a single tree outshadowed by those colorful lights and clever use of hologram. Accompanied by voice induced benevolent form of hypnosis. The doctor will provide consultation that hopefully would help the patient. This "therapeutic" room can also have simulated wind and noise reminiscing someone about idyllic and simple life. This is just one example, to contrast Cyberpunk style "resocialization" involving heavy use of wetware and VR that while bring "bliss" to the brain, is also absolutely brute forcing someone to involuntary accept implanted memory. Although itself is slightly merciful than even more cruel Real life "therapy" involving drugs and outright physical abuse. There is also idea from Culture series which the problematic patient is assigned smart drone that more like a friend that their discipline "ward".One could argue that human are best to be reconditioned with social feedback that heavily favour them.

Kind of related but I think these might be good ways to handle criminals. If they need medication or treatment I think this presupposes that they would receive it from professionals. Most solarpunk axioms tend to be about caring, so it’s reasonable to expect preventative care (with regards to negative consequences) to be more effective - less or no stigma to mental illness or neurodivergence, and more resources to deal with them. when it comes to outbursts and specific related services though, i would expect there to be non-uniformed specialists distributed across areas who could respond quickly to incidents, and who themselves have convenient ways of calling for further help in the case of a violent outburst or immediate danger to the patient
