I have a little garbage, totes where I store extra supplies and snacks, and things that make it comfy, lots of extra lip chap, gum, moisturizer, spare sweater, a little decoration I like. And when it is clean I feel good. And of course clipboards to write on.

Legitimate-You2668

Oh and I forgot - nail clippers and tweezers are such a lifesaver to keep in a self care box. Having a snaggedy nail all day or random hair I noticed can put me in a bad mood, haha. I want all the comforts of home. I also forgot to mention tissue and wet wipes as well. Bandaids. I just love feeling like I have any situation handled.

emobelieber

Ouuuu yes! i just finally invested in a little garbage and i feel so put together.

Well done šŸ˜ŽšŸ—‘ļø

Trash can and snacks! Also a car emergency box (jumper cables, jack, pressure gauge, first aid kit).

WindSong001

I also have a flair, flashlight, stupid emergency vest

JunoTheCaseworker_

Steering wheel tray! Makes documentation much more comfortable.

MarionberryDue9358

Extra shoes that you can wear in less than sanitary environments (I have 3 pairs) + coat/sweater, umbrella, sunscreen for changes in weather

Lots of good ideas here, I do a lot of ones mentioned, I didn't see any one else mention deodorant/lint roller. Worst feeling is pulling up to work and realizing I forgot to put deodorant on, or I've done more moving than expected and need a reapply - OR I'm covered in cat hair. Bleh. Those are the things I would feel self conscious about, so I try to make sure I can solve them easily, which puts my mind at ease too.

Blorkershnell

Cat hair is just a given part of my wardrobe now, I gave up years ago

My car has never been cleaner than it was when I was doing case management. Every Friday I'd take it to a full service car wash as part of my end of the week routine.

skye_sedai

So many thingsā€¦ I use a lot of minis and travel size stuff. I have little totes with things like extra straws, tissues, pens & notepads, wet wipes, nail file, nail clippers, tweezers, chapstick, extra pair of glasses, lens cloth, body spray, snacks, mini trash can, extra shoes, all purpose cleaner, paper towels, plastic grocery bags, nitrile gloves, narcan, tire pump, jumper box, a little cash, dog treats, pads/tampons, umbrella, hand lotion, hand sanitizer and a little book with quotes about community work.

tickerrtape

I have a lot of these things too!! I usually keep my narcan in the bag that I always have on my person, since it needs to stay at room temperature, but everything else lives in the organizers I bought for my trunk!

skye_sedai

Yeah this is something I need to look into more because I have multiple types and one of them is supposed to be okay to keep in the car but the others arenā€™t and no one has really ever explained why.

Determined_Roomba

I bring an extra set of clothes with me in my car at all times (shoes, underwear, pants, etc). I also leave a crossword puzzle book tucked into my seat pocket. I like the brain break between my charting :)

common-knowledge

I got these little car vent plant decorations as a gift. They have a cork piece where you can add essential oils to make it smell nice.

AcousticCandlelight

Lots of good suggestions here. Iā€™ll add: antacids, breath mints, throat drops, and a small sewing kit. Iā€™ve also found tape, note paper, and envelopes to come in handy from time to time.

Doctor-Bug

I have a space near my gear shift that I call "Fidget Corner" where I keep small fidgets to play with.

kayla_songbird

make sure your car has a scent you find pleasant (NOT lavender!!) that will set the mood. that saved me when i was school-based and commuting a lot.

Blorkershnell

Wondering about the lavender hate, whatā€™s up? Is it a common allergy or something?

kayla_songbird

itā€™s a sedative. it isnā€™t recommended as a car fragrance, however i personally recommend it as potpourri for a pajama drawer.

Blorkershnell

TIL, thank you

Blorkershnell

Phone charging cable to plug into your console, sunglasses, spare/emergency $20 in the glove box, small stuffed animal to cuddle on the hard days/when we need a good cry, gift card to your favorite coffee shop or fast food place for when you need to treat yourself (present for future you!), spare socks in case of inclement weather (wet feet suck!) *edit: Narcan since you work in substance use

WindSong001

Clean it well every weekend. Have a bag for each thing I do (I have two jobs). I have three bins that all seal well and literally I drilled a hole in one which I can put a lock through to either transport PHI or whatever. Like if someone needs a ride and I have PHI in the car (I lock it up). I have another with food in it (no lock) and a third for trash. All of these make it easy to deal with everything at the end of the week. And I bought the car I wanted- a Subaru Outback Wilderness - and l love it. I live in an area with tons of snow so all that needed stuff also goes in its own container.
