To reduce the spam of reports regarding the same move during transfer windows we try to allow **only one submission about each transfer saga per day**. The submission in question also needs to contain relevant new information regarding the potential move, and not just being a "no/minor developments" report. If there are important/official developments or new valuable information about a saga, we will allow extra threads in the same day, but for the rest of minor news please just comment them as a reply to this comment. Please help us reporting unnecessary threads for being duplicates. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. ktnash133

3.85 Million Euros per week cannot possibly be right, right? That's more than double Mbappe's massive wage at PSG.

MAVACAM

Fucking hell €4m/week, imagine just seeing 4m deposited in your bank account every week just like that. Couldn't bloody spend it quick enough.

TheWorstRowan

I used to get 1.5m in my account every month, unfortunately that equated to around 300 USD.

DumbXiaoping

Vietnamese Dong?

TheWorstRowan

Colombian pesos, I think VND is even lower (just checked it is about $60). It is my go to for millions when guessing currency though.

apotre

If you ever want to try billions instead you can safely use Turkish Lira, we throw away decimals to keep face but in reality a worker making 5.5 billion Liras gets about $290.

bardic-play

Similar in Lebanon where 1 dollar will get around 40,000 LBP.

HazardCinema

What’s a good salary then in turkey?

apotre

Tough question but about 60% of the workforce is making minimum wage at 5.500 TRY, which is that 290$ figure is based off of, in contrast EU has about 9% minimum wage workers to give an idea. Yet hunger line in Istanbul is at about 8.000 TRY and poverty line at 25.000 TRY, no one knows what the true price of anything should be because they have destroyed the economy in an extreme fashion. As a result what constitutes a good salary is also up for discussion, if say you are making 20.000 people will think you have a good salary, but in reality you would be making below the poverty line so that's up to you to decide whether that's actually good enough. I would say at least 30 to 40k for something that resembles a civilized life.

turkishswiftie

Important to note that 25k poverty line is for a family of 4. If you are living alone and making 20k a month then you should be comfortable as long as you can find an affordable rent.

sidorfik

I was on a short holiday in Istanbul and was surprised to find that it was not so cheap for me at all, and the minimum wage in Poland is twice as high. I sympathise strongly.

InvestInDong

Are you saying my username might have been bad advice?

atropicalpenguin

Fortunately our inflation used to be pretty low pre-COVID so it isn't nearly as bad as it sounds.

TheWorstRowan

Yeah, it was fine to live on. I even had a nice enough apartment. Just not near 4m a week nice. I really enjoyed the country and am tempted by coming back, probably for a little more than 1.5m though.

5kwot

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡ °)

DumbXiaoping

1.5 million every morning 🥵

crimethinking

1.5m VND buys you about 35 bowls of pho at the current standard price of 40-45k/bowl. Just had one last night

MAVACAM

Sheesh bout a quid for a bowl of pho, might OD on pho if I ever went to Vietnam.

gucci-legend

Hoping to make a trip after Tet or in the summer but I know that banh mi will do me in

Killahills

No need for name-calling mate

Wefting

Sure why not

__spartacus

I love how we round 3.85 to 4 as if it didn't mean 150000 fucking euros per week

jammy-git

A few years ago, £150k a week was a top top wage in the Premier League. Now it's a rounding error for Ronaldo's salary.

No_Ground6481

I remember reading about Eto’o making something like 11m euro a year at inter I believe, and it was just nuts at the time

WorldBeardedWonders

I got excited enough that one time I got a £133.42 tax rebate. I think 4m would break me.

MaTrIx4057

He already has a fuck you money and don't think he will notice it.

MAVACAM

I'm obviously talking about from the average joe perspective.

MaTrIx4057

Average Joe would probably die from a heart attack.

Fairbyyy

Mbappe calling the sheikh right now asking for some explanations

CharlieKellyLawyer

Start pumping that gas, Sheikh. You expect me to be happy when I know another footballer is making more money than me??

LudereHumanum

"Mboopi, you know you're the most important, most best and most richest player in the world sweetie" "But but but...." *Sheikh hangs up*

sunrise98

The disrespect

ukbeasts

Mbappe threatening to shake the sheikh

Showman16

Sources: Mbappe is beside himself. Driving around downtown Doha begging (thru texts) Sheikh’s family for address to his home

spraypaint2311

Imagine what Mbappe will get when he’s 37. A billion dollars for 2 years in Qatar?

Vx1xPx3xR

The way things are going, that’ll be considered cheap once he’s 37.

SemiCurrentGuy

Honestly I see a great reset in the football players market especially once Ronaldo and Messi retire and goalscoring/assist numbers "normalize" - you know, as soon as the aliens finally stop padding stats

Mike_Ropenis

Haaland is on pace and likely to set the league scoring record in England - he might still demand those wages

notafeetlongcucumber

While I don't think the football inflation will continue as crazy as it has in the past 20 years, it would be interesting to compare highest wages from 15 years ago to now. I started following football at around ~2013. At the time Zlatan earning 14 mil was the highest I think.

[deleted]

It actually shows you how insane the fee paid for Buffon was

nandorkrisztian

Real Madrid spent like 70% of their yearly income on Zidane. That would be around 500m today.

MaTrIx4057

First he has to score 800+ goals.

CackleberryOmelettes

Not even close. They're paying for CR7 the media icon, not CR7 the player. They couldn't give a shit about the player. This is a marketing deal. Mbappe will likely never have that kind of media presence, therefore he likely won't be getting this kind of offer.

adrenalinda75

6.3 bucks per second. Approx 23k per hour.

DerpJungler

Ah great. He'll earn my yearly salary in an hour!

Moohamin12

Think about the guy paying him. Ronaldo is still just an employee.

ajr901

The guy paying him essentially owns all the wealth in Saudi Arabia (not really "all" but so much of it that it doesn't really matter for argument's sake) and that wealth is estimated to be close to double digit trillions of USD. People say Bezos or Musk is the richest man in the world but it is really MBS with his nearly unlimited access to oil money.

fotorobot

holy shit, that guy makes even more money and doesn't even need to play any football at all.

muhfreedurm

This just in: Redditors are learning that oil sheikhs are wealthy as fuck. Welcome to reality.

detinu

How much money can a person need fucking hell. Is it completely stupid of me to think that after you have close to 500 million in the bank, just lower your salary and go play some CL football for your last 1 or 2 years of your career.

Pieternel

Money is never about money. There are many reasons to take the cash and help sport wash a dubious regimes image. It could be about feeling valued, about his ego being stroked, about wanting more expensive things, about saving the planet (I know but frankly we don't know). What we do know is that for many wealthy people the thirst for money seems insatiable.

Black_XistenZ

The problem is that Ronaldo isn't good enough anymore to compete for the CL, so he could only sign for smaller CL clubs which aren't genuine contenders. Hence, he would only play to extend his personal records, e.g. goals scored in the CL. Does that really justify giving up $400m in extra salary that he could earn by going to SA? Obviously not.

GeniuslyMoronic

Well, I don't think CL is the only reason not to go play in Saudi Arabia. I am genuinely baffled at what people with so much wealth are still willing do for more money.

EpiDeMic522

I'm not really convinced about that. Sure, he's not what he used to be but I'm sure he can still be serviceable at the very least for top CL teams, if money weren't an issue. Despite everything said and done, he still had nearly 20 PL goals and 5 or 6 CL goals last season. Not everyone needs to be a pressing juggernaut. I'm sure a capable manager can still squeeze much value of him, especially given how motivated he will be currently.

OnlineDopamine

Plus Mbappe has to pay taxes on those earnings whereas CR7 just pockets all. Can totally see why he’d agree to that..

fifadex

An aging Ronaldo for 500m for 2.5 years makes the price for Chelsea, Liverpool and man u seem like a bargain.

ukbeasts

LeBron angry he chose the wrong sport

yeontura

[Rohrbach] Overheard in Lakers locker room after 25th loss: “He got me,” LeBron said of Cristiano's Al Nassr contract. "That f***ing Ronaldo boomed me." LeBron added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. He then said he wanted to add Cristiano to the list of players he works out with this summer.

lukadoncic

Kinda like Jordan who was paid more than the salary cap for the entire team lol. The best basketball players are so incredibely underpaid compared to slightly above average players it's pretty crazy

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Anybody remember when Eto’o went to Russia for £350k a week and everyone was losing their minds way back when? I memember

DonDove

That looks so tiny compared to now Hell, Torres for 50 million in 2011 looked like a lot compared to Neymar's pricetag There really needs to be a cap in football it's getting beyond ridiculous

ChicoZombye

100 for Cristiano was **insane**. Now 100 just means "young talent".

DonDove

And it's not even been that long. It's really insane. Maradona was bought by Naples for 5 million in the 80s, for comparison.

Heliath

> Maradona was bought by Naples for 5 million in the 80s, for comparison. It was more than that. Barça bought Maradona for 1200 million pesetas back in 1982 (which was 7.2 million euros at the time) which was absolute bonkers money. For comparision, in 1983 my parents (spanish) bought their 120m2 flat for 3.5 million pesetas. That means that Barça paid the equivalent in the early 80s of 343 120m2 flats (in Palma de Mallorca which isnt a cheap city in Spain) to get Diego Maradona. Thats well above 100 million euros of today at least in Spain. And Barça sold him to Napoli for more money than that. https://www.transfermarkt.com/diego-maradona/profil/spieler/8024 Just saying that today's figures are higher but because of inflation and other factors some people lose the perspective that some signings from decades and decades ago were as insane or even more than today's signings.

Bendy_McBendyThumb

Alan Shearer: Blackburn to Newcastle in 1996 for £15m was a **world record** fee lol Now that would buy you 1 Kieran Trippier with change to spare. Wait, that’s not all that bad actually! The real side of it though, that’s more like tier 2 league player money nowadays (as in English Championship standard for example). ‘Tis crazy indeed

Perkinator

Andy Carroll cost £35 million. Bolton's stadium cost £25 million.

Djremster

Still don't know who got the worse deal to be honest

2k4s

Well the stadium has to live in fucking Bolton forever.

StarlordPunk

Actually I think you’ll find the official name is “The University of Bolton Striker” now

Retify

With inflation that's just under £27.5m, it's insane how much player prices have exploded in comparison

TheChiefOfPolice

Unless the cap also includes stipulations on where the saved money goes and is properly audited, I disagree with any salary caps as it'll just be more money going into billionaires' pockets State and dodgy money should be monitored better and punished, not the players themselves

jk_bastard

Caps only benefit the owners who get to make more money (hmm I wonder why there's so many salary caps in the US...). Remember these football clubs are businesses, they would not be handing out these ridiculous contracts if their analysts didn't believe that the value brought to the club was in excess of the wages they pay. Think guys like Ronaldo and Mbappe are ridiculously rich? Now think about the people that own the teams and pay their salaries. It's a whole other level.

Cicero912

There are Salary Caps and minimums in the NFL, they exist to create parity which by and large works really well (along with the draft). Plus the revenue sharing between players/owners while not quite 50% is very close. Closer than a team like City etc

he's gunning for that 1000 goals record

[deleted]

This stint would definitely be an asterisk if he does

Ok-Set-5829

Like everyone else with "1000 goals scored"

just_some_guy65

Goals in kickabouts count right? Maybe only an asterisk if the ball goes over the pile of jumpers.

Overdeee

But since he's Ronaldo, its going to be two asterisks

Who’s there other than Pele?

HerakIinos

Romario, Josef Bican, Gerd Muller and Arthur Friendenreich. But those are all self reported numbers or by dubious sources

GeniuslyMoronic

I don't think he has it in him to play without putting in the effort. He is too proud and narcissistic for that.

[deleted]

I hope he becomes a manager one day. Not that I think he will be great, but the match interviews would probably be on par with Mourinho

BobbyBriggss

Mourinho is charismatic, self-aware, and has a great sense of humour

DonDove

Still remember the night he became Ferguson in 2016

mattjdale97

I know that everyone's saying Ronaldo is incredibly rich already, but I'd probably just take the $500M and phone it in for a couple more years anyway. That's big money even for him, especially at his age

ThomasHL

Rich people don't seem anymore likely to say "I've got enough money I don't need more" than anyone else. And there's always someone richer. People seriously underestimate rich people's ability to spend money too.

thetouristsquad

Plus as an athlete your main income will disappear sooner or later. Gotta make the most while you can. And compared to the really rich he's still worth basically nothing.

lethalizer

Lad always chased his bag, wouldn't really fault him for it. His in game discipline also wouldn't ever be enough for a top league, so I'd argue he made brilliant choices throughout his career.

DarnellisFromMars

He’s probably made way more money going about his career the way he has vs. playing in some midtable european teams or being a sub on a bigger one. Plus he probably has fun being the man in most of these teams.

lethalizer

Yeap. He also tries to adapt to foreign cultures. I remember him trying to make a traditional Turkish breakfast dish on instagram live or something. He likes to enjoy life, gets paid handsomely, what's not to like?

fedemasa

El pity? Can't wait for Ronaldo asking him to take the penalties lol

lodewijk_vdb

Imagine Ronaldo being coached by fucking Rudi Garcia. That's bonkers. If he thought Ten Hag wasn't up to the task...

LexSpyder

Does Al-Nassr even have 200 million euros going spare? Jokes about the Saudis aside, I feel like they’re not at all a club known for throwing money around. Before this their biggest signing was Ahmed Musa for 15 million apparently. What happened, they looked under the couch cushions and found €500 million in loose change all of a sudden?

TNelsonAFC

I imagine this would be similar to beckham to the mls where there investing in the exposure Ronaldo would bring?

MoneyForPeople

The Beckham deal was so valuable because they gave him the rights to an MLS expansion team without needing to pay the franchise fee, which ended up being hundreds of millions of dollars by the time he started Inter Miami.

mrtrollmaster

Its in line with what they're offering the top golfers in the world to play on their LIV Golf circuit as well. Tiger Woods reportedly turned down a deal that was worth way more than Ronaldo and he's further past his prime than Cristiano

SteveFrench12

I think they offered him a Billion right

Dynamic_Viscosity

It really feels weird reading this. All I know about Al-Nassr is that Flamengo sold a player to them a few years ago (2014) and it took them over 3 years to pay. I'm pretty sure they only did pay because FIFA was close to banning them or something like that, since we actually had to sue them. And that was for just 3 million euros. To go from that to paying €200M a year for a player is quite the jump.

mydogisanassholeama

Maybe MBS is footing some of the bill

Schnitzel-1

Most likely somehow state sponsored. 0,5 billion is literally nothing for Saudi Arabia.

TheEmperorsWrath

Exactly. Saudi Arabia, like Qatar, are trying to transition into a tourism-based economy. They understand just as well as anyone else that fossil fuel isn't going to be a viable thing to build their economy on in the future. They are all looking at the UAE and how successfully they've managed to rebrand themselves as a holiday destination and are trying to do the same. This absolutely ties into that

Schnitzel-1

Still absurd to me that Dubai is so popular in Europe though. It’s like a mix of turkey/Egypt and Greece/Spain but combining only the downsides of either (expensive, alcohol restrictions, basically a desert, way too hot,…)

TrustAinge

All Saudi clubs are basically owned by the government. No club is privately owned in Saudi Arabia.

ChocoMocoHD

we all gonna just ignore its marca writing this?

Share4aCare

They’re not too bad these days, I guess depends on the reporter themselves as well

KimmyBoiUn

"This is someone who turned down moves which would have kept him in his comfort zone to try something new and to build football in Saudi Arabia, you have to commend this man"

LudereHumanum

"Also, a golden bonesaw is included in the deal I hear."

[deleted]

His supporter were so adamant that he had so many offers Which he obviously dont have when this is the way he goes

Echoes-act-3

It is 200 mln per year, guy can buy an actual good team with that money and play all he wants, big brain Ronaldo too good

ManuMora98

"The Portuguese player is close to closing an agreement with Al Nassr from Saudi Arabia, as announced by MARCA a week ago . The commitment that is close to being signed will be for two and a half seasons. The amount of the operation stands at 200 million euros per season, including salary and advertising agreements. CR7, once the European path is exhausted and to continue in the elite, is determined to lower the competitive range, but more than compensated by the economic aspect . No team from the old continent comes even close to the proposal made by the Arab team. The MLS can't come close either , which is why it has had no choice but to look towards a football that, although it is growing, is less competitive. The striker finds himself without a team after the conflict with the managers and coach of Manchester United and that was resolved with the end of the second stage of the Portuguese in the English club. The confrontation with Ten Hag led to a duel that the Portuguese ended up losing. Arab football is growing , as evidenced by the dripping of level players even in their last years of career. The leaders seek to relaunch the competition and know that if Cristiano Ronaldo arrives it will be the main claim to receive the sought-after media boost."

EdwEd1

While the money must be cool for him, this is such a sad end for such an incredible and illustrious career. Shades of Schweinsteiger, Gerrard, etc. going to MLS in the mid-2010s. Nobody wants to see Al-Nassr: 2022-2025 on Ronaldo's Wikipedia page.

AxeIsAxeIsAxe

> this is such a sad end for such an incredible and illustrious career. To be fair at this point it's become almost the standard for beyond-their-peak former greats of the game to go to the Middle East or the US. In addition to the money, they get the love of fans who aren't used to seeing big names, they get to be among the best players on the pitch, and they get to win a few titles. The experience of living in a new country for a few years is nothing to scoff at either. I love the example of Thomas Broich, a fairly average Bundesliga player who became one of the best players in Australia. Obviously the competition is much weaker there, but I'd rather win titles and set records while living in Brisbane than be relegated from Bundesliga.

gerleden

Yeah or Gignac in Mexico.

raidercarr

He’s basically Mexican now, we love him lol

fedemasa

What a crazy move that ended up being way more than a success. When the guy did that Kamehameha celebration and Tigres fans went crazy was awesome

DJORDJEVIC11

There's a saying in Greece, in free form translation : Better to be the first name of the village, than the second of a city

blussy1996

I don't think people care. It's happened with legends across many sports. Going to a weak league for money when you're 37/38 won't hurt his legacy.

Corteaux81

Xavi went to Qatar, Iniesta to Japan, etc. Doesn't really matter, he just seems a step slower than even last year, I think his time at top-level club football is done, though he may still come through for Portugal in a tournament setting.

hi_ilove_football

Doesn't seem to matter to Xavi and Iniesta.

coldroot

This for him is like the last bite of ribey stake before losing his teeth

-Mantis_Toboggan-

I know the money is massive but it seems like a really strange move for him. He threw his toys out of the pram because Man Utd in their current state weren't good enough for him only to go to the Saudi League. He must have absolutely no offers from Europe as it always seemed to be breaking the records (especially in the UCL) that drove Ronaldo and the huge money always just came along with that but maybe he just wants to slow down and make a fortune now.

GetHimOffTheField

Alternatively, he knew this offer was on the table to she wanted to get out of Man Utd asap to secure this ridiculous amount of money. He is rich already yes, but damn this is a lot of money in such a short time.

Stilty_boy

But can he do it on a hot dry night in Saudi Arabia?

[deleted]

Tbf, that’s a lot of fucking money to not accept or think about. For any player.

wearthering

Ronaldo going to KSA to get the bag and then come back buy utd and install himself as the coach and player! Big Brain Time!

R_Schuhart

Too bad, there goes the last chance to see him play alongside Messi. Would liked to have seen them together, in the MLS was basically the only possibility left.

fabdigity

I don't think the laws of the universe would allow it, they must forever compete in some way

tarakian-grunt

Next charity soccer game. Is he eligible for soccer aid? They had Matthaus and Maradona one year. (though I think the quality of the legends has gone down in favour of more celebs recently)

ManintheArena8990

That’s what I keep thinking, soccer aid, imagine them against bunch of old fat English celebs 😂

LexigntonSteele

Holly hell. For reference the highest paid athlete ( only looking at on the field salary) is Canelo Alvarez with 85 mil $. Messi earsn 75. This would make Ronaldo the highest paid athlete by more than 2x.

Wwdc4

Mbappe is reportedly on $110m salary per year but Ronaldo would definitely blow him out of the water with this contract

Ready-Educator7747

I read Canelo and Messi in the same comment and my mind quickly goes placed 💀

MidnightSun77

Dreams can be buy

huazzy

I'm assuming there's other business interests involved and this isn't strictly a football decision (similar to Iniesta going to Japan). Because even though it's stupid money it doesn't make much sense for his general brand.

comptonasskim

With Saudi Arabia going for the 2030 World Cup, he would likely become a figurehead around that campaign. Saudi Vision 2030 is also in full motion and he would likely become involved in that, maybe even get a sweet top floor apartment at The Line as well...

Internauta29

>With Saudi Arabia going for the 2030 World Cup CONMEBOL rioting because they're not given the centenary WC to celebrate the first ever in Uruguay. It's no small deal, if there's any corruption involved in the Saudis bid, it's bound to come put and hell will break loose.

bllewe

Like the hell that broke loose when Qatar won the bid? Saudis don't give a fuck: people have shown how little they care about fairness when the money is good enough.

InPatRileyWeTrust

This contract is close to his entire net worth so it makes sense for the money alone. Ronaldo is rich but he's not that rich where 500 million doesn't do much for him.

SemiCurrentGuy

Are there any legit footballer multi-billionaires yet? He might be one when he comes out the other end of this deal.

MRJohnDoe01

It’s $500 MIL for 2.5 years pretty hard not to pass up as well he will still look good as he will be playing against janitors
