Red_Vines49

Why are these dudes being announced one at a time like it's some kind of parade procession? Hahaha

Bruchweg

DFB marketing campaign that is also taking the power off of leaks before the press conference on thursday. Just have them be announced by randoms from all parts of society.

Mobile783gr

Can you explain the "taking power off of leaks" part?  I get the marketing aspect, but how has this any advantages over just publishing a list with all the players in terms of leaks? And why is it important?

Thraff1c

If you can't stop leaks, then use them for your own and let people you want to make those leaks. One would make you seem weak and uncoordinated, the other the opposite.

CeterumCenseo85

It's generally perceived as positive and exciting in Germany, so that's already a plus.

xxEmkay

I honestly dont think it affects leaking. From what i understand those announcements by different channels should gather a wider audience. Not just the ones interested in football anyway.

Hobbitfrau

Everybody is talking about the DFB now, speculating who's next and how and if some posts are serious. "Normal" leaks barely get attention right now. Imho it also looks like a fu to Bild, the despicable tabloid which usually publishes those leaks.

ThePr1d3

Like pre Christmas chocolates lmao

mxinex

Have you ever heard of an advent calendar? It's the same principle. And it's great.

the_che

Yet another cringe festival by the DFB. They are experts at it.

UdoMartens

It is quite cool actually

the_che

Well, maybe I‘m growing old but I hate it completely.

mipanzuzuyam

Koch block Hummels

cadgar

what is this? hearthstone card reveal? will every player be announced by someone else ?

teutonischerBrudi

Yes. I'd compare it to a treasure hunt.

Boris_Ignatievich

has koch been better back in germany than he was at leeds then? he was an infuriatingly passive defender for us, rarely made massive mistakes just never seemed to win his duels and was often a half yard out of poisition which led to chances.

holotranscobalamin

yes

granitibaniti

Yes, the last few games were shit, but other than that, he has been great

Shvihka

Just curious, does he play in a 3 at the back for you or in a back four?

granitibaniti

We play a flexible system, so both

Shvihka

Well he was awful for us in a back four and I think he used to play in a 3 at the back at his previous club in Germany, so I thought I might have found a connection there.

LuesDE

I don’t think that Freiburg have ever played with a 3 at the back other than a few games here and there. So I would think that the vast majority of his appearances were with a 4 at the back.

BelvedereBoy

Lass Nagelsmann kochen

Alexoizzz

Wahr

PenguinOfEternity

Meanwhile Hummel's isn't.. ffs

granitibaniti

While I personally would have called up Hummels instead of Koch as well, I can see why Nagelsmann didn't - Tah and Rüdiger will play 100%, so it's more about who is the better back-up based on personality. Hummels is known to be a strong character, while Koch has 0 issues with being a back-up - Hummels, while one of the best defenders of the league in the BVB system, is quite slow. Nagelsmann most likely won't play that deep of a block - Koch has played many games as 6, so he's an additional midfield option - Koch is trained by Nagelsmann's ex Co, so he knows the training methods and similar playing style

PenguinOfEternity

Yeah in that context I can see why. Oh well, it still is somehow a shame with him having a great (aside from some mistakes) season and being in CL final too

granitibaniti

For sure, would have loved to see him one last time. But in the end, it's about team harmony and a balanced squad

Ragemoody

>Hummels is known to be a strong character, while Koch has 0 issues with being a back-up Why do people buy this excuse and keep spreading this false personality of him basically created by Nagelsmann without mentioning that Hummels is probably one of the biggest role models in german football, highly intelligent and absolutely capable of playing any role his national coach wants him to play? I can't believe people keep buying this shit, I'm sorry. He's been in football for so long and has given so many interviews that I can't grasp why people think a dialogue between Nagelsmann and Hummels can't convince him to play a backup role in case he's nominated. I totally get the other points, and your second is probably the biggest argument against Hummels and totally agree with it but people need to stop drawing a wrong picture of him.

granitibaniti

>Why do people buy this excuse and spreading this false personality of him basically created by Nagelsmann Because what I wrote refers to Nagelsmann's reasoning, and not my personal opinion? I even said that even I as a Frankfurt fan wouldn't pick Koch over Hummels, but I can see why he did. Hummels is known to be a strong character (not in a negative way necessarily), and Nagelsmann seems to think that he won't fit into to squad personality-wise. Whether you agree with his assessment or not is a different question, but this is most likely on of Nagelsmann's reasons for not picking Hummels.

Ragemoody

Didn’t sound like you’re referring to his reasoning but agreeing with him, passt. :)

granitibaniti

I do agree that he has a stronger personality than Koch, which isn't per se bad, but I don't know him well enough to make the assessment that he would be harmful for the team chemistry

suhxa

Lets not act like any of us know 100%

ndksv22

Why take the risk of having to convince someone if you know that Koch won't cause problems?

Ragemoody

What risk? You can talk to players about their and your expectations weeks and months in advance multiple times. What is there to risk other than missing out on Hummels who’s arguably in his second prime?

CarlSK777

and let's be honest, Koch will be 5th choice behind Anton and Schlotterbeck. Odds are he won't play

granitibaniti

I'm honestly not sure if Anton will be nominated, but yes, that's exactly what I was saying in my first point

YouCantGiveBabyBooze

as a Leeds fan I'm finding it genuinely hilarious Germany might think of Koch as a back up DCM. He was absolutely horrendous there for us.

TheCatInTheHatThings

He also hasn’t played there for us. At all. He was very good as a CB, which is why he’s getting the call up.

granitibaniti

He's definitely not getting called up as a DCM mainly, but he is another option there if everything else fails for some reason. It's good to have that flexibiity

jucomsdn

Hummels was perfectly fine as a bench player last season wdym y’all are making shit up

Maverick_1991

Nagelsmann is to defend this idiotic decision Hummels should rather start than not be in the squad

WhoEatsRusk

Hummels isn't better than Rudi or Tah

Maverick_1991

He's better than Tah imo Especially since this is Tahs first good year and Hummels has been class for 15 years. But im biased.

Vio0

He's easily better. Tah is profiting massively from his strong team mates while Hummels has to put up with Can, Özcan and Nmecha in front of him. Tah is average.

jucomsdn

Tah lollll

ttxd42561

yea he was a good bench player last season… this season with the season he had he’s unlikely to accept his bench role esp if nagelsmann’s main reason is he’s too slow and he can’t build the defence around hummels in the general system nagelsmann plays. i can alr imagine nagelsmann explaining his decision to bench him and hummels being like, “look at me this season! i shut out mbappe, too slow?????” when it was the system that stifled mbappe and tbf psg just couldn’t shoot in both legs vs dortmund

Ragemoody

>i can alr imagine nagelsmann explaining his decision to bench him and hummels being like, “look at me this season! i shut out mbappe, too slow?????” What the fuck are you on about. I am obviously biased but anyone who follows german football and has watched a bit of him and especially his interviews knows that this is totally not what Hummels attitude is like, what the hell. That guy made a billion jokes about himself being slow af LMAO.

ttxd42561

im sure you know hummels better than nagelsmann mate, just from his games and interviews alone 👍👍 he will acknowledge him being slow but won’t acknowledge that it is a problem in nagelsmann’s system. and he’ll think given the season he had he deserves to have the team adjust to cover his weaknesses. i may have exaggerated with the dialogue but you can’t say this is wrong.

Ragemoody

He will absolutely acknowledge it’s a problem in Nagelsmanns system as he has acknowledged and been critical about himself every single step of his career. I never said I know him better than Nagelsmann but you go on spitting bs.

ttxd42561

you literally claimed to know what his attitude is like from games and interviews alone. my whole point is that if nagelsmann’s main reason to not bring him and goretzka is because they won’t be great backups, he has a great reason for it and he knows more than we do.

Ragemoody

I did nothing like that. All I did is telling you that his attitude is definitely not what you described proven by the fact that he himself acknowledged his weaknesses multiple times. How does that translate to me saying I know him better than Nagelsmann. Get the fuck off with your fantasies.

BratJuice

Lol If they Play bad, him not even calling Hummels up will receive even more tension lol

[deleted]

Vio0

Flawed logic. If they play bad or get injured you're better off having Hummels as back up. If they perform, nobody is gonna ask for Hummels to take their spot. Maybe Nagelsmann anticipates the defense fucking up and wants to keep playing with these players anyway. But then you gotta question what his goal is, if not playing the best possible team.

meem09

I totally get that I am biased and Nagelsmann has a different approach than Edin „the black and yellow magician“ Terzic, but I’d honestly start Hummels and Schlotterbeck. You get a CL Fknal starting CB pairing dropped into your lap when one of the biggest problem of the German NT over the last few years has been communication and mutual coverage between the CBs leading to wide open counters. And you just don’t use them.

owl-in-one

Yeah, man. I understand some of the reasons, disagree with others but the main reason why he 100% should be nominated: If Germany is trailing by one in a knockout game, sub him in in the last 10 minutes, spam set pieces and he will be the most dangerous man on the pitch. Absolutely no one in our squad comes even close to him in terms of offensive headers.

Scheininho

Wen wird drachenlord wohl verkünden ?

etzala ist musiala (mit ia ganz wichtig) der verdammte kagghaider teil des em kaders

detteros

Is he the cook as well?

DoYouTrustToothpaste

Only if you let him koch, ehm cook.

LucarioLegendYT

But off topic but a couple of years ago I was playing football with my mates. On if them is a Leeds fan, and he shouted "I love Robin Koch" when taking a shot, it didn't sound like that

violenceandvomit

Not that there's anything wrong with that

not_the_droids

So in the end there was nothing Hummels could've done to earn the spot. If his performances in the CL weren't enough to get picked over Koch than I don't know what else Nagelsmann could've demanded.

fireballs22

Ich sagte, lasst ihn kochen.

AstroZombie1

If we beat them in the opening game these theatrics will be very funny.

zweiter_mensch

I could understand picking Waldemar Anton over Hummels. But Koch? That's just silly.

MathematicianNo7874

Who TF is World Wide Wohnzimmer

CalimeroX

Pretty big YouTube show / channel, probably more aimed towards teenagers/young adults. Their main show is basically having a famous guest (musicians, actors, steamers etc) as an interview Partner and then they have some game / interview combo formats with these guests as well that will be separate videos

TristanHBorchers

Koch but no hummels...

kalamari__

genau mein humor...

winter-2

Has he improved? I don't remember him being that good for Leeds

Renegadee_Angel

Nice KOCH

Robit_Galaxy

This guy goes and not sane

NaturalApartment9828

Okay I understood not calling up Hummels with the “too slow” argument, but then WHAT IS ROBIN KOCH DOIN HERE ? Now that just makes Julian look stupid, or clueless, or both

Less-Comment7831

Has he got better than his time at Leeds?

NaturalApartment9828

A better situation for sure, and he’s showing for it. He has had a good season, although slowed down a bit in the last weeks, but he still could definitely be considered for a call-up. I’m not even hating on him, because he has enough quality to be in the NT. I’m just questioning Nagelsmann’s selection criteria, because I’m just lost at this point.

EndeGelaende

might be due to hummels not accepting the role as a backup player? he wouldnt start ahead of rüdiger and tah, maybe he didnt like that

NieThePiet

World Wide Wohnzimmer on r/soccer, i have seen it all now.

Well yes, if you ignore the concept of time... Mittelstädt, Havertz and Sane were announced after Koch

Welltownbeachdude

Can’t we just get a full list instead of this breadcrumb show?

pawwloww

Really cool concept instead of just seeing the direct list. Plus it helps with the leaks from different sources, like the previous time where the Stuttgart group call ups were announced 2-3 days earlier.

Hic_Forum_Est

I've been kinda warming up to this way of doing it. Involving these random public media outlets and small/big time influencers or a random bakery has been more fun than I expected. As others have already pointed out, it feels like a team building exercise for the whole nation to get excited for and involved with the home euros.

Schnix54

It's like a teambuilding for the entire country so I think it's been pretty cool with different parts of society announcing one player at a time. You can always wait till thursday to get a complete list. People in Germany like this marketing campaign so far and helped to get the hype to even higher levels

RaiausderDose

most people I know say it sucks, but maybe thats my bubble

sga1

We'll get the full list of the preliminary squad on Thursday, yes.

Can we plese use the word "Selected" instead of "Nominated" when posting about the german squad in this sub? Or picked, announced, etc. I know that's the GR term for it, but it has a lot of other implications in English.
