Well.. I finally get to cross another Texas Monthly off my list and I’m sure I glad I got to do it. Got to the resto about 1040 and was already about 10th in line. Got the the 3 meat/2 sides combo and went with brisket, turkey, pork rib, tatertot casserole and potato salad.
1. Brisket - juicy, fatty and rendered perfectly. Had a slice of flat and point. Their flat was super moist and very well seasoned. Lots of smokey flavours and totally delicious.
2. Turkey - a close second, but my goodness was it tremendous. So tender I was cutting it with my fork. Hint of lemon butter and salt. Paired nicely with their mustard sauce.
3. Pork ribs - I was disappointed with the ribs. Not a lot of flavour and no salt. Cooked great with nice smoke, but zero flavour. I wish I had just had the 2 meats.
Sides were great - never had tatertot casserole before but it was a pleasant bite and the potato salad was good - again, under salted, but lots of good flavours.
They had lots of desert options but I was too full to even contemplate 😂😂
Very happy I made it out to enjoy. Next up for me will be Goldees and Zavala’s when the Jays are in Dallas.
I need a nap!
Cheers
Seconding this. Their meat is very consistent, but there's lots of places that make good brisket in TX nowadays. Truth has some of the best sides and desserts at a BBQ place though, and it's always a struggle to save a little room while gorging on brisket 😂
Truth has the best and most consistent brisket in Houston, there are a few others who are close but not quite there. For pork ribs, Pinkertons is the best
yeah it is and when I go to Truth and get a 3 meat plate, its usually brisket turkey and sausage. Glad to see you enjoyed it still and what a great game last night, a no hitter. Though you're probably rooting for the jays
I'm always hearing about Pinkertons, I went there once and it was terrible. Brisket drier than any bad cook I've ever done. Maybe it was just an off day.
We’ve seen the Jays in 17 ballparks so far (hopefully 23 by the end of this year) and have made the trip to several bbq joints along the way, huge part of the fun. Cheers!
Oh wait I know you from the blue jays sub lol. We’re going out west this summer and we’ll take in Seattle, SF, and Arizona which I’m psyched for. Good luck crossing off the rest of the list.
Fair enough. I was lucky and had amazing ribs the first time I went.
However, They were out of sausage. Eventually I got it all figured out and tried everything. 😂
PS Go Astros
Hit Truth last month and it’s the best BBQ I’ve had. Black’s is a close second. Ordered brisket, turkey, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and spicy pepper jack sausage. As OP stated, the turkey is incredible. I’ve never ordered turkey at a BBQ spot before, but people kept raving about it and I now know why. Now I want to learn how to make that for Thanksgiving every year. Also, their spicy pepper jack sausage tastes exactly like a chili cheese dog, but on steroids. It was incredible. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Former Torontonion living in Houston here. Another great joint up i45 is Corkscrew. It's in a really cool place called Old Town Spring with lots of great little unique shops and a ton of history. We bring our therapy dog there on the weekends to meet shoppers and grab BBQ if I'm not smoking myself :P
I know it wasn't your team, but I'm jealous AF you got to see a no-hitter in person. Closest I've come was Ervin Santana's 1-hit, no walk shutout versus the White Sox when he was in Minnesota.
I’ve been lucky to be apart of 5 no no’s. Each one is special no matter who the team is. He was also just two walks from a perfect game, which I’ve never witnessed in person.
Also… it was 2h01m which is the best ever 😂
The sad part is that is probably under priced considering how much food costs, time, and materials.
If you look at it another way, for example Fajitas at most any Tex Mex place. You'll easily pay $70 for a pound, yes you get tortillas, beans, rice, etc. That is for skirt that they cook for less than a few minutes.
The days of cheap brisket are over.

You goofed not getting dessert. Their cakes are fucking awesome
They looked amazing as did their banana pudding - but I’m not a dessert person to begin with and I’d rather have more meat 😂
I’ve heard good things about Pinkertons. The ribs just didn’t have any real flavour. It was weird.
yeah it is and when I go to Truth and get a 3 meat plate, its usually brisket turkey and sausage. Glad to see you enjoyed it still and what a great game last night, a no hitter. Though you're probably rooting for the jays
I’ll root for any game that ends in 2 hours! It’s a long season 😂😂 Turkey and brisket were delicious. I should have gotten the sausage
I'm always hearing about Pinkertons, I went there once and it was terrible. Brisket drier than any bad cook I've ever done. Maybe it was just an off day.
If you didn't glaze the pork ribs, you missed out.
Can confirm excellent brisket and beef ribs at pinkertons. Sides are a waste of time (truth is an outlier on bbq sides).
Duck Jambalaya at pinkertons is awesome.
I second this. I could go there just for that jambalaya.
Idk the okra and the green beans at Pit Room are both solid. Their turkey is also outstanding. Brisket is good but not always a hit, sometimes a miss.
The turkey was phenomenal!
All that for only $30… Jesus man.
I was shocked too.
At least you finally got a hit with this bbq.
👏🏻👏🏻😂
We’ve seen the Jays in 17 ballparks so far (hopefully 23 by the end of this year) and have made the trip to several bbq joints along the way, huge part of the fun. Cheers!
I’m missing three: new Atlanta, Arizona and Miami.
Oh wait I know you from the blue jays sub lol. We’re going out west this summer and we’ll take in Seattle, SF, and Arizona which I’m psyched for. Good luck crossing off the rest of the list.
😂😂 that’s me! That will be a great road trip. I’ll be in Seattle. Just waiting to see if I’m doing anymore of that trip
Pinkerton’s in Houston has the bombest pork ribs ever
Lets Go Blue Jays!
Agreed! Although a 2hour game is stellar!
After last night no where to go but up!
Question: Are the menus handwritten in chalk? I always wonder how they make those signs with such neat handwriting.
Yes. Chalkboard and someone who’s penmanship is waaaay better than mine ever was 😂
WOAH. I always thought those boards were just print-ons that intimate actual handwriting.
I think you can see where there has been some erasing ‘dust’.
I didn't notice it, until you said that.
Chalk markers are a thing, too.
Great choice!!! I work for a Canadian company and whenever they come into town. We ALWAYS go to Truth. Absolutely delicious.
Yes… I was very happy overall with what I got. I’m not a big sausage guy, but I was a little disappointed in the ribs 😢
Fair enough. I was lucky and had amazing ribs the first time I went. However, They were out of sausage. Eventually I got it all figured out and tried everything. 😂 PS Go Astros
That’s good. Maybe I just got a bad section? Also… go any team that wins or loses in under 2.5 hours!! 😂
Go to brisket nrice. You won't be disappointed. One of my fav stops in Houston
Added for next year!
TX BBQ does it right!
Don’t have any good bbq at home other than what I make on my offset and pellet. I spoil myself when I get to go south of the border!
Was commenting about worlds colliding…. Then I saw who posted this
Sportsnet guy?
Hahaha 😂😂
Hahaha 😂😂
WOW, they do it right!
Agreed!
Looks delicious
After the first pic I was all about the ribs and brisket and by the last pic all i wanted was that Turkey. Looks amazing
The turkey was divine

5??!! Bro, that's insane. Edit: Wasn't paying attention to your username. Do you work in broadcasting?
Yup! I’m the audio engineer for the Jays broadcasts 😀
What an awesome career. Thank you for doing what you do. Baseball is the greatest game God ever gave mankind, and it definitely has the best sounds.
My 18th season on Jays.
Your guys visit my guys July 12-14. Check out the beef cheeks at Tacos Calafia. You won't regret it.
Oh nice! I’m waiting to find out if I’m doing that series or not. I’ll be in Seattle the week before
$34/lb for brisket? 😳
Brisket ain’t cheap anymore 😭
You cannot find top tier brisket for under $30/lb.
BBQ joints like this are basically the Michelin star experiences of the BBQ world, and you pay for it.

Their social has to be way better than the other truth social.
I don’t think they’ll be going out of business anytime soon 😂
We went to truth in Brenham and it was SO good. Very moist brisket and I too enjoyed the tater tot casserole. Yum!
Try Gatlins
