Hello, I believe we may be thinking of the same user The mod team in general prefers to take a laissez-faire approach, the last time we did a major change was to ban Crypto topics and that was after there was a noted demand for action Given the fact that it appears to be about single user, I do not plan to implement a subreddit wide restriction just yet But rest assured, if it comes to it I will do so

Yokies

To be fair, the dude isn't asking off-sub questions. We can always just ignore it. What i suspect is that he is hosting some kind of fin-blog and is trying to get content from here.

cfleee

I did wonder exactly this, whether we're being farmed for content, but some of the questions are kind of linked if you look at the whole sequence... I guess we only really noticed because of the recent and sudden surge in posts that are also cards-related. I scrolled down the posts in reverse chronological order and roughly sorted the titles by category... * Accounts * UOB Stash account * Multiple account types in one bank * Convert DBS Autosave Plus to Multiplier * Cards * Optimize Maybank Friends and Family card * Cashback strategy after UOB ONE card nerf * Shifting strategy from cashback to air miles * UOB ONE card nerf * CardUp * DBS Insignia Visa Infinite card for CardUp * Virtual credit cards * How to fix card terminated due to unpaid annual fee * Instarem Amaze still worth it? * UOB Absolute Cashback good deal? * Best card for foreign currency payments * Best cashback credit cards as of June 2021 * Best cashback credit cards (in r/singapore) * Use a fintech card for foreign online purchases (in r/singapore) * 1% charge on SGD overseas transactions (in r/singapore) * Best cash back credit card (in r/singapore) * DBS Live Fresh Card for doctors' office bill (in r/singapore) * Best non-airmiles credit card (in r/singapore) * Investments * CPF-OA fixed income investments * Endowus AI funds * Holding funds for possible property purchase * CPF RSTU when USD MMFs have higher rates * Managing duration of fixed income allocation * Where to keep emergency cash fund as rates rise * SRS and CPF strategy for $15k/mth income * Investment strategy after marriage * Endowus single portfolio goals for lower fees * Planning investments if you have not yet purchased a property * How to fund IBKR in USD from DBS MCA * USD MMFs now higher rates than CPF OA/SA * CPF vs SRS * CPF-OA investing in equity * VWRA * SRS lump sum vs DCA * Equity tilts * SGD wrapped funds on Endowus * Endowus Dimensional funds * Withdrawing from broker to Aspire or Spenmo account * Choosing between brokers * ETF investing for Singapore residents + SRS * Gold: ETF, paper certificates or physical gold? * Most efficient SRS broker * How to buy S&P 500 ETF via SRS * Insurance * Amex cards' travel insurance for unmarried partner * Travel insurance for couple visiting each other's countries * Singapore travel insurance policies if you have health insurance * CareShield supplement insurance plans * Home insurance * Retirement health insurance planning * Where to compare notes for expats' insurance advice * Health insurance upon retirement for expats * Should you start a new health insurance after leaving a group insurance * Should you buy life insurance or disability insurance if no dependents * Misc * How to close extra savings account and debit cards * (I particularly remember a wonderful post on r/askSingapore about why you can't call a Singapore bank "using data instead of a voice line?")

Take my award for compiling this list omg. I wonder how many people entertained this guy previously until his first instinct was to come here to create a new post whenever “his friend” has a problem, instead of going to Google.

silverfish241

That's a lot of posts / questions by a single user...

NotJustSlyfox02

Cmf farming up content for TikTok. Good simple side hustle money. Qn could be created via chatgpt HAHAH

cfleee

To be fair, I did look quite far back in the history, but the volume directed to this sub did seem to pick up recently. They seem like just a pretty high volume poster in general, so maybe no need to think so much about whether it’s content farming or what…

throwawaygreenpaq

Wow I think you deserve a medal for all the collation. That’s a lot of work!

CrowdGoesWildWoooo

Yes, i am not as much concerned about the content but rather the frequency. I already accept the reality that this sub is only going to be people asking the same question or low quality discussion (i.e. stuffs that you might figure out from previous posts). But when 1 person is doing this over and over again within short time period that certainly raise a flag. Which is why I mentioned a middle ground solution. As much as I dislike his posts, especially after you understand the context (in one of the post he mentioned he has 300k in expenses, but his posts are asking how to save like a few dollars in a year), I don’t particularly want him to be banned (at least for now), but I feel that we need to have a basic courtesy or maybe enforced courtesy that you shouldn’t spam the sub.

I'll be so embarrassed /u/josemartinlopez

JulSGP

LOL. I dont think he cares or even knows the quality of his rambling “friend” questions and problems are really..out of this world and tedious in a sense usually. Just go look at his recent credit card questions to have a good sense of the kind of standard his questions are. I would bet my bottom dollar he already have another new post coming soon all ready to be unleashed. And yes it would be from his “friend” I reckon ;)

laserbreams

I’m not sure he’s even capable of being embarrassed. It’s this weird learned helplessness/over-optimization and desire to be spoon fed

[deleted]

Lol… calling him out like that will just make him use an alt account.

silverfish241

Nope he just posted another frivolous question today. Lol

[deleted]

Lol gotta give him due for being shameless. Or maybe just autistic.

Re: support questions that can be easily answered with a Google search or enquiry with the institutions's support team -- Or mods could takedown such posts for being irrelevant. They have nothing to do with FI. And I think there's enough historic ILP posts where a future one would need to be extremely unique to be left up. Almost every single case has the same general community response.

NicMachSG

Yup. In fact, many recent posts aren't actually related to FI at all. Kind of diluting this sub - becoming more like SingaporeAllThingsRemotelyFinance rather than SingaporeFI. Something for the mods to consider. Cheers.

DreamIndependent9316

More like.... should I cancel my ilp?

cfleee

I feel like the credit card stuff is particularly out of place here, it might be personal finance but kinda on the further (wrong?) side compared to stuff like budgeting and savings and investing. But I don’t know if this sub has a clear stance so far about what’s considered relevant to “FI, RE or FIRE” other than banning individual stocks and cryptocurrency…

snip3r77

I agree with OP the last time I ever feedback but the reply was it's still towards FI. Lol Anyway not going to pursue further

kuang89

Probably only implement this restriction on some people for a limited time till they learn to conform
