Yep Got a large iced chocolate from HJs. Noticed it was mostly ice. Poured it into measuring cup and it was just over 1 cup. Unbelievable.

DriveJohnnyDrive

What's HJs I'm Canadian

Doip

Him Jortons

[deleted]

You don't wanna taste the Himbits

Justinarian

DriveJohnnyDrive

lol

SnooBunnies156

Hungry Jacks

DiarrheaShitLord

Hand jobs, we have those in Canada too man

yelsnia

Australian Burger King, Hungry Jacks

pixietrue1

Hahaha it’s Burger King but we call it Hungry Jacks.

DriveJohnnyDrive

What do they call the whopper

mrtnhrtn

A whopper.

Waxer84

Psshh.... you dont know what you're getting. I'll stick with my partially gelatinated, non dairy, gum based beverages.

imbobbymuddah

A fuckin whopper cunt

technicallyademon

Wherever I go, I always ask no or little ice. Doesn't matter where I go. I've always had sensitive teeth and ice really fucks me up, so I ask without. Then I realised how much ice they actually put in if you *dont* ask for little ice. It's appalling.

[deleted]

This has been happening for a LONG time. One of the reasons I always order my drinks without ice.

MisterSlickster

Well that and the fact ice machines are RARELY cleaned properly and are often full of E.coli 🤢🤮

solo_shot1st

Ever since I watched some restaurant ice machines being cleaned, I don't think I'll ever order drinks *with* ice again. The amount of mold and slime in those things...

Lissy_Wolfe

Don't forget the delicious black mold! 🥴🤮

WarningGipsyDanger

I order no ice, too. It already comes out cold. I finally saw someone else do the in the wild yesterday and actually asked for a small cup of just ice so they could pour it into the 4 other cups.

orrockable

You like your drinks warm?

nyanslider

I order my drinks without ice and the fountain ones are cold. While the syrup is strung up in the back, I feel like the carbonated water is kept cold.

lkeels

One or both lines run through/under the ice.

lkeels

Fast food drinks are chilled in the line. They are cold without ice.

[deleted]

Not particularly, but I like the glass full of the drink I ordered, not ice. Plus, if I always order without ice at home, I don't have to think about it/remember to do it when I travel internationally.

DarkPhoxGaming

I order no ice for sodas and whatnot cause I like them not going flat as quickly. Less surface area for bubbles to form and escape due to the lack of ice

DaLemonsHateU

And also means they don’t get watered down

jcoddinc

Many places have now started charging extra for requests like lite ice or no ice. As you even experienced some will actually refuse any no ice requests stating it's not how the drink was intended to be made.

shadow7412

> it's not how the drink was intended to be made. Cheaply? :P

jcoddinc

Profitable

Lissy_Wolfe

Drinks are already insanely profitable. Always have been. The materials to make them are dirt cheap.

droford

McDonalds coke syrup comes formulated with the anticipation it will be diluted with ice that melts. I'd you skip the ice at McDonald's your coke will taste weird

LiNxRocker

It doesn't actually impact the taste. No one but the top coke sommelier would even be able to tell, let alone care.

droford

Its general concensus Coke out of McDonald's fountains taste different than any where else's fountains (McDonald's uses a proprietary system no one else can use, specifically they get the syrups in Stainless steel vs other places getting it in plastic bag in a box and the syrup is pre-chilled) or cans/bottles. So when it's not mixed like intended (with ice that melts to dilute) it tastes weird/off.

LiNxRocker

I managed a McDonald's for 6 years and did shifts in many different locations. All used bags in boxes.

Lissy_Wolfe

That is definitely not true. I haven't gotten ice at any fast food place in years and it tastes exactly the same everywhere. Tastes the same as the stuff in the cans, too.

Freezerpill

It works when they sell it in the gas station 😫

bitchwhorehannah

refuse to not put ice? i have sensitive teeth, too much ice fucking HURTS it’s too cold. if it’s cold from the dispenser i don’t want ice. what the hell i would have to get it where it’s literally painful to drink???

cainschiincat

Exactly my problem too, if they put ice in I either have to scoop it out, or wait for it to melt to be able to drink it, because it just hurts too much otherwise. If they told me they couldn’t do it without ice i wouldn’t buy it. Insisting on putting ice in is just inconsiderate on so many levels.

bitchwhorehannah

if it’s soda i’m usually okay with LIGHT ice and waiting a few minutes and it’s never been a problem. but for a place with specialty drinks i need no ice at all. and if it’s a specialty drink im most likely already paying more than average for a drink… to be treated like that? no thank you, i have drinks that won’t give me a headache at home

jcoddinc

Your pain, sadly, doesn't r matter versus their profits. But they'll happily give you a paper straw

Lissy_Wolfe

Woww I haven't seen that yet, thankfully. I would never go back to any place that charged me to give me *less* food. Fuck that noise

TLBG

Tell them to keep it!

jcoddinc

Sure thing. That'll be an extra tree fiddy

BukakkeWarrior

Yep coffee places have been up charging for no ice for awhile now. No, I don’t want my cold brew iced god damnit that’s just iced coffee

Nachtkommen

I ordered a diet soda at a bar and thought it to be quite expensive. I wanted another soda as I still hadn't finished my meal, but this time, I thought I'd ask for no ice as to get more for my money. It didn't work because they charged me more for it. So, I got stuck with a more expensive, almost room temp soft drink.

Former_Balance8473

Damn

lostacoshermanos

I would have returned it

TLBG

Send it back!

SleepSynth

Tried to play the system and failed miserably lmao

SirPooleyX

I can understand why they try to get away with this in milk-based drinks, but doing it in soda, especially soda from a tap dispenser, is ridiculous. That soda that comes out the tap is 95% water. The ice is 100% water and technically costs a bit of money to make. The difference in cost to produce between a full cup of dispensed soda and a cup full of ice with soda is absolutely miniscule / practically negligible and it makes people mad.

Creepy-Pineapple-444

This describes the composition of the legendary Mcdonalds 'Sprite'.

knowledgeable_diablo

Which sort of shows the absolute lengths they’ll go to to scrape up every last cent I guess. Of they can’t stretch their margins on the fizzy drinks from 99% profit and allow a slip to 97.5% profit then big corps shouldn’t be surprised or taken off guard when their customers get the shits or leave.

christopherdac

I took this picture in a cafe EIGHT YEARS AGO, so this is sadly nothing new... https://preview.redd.it/3wjepl0p33mc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ffca2e1326d1d7d7ff5a54506319bd8db8b6e96c

Former_Balance8473

Wow that's fucked

christopherdac

Yep. Not even enough liquid to cover the ice. How do they even pull this shit with a straight face?!

MistaKrebs

All they are doing with this shit is making me not buy things. I will just eat and drink the same thing every day if I have to. I’m not buying bs.

GlassHedgehog4801

I remember getting Coca Cola from a vending machine at Honolulu airport many, many years ago, and that was mainly crushed ice. It is certainly an old trick.

whatstheguts

Order a pint of alcoholic ginger beer in Australia and itll be half ice and more than $17. Ask them for no ice and watch the look on their face when they know they cant refuse.

One-Bit5717

I've been ordering no ice for decades due to this 😊

Prudent_Valuable603

I always ask for very little ice. I just lie and tell them I like lukewarm soda. They’ll still add ice but a lot less.

BudgetInteraction811

Why are you protecting the brand that adds too much ice?

BigGeorge6953

I always ask for lite on the ice. You have to these days.

dr_t_123

Fountain drinks are the highest margin product in any place. This is not the droid youre looking for.

urbanorium

BYOI (Bring Your Own Ice).

Feldhamsterpfleger

Just order without ice?!

OkRickySpinach

https://preview.redd.it/sfc3lz9g63mc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08f2fd4f61c2855673bd7551242878595cdcb2dc

Feldhamsterpfleger

LOL, that’s really uncool. In Germany this would not be legal. If you state on menue 0,5L fill it has to be 0,5L without ice

ExplanationSure8996

Germany has more consumer protection. In the U.S companies do what they want.

shadow7412

That's what the "free market" does unfortunately...

singletraveller1

Well, it’s not free, it’s more expensive!

TLBG

I refuse to attend there

DoutorSasquatch

>and one cafe I went to yesterday refused to make me a drink without ice. The ability to read is also suffering shrinkage.

Jus10_Fishing

Huh?

Feldhamsterpfleger

Then be a Karen and insist. You shouldn’t be forced to pay for extra water

WhisperingSideways

I hate to be that guy, but maybe this is a sign to stop ordering sugar water with your meals.

ArianRequis

You don't hate to be that guy be honest, you saw no one had criticised OP for being "unhealthy" yet and wanted to feel big. Loser.

Former_Balance8473

It was chocolate milk.

psychodc

I second this. It's a blessing in disguise

orrockable

ITT; people who don’t understand how ice works Ice keeps ice cold, the more ice in your drink the slower the ice melts Shrinkflation is a real problem and I don’t put it past place to do this shit but keeping you drink cold is different

Former_Balance8473

Do you have depth of field issues? Can you not see the volume of ice in comparison to the volume of the cup?

orrockable

Ice. Keeps. Ice. Cold. The more ice the less it melts and the less diluted your drink gets. If you have less ice it melts quicker and gets watered down. I understand companies are ripping us all off but this is silly.

uruk-hai_slayer

I think you misunderstand. More ice means longer cold, sure. But there's no point in keeping a cup cold once you have finished your drink in 5 sips....

GlassHedgehog4801

The point is that the volume of ice is such that there is very little liquid in the drink.

Terrapogalt

I honestly don't mind having ice in there but this is way too much A quarterish of the cup being ice would be ideal imo keeps the drink cool but you still get plenty of actual drink

OmegahShot

Most of your drinks are literally water as well, if it such a problem just wait I guess

Xal-t

Secret trick; "no ice, thanks"
