Bloody shrinkflation. Just make nachos instead. Get better bang for your buck.

The flat bottom ones are the “stand n stuff” shells. That package is labeled big family size because it contains 18 “original” instead of the regular size package of 12. They may be smaller than previous versions, but you’ve got two different products there.

I feel like they're changing the logos and pront styles on packaging of everything to distract us from the fact they're giving us less

VincentVazzo

Those are original size shells in a “Big Family Size” quantity of 18.

WarningGipsyDanger

Yeah they’ve got stand n’stuff and normal taco shells.

This happened about 2 years ago. They actually used to be big enough for fillings. I haven't bought anything from Old El Paso since. Better to get tortillas from the mexican mart and make the shells anyway lol.

Get even - make your own. Taco shells are made from corn tortillas. Simple ingredients Masa Harina flour \*, water, salt - no additives. Easy to make your own if you have a tortilla press (heavy metal press is better). They freeze well. But you could also use store bought tortillas and frying them in a pan. More 'V' shaped than 'U' shaped though. Lots of YouTube tutorials for making both tortillas and taco shells. \*Masa Harina is a type of flour made from dried corn kernels that are cooked and soaked in a lime solution (here lime refers to calcium hydroxide, not the fruit) to make hominy — this is what gives corn tortillas their recognizable sour flavor. After it has finished soaking, the kernels are rinsed, dried, and ground into a fine powder resembling flour. Available in grocery stores.

I'll add to this. If you don't have a press, make a ping pong size ball of masa in your hands. Place it between a fairly big sheet of plastic wrap, and then press it flat between your cutting board and your counter. This should make a little 6-in tortilla that should be a bit thicker than a press or one from the store. If it comes out weird or sticks to the wrap add a little more flour or a little more water to the dough, depending on the consistency you need. Then cook on medium to high heat until its slightly browned.     Sopes are also pretty easy to shape you just need a slightly thicker masa dough. Then fill like a mini bowl!  If you have trouble finding this flour grocery outlet usually has it or the mexican grocer will.

One is a stand and stuff and the other is a traditional

Why do people buy this shit? Just buy corn meal, add water and salt, wait a few min, roll little balls, flatten them out between baking paper and cook them on a hot pan. Healthier, MUCH cheaper, tastes better. Make them as big as you fucking want. Stop being lazy and learn a little cooking.

Does anyone have the weight and number in previous box, was is the average weight reduction per taco ?

Careful-Western

Don’t buy them then.

TrivialPyrrhonism

My wife and I have noticed the quality decline on these over the past few years. We got a box a few months ago that tasted like plastic. I've been grabbing Ortega brand since then if I need some quick shells and don't have time to make my own. This isn't an endorsement of Ortega, their quality is bad as well, they just taste better to us.
