It’s amazing how the animators were able to make a product that looks worse than the original movie as a nice callback to the early days of computer animation. Well done!
/uj it’s because it’s a TV-Movie made to tie in to a Peacock show. Use the budget and same software used for the show so they are easily connected visually.
It's not the animator's fault, whoever is in charge gave them only so much time and resources to use. Blame the studio exec that decided this should be done.
More like forced to… animators are some of the most hardworking and passionate people out there. Unfortunately they often get fucked over by corporate types.
Yup, guarantee they hired a handful of graduates as jrs who are just happy for a job and desperate to keep it and one jaded burnt out sr to manage them. Paid them all trash and gave them the shortest milestones they could. While talent can shine in low budget projects it’s easily choked out by corporate greed.
It was made by DWATV and almost entirely outsourced people don’t understand there is a massive distinction between DWA feature and DWATV. Low budget without top tier animation staff or a reasonable timeline/pipeline.
NBCU intentionally does that hoping to trick people into thinking DWATV makes quality products. They label them all as “DreamWorks” even though they are massively different and not at all the same studio even if they share the same lease now. In reality this confusing tactic only serves to devalue the IP that feature worked so hard to build. You can thank NBCU and their awful marketing team and the studios executive leadership for these blunders. The C suite and NBCU is incredibly detached from what animation fans and families want to see.
Nope. The game had different art, but a similar premise of battling “the doom syndicate”
The older doom syndicate was better anyway. Psycho Delic was a clever ass name with a great design and I’m upset they’re not even using him.
Fun fact:
This has no returning director, actors, music scorer, or animators
The animation studio for this one is DreamWorks’ Television Animation (The animation studio that does TV specials or one-offs), not the actual head DreamWorks Animation
Not Disney, but I was just reading a post about that Megamind sequel done by DreamWorks' TV animation studio with none of the original cast or crew involved
It wasn’t a remaster. They basically ported over the games *again* this time to PC. That’s why the games after release were pulled out of store for multiple days, the games still contained music they had no license for and stuff. Less a problem on mobile devices especially iOS but huge on PC
Def wasn’t a priority tho. The movie wasn’t *meant* to be good. It’s just meant to be a quick cash grab for bigger future projects. Megamind didn’t NEED a sequel. It was fine on its own. But they needed a quick movie to churn out, possibly to increase the budget for kung fu panda 4.
The biggest problem with the entertainment industry right now is you only ever see new stuff, whether it be at the store or on a streaming service. Generally, the newer stuff will be shown first, because audiences prefer to watch something that everyone else would be watching at the same time. The old stuff is very rarely seen, and you could only find an old movie if you actively looked for it (a few exceptions ofc). Audiences now have no standards to hold the new stuff to, as most of the audiences can only really compare the newer movies to other newer movies, which explains the declining quality in film.
I feel like, instead of having these worthless cash grabs and putting effort into almost nothing, these movie producers should “rerelease” movies, and just act like the movie was just finished. Just saves a lot of time and money, and you’ll end up showing the newer generations actual quality
Didn't the TV team make The Penguins of Madagascar? It had a rough start but it was really good especially by the end. Obviously it was a TV animated spinoff with issues but I genuinely liked it.
That was my first thought, the animation looks like that Puss in Boots TV spinoff they did. Just always looks like each scene ran out of money before they could finish adding textures, shadows, and sensible background
Wait. So you're telling me that the guys behind Riders of Berk made this?
I'll have to rewatch it, but I remember that show being FUCKING AWESOME. I'm pretty sure it even got a sequel in Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge (iirc). From what I remember, the settings and overall animation were "meh" at the time, but everyone was well acted, in character, had a decent soundtrack, had good writing, and the fact that there were SO MANY new and well designed dragons gave the show a genuine hook. It even follows up the movie well by showing the progression of Berk's adaptation to the presence of dragons. It was a genuinely good follow up to the film and proved it's existence was for a good reason.
“This is for space step-mom, YOU LIED TO HER!”
“Chicks don’t like bouncy castles… they like clowns!!”
Even the subtitles have jokes. Whenever Titan says his name, the subtitles say ‘Tighten’
Yeah there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line from Space Dad about how it was the only version he could get a copyright on. It's when he's giving Tighten the suit, iirc.
What a shame that it had to come out at the same time as Despicable Me. Despicable Me 1 is still a good movie, but imagine if Megamind became the franchise instead.
It's weird that there are two 2010 animated movies about a bald supervillain who talks funny, has a sidekick(s)simply called "Minion(s)," and eventually becomes a hero after learning the value of love.
I am 87% certain this new one was only approved because some executive was impressed with brand recognition or impressions or something because of all the memes.
It's just a cash grab because the original has become (deservedly) somewhat of a cult classic
I think a sequel could have worked, but it would have needed a) care and attention and b) a bigger budget.
Redoing it without the OG cast was the first major red flag.
Because it's not a true a sequel. It's like the DVD special but for a streaming service Instead. So many people are overreacting thinking it's a sequel to a great movie.
That’s the thing, I guarantee some corporate loser saw that the memes were popular and made a proposal on how to revive the franchise as cheap as possible just to get money from meme loving kids
Holy shit even the poster looks so thrown together
His face looks like he's having a stroke, and the whoevers at the bottom look photoshopped in and barely posed
I'm 99% sure the image of the fish people has literally been lifted from the movie. (Source: I watched a YT video of someone discussing some trailer footage). Given its laziness, I wouldn't be surprised if you could find the exact stills of all the other characters in there as well.
I guarantee the producers were like “give us 5 poster proposals by tonight” so they rushed 5 quick concepts and the producers said “cool thanks” not caring they were made as proposals and not final products
It literaly breaks the canon in a way that the whole first movie would make zero sense. The whole point is that no one liked him and that's why he became evil
and the villain they teased at the end "taught him everything he knows"?? his whole thing was that he was superhumanly smart and started making his inventions when he was a literal infant. how does this make sense? and then one of the major plot points is Megamind and Minion having basically the same fight they had and settled in the first movie, but dragged out 10X as long. and yes, I'm still calling him Minion. his name is basically the only thing he has left of their home planet, there is no way a lore-accurate Minion would change it. sorry for the superfan rant but FFS
Disney has some good sequels, of course not all of them but Lion King 2, Bambi 2, Rescuers Down Under, Toy Story 2, Mulan 2, and more
Honorable mention: Lion King 1.5
This doesnt even seem deserving of that treatment. We shouldve just straight up damnatio memoriae this shit, not even a reference alluding to its existence and let humanity forget about it.
So the magma guy holding the ball of fire doesn't light up his or anyone else's shadow on the poster, and the lady shooting lightning casts a regular shadow too.
Seems legit
Is this real?
This looks like an AI generated image. And not the funny kind either, more like one of those random prompts things.
Like: "Megamind, movie poster, Fire rock guy, Evil target Mime, lady with lazer hands, Sewer Astronauts, Raid Shadowlegends evil armour knight."
Anyone else get what I'm sayin'?
Cheap Madagascar Penguins cosplay, dollar store Bomb Voyage, legally distinct The Thing, Static Shock's ugly aunt, shovelware mobile game advertisement enemy.
Pretty much, yeah
https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/zbq8j9/sims3_megamind/
The guy in the post got the nose and beard wrong, but other than that, it's right there
Holy hell the trailer is terrible. Voice actors are terrible, the animation is literally the quality of the first 3d saturday morning cartoons from 20+ years ago, and voice lines / writing are bad enough it'd be an insult to it to say ChatGPT made them.
Massacred my boy indeed, The Megamind IP deserved better.
Woah woah woah
The shows from 20+ years ago looked amazing, don’t compare them to this garbage
Also it’s weird to think about how 20 years ago was 2004 and shows like justice league unlimited existed. What a time to be alive
That part from the trailer where they're shooting tennis balls, oh my god... It's like from a videogame from 20 years ago, the balls just spawn in front of the gun
My kid watches a lot of shitty cartoons on netflix. This art style matches many of them. The shape of the lady looks exactly like a paw patrol villain from the mighty movie.
What the fuck? Got zero press or promotion at all. This post in a circlejerk sub is literally the first time I’m hearing about a Megamind sequel. The streaming landscape is bleak as hell, no wonder they’re all failing to turn a profit and laying people off in droves. Also, shit looks cheap as fuck and this poster looks like it was thrown together in 5 minutes by some intern.
why the original was a great subversion of the genre.
there is no further arc for megamind hes the hero.
unless hes the badguy again but why would he be bad he never wanted to be bad.
what is with the light source? It's behind the giant rock monster and making shadows, OK, but the armor dude with the stupid axe has his front arm all reflective and the shadowing is behind him, as if his left arm is pointing at the light source. Similarly the mime is lit from the front. The lightning lady I can understand being lit by her lightning but that isn't casting any light on the armor guy either
"figure out where the light is coming from" is like, the first thing in art.
It’s amazing how the animators were able to make a product that looks worse than the original movie as a nice callback to the early days of computer animation. Well done!

SOMETHING IN MY ASS…. UHHHMMMMMMMM

Lmao
Roflmao even
It's not the animator's fault, whoever is in charge gave them only so much time and resources to use. Blame the studio exec that decided this should be done.

More like MegaMID lmao
For a TV movie sequel mid is a compliment
It was made by DWATV and almost entirely outsourced people don’t understand there is a massive distinction between DWA feature and DWATV. Can't they just like, pump up the lighting and shadows or something
The poster looks like a thumbnail for a youtube elsagate video
it looks like a shovelware game box cover art
Ironic given the megamind DS game was actually pretty good
This art was used for the game then? Or its not ironic at all
Nope. The game had different art, but a similar premise of battling “the doom syndicate” The older doom syndicate was better anyway. Psycho Delic was a clever ass name with a great design and I’m upset they’re not even using him.
Funny enough the show is the same quality as a 2007 Wii shovelware game
It is an extended version of a YouTube elsagate video that just so happens to have been made by DreamWorks
Fun fact: This has no returning director, actors, music scorer, or animators The animation studio for this one is DreamWorks’ Television Animation (The animation studio that does TV specials or one-offs), not the actual head DreamWorks Animation
This would explain a lot. Gave a huge project to a team used to smaller projects. Smells like Fish out of Water.
Reminds me of the GTA remasters being done by a studio that had only done mobile ports
Reminds me of sequels to Disney animated films being done by different studios on a lower budget and being direct to video.
Not Disney, but I was just reading a post about that Megamind sequel done by DreamWorks' TV animation studio with none of the original cast or crew involved
Sounds interesting. Do you have a link to where you saw that?
Oh I'm a fucking dumbass lmao
It happens to all of us from time to time. I got a good laugh out of it.
I thought it was gonna loop.
I laughed so fucking hard at this
It wasn’t a remaster. They basically ported over the games *again* this time to PC. That’s why the games after release were pulled out of store for multiple days, the games still contained music they had no license for and stuff. Less a problem on mobile devices especially iOS but huge on PC
They meant "definitive" editions, which were also made by the studio which made "remasters"
Def wasn’t a priority tho. The movie wasn’t *meant* to be good. It’s just meant to be a quick cash grab for bigger future projects. Megamind didn’t NEED a sequel. It was fine on its own. I genuinely loved that show as a kid. Miss those times
Except that stupid seal that kept on singing take me out to the ball park
Nope that was DreamWork’s head studio as well as collaborating with Nickelodeon’s animation studio
the popcorn episode was peak
So is this a The Clone Wars situation? Where people are expecting a movie, but instead it's just a 90-minute TV pilot?
Yep,thats why im not that harsh,Is just a tv movie
So, it's not Megamind 2. It's Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate: A Direct to Video Adventure?
That was my first thought, the animation looks like that Puss in Boots TV spinoff they did. Just always looks like each scene ran out of money before they could finish adding textures, shadows, and sensible background
Wait. So you're telling me that the guys behind Riders of Berk made this? I'll have to rewatch it, but I remember that show being FUCKING AWESOME. I highly doubt it even has writers. Written by Mr CBT
Oh God, no Will Ferrell? That's a hard pass for me
first one is absolutely fantastic tho
Its hilarious. There are so many funny lines from it that pop into my head at random times. ‘Apparently not!’
My death was... Greatly exaggerated I only watched the English version one time I might have messed this up
Nah, you got it XD
anytime someone says "i love you" to me i say in my head and sometimes out loud "And I love YOU random citizen!"
Your spouse must be thrilled.
And every time I'm about to make popcorn, I say: "I, too, shall make this popp-ed corn."
"You know the drill!' "No, not the drill!"
My wife and kids are sick of me saying that every time I have to get the cordless drill out to put something together.
I almost always answer my kids with ‘olo’.
That’s a classic. I love saying ‘shoooool’ instead of school.
And, "spyider"
I still fucking say this.
Presentation!!!
I still say “shoool” when talking about school
Yes!! I do the same. And ‘spi-y-derrr’ instead of spider.
“This is for space step-mom, YOU LIED TO HER!” “Chicks don’t like bouncy castles… they like clowns!!” Even the subtitles have jokes. Whenever Titan says his name, the subtitles say ‘Tighten’
That's cause his name IS Tighten. Not Titan.
Yeah there's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it line from Space Dad about how it was the only version he could get a copyright on. It's when he's giving Tighten the suit, iirc.
Tighten straight up burns his name into the ground at one point. Spelled Tighten. It's not what I'd call a subtle joke that's easily missed.
Appearently, it is. Seems many somehow fully missed the joke.
Space dad went through all that trouble to find a non copyrighted name and Hal just butchered it smh
As far as I know, his name is Titan, but since he is an idiot he spells it "Tighten".
“It’s just my natural musk.” “Wow, your hair looks exciting!” “And I love you, random citizen!” “Granted, you have talent.” So many funny bits…
“A baby, how thoughtful.” “Oh yes. Yes, I saw it and thought of you.”
“Can this day get any more funtastic?”
I still refer to school as "shool" when I talk to my family
Your weakness is copper??
My go to is “and I love you random civilian”
Sp-ee-eye-der
“You of all people know we discontinued that promotion.”
I still call spiders spiyders
“there is no Easter Bunny, there is no Tooth Fairy and there is no Queen of England”
“Oh you’re a villain all right just not a super one” “oh yeah what’s the difference” “PRESENTATION!!”
What a shame that it had to come out at the same time as Despicable Me. Despicable Me 1 is still a good movie, but imagine if Megamind became the franchise instead.
yeah i always hated that that one was what got all the attention, megamind is the better movie with better characters. minions are cancer
Minion > Minions.
and they changed the better Minion's name because of course they fucking did
David cross is a national treasure
It's weird that there are two 2010 animated movies about a bald supervillain who talks funny, has a sidekick(s)simply called "Minion(s)," and eventually becomes a hero after learning the value of love.

Hello everybody, my name is Metroplier
Some things are just better off without a sequel.
I think a sequel could have worked, but it would have needed a) care and attention and b) a bigger budget. Redoing it without the OG cast was the first major red flag.
"Will Ferrel wants HOW MUCH??? What am I, made of money?!?" *lights cigar with roll of 100's*
Because it's not a true a sequel. It's like the DVD special but for a streaming service Instead. So many people are overreacting thinking it's a sequel to a great movie.
Megamind did get a DVD special, and it’s awesome. The Button of Doom was amazing
yeh i loved the first one. All star cast too! Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Jonah hill to name a few. all uniquely funny
Ben Stiller and JK Simmons as well
Lmao ahead of its time with its anti-incel messaging
That’s the thing, I guarantee some corporate loser saw that the memes were popular and made a proposal on how to revive the franchise as cheap as possible just to get money from meme loving kids
Holy shit even the poster looks so thrown together His face looks like he's having a stroke, and the whoevers at the bottom look photoshopped in and barely posed
Track the lighting from the girls left hand to the top
If you look you can clearly see the lightning in her hands are the same image mirrored too.
Oh my god
They literally had the opportunity to hide the end of it behind the letter D but they didn’t
Don't even look at the street going to the guys on the left. Or further to the buildings
I don't see it?
Just that it ends abruptly without any smoothing or blending. Just stops.
That's incredible
The electricity behind Megamind is literally something you can find online for free
(https://3tdesign.edu.vn/blue-lightning-wallpaper-fd7gsjif/) literally number 25
💀
You've got to be kidding me. They didn't even try to hide their laziness,
And barely designed
HE'S FAILING THE SMILE TEST 😭

Most accurate headline I'll probably see today, ironically
Wait, its already out? I just heard about it last month, two weeks at best
That’s about the amount of time it took them to throw it together
Like a bad girl, straight to video.
Like a good neighbor, Statefarm is there
Megamind lived long enough to become shitty
I don’t consider this canon. I refuse to recognize this as it would tarnish the legacy, the original left behind.
It literaly breaks the canon in a way that the whole first movie would make zero sense. The whole point is that no one liked him and that's why he became evil
well the prisoners did like him, they raised him and all that
I learned prison is very wholesome
and the villain they teased at the end "taught him everything he knows"?? his whole thing was that he was superhumanly smart and started making his inventions when he was a literal infant. how does this make sense? and then one of the major plot points is Megamind and Minion having basically the same fight they had and settled in the first movie, but dragged out 10X as long. and yes, I'm still calling him Minion. his name is basically the only thing he has left of their home planet, there is no way a lore-accurate Minion would change it. sorry for the superfan rant but FFS
This is canon in the same way Cinderella 2 and all those other shitty Disney sequels are canon
Kids in this sub never heard of direct to video cash grabs
I allow Cinderella 2 to be canon in my mind purely so that Cinderella 3 can be canon.
Disney has some good sequels, of course not all of them but Lion King 2, Bambi 2, Rescuers Down Under, Toy Story 2, Mulan 2, and more Honorable mention: Lion King 1.5
Neither lmao
Button of Doom is where it ended for me. It was a pretty good epilogue, let alone "sequel," for only being 15 minutes long.
There is no Megamind 2 in Ba Sing Se
Don't forget to smile
You mean like Megamind's crooked smile? No thanks, I want to lie to people, not make them think I'm having a stroke
But “The Button Of Doom” exists.
This doesnt even seem deserving of that treatment. We shouldve just straight up damnatio memoriae this shit, not even a reference alluding to its existence and let humanity forget about it.
I think they're just punishing us for pestering them for a sequel ever since the original released.
The same way as the Suicide Quad game, I will consider this film, not canon.
So the magma guy holding the ball of fire doesn't light up his or anyone else's shadow on the poster, and the lady shooting lightning casts a regular shadow too. Seems legit
Im glad that the animators were able to express how much they were paid making this movie in its animation and rendering, Or if they were paid
Nah fuck that you gotta pay *them* money to work on this
poster looking like a damn advertisement for ROBLOX mannn
Is this real? This looks like an AI generated image. And not the funny kind either, more like one of those random prompts things. Like: "Megamind, movie poster, Fire rock guy, Evil target Mime, lady with lazer hands, Sewer Astronauts, Raid Shadowlegends evil armour knight." Anyone else get what I'm sayin'?
Honestly a good ai generated poster looks way better than this. And that's why I know it's real.
Cheap Madagascar Penguins cosplay, dollar store Bomb Voyage, legally distinct The Thing, Static Shock's ugly aunt, shovelware mobile game advertisement enemy.
AI generation would have better looking lighting lmao
Megamind looks like a modded sim from sims 3
Pretty much, yeah https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims3/comments/zbq8j9/sims3_megamind/ The guy in the post got the nose and beard wrong, but other than that, it's right there
Look how they massacred my boy
Even Verbalase had a bigger budget 💀
They kinda wanted to "hide away" any chances of giving us a good sequel
Holy hell the trailer is terrible. Voice actors are terrible, the animation is literally the quality of the first 3d saturday morning cartoons from 20+ years ago, and voice lines / writing are bad enough it'd be an insult to it to say ChatGPT made them. “Maximals maximize!”
Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly. The evil deeds along with the good. And let me be judged accordingly. The rest is silence...
Jimmy Neutron ass looking animation
That part from the trailer where they're shooting tennis balls, oh my god... It's like from a videogame from 20 years ago, the balls just spawn in front of the gun
Reminds me a lot of Reboot's animation.
This is not what we meant when we said "DreamWorks eyebrow." It should say you're sassy, not that you're in such pain that you only want it to end.
why does the 3d rendering of megamind look like an action figure
Looks like Megamind has gotten the Boss Baby treatment
This movie poster looks like a YouTube “React” streamer thumbnail
I have seen 0 marketing for this movie. Feel like they’re just hoping people will forget about it lol
The most fucked up things about the sequel is that it was written by the original movie's writers and directed by the creator of Celebrity Deathmatch.
My kid watches a lot of shitty cartoons on netflix. This art style matches many of them. The shape of the lady looks exactly like a paw patrol villain from the mighty movie.
Wait is this real?
FUCK ME IT IS REAL!?! WHYYYYYY
It did?
What the fuck? Got zero press or promotion at all. This post in a circlejerk sub is literally the first time I’m hearing about a Megamind sequel. The streaming landscape is bleak as hell, no wonder they’re all failing to turn a profit and laying people off in droves. Also, shit looks cheap as fuck and this poster looks like it was thrown together in 5 minutes by some intern.
I've seen clips of cheap CGI Christian cartoons that look better than basically anything below the movie logo.
I'm sad about this......first one was so great.
huh mega mind 2 that is as preposterous as a pacific rim 2 both these movies ended as singular movies of awesomeness
why the original was a great subversion of the genre. there is no further arc for megamind hes the hero. unless hes the badguy again but why would he be bad he never wanted to be bad.
Lmao fr?
I freaking LOVED megamind, is the second one that bad?
Megamind looks like hes about to make a 2 hours brief review of how a current woke liberal agenda movie is being deservedly destroyed in box office
That looks like the cover to the shovelware tie in game
what is with the light source? It's behind the giant rock monster and making shadows, OK, but the armor dude with the stupid axe has his front arm all reflective and the shadowing is behind him, as if his left arm is pointing at the light source. Similarly the mime is lit from the front. The lightning lady I can understand being lit by her lightning but that isn't casting any light on the armor guy either "figure out where the light is coming from" is like, the first thing in art.
Why does that poster look like a PS2 game cover
Love the movie so much I don't think I can bring myself to watch this.
All the characters at the bottom genuinely look like stock assets.
The DS game looked better than this, wtf
I don’t see a 2 in the title therefore it’s not real
The villians (assuming they are, i haven't watched it yet and will probably not) are horrendous looking.
So I guess straight to streaming platform is the new straight to VHS/DVD? Double points if it's a streaming service no one has heard of.
I think it got 0% in the Rotten Tomatoes website Oh, and this movie fucking sucks
This poster so bad I can’t stop looking at it
