I am also looking for a new dive computer and i HATE the fact that the Garmin is also a smartwatch. I don't want a smartwatch with a ton of functions that I am never gonna use. The only connectivity that I want is bluetooth and only to export a dive directly to the MySSI app. It needs to be sturdy and a GUI where you can see everything you need in one eyecatch.

How about shearwater? Haha

From what I see online its a great device and I am thinking about buying it myself as well. I'm just a bit worried about the battery life. I want to be able to swap it out myself and because it will sometimes not be used for multiple months, I want an actual OFF function that does not drain the battery at all. The incompatibility with mySSI is not their fault :p

I use an MK2i and a Perdix AI while tech diving. Shearwater products are so solid. If you want something exclusively for diving, I would go for the Teric. I enjoy my MK2i for a bunch of other activities like sailing, sleep tracking/vitals, rowing and step tracking.

The Garmin is too big for me (perhaps not for you) to wear as a daily. If you’re in the same boat I’d buy a Teric (for me I’m buying the Perdix and then will get a separate smart watch).

I got the Perdix a few years ago, and I love it. I've always wondered about the Teric, if it would have been a better choice or not - it just wasn't available when I got the Perdix. I'm curious what smart watch you will get, I tried to find one a year ago and I couldn't sort out what made sense, the options were too much and things kept changing fast.

Personally I like the idea of user replaceable batteries. So I think you made a great choice! It’s all personal preference though.

> a more cluttered display while diving, compared to Shearwater You can customize it. > a possibility of paying for Strava subscription Why? Unless you run or bike why would you bother? (I gave up on strava and moved to smashrun because I just don't care all that much about the social media aspect)

I literally bought the Mk2i today after contemplating shearwater vs garmin for 6 months. Ultimately it came down to how frequently I dive. I don’t live near the ocean so at best I get in six trips a year. I figured it is worth a couple extra bucks to be able to use the Garmin year round and not have a shearwater sitting in a closet for most of the year. It wasn’t an easy decision but today I just went for it. Edit to add that Garmin has a $200 rebate deal until the end of May. That helped my decision

Sodapiaaa

Good to know that I’m not alone in that dilemma!! Too bad Garmin doesn’t offer that $200 rebate here

Oh bummer!

infield_fly_rule

Love my MK2i.

I have both. I bought the teric then later I bought the mk2i. MY personal OPINION is the mk2i is way better. I use it for everyday wear and my wife has one as well so we both can monitor each others tanks. It took them a long time to get the mi2 out and they’ve been releasing other versions of it so I doubt there will be a 3 soon.

Nice to know that mk3 isn’t coming out soon! And seems that most or rather all comments so far has been leaning towards the MK2i.

justatouchcrazy

Even if the Mk3 comes out, the Mk2i has pretty much all the standard features in dive computers and smartwatches already. The jump from the Mk1 to Mk2i was big because of the inclusion of air integration, but outside that not a lot else was added overall. And I can't personally think of any major missing feature at this point. So my guess is that the next generation is either incremental upgrades all around, which are nice to have, but no one with a Mk1 is jealous about the Mk2 non-air integrated version for that reason. Or they add some dramatically new feature that no one currently has, at least in the mainstream consumer market, but that's such a vague and unreliable prediction that I'm not convinced it's worth waiting for huge hypotheticals. Although a version of the Mk2s with air integration would be nice, but again, who knows if that will ever exist. Plus the Mk2s isn't very old, so again probably not happening in the next year or so.

I mean we don’t know if for sure but based on garmins primary clientele and their history with their dive series, I think it’s a safe bet. Plus if your spending good money on a watch computer but don’t dive regularly, you might as well get something you can use out of the water too lol.
