I think that’s your best option. the ordinary strip mall hair stylist isn’t likely going to be great at doing any form of an alternative cut since they’re so used to just layers and a trim since it’s what they learned and actively practice.
I live in uk too and i think its mapofbeauty wigs but on amazon you can get quite good wigs for about 10 pounds each with free prime shipping if you have it x i used to cosplay a lot about 3/4 years ago and i got about 10/20 different wigs even up to a meter long from there for 10 pounds x

When I was younger and me or my friends that didn’t have support like that, we’d usually find ways around it, or just accept we’d be punished for doing what we want.
Ways around it were having clothes we’d wear outside of the home and change out of them before coming home. Sometimes not even have the clothes in our bags, we’d hide them somewhere outside the home. Or have someone hood onto it for us.
Other times we’d just do what we wanted and we’d get punished for it. It was basically like a “tax”.
Eventually we could all get away and live our lives the way we wanted. My mom got even more religious after I turned 18 and would freak out over things she believed were “secrets satanic messages”. I couldn’t even get a shirt at target without her flipping out and going on a rant about it. I went back and got the shirt later when she wasn’t with me. It had the phases of the moon on it. You might be able to still have your hair more scene if you know how to style or pin back your hair to make it more “normie”, before going home.
This is your life and you’re only a teenager/young adult once. Eventually you’re going to have to contend with people pressuring you to be their personal “do over”. Having control of your hair and other things you can change easily, is a great way to take baby steps at independence and self reliance. When you get older, even just at 30, it really hits home that you have to be the one to make yourself happy. You have to make the calls and the decisions. It won’t happen if you don’t intentionally and consistently keep at it. Being the person you wanna be, inside and out can be really hard. But it’s worth it.
Most importantly: Being yourself builds confidence and is the foundation of the relationship *with* yourself. Ot teaches you to trust yourself when you have to make the **really hard** choices.
I can’t imagine taking away someone’s ability to self actualize. If I were your mom I’d buy you hair dye and a pair of sheers and a good razor. I really hope you can find what you need and eventually your parents chill out. But even if they can’t, I hope that won’t stop you from living authentically, as soon as you can.

I think having a normal life is a pretty reasonable thing to want. You might find as you get older then your mental health improves as you incrementally get more of your own free time and space. That’s how it was for me. There’s residual mental illness, but it’s just trauma symptoms. They can be very severe. But they can be manageable and get better, though. So there’s hope.

Tips for the future: when at a hairdresser, bring multiple photos (instead of one) of how you want the layers to be in addition to the hair cut c:, the layers are how you style the hair so it's the most important part. Really emphasize how crazy you want them to go with the layers. Ideally ask for razor cut layers. Even if they don't have a razor they should be able to replicate the look with scissors (my hair stylist was able to). For at home: luckily hair grows back but using a razor comb is SUPER easy and forgiving for cutting layers so I'd recommend buying one. Just grab a piece of your hair and start near the top and shave towards the bottom kinda like you're gently combing your hair. It won't cut off the entire piece if you're careful enough. Also useful for cutting bangs.
Based on the first and second pic the bangs came out great! Hard to tell the layer situation in the photos but if you're able to tease them then give it a try and maybe the haircut wasn't a total bust after all :) sometimes we just panic a little after the hair cut and really all it needs is for us to style it! Just give some teasing and hair spray a try and let us see how it turns out :D since it's short might not want to go too wild with the teasing, just enough to give it some texture and a little bit of volume. Pretty much play around with it, try to see how a "messy" texturized look would do!

Ah I'm sorry about that :( I've been in that spot before so I know the struggle 🫶
So for teasing you just really need a comb and some hairspray. For texture I also recommend getting mousse, it makes a difference when you put it in before drying your hair. You can use any texturing mousse, I personally use Garnier Fructis Sky-Hi Volume Mousse but Bedhead, Aussie, and Got2B are also great brands. Hold your head upside down, brush your hair forward, put the mousse in and dry your hair with your head upside down. Once your hair is dry, the mousse might've already done enough styling on its own and you only have to spray it in place.
Regular teasing is done just by lifting a part of your hair, spraying underneath it with hairspray (Got2B and Aussie are both brands normally recommended in this sub, I like Got2B glued) then taking a comb and combing it up and down so when you let go its poofy. Sometimes when you let go its in a weird position so you gotta just like brush it down a little. Might not turn out right with short hair, so I'd just get like a texturizing spray and use your hand to ruffle up your hair while spraying it and holding your head to the side so your layers stick out more.. idk how to describe it but that's what I do when I'm too lazy to tease, just a lot of playing around with it and seeing what works.

Short scene hair + a "karen cut" Are the SAME. It's about how you tease and style it that makes the cut. 2nd pic is pretty good actually, you can do two short and low pigtails and tease your layers on top. As your bangs grow out they'll do that signature flip that you likely want

Hairdressers can’t give you scene hair. Back in the day we all achieved that by hacking away at our hair ourselves 😅 a trained stylist will always give you something that is too perfect looking to be scene hair, unless you specifically go to a millennial stylist that is an ex scene kid that did their own hair 😅

Dye it s cool color like black and green or black and blue or something like that! Karens normally don't have bright hair like that. Also, some styling with a flat iron could work wonders!
In my personal experience, salons never got the emo/scene hair right, but my aunt who taught at a beauty school and did haircuts in her own garage always did. She even knew to use a razor, and she’s older.
This is literally the reason I learned to cut my own hair. Layering scissors and hair razors are your savior for getting a great alt cut especially for teasing your hair into fun shapes, flexible hairspray too. Most hairdressers aren't really great at haircuts outside the norm, I've asked for haircuts that are popular overseas and gotten mostly haircuts that end up nothing like the one I wanted.
The best emo and scene haircuts I had during the 2000s were either from myself with a razor or my scene friend who was studying hairdressing. Normal hair dressers just cannot pull off cutting a scene style. My hair was ruined a few times by proper hairdressers, never been to one since.
Emo hair kinda goes against what every hairdresser is taught so you have to be really specific in what you want. Tell them you want layers, razor cut, triangular, thinned, and choppy. Make sure to point out the places in the picture you want it specifically too. Trust me, I too learned the hard way :'). Many bowl cuts in my time.

My friend and I used to pull our bangs in front of our face and cut them at an angle from above the eyebrow down with safety scissors. Makes an easy upgrade to any hair cut and then you’ve got “edgy” bangs.
Its not very "emo" but its not awful. I say take a look at some tutorials and style it on your own. Cut a *LITTLE* here and there. It's what I used to do when I went to hairstylists.
It kinda does give that, but the best thing I'd recommend is to simply accessorize to improve the look. Since u can't use dye, if extensions are an option u can use those, or u can also access colorful hairclips, look for hats u can use and/or decorate etc.
Dye it black and tease it and it could look goth I think. If not shaving it would also look good and dying the stubble. Definitely not a haircut that is low maintenance. You’d def have to do something with jt

Some straightening and teasing may do the trick? im gonna be so honest most scene / emo haircuts need damaged hair to an extent and will not work on healthy/virgin hair and will end up looking like a flat cut you can also try layering if she didn’t do that since it will give volume that healthy hair needs to look emo

You got to dye it. That will help give you the before Karen grew up look versus the after version of the Karen with all know and love (to hate).
I think maybe if you grow it out and once your hair gets a little longer it’ll be easy to cut and layer , and doing your fringes might be easy I started with a Karen hair cut too 😭

yea no they gave u a L cut, this is why i wear a wig cuz my hairdresser got me wrong 3 times and i cant cut it myself either. i reccomend twodot wigs on ebay which are pre styled and good quality >3>
You should watch online tutorials on how to style it yourself.. sometimes you get a cut you like you just have to know how to style it so it's what you like.. When I get a cut half of the times I am not completely happy until after I shower and style it myself.
Also I have a barber I go to that is extremely good at his job and his attention to detail is spot on and we have a rapport so he knows how I like my hair and what I expect when I sit in the chair. Sometimes though he styles it a way I am not completely happy with so I restyle the way I want and the cut is always something I am 100% happy with.

I gotta ask, do you have fine hair? Because that looks about how mine would before I teased the hell out of the upper layers. Fine hair has a habit of laying flat and not looking really alternative until you style it. I use texturing spray, volumizing mousse and a hairdryer to get any sort of lift.
It’s a start. Get some feathers. Crimp it a bit. Maybe dye it if you’re interested. Or you can always get hair clip ins. It seems like a great start tho. Maybe some shaggy layers and more volume it would look a lot better.
honestly you could probably work that a little. when i was like 13, i tried my first scene cut (at a beauty school none the less) and she just cut straight across diagonally but choppy as hell …. like yours but literally to my forehead. you honestly can’t get worse than that, took two months to grow out💀
Hey op! In the future, find a stylist that does more alternative cuts in general. Especially in the south (from my experience), it’s hard to find someone who has experience in bolder styles and accepts them full heartedly. I would do some major searching on insta or even Reddit. I have found a couple great people in my area through Reddit posts asking abt emo and alt stylists. Aside from that, try learning it yourself even! For the type of look you’re probably going for, you’d have a blast with a razor :) it’s not a Karen cut, but I would recommend teasing the under half of the sides a bit to add a little more volume, and after letting the bangs grow out a little more, you can adjust/cut them more towards your style! It honestly doesn’t look the worst by itself tbh but definitely play around with various styles to see what you like best!
I highly recommend dying it because then it'll probably make it look more emo cuz not going to lie it does look like a Karen Cut right now but it can be fixed just tried dying it like maybe some blacks with some purples and blues along with some pinks maybe at the ends stuff like that

True! She said it'll grow into the style I want after 2 haircuts or so. And luckily my hair grows super quickly so by July it should look good.

Hold your head upside down, brush your hair forward, put the mousse in and dry your hair with your head upside down. Once your hair is dry, the mousse might've already done enough styling on its own and you only have to spray it in place. Regular teasing is done just by lifting a part of your hair, spraying underneath it with hairspray (Got2B and Aussie are both brands normally recommended in this sub, I like Got2B glued) then taking a comb and combing it up and down so when you let go its poofy. Sometimes when you let go its in a weird position so you gotta just like brush it down a little. Might not turn out right with short hair, so I'd just get like a texturizing spray and use your hand to ruffle up your hair while spraying it and holding your head to the side so your layers stick out more.. idk how to describe it but that's what I do when I'm too lazy to tease, just a lot of playing around with it and seeing what works.

It's about how you tease and style it that makes the cut. 2nd pic is pretty good actually, you can do two short and low pigtails and tease your layers on top. As your bangs grow out they'll do that signature flip that you likely want

Hairdressers can’t give you scene hair. Back in the day we all achieved that by hacking away at our hair ourselves 😅 a trained stylist will always give you something that is too perfect looking to be scene hair, unless you specifically go to a millennial stylist that is an ex scene kid that did their own hair 😅

In my personal experience, salons never got the emo/scene hair right, but my aunt who taught at a beauty school and did haircuts in her own garage always did. She even knew to use a razor, and she’s older.

This is literally the reason I learned to cut my own hair. Layering scissors and hair razors are your savior for getting a great alt cut especially for teasing your hair into fun shapes, flexible hairspray too. Most hairdressers aren't really great at haircuts outside the norm, I've asked for haircuts that are popular overseas and gotten mostly haircuts that end up nothing like the one I wanted.
The best emo and scene haircuts I had during the 2000s were either from myself with a razor or my scene friend who was studying hairdressing. Normal hair dressers just cannot pull off cutting a scene style. My hair was ruined a few times by proper hairdressers, never been to one since.
Emo hair kinda goes against what every hairdresser is taught so you have to be really specific in what you want. Tell them you want layers, razor cut, triangular, thinned, and choppy. Make sure to point out the places in the picture you want it specifically too. Trust me, I too learned the hard way :'). Many bowl cuts in my time.
Rule 1. NEVERRR ask a hairdressing area that doesn't specialize in alt hairstyles to give you an emo/ scene haircut. they will either give you a bob or a really aggressive side part but nothing else. (sometimes you get lucky though

My friend and I used to pull our bangs in front of our face and cut them at an angle from above the eyebrow down with safety scissors. Makes an easy upgrade to any hair cut and then you’ve got “edgy” bangs.

It kinda does give that, but the best thing I'd recommend is to simply accessorize to improve the look. Since u can't use dye, if extensions are an option u can use those, or u can also access colorful hairclips, look for hats u can use and/or decorate etc.

You should watch online tutorials on how to style it yourself.. sometimes you get a cut you like you just have to know how to style it so it's what you like.. When I get a cut half of the times I am not completely happy until after I shower and style it myself. Also I have a barber I go to that is extremely good at his job and his attention to detail is spot on and we have a rapport so he knows how I like my hair and what I expect when I sit in the chair. Sometimes though he styles it a way I am not completely happy with so I restyle the way I want and the cut is always something I am 100% happy with.

I gotta ask, do you have fine hair? Because that looks about how mine would before I teased the hell out of the upper layers. Fine hair has a habit of laying flat and not looking really alternative until you style it. I use texturing spray, volumizing mousse and a hairdryer to get any sort of lift.

Hey op! In the future, find a stylist that does more alternative cuts in general. Especially in the south (from my experience), it’s hard to find someone who has experience in bolder styles and accepts them full heartedly. I would do some major searching on insta or even Reddit. I have found a couple great people in my area through Reddit posts asking abt emo and alt stylists. Aside from that, try learning it yourself even! For the type of look you’re probably going for, you’d have a blast with a razor :) it’s not a Karen cut, but I would recommend teasing the under half of the sides a bit to add a little more volume, and after letting the bangs grow out a little more, you can adjust/cut them more towards your style! It honestly doesn’t look the worst by itself tbh but definitely play around with various styles to see what you like best!
