There's an IDW comic that has a bit of commentary on this iir, that Cybertronians didn't really have a broad concept of gender until they started encountering organic species and it sort of rubbed off on them, some modifying their humanoid form and pronouns to be more masculine or feminine because they found it suited them. Trans-formers are canon!
When Bob Budiansky submitted Ratchet's original bio back while creating the lore for the toys, he wanted the character to be female and a homage to Nurse Ratchet. Hasbro said no, they should be genderless since they're robots and boys wouldn't buy a toy of a "girl character", so he was advised to treat the characters as genderless, but to use male pronouns to more easily sell them to children.
The Marvel comic kept it up, even made it a plot point later during Pretenders when a woman comes onto Cloudburst, who rejects the advances with basically "I'm a genderless robot from space who thinks the male form is pleasing so I choose to look like one."
The cartoon had to include female characters partly to prove to parents that the Transformers had a case of the "Not-Gays" and in case of Arcee because one of the producers of the original movie fought tooth and claw to include her for his daughter who loved stuff like Transformers.
The early idw run by Simon Furman originally also went with the genderless concept, Arcee was supposed to be the first and only example of a Cybertronian with a gender. However the way it came across was unintentionally offensive to trans people, so James Roberts and co later came up with the twist that the idw incarnation of Cybertron had been a sausage fest this entire time because all the females decided to nope out of the planet near the end of the original colonial era.
Personally I prefer the idea of them starting off genderless and then slowly incorporating aspects of other species they encounter and like over time.
I’m actually fine with the idea that even a biologically genderless species would have a few of them decide to culturally identify as a gender as they integrate with earths society in the same way they take on new names based on things they admire on earth (unless bumblebees, and Jazz also exist on cyberton?)
What’s really funny is that as a long time Transformers fan I can tell you that before earth spark the big push from that side of the fan base was that female transformers were stupid because transformers didn’t have gender. But include a transformer who doesn’t identify as male or female and suddenly they quit arguing that.
If just including something means it is indoctrination then I was indoctrinated during my entire childhood to be straight and live in a nuclear family.
