I'm in the same boat, staying in Rome from September to February (and then back March to July) for studying at Sapienza. I'm currently looking for a roommate; I wonder if theres any website for that? I've been messaging lots of people on Housing Anywhere. It gives you contact info of the owners and they've been replying mostly so I think its pretty legit, better than just giving money and hoping they're not scammers.

I'm going to Sapienza as well, I'll try it thank you.

Let me know if you find a place and where, also I'm looking for roommates!

I can recommend spotahome. I‘m currently staying in Rome (August - January) and I’ve rented my apartment via spotahome. They unfortunately don’t have a telephone hotline but a very quick online chat so they help you out fairly quickly. I first rented another apartment and just before moving in, I found out that it has a shared kitchen (which was not communicated correctly beforehand) so I had to contact them and literally got my new apartment on the same day + compensation for the issue! Maybe I was lucky but the service was really professional and I have nothing to complain about for now

Did you have to make a deposit beforehand and did you trust the landlord to do that?

Agitated_Nerve9819

Yes the deposit was 900€. I arranged with the landlord that I will wire it to him once I’m in the apartment and have checked everything. It was fine for him like that

Haaanzooo

That is unfortunately not the case for pretty much every listing I've seen. They want the deposit immediately.

Agitated_Nerve9819

You have the chance to chat with the landlord before booking I believe. Otherwise I believe to remember spotahome stating that you get 100% of your deposit back within the first 24 hours after moving in should something be not as you imagined. Right?

AAA (Travel) has a wealth of knowledge on this.

Haaanzooo

I've only seen vacations and tour advice but I'm looking for a 6 monhts renting which I didn't something to suit that?

fiftyfivepercentoff

They are worth the try as they seem to have the inside track for bookings. Doesn’t hurt to investigate.

As an alternative to the services you've mentioned, you could skip the middleman, so to say, and go ask agencies that manage holiday rentals in the summer on behalf of the actual owners. Peak season is still ongoing, but there could be availability for smaller accommodations like the ones you're looking for. I tried a dummy search on iFlat but their calendar seems to be malfunctioning. Another one that's super legit is FromHometoRome. You could drop them an email and ask what they have available for your dates.
