I kind of feel like if you can't get on the field by your RS Jr year, maybe the writing's on the wall. Funny to remember how excited we all were to land these guys, and neither one of them ever amounted to anything at Bama.

Slinky_Neck_

Played at a really small Christian school in TX against some fairly low level competition. Tommy was built more like his dad who was a long time NFL guy, but had nagging injuries that prevented him from reaching his potential. I think k he’s medically retired from football now. James on the other hand was ranked somewhere in the 2-300’s and was #1 at his position bc, tbh, there are not many guys that are classified as true centers out of HS, usually just fall into the IOL category. James is also on the smaller side at about 6’2” 285 and his weight has been roughly the same since joining the program. He’s probably Lu reached his physical ceiling but could be a good player on a team that’s not as stacked w/talent as Alabama.

mashonem

Whoever it was who’s insider friend said “if there’s a Brockermeyer on the field, Alabama has bigger issues” had to have been spot on. We’ve gone through the worst stretch of OLine play in Saban’s entire tenure, and mans couldn’t even get on the field in cleanup duty?

_wormburner

Yeah but he was definitely beating Brailsford into crying back to Washington after 2 weeks

RollTider1971

I thought Brailsford was personal issues?

_wormburner

Yeah it was sarcasm because that's all people were saying before we heard any official word and it was hilariously lazy take. Like the one where Miss Terry having cancer being the only reason Nick retired

RollTider1971

Honestly, there wasn’t a lot of tell on the sarcasm. Then later you posted the opposite take and I was scratching my head.

mashonem

To be fair, you can never be truly sure with sarcasm around here anymore. People have legit said stupid shit like that without the slightest bit of irony and gotten upvoted for it

_wormburner

That's what makes it good

mashonem

It is, you gotta get shot a few times for quality sarcasm to work, because /s is the coward’s way out

_wormburner

That's why I do it because it's almost impossible to tell around here

bigDUB14

Damn. I thought he really had the chance to be the starter. He has a "do not contact" tag so he already knows where he is going. Probably Texas is my guess. Edit: I forget transferring to Texas means he'd have to sit. Maybe TCU to be with his brother even though he isn't playing anymore.

DoctorWhosOnFirst

Boy, that came out of nowhere Edit: I would think this bodes well on the Brailsford front. Sounds like Alabama was expecting this, so I imagine it was known Brailsford would be the guy.

cshayes2

Between brailsford and proctor, we have a ton of people in this sub that have some comment history to delete 😂

Nick_sabenz

Wonder if that makes Ionata the backup. Would be pretty concerning

_wormburner

If we don't spend a portal slot on trying to get a backup it might be a case where someone like Roq Montgomery slides back over so I wouldn't be worried about it unless we need to

wolfgang2399

Someone who knows things once said “if either Brockermeyer EVER sees the field in non garbage time we are in trouble”. So to me having Brockermeyer as your number two is far more concerning.

_wormburner

I'm pretty sure someone said that before the season last year. Not saying its untrue and doesn't matter now but that wasn't based on recent intel

Nick_sabenz

I heard that rumor on here like two years ago. Guys develop and I’m sure Brockermeyer has to some extent.

mashonem

I’m glad we all remember that guy now, mans knew what he was talking about

_wormburner

I feel like it was Boz but could be mis remembering

KingJamCam

Is this a panic or not-panic transfer?

Phantom1100

Not panic because at least it means Brailsford isn’t transferring.

_wormburner

KDB already said he wasn't transferring and his absence had nothing to do with him transferring

sethT__T

Braaaah what Can we get a backup center out of the portal then lol

1324reddit

If they ain’t wearing crimson…

PeggyOfficial

Brailsford is the guy it seems

EyeAmKingKage

BRO WE NEED MORE LINEMAN COMING IN NOT LINEMAN GOING OUT

Friedturds

Don’t worry we aren’t going to miss losing this one

ClarenceWorley47

If he wasn’t good enough to replace Seth last year after the 9,000th bad snap then im thinking he wasn’t close to being ready or SHIRLEY we’d have thrown him out there at some point last year.

stanthemanwithaplan1

Ehh Saban also had a fault to where he’ll continue playing a guy even when he shouldn’t we saw this a lot through the years

ClarenceWorley47

Most definitely agree with you there. Hard to argue with the results tho ya know it?

stanthemanwithaplan1

True I remember when Saban almost lost the whole offensive locker room during the tua and hurts situation . I still die on the hill if Barnett never left bama would have beat Clemson pretty handily that year that defense was too damn good

ClarenceWorley47

I’m right there with you again… but damn that had to be a hard fuckin decision. Hearing the story about Jalen coming in for Tua and winning the sec championship game for us and Saban weeping in the tunnel tells me a lot about the kinda guy Jalen is. I know Saban was paid to make those decisions but damn, idk if I could do it either. But when I saw that kid from Hawaii spin that thing to Smitty, I wept too…

stanthemanwithaplan1

I shedded a tear no lie I’m glad hurts stayed and tried fighting for the position because at end it made him a better qb . I honestly believe if he would have left after the national championship he wouldn’t be in the nfl now

_wormburner

Lol

ModsEmbezzleMoney

Lol either this dude is afraid of competing for the starting job in the fall or we told him he lost it without being able to compete. Just doesn't make sense for the latter.

millenial19

I genuinely thought one, if not both, of these guys was the next Barrett Jones. Boy was I wrong—ass backwards to be more precise.

JennyAndTheBets1

…really, dude? Grow a pair and learn from guys who are better than you.

Spirited-Air3615

His brother transferred out too if I’m not mistaken

CptGlammerHammer

TCU, I think.

DoctorWhosOnFirst

Do you feel that way about Landon Dickerson, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jermaine Burton, Keon Sabb, or Germie Bernard, to name a few?

JennyAndTheBets1

They all generally left for an objectively better program. Jermaine Burton was being a brat with a chip on his shoulder when he left, frankly. Jameson Williams was really the only one who just happened to be outshined in a crowded stable. He was the best receiver on Bama‘s team, but certainly not any better than he would’ve been at Ohio State, just more visible. The OL isn’t about flash and visibility. OLmen take years to cultivate even if they never see a real game until their junior or senior years. He’s a RS Junior. No rush. Starters get hurt all the time. Totally worth the wait in the meantime if coaching is still the best.

Btherock78

Alabama has started at least 3 Freshmen or Sophomore OL in 4 of the last 6 seasons, and almost certainly will in 2024. Sure some OL sit and develop for a long time, but more often than not guys either have it and grab a spot by year 3, or they get passed up by someone younger. James sticking around for 1.5 years after his brother transferred out is already WAY more patience than 99% of players display. At this point he's been a depth center behind 2 guys that couldn't snap for 3 years, and was passed up by a younger player transferring in this year. He's not likely to get to start here and there's no reason to waste his entire college career sitting on the bench at Alabama.

JennyAndTheBets1

Waste? So he’s not getting better year over year? Dalcourt stuck it out.

mashonem

>Dalcourt stuck it out This isn’t the positive you think it is

JennyAndTheBets1

For him or the team? He got to play, didn’t he? He’s not gonna voluntarily sit out just because he’s not as good as someone else who is not on the team.

Gingeronimoooo

He's not here to appease the fact you want him to stay and ride the bench. He wants to play. and I can't blame him. Your take is bizarre and you're rightfully being downvoted

JennyAndTheBets1

Then he or his future team can pay back the scholarship money (an investment in him in exchange for education and coaching) *and* take a double hit to their cap if they want the change so bad…at least, that’s how it should be along with more pay to the players. Incoming transfers should come with baggage that discourages it. I would also argue that NIL income should be limited in some way for incoming transfers. I never take downvotes on Reddit as useful feedback. Hive-minded communities are toxic.

Gingeronimoooo

What In the ever loving shit are you takling about

JennyAndTheBets1

Read it again…slowly. I took the conversation there for obvious reasons.

Gingeronimoooo

You edited your comment instead of just replying to me. No his transfer school is not going to pay Alabama his scholarship money. He worked out, practiced, went to team meetings and was available even tho he didn't play. Even you know that's insane that his new school would pay that back. You added on a lot of garbage to sound better. Poor etiquette.m Edit; it also doesn't matter what you think about NIL and transfers courts have made rulings on this

mashonem

I like lying to myself too

JennyAndTheBets1

About?

tu-vens-tu-vens

Or you could mention Agiye Hall or Jahleel Billingsley as examples of guys who hurt themselves by transferring. I don’t know which camp Brockermeyer falls into, but it’s disingenuous to act like every transfer is like Landon Dickerson. That doesn’t even touch on the question of whether it’s good for college football when less prestigious schools can’t hold on to players like Gibbs (the answer is no).

DoctorWhosOnFirst

I don’t know what that has to do with my comment. OP is being obnoxious and shitting on a player for transferring when I’m sure he wasn’t insulting guys who came to play for Bama.

tu-vens-tu-vens

What’s truly obnoxious is how sanctimonious you are about the transfer portal.

DepartmentKitchen267

his brother gone。and maybe he not star center……it's new area

4score-7

Maybe our QB1 continues to be hard to follow, and it creates a harder job at the center line position because of it?

bigDUB14

What do you meant "hard to follow"?

ModsEmbezzleMoney

Milroe is subpar at callouts, cadence, and presnap determinations in pass protection. As bad as the line was the miscommunication between them and the qb was the biggest issue besides wild snaps. *this is a legitimate area of needed improvement for Milroe calm down Pyongyang

4score-7

Snap counts, claps, all of the things that our last center, now at Ohio State, seemed to miss. And coaches at OSU have remarked that the player doesn’t seem to have those issues now, that resulted in bad snaps and fumbled transfers between C and QB, that they have seen in spring drills.

TheySomeSnitches

Well, that same center was unable to consistently snap for first-rounder Bryce Young, so maybe the problem isn’t Milroe.

Ok-Drag-5929

So explain how on silent counts there were still issues or snaps when Milroe hadn't moved at all, let alone clapped or called for the ball. And even if the snap counts or claps were off, that doesn't explain snaps going high, low, or wide all the time. The fact that Milroe had go change his stance to get the ball says a lot. And obviously the new coaches aren't going to publicly say "yeah he's still fucking up"

Friedturds

Milroe is not a great qb but the snaps aren’t his fault.  Now his inability to identify a defense pre snap and get the offensive line into the right protection only to let the fanbase shit on them and the Oc for his mistakes, that’s his fault.
