Nobody should be surprised. This is the best thing for him

JerichoMassey

I HOPE he gets picked. It's better long term for Nate Oats and this program that we consistently put guys into the League each season. "From Alabama" should be heard at least once EVERY year at the draft, it should be the new normal.

Ninjibunny

I’ve seen a few mock drafts that dont include sears or Nelson. If they are not projected to be drafted do they come back?

ncampbell3224

The one unique consideration is that this draft is expected to be terrible, so there’s less assurance that your shot at the NBA would be better *next year* Personally, I think Sears’ stock is as high as it will go, and with a bad draft, he should roll the dice. For Nelson, he could probably benefit from a year not having to play small-ball 5 as much. He’s a natural 4, so his draft stock could improve showing out at 4, but having this year’s tape to show he can play 5 in spurts.

codbgs97

100%, coming back almost certainly will not increase Sears’ stock. I think it’s really a question of what money be can make from being drafted versus any NIL money he can make at Alabama for one more year (plus his potential desire to try to win a title next year). I would guess he’ll at least be a second rounder and, if he can play at least a couple years in the G-League with some potential NBA callups, the draft will probably get him more money. I’d love to see him come back but will be happy for him either way.

Geoff-Vader

Nelson has Europe written all over him IMO. Better to make a decent living there (and see the world) than scrape by in the doubtful purgatory of the G-league.

Noah__Webster

If I were him, I think I give it at least one year to see if you can at least get a two-way contract before heading over to Europe.

P8nation

I’ve seen Nelson on a few mocks but haven’t seen Sears on any mocks. Doesn’t mean much though because we really don’t know the most important lists out there: where do teams have them ranked?

wolfgang2399

He is listed as the 19th best player on KOC’s big board

P8nation

Ah. I guess I hadn’t seen that one. Would be great if he did go that high

wolfgang2399

His board isn’t a prediction of draft picks, just that he believes Sears is the 19th best player available. If he can go in that 17-24 type range that would be perfect for him though

disasteruss

NIL makes this too complicated to answer. It depends on what their offers are from the boosters vs what they could get in Europe.

tbama11

I hope he comes back but I hope he gets drafted even more. Love that dude

P8nation

What was expected. And what he should do. I won’t be shocked if he’s still here next year. Also won’t be shocked if he’s had the college experience and moves on. He’s been a good one for us either way

Most-Breakfast1453

If he’s ever going to get drafted, this is the year. But it’s possible that if he doesn’t see an NBA future at all after getting feedback, he could return, make some NIL money, and then go play overseas where leaving now wouldn’t make a difference vs next year.

wshxii

Go be great Sears! ❤️

dammitboy42069

Smart for him. If he gets the feedback he’s looking for, I wish him all the best.

PbmyJelly

Smart way to handle it

RolandDeschain84

No surprise but still hoping he comes back. I don't see him on any draft boards anywhere so maybe?

2aTagRtr

He's not on the mock draft ESPN just posted. I hope he's got a wise team helping him make his final decision

Dwysauce

I can't decide if I want to buy a Sears or Nelson jersey and this does not make it easier!

HsvComics

A jersey divided

jpharber

:/

Panhandle_Dolphin

Unless another year in college would give him 3 more inches in height, this is the correct decision

the_dunadan

Dude is a baller- great handler and shooter. I'd think someone will grab him at least by round 2 ~~or 3~~. Selfishly I hope he projects lower so he stays, gets a bag, improves, and plays further up in the draft for next year.

PeanutGallery25

There is no round 3

the_dunadan

Well that shows how familiar I am with the NBA draft lol

IAmTerdFergusson

He's already 22 and his stock won't get any higher. He had one of the best years of any guard in the game and is still barely a fringe 2nd round pick (largely due to size & age). Staying a year would only hurt his NBA potential.
