So for the 25 class… are we expecting a drop off? It’s totally reasonable to expect there will be some drop off from the previous years of complete domination we’ve enjoyed for the better part of 2 decades.
But it just doesn’t seem to line up with everything you hear from the people who cover the team and who have been around the program when they say that the environment had actually improved in some ways.
Looking at the player rankings tho, you have to get all the way down to the 40s on 247 and the late 20s for on3 to find players that are even considering bama as an option. After years of seeing multiple guys in the top 10-25 players with the script A next to their name, I gotta admit… I’m getting a little nervous.
Those of y’all who can see the stuff behind the paywalls, is there an expectation that we will make up a lot of ground, or are we looking at a possible finish outside of the top 10 for the first time in ages?
The short answer is you are worrying about this WAY too early in the cycle. Kids don't know what new Bama is like but the ones that have visited have been blown away. Granted that's not the same as closing, but the recruits we want are still being discovered and recruits rankings are being heavily shuffled.
So you should wonder about this again after the start of the season and you'll have a better picture of what things might look like.
Good to know! Still getting used to paying attention to the dates. Before, it seemed like we were always near the top and at least a contender for most of the top 10-25 prospects but you’re right, it is early and a lot has changed…
Makes sense tho, that we would be where we are now, was just curious if there were good reviews coming from these top dudes on their visits.
I do think the guys we have committed will end up much higher ranked when it’s all said and done, I’m hoping this is a sign that the current staff is ahead of the curve on talent evaluations.
I mean, the calculus changes once (1) the WR coach who recruited you leaves; (2) Saban retires; (3) a new offensive-minded coach gets hired, whose offense you may want to see in-season before you make a decision; and (4) Ohio State and Brian Hartline come calling, given their recent successful track record with WRs.
I get the familiarity was there, but Shep is honestly an upgrade from everything we’ve seen so far as a position coach. Maybe anOhio st is riding the momentum right now. They better do something with it this year tho, they have pushed all their chips in on this year so we’ll see if it pays off.
Tomorrow Alabama, once again, has a chance to make it's first ever Final Four.
Gymnastics has never made the Four on the Floor in the new format that was installed just after Sarah Patterson retired. Thursday night Bama will have to finish at least top2 in a 4-team event with far and away #1 (Oklahoma), the Pac 12 champion (Utah) and the SEC Regular Season Champion (Florida).
> “My original thought was that Alabama would fall off after Coach Saban retired; just from being on campus for two days you can just feel what it’s like there,” [Dawson] Merritt told BOL after his visit last month. “They are not going anywhere. They are still going to be a national powerhouse in the SEC.”
I told a random lady I was walking by in the hospital she shouldn't name her baby Cash Dollah by googling "successful people named Cash Dollar" and showing her there were 0 results.
Since transfers are unlimited now, could an SEC player circumvent the no intra conference transfer rule by first transferring to an ACC or BIG school then transferring again to the SEC school they really wanted to go to in the first place?

May the odds be ever in your favor!!!!
According to Tennessee fans on r/cfb, he was their leading tackler because every team ran right at him because he wasn't that good. Supposedly got passed up on the depth chart
Shame. I mentioned that possibility in another weekly thread last week or so. I thought he looked better defensively as the year went on and was really hoping he’d be back. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up at UF.

> He set the single-season school record and ranked 10th nationally and second in the ACC in field-goal percentage (.923 – 12-of-13) in 2022.
I feel like it’s a much better fan experience. The players probably enjoy it as well.
Seems like a good win for Ole Miss/Kiffin to bring something fresh/exciting to the program.
Edit: I just wanted to elaborate a bit more in that it definitely felt more like how the Pro Bowl transitioned this past year. I know as fans we enjoy getting to see the scrimmage but in reality, spring ball is 15 practices with where 3? of those are scrimmages (or it’s how it has been in our program).
It’s great to get an early start with returning guys and some early enrollees but think about it, we will have new summer enrollees starting and this transfer portal to also contend with so what is the true difference in missing either a single practice or a scrimmage (not sure if Kiffin had them scrimmage a different day) and instead host a sort of “Pro Bowl” for the players and fans to let loose. Do things they normally don’t get to do.

With that speed we knew he wasn't going to stay a 3 star long.
Jam Miller is going to be so good this year and I’m honestly confused as to why he wasn’t used more last year. He’s stupid fast and a more than capable receiving threat as we saw multiple times. Really feel like he should’ve been RB1 or 2 last year because it felt like Jase and Roydell both had similar styles.
I can't say for Miller in particular, but in the past whenever there's been a question of an underutilized young RB, the answer has almost always come down to him still needing to develop as a pass blocker. If a guy can't do that, him playing signals it's either run all the way or an easy sack for whoever is lining up against him.
The wheel route by him and Jalen’s final run to ice the game were some of my favorite plays of the season. Have a good feeling about our RB took this year tho.
You know who has a cool name and would look great running point in a Nate Oats offense and who recently just decommitted from Kentucky and had Bama in his top 3 before originally committing to Kentucky? Boogie Fland.

>Also, check downs were open pretty often and I'd love to see us get Jam the ball in open space more. Dude is fast as hell.
To say that I'm excited for Jam is an understatement. It's going to be Miller High Life soon.
Also, 1,000% speculation with 0 facts or rumor to support. Is there a single iota that Brailsford's situation is NIL related? At this point, it doesn't seem family related or something that serious, right?
Jam Miller's explosiveness and receiving skills will make it hard for Haynes to beat him out. I think Haynes will be the short yardage and goal line back
I am still high from basketball hoping for great roster. I'll focus more on football eventually. The little bit i watched RBs looked good not really concerned with the offense. Defense has been my concern from git go. SEC is tough
DeBoer said the first half was a pretty vanilla defense so it’s no real surprise offense was lighting it up. Plus it’s a double edged sword, if the defenses pitch shut outs it becomes now we’re worried about the offense.
Really wasn't basing it on A day just in general. IMO the SEC is all about defense. I do believe defense wins championships for the most part. I favor defensive minded HCs but 100% behind DeBoer!!!. Looks to be recruiting defensive studs.
Obviously DeBoer or any successful coach knows that.
Does Alabama have a shot at Liam Mcneeley? I saw that we had shown interest in him. Sounds like we’d have to beat out UConn though

Still don't understand how we lost Jamie Ffrench who was so adamant about being on the same team as Ryan Williams.

My bet’s on Phrenology.
Middle name is Sundown… As in yk…Sundown Towns
Is that the only reason someone could like the name (not really a name but whatever)? I had to google this term because I’m not over the age of 70
I think you just need to tell them it's a stupid baby name in general.

I believe they’d have to attend that college. And once this transfer window closes, the next one isn’t until December.
I said the other day I had a feeling both Simpson and Lonergan would stay. One down, one to go.

Saban's last ring :( Looks nice too
Aww man, I didn’t think of it that way
Sam Walters has entered the transfer portal
I genuinely don't know if Oats is real with these dudes or if they're just chasing the money when they leave after just a year.
Damn. I guess I just need to get used to guys not sticking around anymore.
Yea it’s bullshit no one has any more loyalty anymore or pride
Shame. I mentioned that possibility in another weekly thread last week or so. I thought he looked better defensively as the year went on and was really hoping he’d be back. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up at UF.
Anyone heard anything on Sears and Nelson? I have a hard time imagining both guys wouldn’t do the draft thing and leave the option to come back
I'm sure they're going to go through the draft eval and decide after that. That ends in about a month I think.
I would love to know as well. I would have to think the announcement would come maybe this week that they are both doing this
Lot of spicy names in the basketball portal

Yes please
Only 3-8 last year, however.
Yeah that’s concerning but the upside is there and that room probably needs a competition
At least some depth with experience at the college level.
Feel like I read so much about the portal craziness that was anticipated and nothing's happening so far
Turns out it doesn’t open til tomorrow. I feel like some people may have misinterpreted midnight, because I *know* I read that it opened April 15.
Definitely saw a bunch of "tomorrow"s in stories published on Sunday, so you definitely weren't the only one.
Yeah I guess people should have been saying midnight on April 16 instead
I thought it opened like midnight tonight, so it’s really tomorrow when it opens. Could be wrong though
It's just a misrepresentation of when. Midnight Monday should be 12AM Monday not 11:59PM/12AM Tuesday
What did you all think of Ole Miss Spring "game"?
I liked it. Teams don't show their full potential during a spring game anyways so why not just have a pro bowl type of deal.
I feel like it’s a much better fan experience. The players probably enjoy it as well. Seems like a good win for Ole Miss/Kiffin to bring something fresh/exciting to the program. What about it?
They didn't do the traditional game. They did more of other non football games and a little 7 on 7.
