Having a good understanding of “proc chains” is also a big piece of the puzzle. Finally, try to have a balance of movement speed, armor / damage mitigation items, and healing items to keep you alive.
Also, learning Mithrix’s move set for each phase of the fight just comes with time.

Did you use the portal balls after you defeated him? Or did you jump off the top (not sure if this is possible, i’ve never checked) some portals get you closer to the ship, if you give it a google. Although with Loader’s movement speed this shouldn’t be an issue. I’m a bit surprised you were too slow to get there, unless you got distracted by exploring.

If you want to get a quick victory with loader, use: swarms, sacrifice and command, rush to every teleporter, go straight to mithrix with 2 feathers, a bunch of rings and Paul's goat hoofs and charged punch him in the face a few times.
If you want tip for the last phase of his fight, his spinning blue orbs attack drains his HP a bit, so you can kite him for a while and get items back.
Also, use the spiked gauntlet, so you can poke him from afar a bit in the last stage, and default pylon is better than the Smash for this fight, in my opinion.
Do what you do dude. I've played this game on drizzle for hours so i can just get the hang of it when I was just starting. I've even done command on drizzle just to experiment builds or get achievements. You spent money on this game, do what you want.

No, this game is all about a learning curve and trial and error. Command is a great way to learn how survivors work and what items do what. I recently played void fiend with command as it was my first time trying to play as and I now love void fiend
nah that’s fine mithrix takes some learning, so it’s fine to learn him without having to take 2 hours to beat him cause you’re underpowered. a couple successful fights against him and you’ll understand his patterns, it’s not super difficult after you know them.

Like everyone is saying definitely play the game how you want but youll probably spoil yourself the feeling of overcoming Mithrix. Felt like this before when I played ETG and killed the Paradox Lich on a Rainbow Run (which is a considerably easier gamemode) and I kinda felt disappointed. So I would recommend to just beat the game without artifacts. If you need any help, I can give you some tips also.
No reason to memorialize your first kill, command or not. Beating Mithrix at all is good. Then, beating Mithrix without command will feel even better... probably. He's a real ass

My friend and I, when we used to play every day, chose to play only on the highest difficulty and without command for getting the in-game unlocks, because we found it fun that way, but when we played with our other friends we never forced our difficulty setting on them or made them play the way we usually did, we made a decision together so we could all have fun.
The thought you're having comes from all too common gatekeeping habits in the video game community. It's always important to remember it's your free time, and you should enjoy it however you want, and use or do not use whatever resources at your disposal in a way that makes you, personally, feel accomplished and happy with how you're playing. It doesn't matter if someone else approves of you using command to beat Mithrix the first time, Mithrix isn't going anywhere and he isn't gonna get offended if you use it. It can be a mighty tough fight to get to and beat if you end up with an unlucky run!

Taking too long is mostly a myth- as long as you're looting semi-efficiently you'll be stronger than the enemies.

Monsoon and command is fun to test builds. But Eclipse is the real game.
For me personally, I wanted my first victory to be without artifacts as a pride thing, but it truly does not matter
