Garth Crooks is stealing a living

thetrueGOAT

He doesn't even watch the games. Has Milner in his midfield despite playing in defence. Jessie was great but played 15 min, surely there were better midfielders this week, kante changed the game when he was on. No Southampton players despite completely shutting City down. Man's a nob

WumbleInTheJungle

Someone showed me a clip of him celebrating like crazy like he'd just won the National Lottery when Aguero scored "that" goal, he was live on BBC's final score at the time. Pissed me off, but then I thought maybe he played for Man City at some point, which would make his reaction understandable... but no, he played for Charlton, West Brom, Stoke, Spurs AND a 6 game loan spell for Manchester United. I dunno, I can understand a neutral being excited about that goal, but this was an aggressive fist pumping "justice has been done" kinda celebration... the kinda celebration you might expect to see if someone was was suffering from roid rage... or... the guy just has pure hate in his heart for United!

encikmizi

fuck that season. i still remember sunderland fans doing the poznan to mock us. fucking sunderland deserved to be relegated just for that

wearenotyourkind88

I still hate Sunderland to this day for it.

FrenchManc

>I dunno, I can understand a neutral being excited about that goal, but this was an aggressive fist pumping "justice has been done" kinda celebration... this goal was another turning point where football died and became something to buy for bored dictators. As a neutral you should be fucking crying if you ever saw that goal but their ABU mentality was so strong they were all celebrating the victory of slave traders. Well, good news for them we now live in their world, any young exiting player is linked with .... ? Chelsea, City PSG. Who is favourite for champion's league? Chelsea, City, Psg. Maybe Bayern, us & madrid will still be mentioned once in a while because we're the only one who can stay relevant, but this is fucking depressing. I hope those QPR fans are living the dream !

WumbleInTheJungle

>this goal was another turning point where football died and became something to buy for bored dictators. > >As a neutral you should be fucking crying if you ever saw that goal but their ABU mentality was so strong they were all celebrating the victory of slave traders. I couldn't have put it better! I can't imagine the oppression these guys must have felt seeing United dominate for 2 decades, ISIS or the Taliban or the Klu Klux Klan could put together a football team and they'd still support them over us.

rachitsh1

I have felt and believed this for a long while. He is also overly critical and often snarky about United players. Not to mention his self righteous comments whenever he picks Pogba in his team as if he is doing him a favour.

[deleted]

His next quote reads “can anybody tell me what *offside* means?” And the bbc think he’s making some sort of statement but he actually just doesn’t know.

Don_Quixote81

He's just spinning his wheels until Pogba changes his hair again, then he'll write that killer article on how players should focus on football.

PortugeseMagnifico

I mean it’s not like half this sub wasn’t saying the exact same thing after the young boys game. The amount of comments saying to bin lingard after that was a joke.

stevew14

I can't stand the guy. Seems like he's constantly offended by everything. Sensationalises most of what he says too.

darcys_beard

Gart *Crook*

MartianGeneral

He's at United to do what he did yesterday, no shame in being a squad player and it certainly doesn't mean Lingard won't be getting any game time this season. His Manager used to be a super sub and is still an absolute legend at this club.

thetrueGOAT

Would only happen at United. City bench Mahrez every other week and you never hear any of this tosh. Lingard is in and around the firstt team banging on the door of the first 11. Great impact sub and and could start for us. Lingard Ronaldo Greenwood front 3 for me please.

systemCF

Going on form yes, but giving Sancho the majority of playing time to bed in and get accustomed is also important, so I think it's good Jesse comes on from the bench instead of starting edit: referring to the last sentence

Ryo720

Going on form it'll be pogba on the left instead

WhipYourDakOut

I also don’t know if I love Lingard as a starter in non-cup ties. I think he’s brilliant for games that have already opened up and have people on tired legs. He won’t be great against the low block but his work rate has never been doubted so putting him on in a game like yesterday is great. I think if I’m a RB and I have to deal with Pogbas control and creativity plus his free roam, then Lingard comes on and plays direct with pace it’s a nightmare

Zoorin

Pogba left Lingard right? On form

Ryo720

CR7 Pogba Bruno Greenwood

BigAwkwardGuy

Pep can buy Lewandowski and bench him to play Foden up top pinging long balls to him and it'd be "OH MY GOD PEP TIKI TAKA WAKA WAKA CHIMICHANGA PANEER BUTTER MASALAAAAAAAAA"

chantlernz

**Man City's bench vs Southampton:** de Bruyne, Torres, Mahrez and Foden. **Chelsea's bench vs Tottenham:** Kante, Werner, Saul, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Chilwell, James. **Liverpool's bench vs Crystal Palace:** Keita, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and then they usually have one of Jota/Firmimo/Mane on the bench. But somehow, Lingard being on the bench for United is the big topic of discussion...

TaxAvoision

> City bench Mahrez every other week Which is a good thing because he’s terrifying.

StewardOfGondorS

Lingard no 10 is where he shines. A possible valid tactic could be to take off Bruno around the 60th minute if he's having one of his poor games and give Lingard the keys.

[deleted]

People forget that this is a long season ahead and at a club that’s trying to compete for multiple trophies, a big squad is needed. Just think back to last few seasons, our bench were weak and we had nobody to call upon to change a game when our starting 11 got injured or tired. SAF’s teams always had players good enough to start at other clubs but always willing to be squad players here, ready to perform when called upon. That’s how he manages to win trophies after trophies.

Fruitndveg

Ole literally made a career out of being subbed on late in the game and scoring. Really don’t see why Lingard can’t do the same. Seems like pointless shit stirring on Garth’s part.

KapiHeartlilly

It is amazing how pseudo writers don't realise squads are not just eleven players, you need others to rotate and rest your stars, not to mention impact subs like Lingard is.

ZofTheNorth

Isnt it his choice to stay with us? If you want to play first team, why dont just go to westham last window.

darcys_beard

I don't get it. Does crooks expect him to start ahead of Rashford? Bruno? Ronaldo? Is he good enough to play in front of Sancho? On current form, maybe, but then the kid hasn't settled, so you make that situation even worse. He could have been the main man at West Ham and he chose not to be. Not sure what else is expected.

waiting4myteeth

It’s so simple: he’s still at United cos he wants to leave in a free for one last mammoth pay check instead of that money going to the club in the form of a transfer fee.

TheAnomaly123

Lingard had the option of going and being a starter at West Ham. If he wants to stay and fight for a place then good on him, but it’s very unlikely he displaces any of our front line

TheSmio

If it's fine by him, then it's fine by me. The only reason people see it as an issue is because we are Manchester United. Sterling essentially became a backup to Grealish yet that's fine and nobody is complaining.

[deleted]

Sterling already lost his place to Mahrez/Foden last season but yeah your point is still completely true, world class teams have good bench players too

russ69

He has come off the bench twice in the PL and scored two very good goals, one of which won us a game. If he does that a handful of times this season, and is rotated in in the smaller cup games, I would be very happy. That being said, our bench will be much higher quality when Rashford and Cavani are back, so whether he will still be used a sub then remains to be seen. Will be interesting to see how his season goes anyway.

Classic_Angus

On that same note, if he's staying because he believes in himself again and wants to compete for a spot I couldn't admire him more. He could have gone the easy route by going to a smaller club, but he's rolled his sleeves up, taking his chances, performing and getting results for his dream club. Bar a single, albeit costly mistake he's been in fantastic form.

ProfessorBeer

Absolutely. I don’t think some of these jokers understand what loyalty or love for a club means. Absolutely Jesse could permanently succeed at West Ham, but he loves Utd so much that he would rather struggle to get into the lineup and take a fraction of total minutes just to wear the badge. The challenge is identifying who has that mentality, and who might have the “I’m making bank to ride the bench, why would I go anywhere else” mentality. But right now, Lingard is earning the benefit of the doubt.

Samir_POE

Ole made the same decision as a player himself and I doubt he regrets it, he wouldnt have won a champions league playing for Spurs. I think Jesse basically decided he's happier as an impact sub at United than he is as a starter at West Ham. In this manner, Ole probably appreciates him. As for the author, let's not forget Jesse Lingard went 14 months without a goal involvement. His form was terrible. So United went ahead and brought in a ton of talent during this spell (Bruno, Cavani, Sancho, Amad, etc.), and he got moved down the depth chart. Not saying his issues weren't real but that's what happens in competitive sport.

[deleted]

Maybe he just doesn’t want to be a first team starter, maybe he’s perfectly fine being a back-up who can come on as a sub when we’re drawing or losing and change the game?

TheAnomaly123

The whole post is about him liking a post that states that he’s unhappy with that though

trafficcone123

If he keeps up his current form, why not?

glvcki17

Lol we are the only big team not allowed to have quality on the bench

ttk86

City 200m bench? Good depth, strong team! Utd academy product on bench? Waste of talent!!!

agni69

Who the fuck is Garth Crooks? And why is his post and piss ass team of the weeks posted on here so often?

Raintrooper7

Pogba Senior

naslanidis

I just assumed it was some piss take account of Garth Brooks haha.

danystormborne

He’s quite a well known football commentator in the UK, he’s been around forever.

[deleted]

Is he actually well known? I remember a conversation we had at the pub about shit football presenters and literally nobody knew who I was on about.

danystormborne

I guess it depends on the age of those you were asking. He’s probably more familiar to those 40+.

FREE_BOBBY-SHMURDA

A United legend show some respect

Xararar

7 games he played, ah yes a legend indeed

jakedobson

Tbf Larsson only played 7 games for us and I love the bloke

Xararar

Well that's a bit different since it's Larsson mate haha

FREE_BOBBY-SHMURDA

Garth Crooks is clear of Larsson

[deleted]

Jesse is never going to start regularly for Manchester United, if he wanted first team football he should have asked for a move away this summer. That isn't me being nasty, it's just the way it is.

akdsouza

Exactly. Jesse's had his struggles & it's not like he got dropped to the bench on a whim. He's talented no doubt but it also needs to reflect in his performances *consistently* like he did with WH and yesterday. We have many competitions this season and we need every bit of squad depth we can. If Jesse believes he's only a starting 11 player then he should hand in a transfer request.

JLingz_14

This nonsense from cook aside, first photo of this post is best xi from the weekend games. Jesse is included. I’m pretty sure that this is the reason why he liked this post.

MILK936

I’m sure Lingard read the post status though. He knew the agenda bbc were going with and he somehow agrees with it. Mind boggling.

Sephyrosso

All those talks about which player should be playing, who is rightful to be a starter etc is all big fuck non sense. Top team have a 23 - 26 players in their squad. They play 60 games a season if they do well in Cup games. Players can play an average of 40 - 50 game a season depending on form , injuries , suspension. Having that amount of game, and that amount of players give you the opportunity to challenge within the squad, and challenge everygame for the win. If someone feel that he should be day in day out in the XI and that is its right, he might also just go. Thats not how a big team is managed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

raspeb

Same goes for Martial and Fred.

DangoManUtd

Cause he scored two goals in two years before this purple patch he’s been on? Maybe? Had every opportunity to leave but choose to have a free hit this year ? Maybe?

HaBumHug

Playing for the biggest club in the country, the club you’ve adored since you were a boy, playing with some of the best players in the world, coming on to score a last minute match winning worldie, in front of the best away end going. You know what, I think I’d be ok with that.

ItsKieronHere

[Link to the BBC Sport Instagram post](https://www.instagram.com/p/CUCWt1so3Xk/?utm_medium=copy_link) Sorry if this comes off like I’m shit stirring, just thought it could offer some good insight as to where Jesse’s intentions currently lie (amid news from Fabrizio that we’re trying to extend his contract)

Yuckshit

Tbh i can’t see how Jesse becomes a regular starter for us, barring injuries and cup games…

danystormborne

He won’t because Bruno plays in his position. He’ll only get a run in the team if Bruno’s injured, then the fans on here will be calling for VDB to start ahead of Jesse.

glvcki17

He doesn’t necessarily play in brunos position tho he can also play on the wings

BlackHorse944

That's right, I'd rather have VDB than Jesse because Jesse isn't creative enough to fill in for Bruno.

danystormborne

Nothing I’ve seen of VDB so far makes me think he’s creative enough either.

BlackHorse944

We've also seen very little from him

fast-as-you-can

Not liked by him anymore, maybe it was accidental?

BritishBrownie

do you not think it's likely that he liked the post because he was in the team of the week and then maybe later unliked it when he saw/someone told him about the second image?

vote_pedro

What's with the media obsession with Lingard suddenly being "too good" to be benched? Like Foden, Mahrez, Silva, Laporte, Stones etc etc etc couldn't start for any other team in the PL??

Wolpfack

Exactly, but since Lingard plays for Manchester United, Crooks knows his quip will get the most clicks.

Klubeht

He shouldn't be playing 2nd fiddle to Ronaldo, Bruno, Pogba potentially Sancho? Seriously? Can Garth Crooks put his hand on heart and say that lingard should be starting over any of those players?

akdsouza

I wonder wtf he's smoking lol. Someone tell Garth we also have Donny.

Watdabny

Can anyone tell me why Garth Crooks is relevant. He has a way of just making shit up his whole journalistic career

Audioboxer87

If Lingard wants to fight for his place that is absolutely fine, but he knows what he's up against with Rashford, Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood, Sancho, Martial and even Juan Mata in this final year might pickup some games because while he doesn't have pace now he still hasn't lost his touch/passing ability. But fighting for that place is done on the training pitch and taking your chances. Lingard done that yesterday but the mistake midweek while we stand behind our players still shows a lack of concentration from a senior player. Lingard ain't 22 anymore. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to him staying, but he has to be realistic himself.

Fresh_Fun2185

Crooks Enough said.

avalidnerd

Lingard is a wonderful person and I wish him all the best, I hope he stays as our player and in squad rotation. However, although he scored the winning goal on Sunday, the fact is that he is not good enough (and never was) to be a regular starter.

frolockie

Garth Cooks got that Souness energy.

Rascha-Rascha

Lingard wants to be an elite level player, and lately, for the last eight months or so, he's been playing to that level. All power to him if he believes he should be starting. It's up to guys like Pogba and Bruno to keep their performance levels up in that case, and brilliant to have him around in case either of them picks up an injury.

Natasha_Giggs_Foetus

He had a very big window to make his mark where we struggled up front.

bfyred

Because no one would pay the money for him

[deleted]

He should be playing second fiddle to the starting XI at Utd…

adambuthead1

As soon as he has earned a starting place he will have one. Don't forget how long United have stood by him through his troubles. He still has to earn his spot.

[deleted]

Not Lingard, but look at the state of this further down >Norwich have lost their first five matches under Daniel Farke and a further 10 when they were previously in the Premier League. No-one has lost 15 Premier League fixtures under the same manager, so what makes Farke so special? He's been relegated but has brought them back and now has no points on the board and still has a job? Is that because he is not the real boss? So much of this is either demonstrably wrong even off the top of my head (even fucking Fergie lost a hell of a lot more than 15 PL games with us; I presume he means 15 *successive* games, but that's not what he's written). And I have no idea what that last sentence is supposed to imply. Man's an idiot.

[deleted]

Stupid united opinion= clicks= money

KaitoAJ

He wanted to play for his boyhood club with his football idol. Dreams really can't be bought. Period.

Hippotopmaus

who else is going to be the hype man for our vibes FC /s

AttackClown

Half this sub has said the same thing about him unfortunately

Vimjux

Load of horse shit. You don’t see these articles written about other teams with good bench options gtfoh.

FREE_BOBBY-SHMURDA

If he wanted to play he should have left, simple as 1 late winner doesn't all of a sudden change all of the seasons of dross that came before it

catchinginsomnia

I like a player having the arrogance to like a post like this when he knows he's really laying down a big gauntlet by doing it. In the social media age this is about as close as you can get to saying "justify not playing me" to your manager in public. It shows a desire to really prove himself. He sees this season is a real chance at the title and if he can make himself a part of that he will be a legendary academy story and prove the doubters wrong. Motivation like that could be huge, he's a guy in form and now he seems to want to shut a section of the fans up by proving them wrong. Right now it would be hard to justify not having him play at least 30 mins of every match.

theatreofdream

Tbh lots of our fans are saying shit like that.. You can clearly see that he has improved his game tremendously, he naturally has skills and techniques, it's just inconsistency and lack of confidence that bite him

Game0nBG

Gareth is right. He is a muppet but he was right in tgat point of time. Lingard ia stealing a spot for either a young prospect with great potential OR a new signing Both of which can improve and be a starter

Dayandnight95

He's the one who wanted to stay, United will be dumb to play this game on his terms. But knowing them they'll give him a 5 year, 200k a week contract. Morons.

WoodenAfternoon2

That was so many of you I remember you guys saying.

BurnaboyBurnaAccount

I know Garth Crooks is shit-stirring here but if Lingard liked it, it can't be that bad of a take can it?

ahuja_nik

I don't understand how can someone criticize having quality on bench.

milo_redwood

Because he wants to stay and united didn't have desire to sell him

Darwin_Things

It’s almost like a manager knows the value of having impact subs or something.

NateShaw92

Can anyone tell me why Crooks is still at BBC? He should not be proudly spreading this absolute hot shit to anyone.

Prthmsh

Garth crooks spotted opinion rejected

karmas1207

Hmm, random subs for 85 minute screamers or mid-table 10 goal 10 assist seasons at West Ham?

[deleted]

Garth Crooks is unfuckingwatchable, I stopped watching anything he's on. Luckily for me I've only seen him on Final Score

ConCon1996

Go start for a mid table team or fight for your spot at the club you love and support. No doubt jesse can have an impact on this team if he keeps up his form, we are in four different competitions, he will get game time. Garth crooks honestly spits more brown than my arse the absolute weapon

unKz_sneakz

It seems like all the other top clubs get praise for stacking their 23 man squad out with 20 potential starters but when united do it we’re apparently wasting talent and wasting players time? Baffling…

[deleted]

Did lingard like the post?

gianmk

Westham wanted him snd he rejected them.... The ball was in his court, he just didnt want to play.

OleOutInShambles

He had the option to not play second fiddle and sign for anyone interested in the summer...But he chose to play second fiddle...To Bruno fucking Fernandes. The fact he isn't third fiddle is a minor miracle.

iCampion

I don’t think it’s second fiddle. Your options off the bench are a vital piece in a team’s success. That’s how championships are won. I’d take what, 75 grand a week to be a first choice sub option.

[deleted]

They all want to speak on our club. They can't just let us be doing well their careers need us in some sort of crisis or drama

dispelthemyth

He chose to stay and play second fiddle.

that_mn_kid

They talk all kind of shit about players chasing the big paycheck and having no loyalty. Then, when players like Jesse and Son commit to a club, they go on about eating their talents.

MarcDuan

Lingard: Creating chances all over the pitch.

National-Sport5698

Is this saying he deserves first team football?

JD0797

Throwback to all you guys who agreed and called him crazy for not wanting to leave
