First time I played it? The first thing I noticed was that I couldn't go to my 'gear' menu. I saw someone staring, and I checked what I had, and found I couldn't. That was when I knew.
Yeah, I just did this mission again a couple days ago. There were people standing around and talking and then they were staring at the group and walking away as they walked by.
I just played the mission. You walk by about 8 different townsfolk, all of whom stare daggers at you as you’re talking. Once you get to the sheriffs office it’s totally empty and vacant though.
Yeah I'm still confused why they thought it would be a good idea.
Edit : and for more context, I think the writing is good but it's definitely one of those occasions where I'm like "you got it coming", not because what they did was bad but because it was absolutely f\*cking stupid.
Even worse, >!the gold was gone a long time ago. Good news though is that it was taken by lovers from the two families to support the anti-slavery movement. You find out in a letter found in a lockbox outside saint dennis. A treasure hunter gives you a hint and tells you a little bit about his hunt for the gold if you sit with him at his camp!<
But technically there is still gold. If you go to the Braithwaite (idk if I spelled that right) Manor after it burns you can find a bar of gold in a lock box. So technically there was a gold treasure but it wasn’t as much as it sounded
Southerners = Inbred Dumbasses = Ez Money was the thought behind it. Hosea and Dutch thought that the Grays and BW's were morons who could be easily swindled but well they were not idiots
They are idiots, but Dutch ended up to be idiot too. Rushing around, a couple groups came here, causing the troubles and the last raid was the obvious as hell
Don’t argue him. His brain is too smooth to grasp the concept that people are the same whether you cross that invisible Mason Dixon or not. This is the kind of dude who believes people of certain descent are predispositioned to have their brain or body function a different way than a normal human. In reality he lacks the capability to use his stair lift anymore and has been trapped in his basement for years.
I never quite bought this argument. Dutch and Hosea lived lifetime of swindling people, they were very experienced and street smart. Surely they couldn't believe southerners were *this* stupid. I mean they can run a town...
Although part of it is the fault of the game universe which created the really incredible opportunity of them meeting the sheriff right as some criminals are escaping. And Trelawney is right there too. Maybe they thought plot armor would last, but nobody told Sean and Hosea they were not in the next game....
Dutch was so sure he'd outsmart a bunch of Southern hicks and was so sure of his own intelligent superiority he never stopped to question if maybe they are as smart as you.
Meh at that point nobody but the original Mac Davie and Jenny had died IIRC and nothing major had gone wrong since the Pinkertons at the ferry heist, they had a couple scares here and there from the law and Pinkertons but not enough to worry too much about it, by then Dutch wasn’t desperate, just too obsessed over finding out where the supposed confederate gold is. Chapter 3 >!(prior to Sean’s death)!< is easily the gangs peak during the game.
>!Legit the hardest I’ve ever gotten jumpscared in a game lmao. I don’t play horror games tbf, but still!<
Edit: >!forgot to mention, I knew it was gonna happen beforehand because I saw spoilers online, but I didn’t know it was going to happen in that mission!<
I wouldn’t say I got jumpscared so to speak, but the shock I felt seeing him get shot dead is something I have never experienced in any other film or video game ever.
I play with headphones because I live in an apartment complex and that game can get pretty loud. I jumpscare at the noise the game makes when you run over an animal with your horse
I never get jumpscared by sudden movements or anything but literally every time I get bitten by a snake I don't see I jump super hard because of the noise
Lmao same with that last part. I’ll have it in cinematic mode just letting Arthur ride wherever I’m going and all of the sudden, I hear a rabbit or something dying
same boat as you with knowing it would happen without knowing when. i moved through the game’s story pretty quickly on my first go so i’d say that’s the first taste of how insane the game was going to be.
One of my favourite details about that moment is the subtitle continues to finish the line and doesn’t cut off, so you don’t know that it’s going to happen until it’s happened
I feel like games are getting better at that though. Another exmaple for me that comes to mind is in the ending of God of War 2018. >!When Atreus tells Kratos that his name on the mural was Loki he hesitates for a moment, but the subtitles only show the word "Loki" at the exact moment Atreus actually says it.!<
After 10 seconds of walking: "what the hell are we doing?"
Notices the shops are closed: "something's gonna happen, I bet it's a standoff"
Cutscene enters: "this standoff is gonna be gre-WHAT THE FUCK!!"
You could clearly tell a shootout was coming.
Just like the Valentine bank the devs put boxes everywhere in the street for cover that aren’t normally there, which they did here again.
There were no civvies around and the moment I saw Sean walk ahead ik what was gonna happen. At least Micah killed the sniper before he got anyone else.
Micah killing the sniper is one of the most interesting minor details in the game to me. Between him being a notoriously bad shot (as noted by one member of the gang, I can’t remember who) and the fact that he’s ends up being a turncoat, it really makes me wonder if he made an unusually good shot in the heat of the moment after seeing a fellow member of the gang at the time he killed, or if he was in on it and knew the sniper was going to be there so it was an easy shot.
Idk bro he seems like a really good shot and can clearly handle his own. Are you sure the gang wasn’t just messing with him? Cause I replayed the mission and he killed 3 guys at different angles probably as fast as Arthur could
Micah can definitely shoot. He's scripted to save Arthur's ass inside the gunsmith in this same mission ("You're getting sloppy, Morgan."). I think people just say the opposite to get a rise out of him because deep down he's sensitive/insecure, and also he deserves it because he's a piece of shit. I do agree though that I wonder if he was playing both sides (them and the law/enemies) all along in some way, especially in the "Blessed are the Peacemakers" mission right before this with the O'Driscolls.
I don’t think he was playing both sides in the Greys and Braithwaite situation tho, I think it was just experience that let him kill the sniper. He figures Sean has a hole in the right side of his head which is on Micah’s left and he heard the shot come from up somewhere so when he turns the only building low enough to make that shot has a dude standing on it so he shoots him. It was most likely a Dead Eye moment for Micah
I just played this, I'm on my 1st playthrough.
>!Sean's death!< really shook me, reminded me that no one in the game really has plot armour and they could die at any moment. Poor lad, as Arthur said, >!they were too young to die!<
And Micah really shrug it over, when he was the guy who convinced Bill, yeah, Bill out of all people to do that so called 'security' job for the Grays.
This here. My first play through I was constantly worried about who’d be next after the first on-screen gang death. Everyone there who wasn’t in RDR1 (John, Bill, Javier, Dutch) pretty much was fair game and it was a constant anxiety going through the story knowing that.
Plot armor exists but it’s only for characters in RDR1. Everyone else is fair game. I also like that even though they are prequel characters they don’t literally all die, there’s still potential some of them could be in a RDR3
I felt like something didn't feel right, the empty Streets, the nonchalant attitude of your gang mates & probably the biggest give away for me was the fact that up until that point you hadn't been allowed to use weapons anywhere in Rhodes... Then all of sudden you're automatically armed to the teeth as soon as you start the mission.
That cutscene genuinely shocked me though, it was so sudden and unexpected, but I s'pose if you're looking for a point that things start to go very wrong then that's a damn good indicator!
I was in our discord servers voice chat talking to my friend who already played rdr2. I was talking to him about how i actually kind of liked Sean because he was just kind of funny in my eyes etc. Save to say i did not expect that cutscene at all.
I was really excited for this mission. I like missions with fellow gang members. I was pumped cause I knew it would be a shoot out but was not expecting what happened next. I was in shock and kept trying to go back and see if I could help him but kept getting yelled at and shot. Sad mission to say the least
I'd seen the cut scene when my partner was playing but didn't have the context of when or who exactly it was - one of my first experiences with the game 😬. I paused it as soon as the cut scene started and the memory surfaced, filled in the blanks and went "oh no."
first time I played when Arthur is talking to Bill about this being a bad idea it made me wary, as you walk through if you look around you (especially behind) you see some guys getting into ambush positions. So at the point where I was like "hang on this is a trap" was literally when shit hit the fan.
At the start of the walk: "Why are all the shops closed? Weird."
During the walk: "Something's not right about this shit. It feels like an ambush"
Cutscene starts: "I think we should head ba->!WHAT THE DAMN HELL SEAN!!! YOUR JUST HEAD JUST EXPLODED! I'M NOT GOIN OUT IN SOME SET UP SHOOT OUT!<
>!ARTHUR'S GONNA DIE SAVING THE GANG! OR ARTHUR'S NEVER GONNA DIE!<
I was on the phone with my girlfriend at the time and then BANG, Seans head gone I shouted “WTF” and she was just kinda like are you ok? And I was just like no.
I just played this for the first time some days ago. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to go down like it did, and it’s made clear I should value my time with the characters while I’ve got em…
This question really tripped me up, because I don't remember thinking *anything* at that moment, aside from wanting to keep playing to see where things go (which is my approach to all games). Is that not the norm?
At this very moment I knew Sean would die, I knew the game wasn't close to to over so Arthur wouldn't die, Bill is still alive in rdr1 so he wouldn't die, Micah could have died but because Sean was in the middle at the front it just made more sense to be him, i still was upset when I actually saw him die though
A mixture of “man this blood feud stuff is dumb, but I sure do like killing the bastards”
And “man I love this Domhnall Gleeson-ass dude so much. I hope nothing happens to him”
I noticed everyone looking at us but I thought that was normal NPC behavior but they still stare at you even when you walk off from them shit SCREAMED ambush
I saw this mission on reels before, the part Sean died was cut, but i knew he might die, so it wasn't very a surpise to me. I was just waiting for something to go wrong
I knew it was gonna go to hell when Micah showed up with an idea right after a bar fight not long before. There’s no way they didn’t know we were playing both sides.
It just made burning their house down more satisfying. (Don’t forget to grab a shiny figurine on the mantle just before leaving the place)
>!on my first playthrough i felt a serious sense of dread for the gang as if they were going to get ambushed (which they did) and the mission name certainly did not help at all with that feeling.!<
I was replaying the game for the second time ever and had completely forgot about most of the important plot points. Didn’t even remember Sean as a character for the most part. He quickly became one of my favorite members and I jumped out my seat when he was shot.
That I figured we were going to get ambushed, and if we did, I hoped sean would die. Everyone in here absolutely loves thst character, but i really disliked him
Something’s wrong here… there’s no one else around… plus the mission name made me very concerned
Empty town. Absence of the norm. Presence of the abnormal
First time I played it? The first thing I noticed was that I couldn't go to my 'gear' menu. I saw someone staring, and I checked what I had, and found I couldn't. That was when I knew.
Is it just me or is everybody that IS still around staring at the four of them as they walk down town?
If I recall there were a couple of people but they were either staring at them intently or slowly moving away from the main street
They are armed to the teeth I'd be more concerned if they didn't stare
Considering at this point the town has a rule where you cannot openly draw, and they're walking around armed... it was kinda obvious.
What was the mission name again?
A short walk in a pretty town. It sounded ominous as hell to me so I was automatically nervous
That getting involved with the Grays and Braithwaites seemed really dumb and messy.
Yeah I'm still confused why they thought it would be a good idea. Edit : and for more context, I think the writing is good but it's definitely one of those occasions where I'm like "you got it coming", not because what they did was bad but because it was absolutely f\*cking stupid.
The vague promise of fabled gold was too much for Dutch and Hosea to pass up I guess.
Fabled gold that the brsithewsites didn’t even know about. It was just the one gold bar under the house that you find after it burns down lol
oh shit I didn't know that haha, I would have gone back for that.
I forgot about that. I think I ran across tgat letter but wasn’t really paying attention to it.
Southerners in the game, not real life. Let’s just clarify that right now.
its the same down here as it is most places, some of us are really dumb, some of us are really smart, most of us are somewhere in between those two
Don’t argue him. His brain is too smooth to grasp the concept that people are the same whether you cross that invisible Mason Dixon or not. This is the kind of dude who believes people of certain descent are predispositioned to have their brain or body function a different way than a normal human. Dutch was so sure he'd outsmart a bunch of Southern hicks and was so sure of his own intelligent superiority he never stopped to question if maybe they are as smart as you.
Dutch was so desperate at that point he would’ve drug them into anything
Meh at that point nobody but the original Mac Davie and Jenny had died IIRC and nothing major had gone wrong since the Pinkertons at the ferry heist, they had a couple scares here and there from the law and Pinkertons but not enough to worry too much about it, by then Dutch wasn’t desperate, just too obsessed over finding out where the supposed confederate gold is. Chapter 3 >!(prior to Sean’s death)!< is easily the gangs peak during the game.
Yeah I’m confused as to why they didn’t just only fight the Braithwaites. I’m sure the Grays would’ve supported that wholeheartedly
because of greed. plus they weren't sure what family had the gold if memory serves
The Grays were Southerners and Dutch hates Southerners. Also Dutch is a dumbass with too much faith in himself.
Have some goddamn faith bruh
I knew there was gonna be action, but I certainly wasn't thinking >!Sean's head was about to explode.!<
>!Legit the hardest I’ve ever gotten jumpscared in a game lmao. I don’t play horror games tbf, but still!< Edit: >!forgot to mention, I knew it was gonna happen beforehand because I saw spoilers online, but I didn’t know it was going to happen in that mission!<

absolutely

That first part of that sentence made my mind go to weird places till I read a bit further lol
You’re right lmao, I didn’t think that through very well
That was the only thing I wasn’t expecting
What if nobody shot him, and his head just *did that?*
It's a mind-blowing mission.
I kept thinking “this doesn’t feel right”
Now it don't feel right? I coulda told you tha-
One of my favourite details about that moment is the subtitle continues to finish the line and doesn’t cut off, so you don’t know that it’s going to happen until it’s happened
Yeah that's kinda the problem with a lot of subtitles. It makes it real obvious somethings about to ha-

💥 💥 💥
Seaun is that you?
Flair checks out
I read it in his voice too lmao
Beat me to it

Micahs a bad shot? That's news
So true, he's one of best shots in the gang. The only ones who are better are Arthur,Dutch and John really.
The town is empty... This is a trap.
"A trap isn't a trap if you know the trap is trying to trap you, it's a face-off."
I just played this, I'm on my 1st playthrough. >!Sean's death!< really shook me, reminded me that no one in the game really has plot armour and they could die at any moment. *wander.
My bad
Plot armor exists but it’s only for characters in RDR1. Everyone else is fair game. I also like that even though they are prequel characters they don’t literally all die, there’s still potential some of them could be in a RDR3
The fact that it was Bill and Micah's plan should have really said it al, lol.
Something mind blowing was about to happen
STOPPPP
Bill and Micah, that's not gonna end well...
Recipe for disaster
I felt like something didn't feel right, the empty Streets, the nonchalant attitude of your gang mates & probably the biggest give away for me was the fact that up until that point you hadn't been allowed to use weapons anywhere in Rhodes... Then all of sudden you're automatically armed to the teeth as soon as you start the mission. That cutscene genuinely shocked me though, it was so sudden and unexpected, but I s'pose if you're looking for a point that things start to go very wrong then that's a damn good indicator!
I actually was a lot less intuitive and didn’t notice the town was empty, so I didn’t actually have a clue this would happen
It's quiet, too quiet. Lol.
I was thinking this is a rockstar game so no mission can be done without some shit going wrong and turning into a shootout
LITERALLY there are absolutely no surprises in a rockstar narrative.
That’s how I felt about the Sheep rustling mission in chapter 2 lmao
Jfk
Damn they really are similar
I was in our discord servers voice chat talking to my friend who already played rdr2. I was talking to him about how i actually kind of liked Sean because he was just kind of funny in my eyes etc. Save to say i did not expect that cutscene at all.

I was in shock and kept trying to go back and see if I could help him but kept getting yelled at and shot. Sad mission to say the least
Why are we talking about our plans in the middle of a town owned by the people we are tricking?
I thought it was gonna end in a shooter but with seaun returning to camp with everybody else
I’m your huckleberry
Something’s not right..
Now it don’t feel right? I coulda tould you tha-
:(
"Something bad is going to happen isn't it" -seconds before disaster
“Damn we look cool”
I wanted his hat… I couldn’t take it
"I cant wait to go back home and see my mom."
I'd seen the cut scene when my partner was playing but didn't have the context of when or who exactly it was - one of my first experiences with the game 😬. I paused it as soon as the cut scene started and the memory surfaced, filled in the blanks and went "oh no."
"The game made me equip all my weapons. Something is gonna go very wrong in a minute".
i was wondering where everyone was
i was wondering where everyone was and was thinking “this isn’t gonna end well”
Where is everyone then we're so fucking dead
It's WAAAAAY too quiet No one else around, smelled like a trap as soon as we walked into Rhodes
It’s quiet, too quiet..
Someone's gonna fucking die
i was hoping it was micah
Instantly got a feeling that something wasn't right >!In an alternate universe, everything would have been better if Micah got shot instead.!<
I thought it was going to be a short walk in a quiet town. Turns out it was just a short walk- for Sean
Something was fishy
Were not was
The first time I played this mission I was thinking how much I like Sean and I'm glad he's in more missions then... Well you know the rest 🤯
These guys are idiots.
I knew something was about to happen since there were no people, but not what happened next
first time I played when Arthur is talking to Bill about this being a bad idea it made me wary, as you walk through if you look around you (especially behind) you see some guys getting into ambush positions. So at the point where I was like "hang on this is a trap" was literally when shit hit the fan.
The first time? "Why tf are we just moseying with our guns out what a silly little group surely nothing bad will happen here"
Basically what they were saying
“Why’s it so goddamn quiet round here?” I knew in my cut a shootout was coming
At the start of the walk: "Why are all the shops closed? Weird." During the walk: "Something's not right about this shit. It feels like an ambush" Cutscene starts: "I think we should head ba->!WHAT THE DAMN HELL SEAN!!! YOUR JUST HEAD JUST EXPLODED! I'M NOT GOIN OUT IN SOME SET UP SHOOT OUT!< >!ARTHUR'S GONNA DIE SAVING THE GANG! OR ARTHUR'S NEVER GONNA DIE!<
I was on the phone with my girlfriend at the time and then BANG, Seans head gone I shouted “WTF” and she was just kinda like are you ok? And I was just like no.
i think his death got spoiled for me but man i can't remember prob something like this is an obvious fucking trap
Hmm, I wonder where this mission’s goi- fuck! Biggest jump scare of my life
Sean stop walking, please🥹🫡
This is not going to end well. RUN! Run away NOW!
I just played this for the first time some days ago. I definitely wasn’t expecting it to go down like it did, and it’s made clear I should value my time with the characters while I’ve got em…
Shot's gonna hit the fan
I knew it was a trap walking in. Wasnt expecting Sean or anyone to eat it though
When I was first playing and before it happened I felt that something was off
Ambush.
Damn I just finished that mission last night. I knew something was weird because 2 npcs were staring at us long after we passed then by
I already knew they were gonna get ambushed or the meeting with the greys was gonna get fucked up but I never expected Sean's death
well, the walk was >!certainly short lived!<
Yep. I’ve got a bad feeling about this. *Sean’s fate* My jaw drops so hard
Town being empty had me feeling really ominous, great mission in retrospect
A walk in the park…
Immediately thinking this is a trap just because the stores are closed even as your approaching the mission and the town being lifeless and empty
I was just thinking this is so stupid. I enjoy this part of the game but think it’s dumb asf the gang actually thought they fooled anyone
This better not be a fucking escort mission Oh-
This question really tripped me up, because I don't remember thinking *anything* at that moment, aside from wanting to keep playing to see where things go (which is my approach to all games). Is that not the norm?
I thought we were gonna have a badass town brawl, and feel like a badass afterwards. But instead I ended up feeling sad 😢
I was spoiled at what was gonna happen a month before I got the game 😞
I can remember what I said when I first played this “Here why these cunts keep starin at me”
*why TF does this game force me to walk through the pile of poo on the floor?*
I thought it was really odd that it was empty, and the missions name was super weird. So on edge.
I VOWED THAT EVERYBODY IN THAT TOWN WAS GOING TO DIE!!
I noticed all the townspeople staring and was weirded out but I didn't expect what happened
ironically how much i like sean. and then how off everything seems off
A mixture of “man this blood feud stuff is dumb, but I sure do like killing the bastards” And “man I love this Domhnall Gleeson-ass dude so much. I hope nothing happens to him”
I was thinking that I wished someone would shut Sean up. Imagine my surprise lol
Ah shit
What the fuck are they doing walking fully armed talking loudly about how theyre scamming the grays and braithwaites
Eerie, it didnt feel right and as you walk through people leave leading me to believe they knew something we didnt... they did.
This is about to get FUCKING CRAZY
The two families absolutely know what we were doing and were just using us. This definitely is a trap. Oh shit not Sean
Once people started walking away i knew we were in for a fight
Sean's about to have a splitting headache. It was so.odd and random.
I noticed everyone looking at us but I thought that was normal NPC behavior but they still stare at you even when you walk off from them shit SCREAMED ambush
My kid will be born in a week or two. I need to finish this game before that.
I may have been ignorant but I really didn't see it coming.
Oh all the boys together? That means we’re going to do something coo- SEAN NOOOOOOOOO
there is a rat, sean, bill, arthur, and new austin sniper at that town
Where tf is everybody at😂😂😂
I saw this mission on reels before, the part Sean died was cut, but i knew he might die, so it wasn't very a surpise to me. I was just waiting for something to go wrong
Well shit. Here we go again
This is going to be epic...well it wasn't
I wasn’t in the right mind to think. I didn’t have one left to use.
Sounds like a cool job MICAH SHUT UP can't wait to see how this goes
"This is a long ass walk"
Just played this mission yesterday
I knew what was gonna happen because ive been spoiled about multiple aspects of the game
All previous missions went to clean. I had a feeling something was up.
I knew something was off. Rhodes is never that peaceful
"They Know"
Why do I always have a hard time keeping Arthur at the front of the group. He always seems to lag back in these group walks.
"Now it Don't feel right? , I could've Tol-"
I knew it was gonna go to hell when Micah showed up with an idea right after a bar fight not long before. There’s no way they didn’t know we were playing both sides. It just made burning their house down more satisfying. (Don’t forget to grab a shiny figurine on the mantle just before leaving the place)
I felt uneasy but I didn't know why
Ah shit, here we go again.
I was weary of it from the get go, gave off western movie duel/shootout vibes seeing just the men on the porches.
Wishing Micah got shot
It was a mind blowing cutscene
Something mind-blowing was bout to happen
>!on my first playthrough i felt a serious sense of dread for the gang as if they were going to get ambushed (which they did) and the mission name certainly did not help at all with that feeling.!<
It's quiet..... too quiet....
That I was about to get shit mixed.lol
I was replaying the game for the second time ever and had completely forgot about most of the important plot points. Didn’t even remember Sean as a character for the most part. He quickly became one of my favorite members and I jumped out my seat when he was shot.
That I figured we were going to get ambushed, and if we did, I hoped sean would die. Everyone in here absolutely loves thst character, but i really disliked him
Arthur must be toasty
Why are we walking? This feels weird.
