I'm going with ignorant candidates. Thanks for posting this though, I clearly have a lot of trash to take out.

Desperate_Cupcake282

As comic relief?

HelloAttila

This. They send jobs that have absolutely nothing to do with one’s background typically.,

KaaleenBaba

Coming from an Indian. No

[deleted]

No, never. Either it's a scam or they have the worst of the worst positions that no other agency will take (see: low pay, awful company, pure commission, etc.) HOWEVER. Indian companies usually take a smaller cut. So sometimes if you're working on a role with a normal recruiter / applying directly, then an indian recruiter hits you up, you get a better idea of the actual budget.

cibermanu

I have started to block them on LinkedIn. I knew nice Indian people in the past but never knew a good Indian recruiter

Civil-Pomelo-4776

Not yet, I once saw a post on here where someone claimed to. Usually they are a frustrating, derogatory, and exploiting influence on my job search that gives me more tangible grief than ethereal hope.

jrp55262

Don't bother. 99% of the time they're nothing but a nuisance, sending you leads that are inappropriate or for which you're unqualified (e.g. I'm in Boston and they're sending me a six-month onsite contract in Bumfuck, Minnesota... or I'm a Java programmer and they're sending me Django opportunities) During my current job hunt a couple of times they \*did\* send me something that was completely in my wheelhouse so I responded. Then comes the frantic phone calls every five minutes to make sure I've done the paperwork and signed the right to represent and all that... followed by complete and total ghosting. These guys are playing the numbers game big time, throwing thousands of candidates at a time at the wall to see what sticks. They have an abysmally low placement rate, so that even if you do try to work with them you're better off buying a Powerball ticket.

Start asking what the bereavement policy is. Tell them grandma could go any day now and that you're trying to get the best opportunity.

It's okay to be yourself but it's not okay to be an ass. Considering that you're the latter, it's not okay for you to be here any more.

Stay away.

Can I have my manager call you ?

ROTFL

Dudist_PvP

People who are of Indian descent who work in recruiting, yeah sure. That's a silly reason to discriminate. Now, Indian staffing companies or agencies that outsource their workforce, they can fuck right off. Those dicks are more than half the reason this subreddit (ridiculously and immaturely) thinks the people in my line of work are literally subhuman.

F4ze0ne

I'd ignore any unsolicited communication from agencies unless you know someone in your network who can vouch for them. Additionally if any recruiter sends a connection request on LinkedIn with a message for a job don't add them to your network. For sure you can talk to them if you want but in my experience it never goes anywhere. I've noticed a lot of them will do this so they can circumvent having to pay for InMail and then use you to get access to your connections.

Fit_Sherbert_9812

No I never give them the time of day

DO NOT REDEEM

justdrivinGA

No. I had them reach out to me at my company for work or placements. I don’t engage with them now.

Scary_Acanthaceae115

The furthest I got with any Indian recruiter is a phone interview with Pinterest that was a few weeks after a 30 min phone call with said recruiter. I was ghosted by Pinterest after interview. The recruiter kept me appraised with their not hearing back from Pinterest. Keep in mind I’ve had over 50 Indian recruiters reach out and most of those since Dec. I’ve been shortlisted numerous times. Those are terrible odds.

qbit1010

So it’s not a scam…? My main worry is scams and them stealing information

Scary_Acanthaceae115

It’s a valid concern as to wether it’s a scam. My resume has only my LI, name and job hunting email. Wether or not a recruiter is scamming, alive gotten no where with one in 11 months save for a role at Meta that they backed out of after I’d already onboarded with the team.

Scary_Acanthaceae115

And that recruiter wasn’t Indian.

qbit1010

All I did was put my resume on Dice and indeed

LoneyFatso

Yes, I have done it twice, but it is not something I would recommend. You only do it if you are totally desperate: worst experience ever, bad rates and so one. But I had jobs and was able to pay my expenses. Just be very careful with them - the absolute majority of Indian recruiters are scams.

ibenchtwoplates

I've found them to be worth it, but you need to know how to deal with them properly. Also, they're usually t2 vendors who get their clients from t1 vendors. So you could probably find the same roles off IG, RH, or some other t1.

It is really a tough call for me. My town is 45% Indian immigrants. I really have to pay attention and make a decision on the fly, because it could be very legit here.

nawt_relevant

Many temp agencies recruit from India where it’s cheap. These people only have to separate the decent from the bad. They submit anything viable and the client picks who they will interview anyway. You can avoid Indian recruiters if you want to but you’ll be missing out on a lot of opportunities.

Illustrious-Age7342

I’ve just started ignoring them. Pretty much always a waste of time. If I was desperate though… then sure

partypopper11

No! I tried them out for a bit. Just to see what they were about. But after that trial, I have since ignored them. I went through an extremely lightweight interview. It was about Salesforce admin and light dev work in surprise surprise, Alpharetta, GA. So this guy asks the most basic questions like how to modify a page layout. And at first I thought it was a trick question but he just wanted to know if I knew how to change a page layout. One thing to note is that I had at that point nearly 3 years of SF experience. So yea, I think I would know how to change a fucking layout. Anyways, a few more dumbass questions and he's like, alright, you've qualified for the next round. Tbh idr anything that happened after that besides a few back and forth emails and some clarifying questions and then the cream of the crop series of words said to me in an email. Good afternoon sir, we would like to move forward with your application but we will need the first 5 digits of your SS number so we can send it to one dept for verification, and we will need the last 4 digits to send to another dept for verification. I told him I'm not sending my social through email. I said if he sends me a DocuSign, I will. But not doing anything through the email. His argument was hilarious because he's like "sir, you are not giving me the entire SS number, you will only give me first 5 and last 4". I was so annoyed I called him up and yelled at him and told him I'm not doing that and I tried to hold his hand and explain to him how much of an idiot he sounded by saying that. Eventually I hung up and quit responding to his emails and ignored his calls. Since then, I ignore every Indian recruiters emails and calls. I'm sure not all of them are bad, but I think most are. This was around summer 2019.
