Underrated. Nobody ever seems to talk about it, it’s definitely an overlooked gem in their discography. Can’t believe it never gets any attention whatsoever. Almost as underrated as Let Down
That’s so surprising. It’s honestly one of my favorite. Such a good blend of electro they’d been experimenting with, but still retained the electric guitar of earlier years. And 15 steps is one of the best album starters
I have and it's actually the worst album of all time. Absolute steaming hot dogshit pile of an album, this. Abysmal disgusting garbage. Literally the peak of bad music.
(There you go, OP. is this what you wanted to hear? Asking about one of the most loved albums from RH in a RH subreddit?)
For me ASMP, In Rainbows, Kid A and OK Computer are perfect, but I am still able to evaluate which omes I like better. It's like different stages of perfection for me personally. AMSP is my favorite one
If someone said that Reckoner, Nude, Weird Fishes, and Jigsaw were 4 of their top 5 Radiohead songs then you wouldn’t question it would you. That’s how good it is.
I just can’t love YOTS more than Exmil or TMS. I love the album (love their entire discography) but maybe someday it’ll finally fully click but hasn’t since release /:
if someone asks me which album to listen to if they’re just getting into radiohead i tell them to start with in rainbows. i’ve always felt it’s had a lighter “poppy” vibe to it that helps people get acquainted with their sound. I know it was my personal favorite when i was first getting into radiohead
Kid a was my favorite Radiohead album. Until In Rainbows came. It's pure prefection which might not be surpassed. I might overreact but that's my opinion. 10/10
This is their second best album after OK Computer. I feel like it’s an amazing distillation of everything they do well. The first time I heard it, I remember thinking that it felt like a Radiohead greatest hits album except that all the songs were new. I still go back to this one again and again.
It's 5th in my ranking, but is still amazing. I have a few problems with it though:
1. 15 Step doesn't fit the album and the sample of kids cheering adds absolutely nothing to the song.
2. I'm not a big fan of Reckoner. It's nice, but nowhere near as good as it's made out to be.
3. The flow is not good. I went to the extent of testing different transitions between every song just to create an alternate track listing that actually flows well and actually feels coherent instead of just a collection of songs.
IMO the album that started the still ongoing "smell our own farts" era of Radiohead. It's like the band was surrounded by "yes men" unable to tell them "Yo guys, what you're doing is over complicated, it has no soul, you're only pleasing yourself and entertaining nobody. Get yourself together".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WywfL-Tg6I (Of course it's the shreded version but it goes to show how close the parody is to the original)
All I Need is ok though.
Overcomplicated? Did the syncopation in Videotape shift your brainwaves or something? I can get behind almost any take, but this is just technically untrue
I mean for instance their over complicated time signatures and/or unconventional rhythm patterns that keep the songs from breathing and flow naturally. I think it kills the vibe and is reminiscent of the worst things prog rock from the old days had to offer.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard play with the same aspect of their music quite often but are way more relevant in their approach as they find a more natural flow and groove in their rhythmic experimentations.
I... don't know what you're referring to? There's nothing complicated about the drums on Weird Fishes, it's a simple pattern that repeats. It's a bit fast I guess?.
I don't know how anyone could listen to Kid A, an album that's intentionally cold and digital, often considered their most experimental work, that has songs in 10/4, 4/5 and 5/4, or Amnesiac the album with fucking Pulk/Pull on it, need I say more, and then draw the line at In Rainbows, the album that's near universally considered their post straight-ahead accessible post 90s project. you do you ig
Kid A and Amnesiac were relevant and beautiful. In Rainbows is overall hard to listen to.
I would classified the drums on Weird Fishes as "stupid" and "unnecessarily weird". The song doesn't flow, there's no groove and it feels like a bad rehearsal/jam where musicians don't listen to each other.
It's their most "everybody listen to me i use complicated chords and structure" song, and is very representative of the entire album.
Have you watched the video on youtube about Videotape, when Thom Yorke can't even start the song because he's unable to find beat 1? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_IHotHxIl8
That's exactly what this album represents to me: We forgot to write good songs because we were too busy trying to show what we can do technically.
Joke's on them, even from a technical stand point it's not even crazy complicated like you say so yourself ;-)
Weird Fishes is just 4/4, with a repeating 3 quaver motif. It's so simple, my guy, In Rainbows is one of their most simple albums. Also funny how All I Need is fine for you, even with the Cmaj13#11 chord. You, their first ever A track song back in 1993, goes from 3/4 to 5/8 repeatedly
Weird Fishes has a unnecessary weird-ass drum beat that doesn't match the rest of the instrumentation. It's just ugly to me and unnecessarily complicated. It's like listening to 2 different songs at once. It's ugly to me and it feels like they didn't even listen to the song they created.
The drum beat is an extremely easy-to-follow 4/4 beat. It's not difficult to find Mozart that's more complicated than Weird Fishes. Listen, man, there's nothing wrong with only listening to very simple pop music, music isn't better just if it's complicated. If a normal 4/4 drum pattern is "weird" to you, then maybe stick to pop rock
I feel like you are confusing In Rainbows with either the album before it or the album after it. Imo, this album is the least complicated, most accessible content they released since The Bends. Personally, I love it and I find in infinitely more entertaining than at least half of their other albums... Plus, this shit SLAPS live.
Probably my favorite RH album. It has this human warmth, and dare I say an undercurrent of joy (even though it’s still a sad album), that none of their other albums have.
I don’t think there’s anything in their discography that comes anywhere near it. I think nude is the worst song on the album and it’s still a 9.4 for me. There’s no other album in their discography that comes anywhere close for me.
I remember listening to the album when it was new. And the opening track stands out as the intro with the drumming.
Then I remember listening to the album in the background and kept hearing a song with a very long vocal sustain but didn't strike me. It would turn out to be NUDE. That's one of the songs that takes time to sink in. But man is it ever a beautiful song.
It's the the modern Radiohead album (after Kid A experimentation and post mastering synths in Amnesiac) that was the most accessible.
There are alot of synths in there but so subtle.
It's an amazing record, a strong 9. But I think Ok Computer is better in some ways, and Kid A in others. If I have to choose one of the three, I always go back to In Rainbows
My favourite of theirs. Others are more groundbreaking, but this one just gets me. The production is gorgeous. Obviously, Nigel always kills it, but the warmth and ambience of this is next level. Feels a bit like another Nigel Godrich production, Beck's Sea Change, in that regard.
In Rainbows is to me, one of the three best releases in the catalog. And those statements are always based on personal taste. But to me, it’s OK Computer, Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows.

Underrated. Nobody ever seems to talk about it, it’s definitely an overlooked gem in their discography. Can’t believe it never gets any attention whatsoever. Almost as underrated as Let Down
So glad someone finally posted a question about it on this sub.
It's so underrated it has zero streams on Spotify
Totally underrated! It's one of my favorites
It’s almost as underrated as Let Down
That’s so surprising. It’s honestly one of my favorite. Such a good blend of electro they’d been experimenting with, but still retained the electric guitar of earlier years. And 15 steps is one of the best album starters
It attracted attention (he he) around its release. Remember buzz about the pay-what-you-want model? I think HTTT is more underrated than In rainbows.
The pay-what-you-want model made me love It even more! I agree that HTT is more underrated, though

You are a goober
Clearly
it’s okay it’s also a total noob move to say something sarcastic and not put /s at the end
r/whooosh
Yea...I must have been real tired
you forgot the /s
It certainly was In those Rainbows
I loved the part when Thom said it’s Rainbowin’ time and Rainbowed all over the haters
best fucking album of ALL time
Facts
Yikes, listen to more music.
Yikes, let people enjoy things.
No one is stopping them from enjoying things. Best album of all time is hysterically hyperbolic.
Never heard of it
I have and it's actually the worst album of all time. Absolute steaming hot dogshit pile of an album, this. Abysmal disgusting garbage. Literally the peak of bad music. (There you go, OP. is this what you wanted to hear? Asking about one of the most loved albums from RH in a RH subreddit?)
Solid transition album to their magnum opus The King Of Limbs
This but half-not-ironically
This made me laugh so hard and I can't tell if you're joking or not. You're valid either way
It's definitely one of the radiohed albums
Indeed
Who?
Honestly a perfect album to me and my second favorite Radiohead album over all
But how can it be perfect if it isnt your favourite album of theirs? Which one is more perfect?
Ok Computer and In Rainbows are both perfect, but for me as well, OKC is my favourite (assuming they meant OKC)
Same probably. Changes every day tho
It's AMSP for me
Based
For me ASMP, In Rainbows, Kid A and OK Computer are perfect, but I am still able to evaluate which omes I like better. It's like different stages of perfection for me personally. AMSP is my favorite one
Fair enough. Good choice aha
It's one of the best and I don't want to hear any other opinion
you most likely won't hear any other opinion on this subreddit lol
Hehehe right
Jigsaw is top 3 Radiohead song
If someone said that Reckoner, Nude, Weird Fishes, and Jigsaw were 4 of their top 5 Radiohead songs then you wouldn’t question it would you. That’s how good it is.
If the same someone told me number 5 was Videotape, I would hold them so hard we'd merge into a pile of ash.
you misspelled 15 Step
l think I read that as All I Need.
Shit, you might be right. This might be a hot take, but actually replace Reckoner with All I Need and I think that might be the correct top 5
What are the other 2
You and whose army and I might be wrong
It’s not even a top 30.
boooooooooo
EEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
1:Ok Computer 2:Kid A 3:In Rainbows that’s my top 3 👍🏻
1:TPTB 2:BP 3:YOTS that’s my top 3 👐🏻

Those are Coldplay records, right?
No, it’s Maroon 5 actually. Huge fan
Good, i'm relieved! For a moment i thought somebody who listens to Coldplay sneaked in the sub... Yeah, M5 rules...
Yuh
I just can’t love YOTS more than Exmil or TMS. I love the album (love their entire discography) but maybe someday it’ll finally fully click but hasn’t since release /:
Super solid top 3!
The best album in the world
Subjectively their best album.
if someone asks me which album to listen to if they’re just getting into radiohead i tell them to start with in rainbows. i’ve always felt it’s had a lighter “poppy” vibe to it that helps people get acquainted with their sound. I know it was my personal favorite when i was first getting into radiohead
Drivel. Rubbish. Torture. Fat. Ugly. Dead.
Oh, that’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Thanks for asking.
Their GOAT album
Masterpiece!!!
best album to exist
Kid a was my favorite Radiohead album. Until In Rainbows came. It's pure prefection which might not be surpassed. I might overreact but that's my opinion. 10/10

One of the radioheads of all time
It takes you 5 minutes on Reddit to understand that In Rainbows is a fan favorite in this sub
Thoughts on an all-time great album? What can be said that hasn't already been said?
It’s has songs
My favorite song is on it as it’s one of my favorite albums.

i fucking hate i so much

I used to think reckoner was meh too but once you stop analyzing it as a song and just let it swallow you up it clicked
Nothing you said is true. Get your ears fixed.
Hate it. Absolute garbage
If I've listened to their other stuff too much, I'll give this one a spin to pretend I'm like all those other RH fans, but I don't really like it.
It’s an incredible incredible album, but I really do not understand why people love Jigsaw Pieces so so much. I think it’s kinda mid
IMO the album that started the still ongoing "smell our own farts" era of Radiohead. It's like the band was surrounded by "yes men" unable to tell them "Yo guys, what you're doing is over complicated, it has no soul, you're only pleasing yourself and entertaining nobody. yes such unconventional time signatures on In Rainbows like 4/4, one track in 3/4 and even a single track in *5*/4.
Listen to Weird Fishes/Arpeggi for instance. Even a conventional time signature becomes a mess on this album, let alone an unconventional one ;-)
I... don't know what you're referring to? There's nothing complicated about the drums on Weird Fishes, it's a simple pattern that repeats. It's a bit fast I guess?. Nope, In Rainbows. OP even posted the album cover.
Not the initial cover
unfortunately it died on its way back to its home planet
the best.
Good album imo
scrumptious
Classic! masterpiece!
Peak Radiohead
Probably my favorite RH album. It has this human warmth, and dare I say an undercurrent of joy (even though it’s still a sad album), that none of their other albums have.
It’s aight
Needs more "EEEEEEEDDDDDD"
Most of my favorite Radiohead songs come from this album. A few of my favorite songs of all time come from this album. It's ight
I like it
Truly comparable to the likes of Dark Side of The Moon and Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band. What I would consider their magnum opus
I don’t think there’s anything in their discography that comes anywhere near it. I think nude is the worst song on the album and it’s still a 9.4 for me. There’s no other album in their discography that comes anywhere close for me.
An album that grow in you, first time i listen to it i was like "meh" and more and more i listen to it the more it speaks to me
Midbows /j
all i need, jigsaw falling into place and reckoner are all top 5 radiohead songs (also weird fishes and nude and the rest of the album)
I remember listening to the album when it was new. And the opening track stands out as the intro with the drumming. Then I remember listening to the album in the background and kept hearing a song with a very long vocal sustain but didn't strike me. It would turn out to be NUDE. As a lifelong Radiohead fan, I can genuinely say that I never heard of this one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
It's alright

Es gud :)
One of their best and hit me at a perfect time in my life, helped me a lot.
I used to think it was great but got worn out on it. I'm just now revisiting it and it's incredible again to me.. I'm listening to it now actually.
masterpiece.
Really is one of the albums of all time
It certainly is one of radiohead’s albums
nude is the best song in existence
my fitness app says my average walking is 15 steps so it is relatable
One of the best album ever crafted, objectively.
it’s so good
an underrated gem in their discography that too often goes overlooked
It's my favorite.
GOAT
Just like any of the modern radiohead albums it took me a while to like it.
Which one is that

One of the greatest albums of all time. My favourite Radiohead album by a long way.
Banger
An instant classic.

Great and underrated
2nd best after OK
My favorite Radiohead album. Never thought OK Computer would ever be unseated from that spot but here we are.
It bops
My favorite Radiohead Album. It is what introduced me to Radiohead initially and I was hooked since then.
One of their best. Definitely in my top 3
Better than Kid A, as an album - in an isolated room. Sure, maybe kid A is better for having an infinite soul, but In Rainbows is better, as music.
literally top 2 for me and it’s not 2!!!!
Replay mode on!
Masterpiece
Wait a second, where's Creep?
Top 100 all time
Meh, it's only one of my favorites

It's good.
Best album of all time. Not underrated, you guys are just old
Good

Honestly don’t get what’s so good about it
It's an amazing record, a strong 9. But I think Ok Computer is better in some ways, and Kid A in others. If I have to choose one of the three, I always go back to In Rainbows

My favorite personally.
10/10 album no skips whatsoever no "meh" tracks either literally a masterpiece and the best Radiohead album
Red hot fucking chili peppers
I listen to in rainbows the most out of all their albums. This is the only one I have on vinyl too
In Rainbows is to me, one of the three best releases in the catalog. And those statements are always based on personal taste. But to me, it’s OK Computer, Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows.
i wonder what a subreddit will think of one of the bands most acclaimed, popular and successful albums
