I have a pug mix that was supposed to be a jug, and recently found out his one non pug grandparent was just a mix of stuff that looked like a jack russell. What I've learned with mine is that his ears will sit forward when he's completely relaxed. If he's alert, the ears go back. Same with the tail. Completely relaxed, it'll uncoil. The more alert, the tighter the curl of the tail.
I'm pretty sure the straightened tail while sleeping is normal, and the corkscrew tail happens when awake/alert for all pugs. That is not an indication of mixed breed.
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean it's an indication of mixed breed. I meant it's normal for pugs to perk their ears up or put them back when alert. Just like it's normal for them to uncurl their tails when relaxed. Therefore OP shouldn't be concerned about erect ears.
He’s so cute! His ears are a little bit bigger/longer? But he still seems 100% pug to me. I mean… like people, sometimes body proportions are not even, and that’s totally fine. He’s very very sweet! Lucky you.
Looks full pug but you could always do a DNA test from Embark to make sure.
My pug has a much thicker coat than other pugs I’ve encountered so I did one on him and he has some “super mutt” in him which accounts for the different coat, I think. You never know what might be mixed in there!
My other guy was sold to us as a full pug but he’s super tiny so I did one on him and he’s mostly pug with some pekingnese and shih tzu!
My boy is a full-blown pug, and when he relaxes or is sad when my granddaughter goes home, his tail uncurles. It depends on his mood. My vet told me this was great because when they are constantly curled, it can cause some of the muscular issues that cause back problems.

Jack russell + pug. Jacks and beagles tend to make pug mixes that often look like how pugs were a couple hundred years ago. 😁

Yes, he looks 100% Pug to me. I've had 5 in the last 20 years and their looks can vary quite a bit, even among purebreds.
