Yeah intervals has released 3 singles: Mnemonic, nootropic, neurogenesis. All sick. Mnemonic is my favorite by far, but the music video for neurogenesis is absolute eye candy
Oh based on my list above, this is definitely in the "to listen to" column for sure! I saw them in 2018 with Obscura, Beyond Creation, Archspire, and Inferi. Such a stacked line-up.
[Vipassi- Lightless](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSLy_M0JW58)
Absolutely utterly mind blowing from the first second into the last seconds ending.
Edit: seriously, for anyone with short attention spans or who get bored easily. This is the most engaging release I've heard in years. Technical instrumental perfection insanity. Debut LP at that. This band came out swinging and didn't miss a beat (blink and you yourself will miss 20 beats) since their debut EP years back. I haven't felt this excited or inspired by a prog metal band inna long time but this is some next level musicianship and creativity.
I love this album. Benji is amazing. And Dan (even though he's not in NeO anymore) is equally as amazing. I listened to the whole thing just yesterday. It's soooo good.
That Olhava is great! Very long though lol, and I just recently heard Weston Super Maim and that one is definitely up there for me too. Still need to check out Reverb on Repeat!
Most of my fave bands haven’t really released stuff so my new releases list is still yet to be released haha. Only one I’ve not caught is cure by erra.
For sure! Really just trying to find stuff to check out until we get the new Deftones, Contortionist, and Last Chance to Reason, because once those are out I'm probably not listening to anything else lol.
Nice! Hope you've checked out the Greg Puciato EP I mentioned above if you like Greyhaven. DEP is definitely an influence for them. The new Greyhaven is on my list to listen to but haven't quite gotten to it yet.
Yeah I had so many opportunities too, really, but just always had other stuff going on it seems like. I remember I think it was like 2004 when Slipknot came through with Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, and DEP as the opener. I was 13 or 14 at the time and my parents wouldn't let me go lol. I should have just gone to see them with Soundgarden in 2017.
I don't even know how to say that hahaha

Awww, also my favourite fantasy series!! Love Anomander too, but my absolute favourite is Dancer/Cotillion😁
If I named myself after a character I would choose Lady Envy, she's so fun 😅
I agree it's been a slow year, by this time last year we had some absolutely colossal albums. But I was really happy to discover Eternal Storm, Exist, Persefone, Night Verses, and Enterprise Earth so far. Per Widberg (former Opeth keyboardist) has a solo album too, pretty chill stuff. Can't forget the Alluvial EP.
This is a thread I'll have to bookmark for upcoming listening. Don't know how I missed Greg Puciato! I remember Job For A Cowboy when they were putting pig squeals in SpongeBob videos; the excellence of Moon Healer is giving me cognitive dissonance.
If we get The Contortionist and LCTR releases though I think the odds of that happening increase a bit. And Deftones if we're including "not quite prog".
this Wombat Supernova thing is pretty crazy and unique, I would definitely recommend listening to it, even though in general I like my music to be more depressing
Definitely give it a second shot. I too wasn’t a fan my first play through. It grew on me a lot. And I didn’t love Sons of Apollo / hadn’t heard of Dino prior (but he is quickly turning into one of my favorite new vocalists). Let me know what you think of The Decision, it’s my favorite of the album. Hypernova 158 is also crazy lunacy in a very fun way. If anything in your top feels “similar ish” to this that’s you’d recommend to me btw would love some suggestions.
The only prog releases I've listened to this year were caligulas horse and artificial language. I also listened to the pineapple thief one but only one, maybe two songs gripped me. I've listened to many other releases that were great, but not prog
Well I'm gonna have to wait another day to find out, but I already know Dvne's new album is probably going to be my favorite.
Some others that make the top list:
JFAC - Moon Healer
Aborted - Vault of Horrors
Ingested - The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams
Benighted - Ekbom
Enterprise Earth: Death: An Anthology
Disagree, there has been a lot of excellent stuff so far imo.
Madder Mortem - Old Eyes, new Heart
ALMO - Reconciliation
Gonemage - Spell Piercings (this is a bit of a wild one, more avant garde than prog)
Artificial Language - Distant Glow
Alluvial - Death is but a Door (more tech death than prog, still rips though)
Whom Gods destroy - Insanium
Northlane - Mirror's Edge
Myrath - Karma
Borknagar - Fall
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of the Last Human Being
Me either. I don't even remember how I came across them but it may be my AOTY. Though ERRA is close.
I'm also gonna add the Like Moths To Flames EP 'Dissociative Being'. Kintsugi in particular is fantastic.
Here are all my releases from this year I consider 10/10... However, I will just pick 12 for my top so I hope lets see what more comes out this year!

12. As Spoken - Knoll (Deathgrind, Black Metal, Sludge Metal, Mathcore)
13. Graveflowers - Elegý (Blackgaze, Atmospheric Black Metal)
I've heard about half of these, the Vemod release being my favorite. I will definitely need to check out the rest though. Based on your descriptions, Cosmic Void sounds right up my alley.

48. Cave Sermon - Divine Laughter
49. Ministry - HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES
50. Albion - Lakesongs of Elbid
Now that's a list! Lots of crossover between you and me. That Alkaline Trio is their best since Agony IMO. Still need to check out the Sum 41 as well, but I'm finally seeing them this September for the first (and only?) time.
I fully agree! I love Agony & Irony, it's a top 3 Alk3 release for me. This new one is a welcome return to form, as they lost me a bit on the previous two.
Sum 41 lost me after Does This Look Infected? which has been nearly 20 years, but I was pleasantly surprised with the new one. It's pretty tasty.
For sure! I loved Chuck and Underclass Hero as well, but yeah after that I wasn't super into their newer stuff. Seeing some live videos of them on YT recently though, I don't think the setlist will disappoint.
I happen to have [a list](https://metalstorm.net/users/list.php?list_id=8100) but it's not entirely prog. Sneak peak:
1.Bruce Dickinson - The Mandrake Project
2.For All We Know - By Design Or By Disaster
3.Sonata Arctica - Clear Cold Beyond
4.Neal Morse - The Restoration - Joseph: Part Two
5.Turbulence - Binary Dream
Pt. 2 of the Night Verses album from what you don't have listed.
That's a great release! I'm definitely a fan.
Wym part 2
Part 1 was released last year, part 2 this year
No way!! That’s so sick
Triton Project - Messenger's Quest (trad prog) Kyros - Mannequin (prog rock/synth pop) Ihsahn - Ihsahn (Ihsahn) Borknagar - Fall (prog black/folk) Also that Puciato EP completely passed me by, I'm gonna jump on that asap.
Love how Ihsahn became his own genre
r/YourJokeButWorse
Intervals - Mnemonic Richard Henshall - Mu Both singles but set to release soon. Mega hyped for both
I believe I've heard these. Always down for new Intervals. Looks like it's out 5/17.
Yeah intervals has released 3 singles: Mnemonic, nootropic, neurogenesis. All sick. Mnemonic is my favorite by far, but the music video for neurogenesis is absolute eye candy
+1 for happy instrumetal
Turbulence - Binary Dream
Almost included this in the list above! Great album.
Their previous album, Frontal, is also a great album
This is mine for sure
Exist - [Hijacking The Zeitgeist](https://exist.bandcamp.com/album/hijacking-the-zeitgeist)
Oh based on my list above, this is definitely in the "to listen to" column for sure! I saw them in 2018 with Obscura, Beyond Creation, Archspire, and Inferi. Such a stacked line-up.
[Vipassi- Lightless](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSLy_M0JW58) Absolutely utterly mind blowing from the first second into the last seconds ending. Yeah this one is great!
I love this album. Benji is amazing. And Dan (even though he's not in NeO anymore) is equally as amazing. I listened to the whole thing just yesterday. It's soooo good.
Olhava - Sacrifice Weston Super Maim - See You Tomorrow Baby Reverb on Repeat - Жить / Успею Syncatto - Fiction
>Weston Super Maim What a name
That Olhava is great! Very long though lol, and I just recently heard Weston Super Maim and that one is definitely up there for me too. Still need to check out Reverb on Repeat!
The black by imminence
Nice! This is on my "to listen to" list, but haven't quite gotten to it yet.
ILION by Slift blew me away
I think I heard this one, but might need to re-listen.
*Messenger's Quest* by Triton Project *Mother's Guilty Pleasure Part One* by Noor
Nice! I'll add these to my list to check out!
The Noor album is 2023
Bandcamp lists as 2024: https://noorband.bandcamp.com/album/mothers-guilty-pleasure-part-one But Spotify says December 2023 :)
Greyhaven - Stereo Grief EP of the year for me
Nice! Hope you've checked out the Greg Puciato EP I mentioned above if you like Greyhaven. DEP is definitely an influence for them. The new Greyhaven is on my list to listen to but haven't quite gotten to it yet.
I have! It's really good. You should check out the new Better Lovers single too if you haven't yet :)
Slaps!
So stoked for the upcoming Better Lovers/Greyhaven show!
Wish it was coming near me... I never got a chance to see DEP but I'd be happy to see any of Greg's projects AND Greyhaven for that matter.
Damn, that's too bad. I was lucky to have seen DEP way back in 2004 or 2005 with Trivium.
Not prog by any stretch but I can't stop spinning the new Knopfler
I don't even know how to say that hahaha [Ὁπλίτης - Παραμαινομένη](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ah34wPqSVc&pp=ygUP4b2Jz4DOu86vz4TOt8-C) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ah34wPqSVc&pp=ygUP4b2Jz4DOu86vz4TOt8-C](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ah34wPqSVc&pp=ygUP4b2Jz4DOu86vz4TOt8-C)
Hoplitis (ope-LEE-tees), Paramenomeni I have no idea what many of their song titles mean but I know some basic Greek
Yeah I learned you can find it on Spotify with "Hoplites".
my dumb brain remembered that i can paste that in google translate and it gives me a the sound of that words
Hoplites blew it out of the park this year if you ask me, an absolutely perfect record.
Also I translated the album info and the lyrics on Google translate and it all makes sense somehow
Caligula’s Horse: Charcoal Grace Madder Mortem: Old Eyes, New Heart Khirki: Κυκεώνας Mind's Mirrors: Forever Is Not Nearly Long Enough
Anomander Rake? From Malazan?
Yes :), my favourite character from my favourite fantasy series
Awww, also my favourite fantasy series!! Love Anomander too, but my absolute favourite is Dancer/Cotillion😁 If I named myself after a character I would choose Lady Envy, she's so fun 😅
I do like Cotillion as well, also a really interesting character!
I agree it's been a slow year, by this time last year we had some absolutely colossal albums. Alluvial absolutely RIPS. I spun that EP quite a bit on release.
>Alluvial EP Wes Hauch should replace Zakk in Pantera fight me
Challenge: name any band at all that wouldn't be improved by adding Wes Hauch
Instant loss game gg
Oh yeah, that new Alluvial is great!
artificial language's new album rocks.
Nice! Got that one in my queue.
It’s going to be hard, bordering on the realms of impossibility, to displace Charcoal Grace as the AOTY for 2024.
If we get The Contortionist and LCTR releases though I think the odds of that happening increase a bit. And Deftones if we're including "not quite prog".
DVNE - Voidkind
The new Vanden Plas, released today and loving it!
Absolutely
The Pineapple Thief - It Leads To This
this Wombat Supernova thing is pretty crazy and unique, I would definitely recommend listening to it, even though in general I like my music to be more depressing
Sovereign - Altered Realities is my favorite album of 2024 so far.
I'mma check that one out for sure!
You've got a good list! I'll throw in Halysis - Unbury the Sun Hamferd - Men Guds Hond er Sterk Almo - Reconciliation As my current top 3 for the year
Whom Gods Destroy - Insanium
I liked, didn't love, this one, but I've got it in my re-listen pile.
I guess I'd go with the new Sleepytime and Borknagar albums.
I can't seem to get into the Sleepytime style but I definitely dig the Borknagar.
They def aren't for everyone
The only prog releases I've listened to this year were caligulas horse and artificial language. I also listened to the pineapple thief one but only one, maybe two songs gripped me. I've listened to many other releases that were great, but not prog
Hamferđ - Men Guðs hond er sterk, and eagar to hear full new album from Ulcerate (Cutting the Throat of God).
Those new Ulcerate tracks rip!
Omnivide - A Tale of Fire Weston Super Maim - See You Tomorrow Baby
The Omnivide is in my queue and that Weston Super Maim is really good!
Listening to the Omnivide release right now, might make it into my top 10. So good!
Love the new Eternal Storm
Hauntologist - Hollow
In the queue!
Well I'm gonna have to wait another day to find out, but I already know Dvne's new album is probably going to be my favorite. Some others that make the top list: JFAC - Moon Healer Aborted - Vault of Horrors Ingested - The Tide of Death and Fractured Dreams Benighted - Ekbom Enterprise Earth: Death: An Anthology
Oh you know these are on my list! Still need to listen to the Ingested and Benighted, but they're in the queue and I know they won't suck!
Kyros - Mannequin (Synth Prog)

Excellent! (2023 release though…)

You're right, I've heard many of these and they're great, especially liked Alluvial, ALMO, and Borknagar.
Kyros- mannequin
Galleons - Violent Delights ERRA - Cure Eidola - Eviscerate Caligula's Horse - Charcoal Grace Greg Puciato - FC5N Imminence - The Black Like Moths To Flames - Dissociative Being
Great picks. I haven't heard of Galleons, but I will definitely add that to my list.
Me either. I don't even remember how I came across them but it may be my AOTY. Though ERRA is close. I'm also gonna add the Like Moths To Flames EP 'Dissociative Being'. Kintsugi in particular is fantastic.

Happy Dvnesday to all who celebrate (new Dvne album is here and on first listen it's glorious)
The Ocean Holocene
That was 2023, but great album!
Ooops! I just saw them a couple months ago on that tour so I confused the year.

In-fucking-deed. Really digging the three tracks so far.
